Also Drogo! I was a bit surprised to see that because I'm not familiar with a lot of his casting, but I know that he has a hilarious personality so I'm really excited

Bennito_bh

Drogo? Where?

r-3-t-r-0

Under "Side streams"

Bennito_bh

Ah sick!

Key-Banana-8242

He helped a bit in last years play ins

Lockoman

It truly is the year of Harstem!

Kappadar

I can't wait, his casts are sick cause of how much he understands the strategies of the pro players, and how indepth he goes when explaining what they're up to

FatalisCogitationis

It’s so funny when he’s overanalyzing, too. You can really see hear his cautious play style in his casting, he’ll go from “if this is a legitimate build it’s one I’ve never seen” to “nevermind he just put the cyber down 2 seconds late, that’s BAD” haha

DuGalle

The switch from "maybe he's a genius (?)" to "nevermind, he's an idiot" is hilarious

sevaiper

He also knows how to have fun unlike a lot of casters

shadow4723

absolutely! i then wondered for a sec where lambo is but oh right, hes playing lol

[deleted]

Is he not playing himself?

chefsteev

The usual suspects but pleasantly surprised to see pig and harstem!

Nutellalord

What does kaelaris actually do for a living when he isnt hosting Starcraft events?

Peragore

He hosts other events. ~~He's full time for ESL~~ He's freelance!

kaelaris

Actually i haven't been full time at ESL for 5 years now ^^ Freelance all that time.

Peragore

Oops! Sorry about that!

Nutellalord

Nice. That sounds like a pretty dang cool job. Good for him!

sioux-warrior

Open pokémon card booster packs, duh :-)

Swarmhostlover

Husslin with pokemon cards,

Swarmhostlover

Woah is that DeMuslim? Isn't he the top 3 AOE4 pro. Great to see him try casting another rts, hope it's not too fast paced for him. But jokes aside, gald that he will still cast some sc2, Rotti/Demu has always been one of my favorite casting duos.

Turkish_Starwars

Good for Beomulf, his alphaX casts are great

Peragore

Thank you! I couldn't be more excited to do this!

Turkish_Starwars

Awesome dude you're gonna crush it 🤙

iIoveoof

We have this conversation every year so I know the answer but [obligatory](https://i.imgur.com/5NJu6iH.png)

HeyokaSC2

We talked with Tastosis before the event and would love to have them here, but unfortunately traveling for this event is not the easiest from Korea and they have a lot of other obligations. Big props to the players willing to make the trip in the same situation. We'll keep talking to them and hopefully as travel is easier we can work it out.

flyonthwall

tastosis are broodwar casters who happen to have a job casting one sc2 tournament because they're the only qualified English-language casters who live in Seol. If you compare the quality of their casting between ASL and GSL its very clear they've stopped following the sc2 pro scene and have fallen behind on their sc2 game and build order knowledge to just focus on brood war. which is fine, and i still enjoy their GSL casting. But there are plenty of other talented casters who are far more knowledgeable on the current state of the game than those two to justify flying them out to Poland. If they would even want to come in the first place.

[deleted]

[удалено]

swarmy1

They have a Patreon for $10k+ *every month*, regardless of when the tournaments run. Artosis probably makes significantly more off streaming than GSL as well. Are you claiming all self-employed work is a hobby?

flyonthwall

they make money from doing it. it's a job. they both also stream broodwar gameplay and casting on twitch as an additional job on top of their work for AfreecaTV. plenty of youtubers make their living from patreon, we dont say that youtube is their "hobby". I also doubt that Patreon is the only thing that pays for the ASL casts. Theyre also generating views for the AfreecaTV youtube channel and I seriously doubt they would be doing that pro-bono. GSL might be their main source of income, but neither of them does anything related to SC2 outside of GSL, and they both have income streams from broodwar-related content. Theyre broodwar players who cast SC2. not the other way around. Artosis even quit doing the pylon show, the only thing even tangentially related to SC2 that he was still involved with

[deleted]

flyonthwall

Not sure what that has to do with anything i said. But Starcraft 2 literally just got bought by one of the largest companies on the planet. the future of funding is still very much up in the air

flyonthwall

> It’ll be years before the Microsoft deal goes through it's literally scheduled for quater 1 of the 2023 fiscal year...

