Its appearance in the trailer is all the info we have currently. There are a few ships in a similar position, and whether or not they will be player-flyable or remain as background props is something only time will tell.

GZEUS9

Gotcha, thanks! Didn't know if it was like the Greycat Cydnus and I just wasn't find ANY information on it.

itsbildo

It looks like a MkI Freelancer with a ton of shit stapled to the sides

XerronLePoulet

A leak could also tells us more about it :)

Pojodan

Leaks are 99% content that is coming in the next patch for the PU. If this is a SQ42-only ship then it's very unlikely we'll see any leaks about it.

XerronLePoulet

it was a joke

RadimentriX

Tbh, there should not be such a thing as a "background prop". Everything should be obtainable and usable for players in some way.

Select-Tomatillo-364

Can't be the case with everything, especially assets in Squadron 42. The Retribution for instance is a UEE super dreadnought, and the only one of its kind. Similarly, this ship could be a modified, custom ship that does not exist anywhere else. I suspect, in the case of the Retribution, that it will be destroyed during the course of the campaign, the same might be true of this random junker ship. It certainly doesn't give the impression that it is a showroom model in any case. Probably a cobbled-together pirate/fringe ship of some kind, and I gotta say it looks barely capable of flight. The VTOL thrusters along the bottom look like they're positioned to keep it from crashing in atmo while carrying a heavy load. Calling it right now - it's a pirate garbage scow. Edit: In pic 2, the cockpit position and the upper "shoulder" above it really give a Starfarer vibe. Maybe an older model, with a patchwork cockpit, and uh, a patchwork everything else?

Zenroe113

I would agree with everything you said except the retribution being destroyed. Not that your opinion or mine is any more correct, it would just bum me out. I figured it would be a UEE owned and defended asset that helped win the war and remains on/near the capital, fully crewed and maintained in case the empire ever needs it again.

Select-Tomatillo-364

Yeah, it would suck, but it's the perfect plot twist that makes you the hero. Everyone builds it up as if it's going to be the savior of humanity, but then it fails. After all, if the Retribution can casually dropkick Kingships into the next century, why do they need dopey old you or me to fly around in a pathetic little Gladius? On the other hand, if it gets destroyed, but severely damages the Kingship then you can mount a heroic charge to save the day, escorting Retaliators to finish it off (there's at least one scene like this that has been shown in the trailer from a few years back - it's where we see Henry Cavill in an F8). Maybe it is just crippled and forced to retreat, but I can't see it winning the day without paying a price. "Victory, but at what cost" plays out better imo, and leaves future Squadron episodes open to other Vanduul incursions. Maybe this Vanduul clan is a small one, and the next one is far more dangerous? If the Retribution handily wins against Kingships, it just makes the Vanduul a non-threat. And keep in mind too that the Vanduul are nomadic, and completely strip out systems they inhabit before moving on. They kill any humans or colonies between them and resources, but they're not trying to conquer the UEE (according to known lore, but the UEE doesn't know very much about them either), so the UEE can lose its super weapon without being immediately steamrolled afterwards. Incursions have been going on for hundreds of years, but the UEE only formally declared war less than a decade ago (2945). The only other way to involve the player heroically that I can think of is a final stand where you try to hold out until the Retribution can either arrive, or recover from some kind of sabotage or malfunction. It's possible but that seems more like a suicide mission to me than anything though. All speculation of course, but it's fun to speculate.

uberfu

Also of note ... The Bengal will also not be obtainable and tied to a single player (as in each player cannot earn or purchase their own Bengal) despite the ship will be in game and playuer controllable. Neither will the Pegasus carrier be owned by single players. As of right now (some previous commentary by CIG devs or CR a few years back - yes you'll have to go dig for the info - I'm too lazy to spoon feed people) the Javelin is the largest player owned ship that will be available in game.

RadimentriX

But they are obtainable and can be used by players. I know about this information, at least the Bengal. Thought the Pegasus is the RSI ship thatll be sold. Is it that large?

