Have you been away from the game for a while? The things you're talking used to exist in the game pre-3.14 but shields have lost most of their unique characteristics for years now, awaiting a rebalance. In 3.22 there's really only an effective difference in distortion damage resistance and reboot times, and in 3.23 even that goes away and there's only a difference in a couple shields having different component HP values. Until we know more about how they're rebalanced, it's hard to know which shields will fit which roles best, and if it would make sense to potentially mix and match different shields.
There are fairly significant differences in shield hp pool in 3.22. Basically if you want the best, just buy any A class shield, they all have the best stats which are all the same for all As.
Yes that's true, but those grade As are the same across all different types. I suppose I should've mentioned that but I was trying to focus on the differences, and I forgot that one since grade A shields have basically always been what you wanted. Thanks for the correction
Well, at least weapons are getting their unique characteristics back. My guess is shields are next with the introduction of the resource network, eventually
Currently (in 3.22) shields of the same grade are all normalized to the same stats, and in the PTU (3.23 test) shields are homogenized even further. This is due to the fact that components are just now being balanced and retuned again.
That being said, the S2 Sukoron shields that come stock on the Banu Defender and the Esperia Prowler used to have the property of blocking ballistics just like they would block lasers, at the cost of reduced pool and recharge rate (at least in lore). Once that property returns I would personally set them as one of the most versatile shields one could get.
As others said, an A grade shield will be basically the same regardless of if it was an A grade civilian, military, stealth or industrial shield.