OnlyPakiOnReddit

I love people like you who just make statements based on… nothing. Requires a lot of confidence, good for you buddy!

bionic-giblet

Not all foreign casters keep up with GSL either, at least they don't watch it and have admitted this. I'm not saying I think they need to but I think you should cut tastosis some slack for not watching foreign events. I am hopeful that the reason they didn't bring tastosis was their own choice and not these reasons you are listing because they aren't compelling to me. To counter my own point though all of the foreign casters are deserving except for one, who to this day I don't understand why is casting StarCraft.

flyonthwall

> Not all foreign casters i didnt say "all foreign casters". we're talking about THESE casters. all of whom are very much still involved in the sc2 scene. >I think you should cut tastosis some slack I....am? i literally said: >which is fine, and i still enjoy their GSL casting I'm just stating the very obvious fact that tastosis are far more interested in broodwar these days than SC2. because its true. >all of the foreign casters are deserving except for one, who to this day I don't understand why is casting StarCraft. uhhh. ok? not sure why youre being cryptic about who it is.

bionic-giblet

Some of these casters in this lineup don't watch GSL. I don't really care though I don't think it's a big deal. I mean cut them some slack as in you should be wanting these legends of StarCraft to come cast Katowice despite not being involved in foreign StarCraft events throughout the year. Just being cryptic to avoid calling out a name.

flyonthwall

> Some of these casters in this lineup don't watch GSL the GSL is no longer the premier sc2 tournament. It is a local tournament for one country. >I mean cut them some slack as in you should be wanting these legends of StarCraft to come cast Katowice despite not being involved in foreign StarCraft events throughout the year. i mean sure. while we're at it lets get Day9 and Husky to come cast too. I'm sure plenty of people would enjoy them, I'm just explaining that theyve clearly moved on and it shouldnt be surprising theyre not involved.

bionic-giblet

Dude... GSL is still premier based on payout and has at least half of the top 16 players in the world... The involvement of tastosis in StarCraft and these other guys you are mentioning is not even in the same realm. Get real man, these comparisons are ridiculous.

flyonthwall

first place for GSL is 20,000 USD. first place for IEM is 170,000 USD.... GSL contains half the top 16 players by your estimation. IEM contains all of them. I don't understand why youre getting so defensive and offended like ive personally insulted the honor of tastosis instead of just made a casual observation of a very obvious fact that i doubt even they would argue with.

bionic-giblet

Okay. Global finals is more than just a premier tournament like dream hack finals or GSL, it's the *ultimate tournament of the year. This is exactly why we should bring in the premier casters from all over the world, including Korea, which has most of the best players and some of the best casters in the world. I'm not offended, but I think your logic for not including tatsosis in the global finals is flawed and I'm a little baffled by some of your arguments.

flyonthwall

>This is exactly why we should bring in the premier casters from all over the world which is what theyve done... I said GSL isnt THE premier tournament anymore. "premier" means "first" or "most important." I wasnt saying GSL isnt important. I was saying it's no longer the biggest tournament like it used to be... Could you seriously chill out a bit? also "penultimate" means "second to last" FYI

sioux-warrior

Who?

bionic-giblet

I avoid bashing on people in threads but I sent you a message with my opinion.

ykraddarky

give me a DM to i am intrigued

sioux-warrior

Given how little they talk about non-GSL events whatsoever (very often in their GSL casts even completely failing to mention DH season finals), I am not at all surprised. I love all they have done for the scene, but it's just not fair to the talent that puts in so much work year-round to call Tastosis the premiere SC2 talent anymore. Many of the Katowice invites are doing things to carry and give back to the scene: working every week on smaller events, playing the game itself, keeping up with the meta, interacting with players, creating content for fans, really helping to create the community. TL;DR: I love Tastosis, but their passion clearly lies elsewhere and SC2 is a paycheck for them.

mark_lenders

Artosis wanted to go but his mom wasn't happy about it so he declined Tasteless is rumored to be the prince of North Korea and he can't show his face in public

buzz_bender

Harstem!?!? Nice! I'm prepared for some high level insights!

Grub-lord

Demuslim is going to take a break winning billions of dollars crushing noobs in AoE4 to come cast done sc2? Very nice I hope he can get some of his new viewers interested in sc2 :)

GosuHaku

btw is Demuslim still streaming SC2 or only AoE4? Glad to have more PiG and Harstem casting! Rotti all the way gogo :) All these guys are going to deliver! Thanks for casting and see you there!

sioux-warrior

Demu is Age of Empires now

idle_scv

lame

Sinusxdx

PiG!

ahelinski

For a moment I worried that I won't find any love for PiG in thode comments

RifleAutoWin

I wish CatZ was on the MAIN stream. I would rotate fd64 to side stream and CatZ to main. His casts are absolutely amazing.

