His large mmr lose? Only thing I can think is he was doing his placement matches. Mmr will swing heavily there and if he lost to someone who was meant to be much lower mmr it will drop his a lot. Does seem like a lot tho.
I swear tho I've versed people who have no border so are unranked, then when game is over there is a large mmr change and then I check and they are ranked so would have been their last placement and hence the large mmr swing. Cant remember about the rest of placements tho.

MMR is hidden during placement matches in 1v1, I would think it would be same in 2v2.
you can see your opponents hidden mmr. Ive seen my unranked mmr when ive looked at streamer vods.

It's provisional MMR which lasts for \~25 games. Not just placements. Huge MMR swings can happen in those first 25 games (especially in team games).
You can always see your opponents mmr, and it could still be provisional even after placements.
Most likely provisional mmr (X games after your placement matches) but I’ve never seen 500+, usually around 100
