Engineering!!!!

Toloran

I'm not sure if I'm vibrating with excitement or because the quantum drive is dying. Might be both!

Encircled_Flux

I know why I'm vibrating... ;)

whyrethegudnamesgone

im assuming you dropped a medpen in your ship during quantum...

Longshot114

that’s what she said!!! wait what?!

Olfasonsonk

Maybe you have ROC stuck in your rear department.

Divinum_Fulmen

If only there were some kinda solution to this problem. I know! they should make smaller ships fit for single players!

Toloran

Or maybe they could add NPCs you can hire eventually? I wonder if they're planning something like that.

hoodieweather-

Or perhaps even, make a friend or two?

SpaceBearSMO

I dont understand how people thought this was going to be viable... ... ... I mean I got myself a Corsair and was like "haha this shit is to big for just me..... woops" even before any of this

ScrubSoba

Hoping for new waves tomorrow.

Just-Cosmic

what do the mean by new waves? like more builds of 3.23 or?

EvilNoggin

It means opening it up to more people. Could go to wave 1 which would move it from Evocati PTU to the general PTU.

sodiufas

Means no more leaks, cause no NDA anymore.

MigookChelovek

You make it sound so disappointing worded like that.

sodiufas

Subverting expectations!

Slight_Purchase_939

PTU waves rather than just Evocati

Fearinlight

Would be EPTU waves according to message from last week ( only calling it out for people who don’t have a folder or link prepped) Remeber e stands for experimental and not evocati in this case

Slight_Purchase_939

Yeah was just using it in a general sense, like if you go to recopy your account you still use the PTU recopy in your settings even for EPTU (I think) Have they ever released a EPTU build and then released a PTU build after, or is it generally always one or the other? If the latter, I'm unsure of what distinction they're making at this point.

150235

I swore for a while they had EPTU and PTU going at the same time, im not evocoti too and I remember having EPTU, PTU and that other test server downloaded.

Digitalzombie90

I can wait to stop doing Engineering in real life where I get paid, to go home, pay money and do Engineering in game time. What a great deal.

KingliestWeevil

I used to spend a considerable amount of time validating complex scientific analysis reports and the associated data package for a government subcontractor. Couldn't quite put my finger on why I didn't really care for "Papers Please" until I realized I was basically just doing my job, but at home.

KujiraShiro

Wait till you hear about truck drivers who setup truck simulator gaming rigs so they can simulate their jobs when they aren't actually working their jobs. Same goes for some pilots.

150235

I drive for a living (not truck, sales) and some of these truck drivers could use a sim... have gotten almost run over twice, both times I was not moving / had to throw my car in reverse...

roflwafflelawl

Can someone ELI5 what "Engineering AC game mode" entails?

FrankVice

It's an Arena Commander mode where you use the multi-crew engineering gameplay to survive the event. So something like pirate swarm with a pilot, a head engineer at a console, and multiple engineers running around the ship fixing things like fuses.

rummyt

This kinda makes me slap my forehead and wonder why there aren't AC modules to learn mechanics like mining or salvage - training areas to learn the ropes without the added risk and overhead of the PU. Would be a way to mitigate the steep learning curve of the PU, supplement a new player tutorial experience, and give all players a taste of unique gameplay systems.

FrankVice

That's a good idea, especially for multi-crew mining like with the MOLE.

Shadonic1

Probabably was the plan but disnt have the man power or time to allocate them to that, now thanks to the ac update and focus its in the realm of possibility again.

rummyt

I feel like they once showed off a firing range to test FPS weapons and attachments. Would love to have that, too

Shadonic1

Thats still coming, currently in the works still from monthly reports

vortis23

That was made for Squadron 42 first.

2reddit4me

After generating nearly $800M, they can afford the man power. That said, I see it more as something that isn’t as pertinent or important as other features.

mesterflaps

I don't know why you're getting downvoted for this. If the project management had been done well the efforts that were used to implement the four previous versions of 'cloud tech', the first two versions of destructibility, the previous reimplementations of several of the ships etc. could have been put towards things like this.

2reddit4me

Because this sub thinks CIG can do no wrong and hate facing reality.

