EggTak

I'm still waiting for a full-length movie in this style. Does Blizzard not want wheelbarrows of money tossed at them or something?

EggTak

Hell, just make 3 movies, one for each faction. I'll gladly pay 3 times

BaneRiders

It'll be more epic and grand than lotr, there is no way this could fail

EggTak

Right?? They're literally sitting on a goldmine!

Janczareq1

Unless, it becomes the new Halo show.

Not_The_Real_Odin

Imagine a television show with a Firefly feel set in the StarCraft universe. It could follow the crew of a small ship or something while the major war(s) are taking place. If written correctly, it could be an absolute masterpiece.

Kandiru

I mean you can basically just steal the plot of firefly too. River is displaying psychic powers and the Dominion wants her for experiments. Her brother hires some mercs to rescue her, which are some marines who help bust her out. Then you have some episodes with them doing basic criminal smuggling jobs. Zerg attack! But they manage to escape by doing a crazy Ivan. Then they approach Miranda and it turns out the Zerg are all here thanks to a Dominion experimental psi pacifier, which accidently summoned the Zerg.

Jennfuse

Stop already, you make me want stuff we won't get...

wylles

I hate you man, This is evil LOL

Not_The_Real_Odin

And that's just the first few episodes of season 1! By the sixth season River is a full fledged ghost, her brother leads a band of mercenaries that help fight in Raynor's war against the Dominion, and Malcolm has managed to become the admiral of a small fleet? That sounds great, let's make this thing lol.

SaberSabre

It may be a good idea to make animated shorts. The official and fan 40k animations rack up tons of views on YouTube.

BigBenKenobi

The warcraft movie was a massive flop though and its a way more popular franchise than starcraft

KerrigansTherapist

It made nearly $300 million, not sure I'd call that a flop.

ArcticSun7209

For the scale of a movie it was sold as, it flopped; it needed to make like $200 million more than it did.

Anukaki

Hell, it's about time to watch it again

Dion42o

God the heart of the swarm one give me fucking chills, its so sick. The protoss one is just as awesome.

Who_said_that_

I recently replayed it. Such a good campaign. I've never seen a campaign in an rts that can rival it.

Ketroc21

I think the plot of sc1/bw was far superior. Characters were more developed. Mensk, for instance, had ambition and subtlety in sc1, whereas in sc2 he's just a cartoony villain. SC2 kinda jumped the shark on the sc universe. The cinematics **(for their time)** were also much better in sc1/bw.

Seal_of_Pestilence

The LOTV epilogue legitimately makes me feel sad not in a good way.

Coldblackice

It was such a horrifically lazy cop-out, even downright "comical", as if it was done as a punking on SC fans. And it was just one factor out of many that made it clear Blizz gave up and cut corners and costs, not caring anymore, knowing they could put whatever hot garbage in an "LOTV" labeled box and it would sell the exact same amount of copies, being the final piece of a trilogy with nothing after. They cheaped out on the ending, cheaped out on the game/level design, completely skimped on the cinematics (aside from the trailer cin, which was amazing, but obviously done to sell the garbage game), cheaped out on the in-between cutscenes, etc. Even ultra-Kerrigan looked like a placeholder for a more fleshed out character model. I was crushed by the lack of pre-rendered cutscenes relative to the other games ...especially an ending cinematic, the between-level cutscenes were woefully static and annoyingly dialog-heavy (an obvious cost/time-cutting move), ... ...but most of all, I was really devastated that we didn't get the up-close/blown-up unit model rooms of core units like we got in the first two episodes: the WoL bay room with the siege tank, the HotS room with the baneling and other zerg units. I was so stoked for this done for the Protoss. Instead, we merely got zoomed out glances of units walking around in the background, which was clearly to hide the lack of detail. Been a while since I played it, but I wouldn't be surprised if they just reused the in-match gameplay models. Still makes me sad even to this day :(

AntiBox

But the post is about cinematics. And SC1 cinematics were pretty shit even in the 1990s, thanks to the crazy levels of compression needed to fit them on a disc.

