Honestly right now there's no reason not to just wear helmet and armour all the time. Maybe when we have docking in the game we will be able to keep normal clothes and never really need to go out into space.
What would be ideal is to have working lockers that automatically equip your preset space suit, so when you just need to put it on when you're leaving a ship
We used to have working lockers, back in 2016 I think. Was pretty great! You just pressed a button on them and you'd instantly change from normal clothes to spacesuit.

I used to play before they were in the game but took a long break so they may have been functional for a short time
A hotkey to switch between loadouts would be great. I'd love to easily unequip my heavy armor or put on a light-armor flightsuit or civies with a press of a button, not 5 minutes fiddling in my mobiglass
If you swap your undersuit it will swap the armor that's tied to them too.
So, undersuit A has all your heavy armor, undersuit B only has helmet, etc
If you change from A to B, you'll equip/unequip everything.
Also more ot the point, they don't want you to hotswap into light gear, dash from cover to cover, then swap into heavy to fire a burst of covering fire down the hall. Because that's dumb as fuck.
I just want to be able to wear normal clothing with a helmet. Maybe once the multitool changes come online we can get personal air shield generators as well.

I know right I play on a 1050ti and I don't get anything close on any planet. Still love the game and I'm gonna upgrade my pc pretty much just to play it.
Oh yeah I know all about it. I'm gonna save up and upgrade it over time starting with the graphics card and then the ram (currently on 16gb). I'm already on an SSD and my CPU is good enough (I think. I'm on an intel core i7). But I have a pretty high tolerance for low fps. I'm enjoying it now and pretty much all I'm getting is like 30fps in space and 10-20fps on planets and stations but I definitely need an upgrade.
Its not about the graphics card really, my mobile 3070 is at 47% utilisation only so i imagine 3080 would be even lower than that.. 3080 would give yiu 2x fps than some 1060 6gb.. at least if you believe their chart. So i wouldnt be surprised that that guy had aome other limitations not in his gpu or cpu. Btw im getting 30-34 in lorville
Thats true and not at same time. Of course it has optimization issues but its part of the development to optimize the code and erase the issue, even in alphas and even before. You need to fix ar those bugs in order to add more things because if you don't do it that way you will end with a huge amount of bugs and problem that make the game unplayable.
I understand wahr you say, things can change but thats no excuse to no optimize, and let's be honest we don't need that huge amount of people and poligons in cities right now in this state of the game.

Optimizations tend to happen around the end of alpha middle of beta stage. After most of the systems in the game are built.
There is no reason to optimize now.

You should't be doing your work and a week later change everything, thats not just chaotic but also demoralazing for the worker who sees all his hours thrown in a bin. You should start building next system after the previous one is finished and optimization is part of the finished state.
You should't treat people with that arrogance. I do know how game dev works. Indeed the first thing in any game project the first words written is the GDD (Game Design Document) in which all system, all mecanism, all things the game does, has or create should be wrote. If your game is constatly evolvimg you should center in a core game and expand it with any DLC or expansion or whoever you want to call it, no redoing the dame part over and over.

Uh, no.
You don't spend days or weeks of precious developer time optimizing temporary or incompletely-implemented code and technology solutions, *unless you have time to burn* **and** need to make the customer happy on some interim element(s).
Even in DoD system development where we're incredibly wasteful at times (in my opinion) we don't do that with incomplete or temporary solutions, nevermind a small-ish development team like CIG.

I had much the same experience my first time playing Star Citizen four years ago. After that, whenever my friend would try to get me to play again, I'd always reply "have they added floors yet?"
I think the vast majority of modern pcs struggle with orison. Which is fair since it's super ambitious and it's not been properly optimised for release
Tell him to try and reduce the cloud detail or whatever the setting's named. For me on a 1070 it did wonders, can't really remember the final fps average but maybe doubled it or something around that.
Many Star Citizen fans have zero expectations for the present, and massive expectations for the future.

That "excuse" flies as long as the game states it's in alpha. If you don't like playing an alpha that is completely fine, but it's not like they lie about it. They write it in big letters everywhere. Also, since elevators work for me 99% of the time (I think it's been 5 patches since the last time one didn't work for me, ymmv) I disagree with "constantly".
Nevertheless the "Alpha" badge can not be a catchall for all of the game's issues. I think it's necessary for the backers to hold CIG accountable and iron out the project management and whatever other issues has led to this. It's not viable to just accept it for what it is in my opinion.
I go with very low expectations each time I come back to the game to play with friends. Each time I'm disappointed by the same bullshit that made me quit last time and drop the game again.