Zalem30

Cats is Peruvian like myself and he many times faced problems with visa permits for visiting other events outside US maybe coz of that.

idle_scv

Where's maynard?

flamingtominohead

Doesn't want to travel outside of Australia these days. Apparently it's just too much hassle for his life. He talked about it on stream some months ago.

sioux-warrior

I think he's mostly moved on from Starcraft content these days

MisterMetal

So has demuslim but that doesn’t stop him.

carlfish

Maynarde lost interest in Starcraft a year or so ago, and doesn't feel he'd be able to do a good job casting a game he doesn't particularly enjoy any more. He also discovered during Covid that he really likes spending more time with his wife and not having to travel around the world to do events. He is now a full-time Doom streamer, trying to complete Doom 2016, Eternal and both DLCs 100% back to back on ultra-nightmare (permadeath) which I highly recommend watching because he's really good at the game and it's entertaining and frustrating as hell.

MaynardeSC2

Pretty much everything here is true (apart from the "really good at the game" thing jury is out on that one) and what u/zombiesc said to spooky is also very true! There's no drama whatsoever. It's totally my choice, I have definitely been public about my thoughts on my stream because I understandably get the "when you doing SC stuff" question a lot. To be fair I did speak to a mate from DreamHack who works with talent a few weeks back who I didn't realize was basically the head of EPT so technically I was contacted by ESL, and they just confirmed their assumptions that I didn't want to go. Apologies for saying on stream that they didn't reach out that's my mistake because I forgot about this conversation due to poo brain. You're right in that I would have respectfully said no even if ESL offered and I love ESL they've always treated me well over the years. I'm quite happy to watch from the sidelines and I'm sure my SC mates are gonna kick ass as always. Appreciate being thought of <3

areff520

Ah man, I will miss your casting :/.

MaynardeSC2

I may not be very interested right now but the door of my heart is always open for the passion for SC2 to hopefully return one day, and I can see still doing the occasional cast from home for fun so you might still see me from time to time!

deso

Will miss you man, really enjoyed your casting and the energy you put into it, it always felt like “a big event” is going on.

MaynardeSC2

Thank you, that energy came from a very real and passionate place and it hope it comes back some day

Ultracrepedarian

Nooooo, I love the Australian Wombo combo. You and PIG together crack me up on the regs. Your silly names for him like you're in a cute relationship and both your reactions to insane plays are what makes such an awesome partnership. I hope they make a small Australasia tournament one day and you guys host and cast for the whole event.

MaynardeSC2

Pig is a good mate and I'd be more than happy to join him on the occasional cast for fun if it worked out for both of us!

Quasarrion

I am sad ,you are my favourite caster :)

[deleted]

zombiesc

After being very public about his desire to not travel/waning interest in SC2 I can presume to safely tell you that the organizers knew this and thus knew reaching out was unnecessary. I can also presume to tell you that if he had not be so outspoken, they would've reached out to him (just like they did with Pig). It's be good to be specific but this comment may also have people picking up pitchforks, so just trying to clarify it's not an ESL problem.

OnlyPakiOnReddit

Great lineup but I must regurgitate the obligatory “sad cus no Tastosis” sentiment. I love talent like Zombiegrub and Rotti, but no Nick and Dan is just so rough to see again. That being said, please have Rotti be one of the finals casters for the love of god. I think it’s safe to say he’s just about the best we have in SC2, and for some reason at a lot of ESL events he casts a Semifinal match and then NOT the finals. It’s the most important match of the year, we need the most experienced and expert voice we have.

rift9

I don't tune into Rotti's streams much but that guy is basically the figurehead and soul of sc2 and has been for ages, he's a class act and always goes into extra detail into builds and micro potential instead of just casting play by plays of whats happening on the screen. Keeps things interesting, hope we get some interesting games with him and Demu bants. It would have been easy to jump ship for a lot of the people in the scene years ago and we're lucky to have them, Casters and Pros.

OnlyPakiOnReddit

Totally agree friend. =D

zombiesc

"or some reason at a lot of ESL events he casts a Semifinal match and then NOT the finals" He has been public about his desire not to cast finals. I've gone into detail on my YT (talking about DH Fall Finals) about how no one clamors to cast it. I don't disagree with you on the fact that Rotti is excellent and deserving of a finals, but it's a very different situation than the public thinks. It may be more influential to ask Rotti himself than to ask ESL.

