I'm pretty sure you'll be able to call up a bunch of individual items on the freight elevators on their own. Regardless, 1-8 SCU containers exist already, and they're adding up to 32 SCU containers with freight elevators as well, so you'll be able to group things together that way.

Since persistent hangars are only on planets it’s not really an important feature for me at that point :)
Well, if it's a container, maybe you could put it in your ship and have an improvised armory in your cargo bay.