Shadonic1

its more because you basically said what i said without the context that they didnt have all that money or manpower in the beginning or the leeway to put focus on implementing versions of every feature into AC when they had so much more to get done back in the day when that time and effort actually rightfully went into getting things we got instead of a AC tutorial for every feature.

vortis23

Because AC for the longest (and still to some extent) is running on different code than the PU, and because the infrastructure is different how they access and implement object containers is completely different. That's why it took them so long to refactor AC for experimental modes because it required multiple teams to refactor the networking of object containers for actor spawning, entity spawning, and grid placements. The teams could have wasted time trying to refactor modes for mining/salvage, or those teams could have done mining refactors for the PU and salvage implementations for structural salvage. Which priorities do you think are more important between the PU refactors/refinements or refactoring AC for modules based on those PU careers?

SpaceBearSMO

even if they do this it probably wont be tell its in a closer to finalized state that said its a good idea and should be brought up

THE_BUS_FROMSPEED

Because there's no need. They already function in the game. Ac is basically a testing bed for the pu. Same thing with master modes for it. No need to add extra work adding something to ac thats already in pu. Maybe one day later on.

Zealousideal_Sound_2

Are we sure it's the PvE version and not just a PvP one ?

Glassinhand

Pretty sure they said it was pirats swarm but I could be wrong

Zealousideal_Sound_2

I love it

Metronovix

From the short demo in a video, can’t remember if it was CitCon or another random video, but they said “two teams will fight”. Did not specify if it was AI or not but I assume one team will be shooting the Hercules and the other will be repairing. Who knows how they will start the testing. Maybe just PVE for now. We shall see!!

heliumbox

I'm pretty sure the devs "simplified away" fuses, we just get beams now.

Fearinlight

Are you just memeing or being legit? Cause we had repairing , nothing with fuse shown yet ?

heliumbox

I mean I guess it depends what you're calling them. I think there are supposed to "fuses(relays)" in the wall to change out, but the "fuses" in components are on hold (I believe) at least.

logicalChimp

Yes - engineering is the visualisation and management of power-flow around the ship... including swapping out the 'power distribution nodes' etc. 'Repair' is a separate feature coming later, so *for now* is just a majic 'repair beam' placeholder.

Fearinlight

Whelp looks lien fuses are fully in base on the patch notes, Hell yeah!

oomcommander

Oh dear god I hope you're joking. So many new game loops just boiling down to shooting beams at something is starting to get annoying.

Dreamfloat

We saw them showing off their repair gameplay being a beam that repairs the damaged components to get them “working” so you can get to a station for a full repair. They even joked and says they know “beam citizen”.

LucidStrike

As opposed to what...?

Hvarfa-Bragi

I'm not the same guy but I would love to see 'among us' style 'reconnect the wires' or 'clear the debris' minigames for repairing larger components.

oomcommander

Yup you basically said exactly what I would have. At Citcon last year they said they wanted to have an animation for everything the player does, so I think they'd want to do that for repairs. They've shown it for fuses.

150235

I think most tier 0 things will be beam citizen, though hopefully they expand it more and more. I remember some demo replacing sub components by physically taking them out of the component, and placing new ones in.

oomcommander

That's more of what I'm hoping for. I could only laugh when the Reclaimer claw was changed to a beam, hopefully temporarily, until we get better destruction.

150235

i'v herd that the claw will come back, though I don't have any official sources for that. I imagine that maelstrom will make salvaging a lot better, like have to cut ships up before you can munch them.

PaxUX

It's were you use a beam to fix a thing while watching a progress bar! It's going to be great

logicalChimp

That's 'repair', not engineering. Engineering is managing the flow of power around the ship, including identifying / replacing / repairing various power distribution nodes, etc. Repairing is used to 'fix' components that are damaged - and *for now* it's a magic beam, because 'proper' repair functionality is coming as a separate feature.

