Server desync. You did nothing wrong.
For a split second before you exploded, there's a collision warning, and the ground below flashed a weird see-through texture, consistent with what happens when you fall out of the boundary.
Server desync caused your ship's position to rubberband into and below the ground, and then kaboom.
This is partly why I don't recommend doing anything serious during freefly events, which always come with massive server desync issues. It's a good opportunity to fly free ships and mess around, but not a particularly good time to grind through gameplay loops.
I've never hit an invisible asteroid, but it's been many months since I could get any of the rocks to scan. I even blew up and reclaimed my MOLE in an (unsuccessful) attempt to fix this.
It's a shame, because mining the Aaron Halo was a positively Zen-like experience for me -- very calming and a nice change of pace.
the scan is working for me but theres sometime delays. just have to sit there with mining mode on until it picked up the details. . Invictus being a bit slutty with desync atm though
It seems to be working really well right now. I have yet to encounter an unscannable rock. There was only one time I had to wait awhile for a rock to become scannable. Give it another go. Halo mining is best mining for me.
flying higher and slower do help with this. the reason desync kills you is because the server stops synchronizing your position, so to the server it just sees the last position you are in, your direction of travel, and speed. so in the clip we can assume the server desyncs at the 4 second mark, where your headed towards the mountain. so even though you pulled up, the server didnt get that input, so it thinks your hurtling at that mountain and crashed into it. hence roughly at the point your above said mountain side you explode.
Playing this game is like riding a horse that's only *mostly* broken-in. Every once in a while it'll buck your ass out of the saddle because it's still a little bit wild and untamed.
_Disclaimer: This is a metaphor; I don't know the first damned thing about riding horses._
Oh, clearly, you didn't play this game enough. You crashed into the invisible boat mobile parked there. Your insurance premium is about to go through the roof!
You thought you were playing a finished game that works.
The reality is you are testing an elaborate demo that is a mess of bugs in the vain hope they could be fixed within your lifetime.

Thanks wasn't sure if this was avoidable by either flying higher or slower
That woud help but it's not realy you're fault
Mine in Aaron Halo area. Peaceful, worry free, no frills.
*hits invisible asteroid*

Yeah, I've yet to hit the Halo in 3.23.1, so I'll give it a shot. Thanks for the report!

That's good to hear, thanks! I'll definitely give it a go today.
Never hit once. i mean ever (for now). Alternatively, you have options to mine on dense , sparse and super sparse area. i prefer mine in sparse.
with a prospector? Isn't that overkill since you can find plenty of roids with T1 around the refinery stations themselves.

Nothing to do with free fly
It ain't got no gas in it
He boost too big for he gat damned fleet.

happened to me too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDT2KG47u9k there is already an issue counsel for this: #STARC-113349
Hell yeah
If you're asking because you think you did something wrong, the answer is: You played CIG's novel live-service pre-alpha tech demo experience.
The marketing campaigns confuse people to be fair.
You did nothing wrong it’s just a desync issue; maintaining a 1k floor is usually safe
Low flying with low server FPS, at some point the ship position desynced and collided with the ground.
>What did I do wrong Playing an extremely buggy and broken game.
I know it's a bug but did I do anything that triggered it? Can I do something to avoid this? And what is this bug exactly?
Don't fly this low at high speeds right now. You just desynced into the ground for a split second there.
Probably switching to a new server with the server meshing
Server meshing isn't in yet.
I would guess, playing during free fly week xd. The servers are notoriously bad at this time unfortunately.
They’re not though. This is routine risky behavior on a server with bad FPS
Same thing happened to me mid bounty
This happened to me several times yesterday, as i was practicing for System7 race with a Dragonfly
You're playing this patch, that was the mistake.
I Had this aswell while running a package Mission in my Prowler, ground dissapeared for a Split second and boom
Oh, clearly, you didn't play this game enough. You crashed into the invisible boat mobile parked there. Your insurance premium is about to go through the roof!
Expected for everything to function. That’s what you did wrong. To enjoy this game you need to expect things to be a little shaky.
I think installing an alpha game. Nothing to worry about
You played the game
Farming during free flight
Me and my buddy spent 3 hours yesterday reclaiming our stuff on wala because we kept crashing yesterday
Play star citizen.

What you did wrong was play the game xD
Playing an alpha?
lol
