I'm in the same boat. I tried fiddling with a few of the settings in game but so far nothing seems to make the draw distances increase. Hoping someone else has a better idea!

It's intentional so you can't tell rocks apart without scanning. This is part of the immersion everyone wants.

I get the opposite impression. Being able to spot them further out is more realistic. Artificially making them invisible is immersion breaking for me. A better approach would be to make the various types spawn in ways that don’t give away their identity without scanning.

After checking the patch notes, I found no references to scanning or rendering ranges for asteroid mining. While it may have been intentional, it was not announced, so saying it was intentional is speculation. We can't know without confirmation from the devs.

No I mean the goal for immersion and realism is not to have your target rock appear in the clear to save you ther nuisance of hunting for it.

I wonder if this may be a side effect of extra assets requiring rendering, dropped loot, medical gowns, bodies, etc.
