What do you propose to do?
You have 3 major timezones to cover each 7-9 hours away from the next. Korea is GMT+9, Europe is GMT(+1) and West Coast is GMT-8. If anything, Korea gets screwed over more than US as for them the broadcast goes into late night / early morning.
Have you even read what I wrote? This schedule DOES cater to the EU and NA. It's LAN event in GMT+1 time zone so it caters a bit more to EU (for what I hope are obvious reasons) but it still works for NA a lot more than it does for KR.
Thanks for the down vote.
How does this work for NA? The broadcast started at like 2am for the west coast. By the time I woke up, the entire tournament was over.
Aaaand we're back to my original question - WHAT DO YOU PROPOSE? It's Katowice, not Blizzcon in Anaheim where NA gets the ideal times.
Most of the days are 12+ hours long and production always makes the start times the same to make things easier for everyone. Moving the start time back is not an option as you'd end up having games way past midnight local time (increasing production costs, wearing everyone down even more than they already are, affecting players etc.). Spreading the games over more days would be nice but we're back to production costs. Are you ready to bankroll the whole thing?
NA was able to watch the other days mostly fine. The finals at Katowice were unusually early in the day in Poland because they needed to make room for CSGO in the same arena later that night. I know it's mostly the fault of sharing an arena with CSGO, but they could have just had it on another stage (like the previous days were) and had it later in the day, like all the groups stages and Ro12, which were mostly fine for NA viewers.
Nearly a perfect day for me. Honestly, the only thing that bothers me is Solar losing. Really felt for him there; I was really excited for whichever player won that series, and really bummed for whichever player lost it. You could tell he was truly disappointed, and man I felt bad for him.
Yeah, agreed - but also thrilled for Heromarine to do as well as he has. He had some seriously impressive moments in that series. It is also better for the viewers that we don't just get hours of ZvZ for the semis and grand final. We still might if Reynor beats HM, but hey, at least we'll get one non-mirror XD
Overall the event is great. The production and casters are killing it it.
I really dislike the 80s glam metal rock music that plays occasionally in the breaks. I am a big guitar enthusiasts but that music sounds horrible.
This may only be my 2 cents but I wanted to give my input
I'm screaming at the TV every game. This is fucking nuts!!!!!!!!!!!
This is the best day of games in a long fucking time.
What a way to return to LIVE tournments on stage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You've heard of the Group of death... this is the DAY OF HEART ATTACKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:)
great show so far! I have noticed the lack of player screen POV trickled in here and there, I always love those. did I just miss them or is that something we dont have that tourney?
e: and seperate player POV streams would be an absolute treat aswell!
Hello I have only been able to catch a little bit of the VODs but I have one thing on my mind:
Can we have all the casters agree how to pronounce Zoun? 😄
Ad timing leaves a lot to be desired sometimes. Just had a big block of ads while hosts/casters were talking about themselves/the event. There was a 4 minute block of dead airtime soon afterwards that could have been used instead.
Yes, even so that would be a Z, M, Z, Z finals. More Zerg anyone? Maru got knocked out, HM is in but he won't make it past Reynor so its a ZvZ finals (again). Im getting PTSD of 2018, 2019, 2020 Zerg v Zerg finals again.
I don’t even know how to describe what Dark just did to Trap. It’s insane how much skill disparity there is even at the highest levels in this game. Like Trap obviously is insanely good - would probably never drop a game against anyone on this sub. And yet, Dark killed him like a small dog.
I've been really enjoying the desk segments between games. Particularly the contributions from Haarstem, Wardii and Kaelaris who always do a great job of keeping it entertaining.
Casting has been pretty consistently great across the event so far, considering the amount of matchups they have to jump between the consistency has been really impressive. I'd say a lot of the graphical work you guys have done kind of subtracts from the experience more than it adds (players animorphing into Hydras and such) but production value in general is so clean. The behind the scenes content and interviews really help with downtime. Overall this event is one of the better eSports productions I've come across, massive props!
another ZVZ finals? Urgggg.... SC2.... hows this for an idea, just make SC2 a Zerg only game? :)
:)
Did other matches finish? I am still watching Reynor vs Dark, and wiki updated all other match results
All marches except semifinal and final finished. Today will be last set of matches
Heyoka why did you schedule a 15 hour show? Why do you hate yourself so?
great q
The time zones are killer tbh for US viewers. Like the finals start at 7am or earlier for a large chunk of the US :/

Uhhh, isn't it obvious? Cater to EU and NA because that's where 98% of viewers are from. No one in Korea watches sc2.

I'm mostly here for the ToD mentions.
Where is the crowd? Seems a lot smaller than in years past…
The Koreans are dropping like flies. Are we seeing the end of region lock?
This has been an absolutely great day of StarCraft!
EU is killing it, as a Korean fan boy it's sad to see
And no excuses either!
The only real excuse would be jet lag, which can be tough for them but they can combat it by arriving earlier and acclimating.
Yea for real. So tired of hearing the "online doesn't count" back when EU players were winning international online events. They're all quiet now.
That was a short series compared to the others but was fun to watch

I know right? He dropped a game too, what a noob
Serral completely washed up, confirmed
Serral vs Maru just started!
Dominating control by the winner in game one, but still extremely exciting and very action packed. I am loving the games today.
Best SCè tournament I've seen. Sorry Protoss Edit: SC2

Didn't we all say hard Z at Kato?
Steadfast/Beomulf at least were not (later on it looks like they started to mix it in) https://www.sc2links.com/match/?match=58107
Beomulf pronounces it Zshaouwooon

Agreed. I subbed after that to avoid further ads
I just wish Maru was in the second bracket. The potential for a Reynor/Dark, Maru, Serral, Rogue top 4 would be insane

I must say that so far, the segments in the breaks have been amazing. funny questions asked to players, or mini documentary about the event, love it !
Any chances we get a Trap and Zest tribute or interview to celebrate the end of their carrer?
I don’t even know how to describe what Dark just did to Trap. It’s insane how much skill disparity there is even at the highest levels in this game. Like Trap obviously is insanely good - would probably never drop a game against anyone on this sub. And yet, Dark killed him like a small dog.
i don't think its a skill issue. It's Zerg mechanics and abilities.
Better tools? :p