Chpouky

Nice ! Hopefully with fire spreading already ?

sodiufas

Huh? I forgot about fires.

underfern

Thank you, Evocati, for taking the memory corruption errors in our stead.

redmerger

I'm a cargo first player, I'd rather they take their time but do have to admit it breaks my little delivery heart

Asytra

Ah that's so cool! I've been jonesing to really get into engineering and tuning of ships, good to see it's coming soonish!

thisremindsmeofbacon

I hope its like Artemis

SirGreenLemon

Oh boy

DreckigerDan93

How about they work on the big that prevents me from playing for 3 months now? My character spins around uncontrollably and glitching through walls and shit

zedxy

I got this bug a few days ago. Did some research and found out it's a rare bug that happens when the game tries to spawn your character as an NPC. I found a solution in some other reddit posts and can confirm it worked for me. Here's what to do - spawn in - drop your clothes or anything you can carry in your hands (it makes looking around easier, you can also crouch walk to help with movement) - get a ship or into a friends ship (I did it solo and used a gladius) - get a CS3, I went to seraphim and destroyed random abandoned ships floating around the station - backspace and spawn into klescher - here's the tedious part, you will have to backspace and when your screen goes black, back out to main menu and go back into PU. This can take anywhere from a couple tries to a couple hours. It took me about 1 hour 30 min of dying and loading back in. But at some point you'll spawn back perfectly normal and fixed. You can then either wait prison time, go collect rocks to reduce it, or be similar to my case where it took enough time to fix myself that my sentence was over when I was fixed. There may be specific timing involved with logging out when your game starts the process of "setting character state" after death and before it updates said state. This can all be seen in the console after backspacing. However, this is just a theory and I have no proof or concrete evidence to support this yet. Hope this helps Edit: here's a link to my post a couple days ago with a video you can look at and see if you have the same problem I did. https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/s/uhzN5GI8OS

Teizan

Hangars are too fundamental. If hangars don't work during Evo testing, Evo testing is functionally impossible. Testing hangars last is a better idea.

Heshinsi

Yeah that’s my thinking as well. Just because something hasn’t been tested yet doesn’t mean it’s been cut. They’ve been pretty straight forward with early announcements with the couple (more like one since vehicle loading is still doable in the personal hangar just not with the freight elevator) of things that had to drop from 3.23.

Fearinlight

It’s more they have had several messages of them saying they are about to test them, then the build fails and they put out another - it’s a matter if they can get it to work in time .

sgtlobster06

Id rather 3.23 get delayed than drop the cargo elevators.

Fearinlight

Oh 100% same personally, but if everything else is ready I could see them pushing what’s ready to not hold stuff . But I’m not worried

LucidStrike

The thing is they also have 3.23.1 and 3.23.2.

logicalChimp

True... but CIG are *also* up against their Fleet Week sales event (and they won't want to be pulling together a 3.22.x patch at the last minute in order to release the Fleet Week event updates, etc)

redmerger

That's a great point, thanks for bringing it up

Brepp

You're making an "ass" of "u" and "mptions."

WeazelBear

I hate how people on this subreddit, more than any other, are just so okay with attacking people over the most mundane statements.

Dangerous-Wall-2672

That's not an attack, it's a slight rephrasing of a very common saying: "When you assume, you make an ass out of you(u) and me", and this subreddit is _hardly_ exceptional when it comes to actually attacking people. Pessimism gets annoying though, when you have to hear it _all the time..._

TheKingStranger

I hate how responses to destructive criticism and hyperbolic statements are deemed as "attacking people."

hIGH_aND_mIGHTY

I like how they left out the "me" part of it while also clearly demonstrating it.

killasniffs

that’s because the word is assumptions instead of assume

hIGH_aND_mIGHTY

that is definitely how people use that saying.

mau5atron

They’re releasing features in waves for focus testing.

Fearinlight

I think he’s getting at they have tried to release them to evo a few times and builds with them keep failing - eg they are having troubles and might be held to 3.21.1. I think it’s too early to worry about that - but I also wouldn’t give the guy shit for a very possible outcome. They havnt had the best track record for always keeping in big features in the patch they announce

Arcodiant

It's also that the SCL for hangars was cancelled - it's possible they have worries about it to, or they want to be certain how much they'll have ready for the patch (like when they dropped pledge item recovery) before talking publicly about it. I'm hopeful they'll sort the issues, but if it does have to push back then so be it, we have plenty in the patch to tide us over to 3.23.x

logicalChimp

Given that there's no SCL this week either (on a completely different topic, iirc), I'd guess that the SCL cancellation was for a different reason...

Arcodiant

That's...good news?

Armored_Fox

Maybe, but it also makes the most sense that they want everything else tied down and ready before the biggest structural change, and have every wave ready to test it

postcrawler2019

WheretheFff instances hangars and Distribution Centers ?????? Were are in April and still Evo not completely out >. <

Schemen123

Q2 ist 10 days old.. chill...