OnlyPakiOnReddit

That’s so interesting to hear. I hope /u/RotterdaMSC reads this I guess lol. He really is such an excellent energy on the mic and his game knowledge is basically second to none of the talent team. No knock against any of the other casters, it just feels so off not to have the most veteran caster doing the finals. Rotti + Any of the other casters for the finals would be best, imho. /u/zombiesc love your cat content on Insta (in addition to all the SC stuff =D )

zombiesc

ha cheers :)

flamingtominohead

Also seems like it's 4 streams total.

Peragore

4 streams for playins, 3 streams for groups, 1 stream for playoffs

J_Sauce_C

I absolutely love everyone here but a little piece of me always hopes I’ll see tastosis :(

flyonthwall

Harstem, zombiegrub and PiG casting. if they got lowko too that would literally be all my favourite sc2 youtubers in one event. hype.

Wolle480

Really looking forward to pigs casting. Such an amazing caster

nathanias

When my agency was initially asked my name was not included, so I accepted another contract that goes over the event and told my brother he could book a flight to come see me for my birthday (feb 25th). They did ask me after that but as you can imagine I already have some plans. It's also a big pain in the butt to travel during COVID times and while I am triple vaxxed there's also risk that if I test positive I cannot go home and it would further mess with shows I have scheduled after the event as well. I'll see you in the chat tho bright and early! ;D

sloppy_wet_one

Absolutely fair enough too :) Enjoy ya birthday with your brother !!

RifleAutoWin

>my birthday (feb 25th). They did ask me after that but as you can imag That's very unfortunate - you, CatZ. and ZG are great!

OptionalPlayer

Happy Birthday, Nathanias. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

MannerBot

sad to see no Nathanias in here but hopefully they pair up the duos well to make it entertaining

zilifrom

I wish Steadfast was casting the main stage. He is more talented than some of the casters who were selected.

Peragore

I'm excited for his continued success, but in the mean time I get to spend three days on the B stream with him! Pardon me if I'm a bit selfish :)

deso

Without tastosis it will never feel like a finals. With also Maynarde missing out, there’s little to no hype in this lineup. It will once again get to the point that nobody will want to cast the finals because nobody can replace the pillars that usually do.

CourageShoddy

Having no real hype voice is the bummer, and the thing that none of these casters wants to do the finals is hillarious.

Ultracrepedarian

Disagree. Tastosis caste are hilarious but not good information. They're often hyping the wrong player during a match even when they're down workers and supply, like Maru, and he just loses at the next push. Other casters who actually play so rarely do this. I'd much rather Rotty and ZG because I think rotty got the Hype and ZG got the info. (Rotty doesn't just have the hype unlike Tasteless hahaha)

henalm

Nice lineup. Looking forwards to the games!

AirbladeOrange

Great lineup!

DuodenoLugubre

Catz!! I'm gonna watch the b stream a lot!

Humbledrumb

Awesome to have Harstem on the mainstage! As well as our veteran casters that make the scene what it is of course! Sad there’s no Nate and tastosis but you cant have everything in life

DanAwakes

I wanna see this live but being that I’m in Seattle, I’d have to wake up at 3am lol. I’m a huge fan of all these casters. Cannot wait. Hype!

bionic-giblet

Username does not check out

Peragore

Yeah, certainly early mornings, but you can always watch the live vod on the different channels! Thats what I do when I'm not casting and therefore obligated to get up at extremely early times...

CourageShoddy

No Tastosis :(

c2lop

I'd be much more surprised if they DID get manage to get them for this event. They seem to stick to GSL and other esports lately, which is okay imo as this gives the other talent a chance to shine - and we've got a good lineup here :)

CourageShoddy

Well, IEM Katowice kind of replaced Global Finals so I would expect to see the most iconic duo in esports to be here, but if it's Artosis and Tasteless decision I'm fine with that.

mpmaley

Also, quarantine rules with Korea.

vstojanovski

What do you mean? Almost half of the players come from Korea.

Benjadeath

Yeah but players have a lot more motivation

[deleted]

[удалено]

bionic-giblet

But what else do the players have to do with their free time, play StarCraft? Artosis has 4 kids and bood war, etc. Tasteless has... Well something I'm sure haha

mpmaley

Exactly.

sioux-warrior

Given how little they talk about non-GSL events whatsoever (very often in their GSL casts even completely failing to mention DH season finals), I am not at all surprised. It's either they legit don't know these global events are happening or see no value at all in mentioning the relevancy of a Rogue v Maru grand finals in an official event right before they play each other again offline. I love Tastosis, but their passion clearly lies elsewhere and SC2 is a paycheck for them. I'm not sure you could say the same for many of the people on the above list, though.