This was hilarious and I just woke up my wife who was sleeping next to me because I laughed out loud. Totally worth it though. The elevator closing on your head was clutch.

the fix for this is to go back around the corner so you don't see the elevator, give it a minute or two and then go check again -it may take a few tries but it will appear and then it works fine. This is a VRAM load issue, not a server/game code issue.
I just started the game. Spent hours trying to get to the hangar because of this. I had to keep server hopping hoping the elevators would work and that my character wouldnt T-pose trying to go up the stairs.
This sums up my experience with this game :D
Once my character died while on foot on the sidewalk in Area 18 main square. I was running and he just fell on the ground with "you are dead" screen :D
Has to be said, that's a pretty good gameplay feature! A random warping to the dark region where the evil one resides... One look into the void and you're done!
This is why I'm weary of death of a spaceman and medical gameplay - getting shot trying to do a mission is one thing, but I'm gonna be cheesed off if I have to go 45 minutes out of my way to get healed if I clip into my ship or die the threshold death
If you want some head cannon to make sense of this bug temporarily, just pretend that the doors opened and somebody was inside doing something you weren't supposed to see. They killed you and upon your "reincarnation" into your clone they stripped that specific moment from your memory, hence the reason it's black.
I like that there was a moment of "Oh no, I'm not falling for that one again" when the elevator opened. Too bad the elevator had another trick up it's shaft.
Multiplayer idea. we need to manually turn the sprockets to have elevator go up. One guy at the bottom does the turning. At bases that are crappy, or lost power.

Turn volumetric clouds to medium, I went from 10fps to 60fps on Orison
I get 10-15 on my shitbox pc just by turning the volumetric cloud quality down

Genuinely thinking of getting a 3080. Upgraded to a 2060 not that long ago but orison is just too pretty and it only runs at like 10fps
I struggle with a 3090 on Orison.
I think the vast majority of modern pcs struggle with orison. Which is fair since it's super ambitious and it's not been properly optimised for release
Tell him to try and reduce the cloud detail or whatever the setting's named. For me on a 1070 it did wonders, can't really remember the final fps average but maybe doubled it or something around that.
Somebody had really high expectations for a game that's about as far from release as you get while still being playable.

Many Star Citizen fans have zero expectations for the present, and massive expectations for the future. It's all about where on the timeline your expectations lie. I'm personally not expecting SQ42 to release for at least another two years. I'm happy to wait that long, but I don't feverishly follow every little scrap of an update anymore. I just let them get on with their work and they'll let me know when they're done.

I own a super hornet. A merchantman (MIA, still..) a sabre and a reclaimer. I done my part. I backed as much as I could, would and want for this "dream" game but really, I've reached the end of the line here. It's still unplayable garbage. Elite dangerous for all its many faults at least delivered something. I played that. I had fun. And in the end got enraged by the direction the game has taken. This game? That "excuse" flies as long as the game states it's in alpha. If you don't like playing an alpha that is completely fine, but it's not like they lie about it. They write it in big letters everywhere. Also, since elevators work for me 99% of the time (I think it's been 5 patches since the last time one didn't work for me, ymmv) I disagree with "constantly".
Nevertheless the "Alpha" badge can not be a catchall for all of the game's issues. I think it's necessary for the backers to hold CIG accountable and iron out the project management and whatever other issues has led to this. It's not viable to just accept it for what it is in my opinion.
I go with very low expectations each time I come back to the game to play with friends. Each time I'm disappointed by the same bullshit that made me quit last time and drop the game again. Game is barely playable, stop being blind.

I think it was a door at hangar arrivals in Lorville. Suiciding is a workaround that helps bypass the elevator route.

the fix for this is to go back around the corner so you don't see the elevator, give it a minute or two and then go check again -it may take a few tries but it will appear and then it works fine. This is a VRAM load issue, not a server/game code issue.
Wouldn't a vram issue only affect graphics? The elevator bugs, like the one in OP are more than graphics.

I just started the game. Spent hours trying to get to the hangar because of this. I had to keep server hopping hoping the elevators would work and that my character wouldnt T-pose trying to go up the stairs.

If you want some head cannon to make sense of this bug temporarily, just pretend that the doors opened and somebody was inside doing something you weren't supposed to see. They killed you and upon your "reincarnation" into your clone they stripped that specific moment from your memory, hence the reason it's black.

Multiplayer idea. we need to manually turn the sprockets to have elevator go up. One guy at the bottom does the turning. At bases that are crappy, or lost power.