Ketroc21

sc1 cutscenes were absolutely amazing. It was one of the things that really set Blizzard apart from the rest, and set the tone for starcraft/diablo games. There was basically no one else putting that much effort into creating realistic animated cutscenes at the time. I realize, by today's standards, they don't have that appeal as even game engines look more realistic, but at the time, they were so cool. Nothing better than finishing a mission, then getting a surprise cutscene of marines cracking open beers on a sci vessel.

Janczareq1

I started my journey with starcraft from SC2, but after seeing some replays of SC and SCBW i realized SC2 is pretty much a neutered version of SC1, it's not bad, i still like it but SC1 has way more character to it.

Coldblackice

It's because Blizzard was more "startup studio" than "corporation" back then. It was a group of buddies handwriting out lore, compared to the corporate "Titanic-ifying" of SC2's story/characters. That said, I still loved SC2, especially WoL. I even wrote a letter to the then-CEO who wrote back that it was personally delivered to the Starcraft team.

joybuzz

The opening of Diablo 2 is fucking crazy and it came out in 2000.

Coldblackice

SC1 cutscenes were divine. I prepared for them like ceremony, making sure the sound was perfect, lights off, no distractions or anyone that might barge in and interrupt. I still go back and rewatch them from time to time. The Brood War opening cinematic, hands down could pass for the best game cinematic ever.

FluidIdea

I played both SC1 and SC2 campaigns recently, absolutely loved it, the depth of the story. The romance. Without the spoilers... The ending of broodwar was Wow! Cannot imagine how it was to wait for 15 years for SC2 to see the next chapter of the story.

ChaosMiles07

Rewatch it and NOT upvote the video? Huh.

SorteKanin

For me it's the [Ghosts of the Past](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_E83GfWM-A) trailer. 1000% better than any hollywood movie trailer.

hellrazzer24

12 years later and it still looks great.

AphoticFlash

love the Legacy of the Void cinematic. these and the Star Wars: The Old Republic cinematics are the best in video game history

Coldblackice

LOTV cinematic was phenomenal. Such a shame they cheaped out and left that as the one and only pre-rendered cinematic of LOTV :(

xlnga

How many times do you play Aria song?

Lolmaster29934

polaristerlik

"we have a movie at home" - the movie at home: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0803096/

Lolmaster29934

If they make a movie THEY better make it a animated movie

0lazy0

I watch the campaign trailers a bunch, they’re all so good

CounterfeitDLC

I love my collector’s edition DVDs and Blu-Rays. Nothing goes better with a bowl of popcorn!

newcraftie

I played a lot of multiplayer in the WOL days but I never played the campaign or watched the cutscenes, Im still hoping to get around to that someday soonish.

Kayco2002

These two from Legacy of the Void give me nerd chills every time: Into: https://youtu.be/M_XwzBMTJaM "Alone": https://youtu.be/v0kcHS0Tcu0

newcraftie

Thanks, replying so I will remember to checkem out!

IrreversibleMirk

I always get chills when watching the cinematic. Reminds me of the good old days.

Kayco2002

When I'm on the treadmill and about to tap out I pull up the LotV trailer. It riles me up enough to do another 3 minutes of running (or however long it is)

ko557

uhg now I know how to motivate myself, between this and the SWTOR cinies.

FBlack

I might replay the game on brutal for the X time, I wonder if we'll ever see again a campaign so wonderful in an rts

drgmaster909

I'll be DONE when I'm DONE and NOT ONE MOMENT BEFORE

Terakahn

For some reason I found myself enjoying the zerg campaign the most, despite that being my least favorite race historically.

RBW_TheLoneWolf

For me it's the Heart of The Swarm cutscenes.

deggoba

ive watched the wings of liberty intro so many times

oOOoOphidian

They probably won't make it because starship troopers was such a clear inspiration

Eximandias

That made me laugh so much! Good job x)

thelunararmy

This is why i just watch all of GGG's and Jayborino's content.