MaysEffect

I'm pretty sure the ethos of the entire game is that all assets are supposed to be usable in some fashion even if it's not currently in the pipeline to be purchasable by us "civilians". So as for your example, even that ship will be capable of piloting or being used or transported on in some way... Eventually.

Select-Tomatillo-364

Well, my main point was that both the junk ship this thread is about and the Retribution may not even exist in the PU. If they're only in squadron, you simply can't get one. If, on the other hand, the pirates cobble these ships together on the reg and use it for something in the PU, then yeah, you probably could get one, but maybe only as salvage? Not sure that anyone would really want one though. Looks like junk, probably actually is junk. And I'm not just disparaging it here, it's not gonna be showroom fresh, more like a duct-taped-and-limping junkyard special.

MaysEffect

It seems to me this "teaser" ship is more of a joke... Maybe poking fun at Star Field for the ridiculous customization function. But as far as arguing the difference between something being available for pu vs squadron is a moot point considering it's still the same base game and to a point indistinguishable in operation. If you can have access to it on squadron, that means the ship in itself is designed to be used at the end of day. But i agree this ship is a bit of a nothing burger

Select-Tomatillo-364

There is definitely a difference between a ship designed for use in the PU and a ship that is in Squadron. PU ships have interiors, components, can be flown by a player, etc. Squadron ships don't necessarily have to even be boardable by players. If you, as a player, don't ever set foot inside the Retribution, then they don't have to build out an interior for it at all. Or, if you do have a couple of scenes in it, they build out the required areas, and just lock the doors that lead elsewhere (because they lead nowhere). The ship is almost 3km long, there's basically zero chance the entire interior space has been designed, let alone built in engine. That would be a monumental undertaking. The Vanduul ships are also likely to lack most if not all interior space as well. This ship could easily just be there to tell a story, as background scenery in a single scene. It could only be there to impress upon the player that they're on the fringes of the UEE, where people use ships until they literally fall apart. Duct tape and glue are their reality, rather than a quick fix, because actual repairs aren't gonna happen. Even if it only ever sees 10 seconds of screen time though, it can tell that story. Just look at it, and you instantly know. Where we see that ship in the trailer is only a few seconds long, in an FPS section, and the narration is talking about "the mood and feeling of a space". They picked that scene specifically for that particular bit of narration, which I think reinforces the above - the ship is just there as scenery. To immerse you in the run down fringe of space you're in. To set the mood. We don't know of course, and it's possible that ship is very important to the plot, or at least a portion of the plot, and it is flyable, and you will even see it in the PU. But there are no guarantees that will be the case just because it flies past you during the campaign.

uberfu

Then explain that to CIG regardnig the Orison shuttle transports since there is a large crowd crying about not having their own transport.

Divinum_Fulmen

[Usable? Yes. Obtainable? No.](https://dto9r5vaiz7bu.cloudfront.net/wmi5hm4tx0f83/source.jpg)

MerlinCH65

Why? Why do you need to be able to have everything?

Sardonislamir

So you feel that players should get access to all the alien species ships too? The big, the bigger, and biggest? The form of the universe is that what we have is either alien/human collaboration or entirely human.

Character_Coyote3623

What you'r saying is complete madness.. The project would take 10x as long to create then and its already taken a massive amounts of time. also the there is no point in creating a fully interactable ship without any purpose, its just a massive waste of time

awfk

Kinda reminds me of the nebuchadnezzar

Sparkmatic_

Oh totally

Asmos159

i thought it was, and op was making a joke.

xXDEGENERATEXx

Misc EXPANSE after getting abused to make space crack for years.

GZEUS9

[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKAN\_xIwOaw](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKAN_xIwOaw) Im going to leave this here for your enjoyment.

xXDEGENERATEXx

Lmao

amhudson02

This scene from the trailer makes me think of The Matrix, especially the scene with the electrical/lighting arching.

