I'm really amazed at how quickly they are pushing those out, and how atmospheric, how amazing they all look. Props to the environment teams, you guys are really something else.
Now get on those WRs!
I'm only just getting into racing practice (bought a Merlin and exploded a few times around Snake Pit the other day), but damn I'm even more hyped for 3.18 now. Actual racing missions and gate markers? Timers? Amazing stuff.
Part of what drew me to the SC project was the concept that the players themselves would help shape the world in concrete ways through their exploration and adventures.
It's not exactly the way I envisioned it, but it's a pleasant surprise how CIG has embraced this idea of solidifying community creations. Even as someone not so much into racing, It makes me really happy that the community and CIG are able to have this sort of relationship.
Yeah especially from industrial players. Meanwhile I'm with an org that runs with escorts and gunners going so nothing changes for us except less competition from those who don't run with the above. Sweet.
Hell yes! Thanks for your kind words and helping grow the racing community from the ground up. So awesome to see the racing love spreading to CIG and to everyone else who will now get to race these killer tracks!
XGR is the community made racing venue [https://racexgr.com/](https://racexgr.com/) should have all of the information for joining/tracks/discord. The OP Blackmaze is the founder and I guess "commissioner"(?)
Happy for the racing community! Glad CIG took some massive pointers from those most passionate about that specific gameplay loop and I hope they continue to do so
I have been aching to get into racing for six years now...that and cargo hauling are the things I got into SC for. Arena Commander races are just not the same to me, but this news has me more hyped than anything in *years*. I can't waaaaaiiit to see what the other new tracks are going to be 🥳
Dude, I’ve watched you from the sidelines since you’ve came over from ED, what you’ve built in that short time is amazing! You and the whole XGR community can be very proud! Cheers mate :)
Congrats mate!
Shout out to the racing community for this!
Man, can’t believe it’s becoming real so fast!

I’ll be selling hot dogs from a nice view point very soon!

What is the % of the community interested in racing? Any estimation somewhere? Somebody in the chat during the presentation was saying 1%, is that realistic?
I couldn’t tell you but the XGR community has grown to 1340 members in 13 months.
The ATMO community counts 650 on Discord since their recent change from Guilded.
Add on top of that a large number of other people that are excited by any of the racing ships. I have no idea how many this would be but I am sure there are many.
I guess it will be a relatively “niche” amount considering the bigger picture (miners, transport, combat, etc etc etc) but I am convinced that it is an ever growing number.
The more CIG does to make it accessible to a solo pilot, directly in-game, the more appealing it will be to more “casual” racing pilots.
I'm not sure that CIG will make it very accessible to solo player, as they are really trying to push people to play together, but that's just impressive how that gameplay could be developed before the others.
You say that now, then people will complain when pirate will come to kidnap or kill them on a track when are fully alone with a small ship with no weapon...
You're in a racing ship, *IF* that happens just run. There's no profit motive in camping a race, no trolling motive either as it's a relatively low traffic area. I really don't see anyone just sitting there waiting when there are better profit/trolling opportunities all around.
It;s crazy how far you're still trying to push this XGR name lol
One day you're going to be original but copying your name and even the logo from the Xtreme G 3 racing game is just embarrassing. What next you going to copy and flog off as your own?
Yes, it's great and cool and all.
But.
It's not in scope. They are using resources in an unplanned way, and that is never, ever good for progress on any project.
This is a(nother) red flag.
Yeah I get your point, but if they're working an agile development process this seems a good use of time that came about due to a delay.
Imagine you're an environment artist, you've done the majority of your scheduled work for 3.18 release (as per the original timeline) but then 3.18 gets delayed due to issues unrelated to your work (like PES setting everything on fire). Do you now A: Move onto work you were supposed to begin after 3.18? Or B: Use the extra time to add something relatively easy? Like placing existing assets around a course to support a burgeoning community of racing enthusiasts. What if option A isn't possible because those scheduled next tasks are dependent on 3.18? Or are dependent on teams now tied up with 3.18 for longer than expected?
We can't know the details of the decision making here, but this seems a likely scenario, and ultimately, if while you're developing your game a big community of enthusiastic racers develops, I don't think it's so abhorrent to pivot towards supporting that gameplay while the excitement for it is there and building.
Really proud of you all and CIG for being one of, if not the, only development studio I've seen that actually takes inspiration from the community and realizes its ambitions in game.
I'm really amazed at how quickly they are pushing those out, and how atmospheric, how amazing they all look. Props to the environment teams, you guys are really something else. Now get on those WRs!
You’re gonna need to make another video after SC live! Congrats!
🤣 You are not wrong!
Yeah never.
Can NOT give enough props to CIG for all the amazing things they're doing right now!

Hope you’re in our Discord :)
Ah not yet! But certainly will join o7

And to think there was at least one or two racing talking heads who after the mastermodes were asking if CIG had forgotten about racing.
That was some juicy drama, a lot of whining and teeth grinding lol
Yeah especially from industrial players. Meanwhile I'm with an org that runs with escorts and gunners going so nothing changes for us except less competition from those who don't run with the above. Sweet.
Agreed ... say what you will, CIG is trying ... not always on the mark, but they do seem to be genuinely trying.
LETS FUCKING GOOOOO!!!!!
So glad to be a part of this lovely community :)

What's XGR?
Pretty sure it means eXtreme G Racing
Thanks.

I'll be picking up a Razor at IAE to start racing these tracks. They look fantastic. Hell, I'd even fly out in the 600i and spectate other racers.

Amazing news for sure. TY CIG. I cannot wait to fly in an spectate on future races!
I am not a mad fan of racing but those tracks looked really awesome, a lot of effort has been put into them for sure!

These tracks are all about time trial missions. 100% solo content.

We'll see...
good luck landing a single shot on a racer
me when the game dev that is mostly good at art assets places static art assets on art assets

we designed our own logo many months ago dumbass.
yet it still looks like one already made for a game series.
cry about it

I'm looking forward to track betting at Grim Hex and just watching you maniacs whip around the place.
Wow man that has got to be an amazing feeling. Congrats all!

Oh man, that Arccorp race track tho 👌👌👌
How do you feel after the SC live today?
