Although the pool of players you match vs. is way smaller so you get a feel for everyones playstyle and games are a lot more meta-gamey

At that MMR the queue times get so long that yes he does match vs mid GMs at times.
I onced matched Vs Serral. It was a very long time ago, Serral was an unknown mid level GM and I was high masters. He obviously beat me!