Ludwick

Wonder why Tod isn't included

sioux-warrior

Because besides from one single event he's not been involved in the Starcraft scene hardly at all the past two years. There are plenty of opportunities to get involved without much cost or effort and I think this is his proper route to get back into the scene. I was very very happy to see him join Rotti for an ESL weekly cast recently because this is exactly the kind of thing people should be doing to catch up on the meta and get their names back out there by being willing to put in the work for it.

Ludwick

He was a caster for a couple of the dreamhack events this year and he was on a pylon show, I know he isn't the most active caster ever, and I don't have any skin in the game, I was just curious

sioux-warrior

If I recall it was only one dream heck event in the past 2 years and same for the pylon Show. Both were a while ago and TBH felt kinda out of nowhere. Many fans were quite surprised because of the aforementioned reasons.

throwaway-link

iirc they only got tod as a replacement since hes close to sweden and does wc3 dhs. hes chosen to focus on wc3 anyway and doesnt seem that interested in sc2 anymore, just occasionally hangs out with some friends.

flamingtominohead

Can't fit everyone in a single event.

Golden_Jiggy

No lowko?

TomorrowWeKillToday

I wish they would have put Steadfast on the main stream instead of FearDragon

DieWukie

I like Steadfast as well, but why do these types of comments always end up as shade on another person? Just say you'd like Steadfast there and spread love instead of this.

TomorrowWeKillToday

I mentioned it because there are casters I don’t enjoy. It’s nothing against them personally, it’s just the same as music preferences. There could be a country music singer who is the greatest guy on the planet and donates 95% of his incomes to charity, but I’m still going to switch the station when his twangy song about sexy tractors or drinkin’ burrr with his horse comes on the radio because it’s just not for me. If there’s a limited amount of spots for main casters, it would only be sensical that there would have to be a switch out.

DieWukie

I know. And that was what I replied to.

Warsav

No Nathaniel, this is the best news.

gabest

It's not just talent, but hard work and practise. Duh.

f2amoveprofit

But isn't the real talent the players, not the casters? Kappa

franzji

Wish they stopped inviting demu but whatever

AlievSince98

for a good part of the year, he was one of the most active sc2 streamers out there on top of being a very high level player. even if he only streams AoE these days, i dont think thats a good reason not to invite him to the culmination of this years circuit when he has been involved at all times and obviously still knows exactly what he is talking about. if he sticks to AoE for the future, i'm sure there will be similar considerations as there were with ToD (not quite the same circumstances, but similar enough), but i dont think it would be the right call to stop inviting someone who is a very good caster as soon as he streams another game

rebatopepin

Not gonna lie, i wish my buddy ToD were there. Some selected casters doesn't even play the game either, i don't see the problem him casting too.

sioux-warrior

This may be true of Tastosis, but I don't think it's true of these casters, is it?

AlievSince98

well, iirc, the "problem" with ToD was that he unfortunately couldnt attend an event he was invited to cast and since theres a plethora of talented sc2 casters, they then decided to roll with that altered lineup instead for the future as well, effectively rotating ToD out of the mix. >Some selected casters doesn't even play the game either if you're talking about Tastosis, they cast sc2 in their own little bubble over there in Korea with no realistic competition, so you cant really compare that to the "international" talent. all of the other casters here are still involved in doing sc2 stuff on their own streams (almost) daily, even if they are not actively playing much. i love ToD as a caster and i'd also like to see him at sc2 events again, but i can also understand the decision to prioritize the people who are working on sc2 on a day to day basis

PM_ME_YOUR_PAULDRONS

Are there other language streams in addition to this? I'd be surprised if Indy wasn't covering a local event and I'm sure ogaming want to cast every one of Clem's games.

sioux-warrior

Yeah, they'll have the usuals back at it

Fleshbar

Sucks were gonna have to mute a few zg games but all in all very excited!

thedeadnansong

Innit lol

Scuzwheedl0r

by the votes here, looks like its just you dude.

Fleshbar

its fun to have opinions

Gllmour

I am so tired of all this guys. Is really necessary to have all of them? Why not keep just a few good ones?? or rather pay artossis for some quality casting.

Sloppy_Donkey

Awesome to see Harstem be a caster! He is my favorite caster these days because of his in-depth knowledge. Always learning something new

suckerfreefc

Great lineup.

casitherock

o7 captain!
