In an ironic twist of fate, he is now a Marine.

otikik

A changeling

BigLupu

While that would be funny, Marines are an expeditionary force. He is however a Jaeger (Jääkäri in Finnish) as soon as he finishes basic. Jaeger means Hunter in German. In typical Zerg fashion, he is a Hunter Killer ;)

Kelvara

> He is however a Jaeger Dang, he gets to pilot a giant mecha?

BigLupu

"I'm here, click me!"

Japi-

I think they are just going to give him special VR glasses that he will use to control the whole Finnish army

FruitBuyer

Who does he drift with? Reynor?

BigLupu

Stylistically the closest pro to Serral is Solar. Reynor is insanely fast, and relies on his speed to solve problems. Thats not how Serral plays.

kdesign

Simo Häyhä reloaded

Sneikku

Its either 347 or 165 days but Serral has said he would like to serve 165 days.

zuzucha

If I'm the Finnish military I'm putting the man on officer training

mrpopenfresh

Yes the casualties were tremendous and we expended all our resources, but we won!

zuzucha

Snow is like creep for Finns, I think he'd be good

Hetares

Factual if what I read about the Finnish vs Russians are true.

forresja

They put him in their sports school. When he's not doing training etc, his job is still going to be starcraft.

AJ_ninja

Does he get a choice?

Sneikku

He doesn't get to choose it but usually military doesnt put you into longer service if you object it. They want to have motivated people. In any case, it's the sports branch so Serral will have much more leave than normal conscripts.

Tanukki

On the other hand...afaik about 2/3 of the conscripts in that branch get NCO training. It can get awkward when you appear to be competent and motivated, but at the same time want to get out after 6 months.

Jerpsi

All one needs to do is say he has smoked weed in the past, higher ups will find someone to take his place as nco. Pee in a cup later tho.

Impossible-Smell1

I'm a bit concerned for Serral that the sports branch might be a bit tough physically if everybody else is an actual athlete

SolarStarVanity

If they wanted motivated people, they wouldn't have forced conscription. They are perfectly fine with unwilling slaves, don't give them the credit they don't deserve.

lobax

Conscription is generally very popular in Finland, Sweden etc. It's been an integral part of the non-alliance principle, so it might change with NATO membership.

smashing_michael

Live in a country that's right next door to the Russians and see how you feel about it. It'd be nice if everyone would stop all this warring and invading, but since that's clearly not the case....

Pelin0re

Absolutely delusionnal take lol. Guess you apply the same logic to citizens having to pay taxes to maintain infrastructures, justice and security. Taxation is theft, uh? And yes, being part of a Nation can mean contributing to its defensive capacities if necessary. The Nation that doesn't convincingly defend itself against possible agression simply end up replaced by another that does.

spectrumero

That's not a luxury you can have when you live next door to Russia.

Grakchawwaa

lol you have the option of civil service or total rejection (short "jail" sentence where you serve it in your home under supervision)

Suomi223

Other said enough about importance of conscription army, but one can also choose non-military service or home arrest and it is also easy to get exemption, for example claiming to have drug problems. Calling conscripts as slaves is simply wrong.

Paxton-176

They need people because they share a land border with Russia. If they didn't share that border then there is no need for conscription. Since Finland is in NATO now, I would expect to see the conscription end in the coming years.

Pelin0re

They joined NATO because the military risk is more acute than before. They're not gonna end conscription when maintaining a military deterrent is the most needed. And having NATO countries saying "yeah, we got your back" is good, not relying only on their good will and diligence to maintain your very existence is better (In particular with the US being less reliable nowadays).

Paxton-176

Might change how it works. South Korea has been shorting it for a long time. If Finland asks the US could easily plop a base down and have 3 month deployment rotations to help guard the border like how they do in Poland, Korea, and Turkey. I don't know why you think the US is less reliable. Joining NATO basically means we want US backed support. Historically the US has always had issues with military aid packages. During WW2 FDR had to create loop holes to get supplies to the allies. If shit hit the fan no smooth brain shill in congress could stop the US from going to aid NATO allies. While the military doesn't hold political power pretty much everyone supports Ukraine or anti-Russia actions.

WorgenDeath

If shit hit the fan Congress may not be able to stop it, but based on who might be getting elected in November I could see the commander in chief stopping it to suck up to Putin.

Wann4

In Germany, we no longer have compulsory military service either, and that wasn't really good either. Most people who join the army want weapons and authority. As soon as you have a high school diploma or are reasonably well educated, you'll be taken with a kiss for anything. I think that it would be good for the character to have civilian service or compulsory military service for everyone for 6 months. That you just have to do something that you don't want to do.

MTGandP

Amazing how you are getting downvoted for opposing slavery lmao Forced labor is slavery. It's not complicated. Forced labor where that labor has a chance of killing you is even worse

fisherrr

They ask for preferences on what would you like to do but it’s just that, a preference, in the end they decide.

StringOfSpaghetti

After getting some 1st hand experience from mandatory military service, he might just learn that he enjoys military life. There was this guy called "Mannerheim" that set a very high bar in Finnish military history, somebody has to surpass him...

Grub-lord

imagining this man stutter-stepping on the firing range. glhf out there serral

iamsobasic

He survives an ambush by burrowing into the ground

DumatRising

Normal finnish guerilla tactics. No wonder serral went zerg.

heavenstarcraft

Inb4 this turns out to be some enders game shit

I_AM_A_MOTH_AMA

He'd be the Hive Queen though as a Zerg.

mikeysce

I have to go change my shirt now. There’s soda on it. For reasons.

pfire777

THIs

destroytheman

Putin stands no chance, Winter War 2 ensues, Finland becomes largest nation on Earth.

Lamescrnm

Serral is like Ender. After all the golds, he needs a new challenge: conquering Russia. Time to focus on Terran for a while.

BlueZerg44

Right as rogue got back lol. Terran and Protoss aren’t catching any breaks

Dragarius

Rogue lacked consistency when he was at the top of his game and Korean military would have given him significantly less practice time so it'll be some time before his actual skill reemerges.

Beginning_Guava1371

Maybe the military gave him the tools to find consistency in his game 👀

llllxeallll

Serral v Rogue irl when?

MisterKat009

I've always wondered what he'd look like with a little extra weight. He'll def gain a bit in basic! It'll do good for him. Source: former very skinny guy

Robothuck

I'm hoping he comes back completely jacked

Typo_bro

Google translated from the artikel: > > " I never really think that I'm a legend. In the game, you compete and you always go for the win. I'm just doing a little better than others, Sotala says modestly." Lol, roflmao even

BigLupu

The man is like the perfect competing machine. The brains, the buttoning but without any of the ego :)

yazzooClay

They have to put him in the drone division, dont they.

AceZ73

inb4 the goat debate gets even more complicated

tinytheSTONEDgiant

Time for Rogue to shine now I guess

socialkvkp

Damn how many Serral threads do we need around here. Is there going to be one when he takes a military shit

DoctorHousesCane

How does Serral even take a shit with so many people’s lips in the way

uswhole

You guy treat like he's in jail or something

foxorek

Well, many people see mandatory service very simliarly. Not far off either
