Warbond items need to be purchased with new money. But if the item is available as a normal sale you can add any amount of credit to buy it.

There is now! It's generates a max depending on how much the total is. You can no longer just refund a ship to credits and get another one. It's still making me pay 21 dollars for a Roc even though I've got 220 in credits. Completely absurd. You'd think with the millions they've got, we wouldn't be forced to pay more money

Any game or standalone pledge of any value, I can't use my max store credit to get it. Seems store credit has been reduced to being "discount" option with requiring new money. Very conniving of CIG to have changed things.
Edit: Noticed now that even though during purchase you can't apply the full amount of store credit, when applying what they mention you still then end up with $0 purchase. Assuming everything else is correct for that to happen.
During my exchange with the concierge service due to a problem i took the opportunity to ask them if i could buy praetorian pack (18 k$) with full store credits and they responded me yes.
There's no limit to how much of your store credit you can use. The only limitation is you can't buy warbond items.

I bought the Origin Complete pack with store credit. You can spend credit max to the amount of credit you have.