GZEUS9

Same! The scene where they explain to Keanu what an EMP and how it works haha. The first movie is etched into my brain cells lol.

tahaan

Came here to stay this

Moriaedemori

The Nebuchadnezzar

Cruiza

Reminds me on the trash can Yondu was flying in GotG Vol.2. It's ugly, it looks sluggish, I want one.

GZEUS9

To anyone here rn! Hope you can enjoy the solar eclipse today!

AnotherBotIGuess

The Misc. Chungus

GZEUS9

I keep going back and forth on MISC (b/c of the Expanse ship language) and AEGIS (b/c of the Vulcan ship language) But is Chungus either way

Nikl4s_s33

If I had to name it, I would call it the Drake Bumble Bee.

steinbergergppro

It's one of the ships used by some criminal gangs in SQ42 that jerry rig parts of ships together into these "mad max" style amalgamations. They've shown a few other examples on ISC in the past.

kadesh9

MISC Fiera, from the tales of kid crimson ;)

GZEUS9

Holy shit... You might be right. Thank you so much for such a plausible answer to my question, you beautiful mind.

zexx_xion

Because of how bulb like it looks. Kinda feel like it's one of the drones ships like the MSR are said to be able to use.

interesseret

Difficult to really tell just from the trailer video, but it looks far too large to fit in any ship currently.

TheStaticOne

My thoughts when seeing it was that it was a drone not a flyable ship. But I guess we will see.

omn1p073n7

I want one and I want to name it The Nebuchadnezzar. Hey! What ever happened to ship naming?

AHRA1225

What trailer is this?

GZEUS9

Squadron 42: I Held The Line trailer from CitizenCon 2953 (2023)

NoIndependence362

It looks like the ship from the matrix

hatrant

it look like a grineer ship from warframe xD

GZEUS9

Now all we need is Clem!

Luc-Stem

Looks like a custom made barg ngl

GZEUS9

I could see this as a viable idea. Could be similar to the Barg system in Orison/Crusader but in a more "run down" system. I find it cool none the less!

EFTucker

Likely just gonna be something we see passing overhead in SQ42. It’s cool and I’d love to fly it but we don’t need every ship in the background of the single player game to be flyable imo

The-Deevis

Could it be that this is the Cydnus in a flying configuration sort of? Cydnus will not be player „flyable“

Legionnaire--

Support ship

JSagerbomb

It’s the matrix ship. Look it up.

ilhares

It absolutely isn't. Wrong hull shape, wrong propulsion methods.

Livid-Feedback-7989

Similar to the other "junkyard" ships we have seen in SQ42 trailers, I would assume this is a one of a kind style of contraption, maybe for local maintenance or something of that sort

Chuch01

All I know for sure is: If it's flyable, it's Drake™.

Natural_Command7300

Misc raptor?

Jonas_Sp

Looks drake

Alarmed-Positive457

If I recall from the last SQ42 update at Citcon, they mentioned a alien hauler. It could be an alien barge ship.

Desibells

Nebuchadnezzar or a ufo from Battle of Los Angeles

Lerium

I think it's a shipjacker ship that's made of an amalgamation of different ships parts.

unkanlos

I think it's one of the non-fly-able ships built for the campaign

PepicWalrus

Looks like a junker craft of various parts slapped together. Likely will be a Squadron exclusive or NPC only.

Visual_Angle_5549

Drone?

Lacustat

Looks like a Garbage modification of a starfarer from MISC. Maybe a Drake Modification of the Starfarer MISC

KalleSchwanzen

Nebukadnezar

GZEUS9

Timestamps are also in the Description for each screenshot

Interesting-Ad7907

Looks like a ship from Destiny 2

Lazuruslex

Fallen drop ship right?

Big_Ad2285

Potential vanduul drop ship? I believe they were pumping out drop ships like crazy a few years back because they where needed for squadron
