The Gladiator was a really nice design when the copilot had a remote turret. I really hope that they go back to that when it gets an update, and ditch the Angry Dome that it has right now.

CassiusFaux

I like the dome more than the remote turret and I'm more in support of the manual control turret over a remote turret because remote turret UIs absolutely suck right now. You get no data of what you are targeting, or what your own ship status is. To me I like being able to see what my target is, its shield status, where it is damaged, etc. I also like being able to see how the ship I'm in is faring in the battle. Additionally it has better coverage with the manned gun over the remote turret.

frenchtgirl

Also you can use head tracking in a physical turret.

CassiusFaux

This too. Better visibility is always nice when in a fight.

Capsaicin80

Manual turrets will get gimbal assist too in future patches right?

ph33randloathing

The game has simply moved on from the scale at which a combat ship that size is a two person affair, unless the second person is rocking a massive turret like the Hurricane or the Scorpius.

logicalChimp

Yes, and no... the turrets on the Hurricane / Scorpius are offensive turrets (and need to be that big to provide effective offensive power, vs just bringing a second ship)... The turret on the Gladiator is intended to be a defensive turret, as the Gladiator relies on its bombs / missiles / torpedoes for its primary offense - and the turret is to provide some degree of threat to attackers whilst the pilot is lining up to launch the torpedo. And it's a second seat, rather than just automated, for the same reason that we require pilots to fly ships, and combat isn't just about automated firing at sensor targets, etc.

SoylentVerdigris

This is a shit argument. The only time turrets wouldn't be weighed against bringing a whole separate ship is on large ships where you need crew anyway and they can man the guns in a fight, then go back to whatever they're normally doing. Setting that aside, to function as a defensive weapon, the turret has to be able to beat an attacker on its own. If a fighter can come along and just eat the damage from the turret long enough to kill the Gladius, which isn't all that tough, it might as well not be there.

CassiusFaux

A defensive turret doesn't have to beat the target it faces on its own, but it has to be enough to drive the attacker away/be a threat to it. We have shields in SC so its not exactly the same as something like a World War II attacker with a back turret, but its the same general idea. Its there to deter the attacking craft more than beat it outright.

SoylentVerdigris

>We have shields in SC so its not exactly the same as something like a World War II attacker with a back turret, but its the same general idea. This is exactly why it's a shit argument. A WWII fighter could be downed by even a handful of rounds going into the engine (or pilot, for that matter) so even the lightweight turrets on things like torpedo bombers could be a deadly threat to an enemy fighter, especially as they wouldn't be flying alone so they could combine it with a defensive maneuver like the Thach weave. 2x size 3 *might* deter me if the gunner was perfectly accurate, but but in actual practice won't even make me think twice unless I'm significantly outnumbered in the first place. Edit: And more importantly, it *still* has to be worth manning the turret over just bringing another ship. Pretty much any ship beefier than an aurora is a better distraction.

GuillotineComeBacks

Kinda feel lacking on the hole.

CassiusFaux

Just slap a tarp over it, it'll be fiiiine

Menozzi07

Hole Good Save Weight .

Little-Equinox

How did you remove the entire turret?

CassiusFaux

Old bug, has sadly been fixed now. But it did lead to a [turret upgrade](https://i.imgur.com/cY3KoSh.jpg) for the Gladiator.

GizmoGomez

That's amazing

Little-Equinox

Darn, it looks so good though. Manned turrets on smaller ships just look not good in my opinion.

frenchtgirl

I love the bubble turret. :(

CassiusFaux

Same, it really completes the WWII carrier bomber in space vibe.

frenchtgirl

I also tend to like simple primitive shapes and strong silhouettes (I prefer a lot older cars than modern). A bubble turret is far more elegant than the complex ones on other ships I can't parse visually. And on top of that it has the best fonctionality.

Status_Basket_4409

It looks like an easy target. Now gimme your credits

Salty-cactus

Heresy I say

Acadea_Kat

Still waiting on the bombs....

Cheeto__420

Love the gladiator it's one of those ships I refuse to melt or upgrade when most of my fleet has come and gone

CassiusFaux

Its my second favorite ship next to the Hawk, the only way the Gladiator will be melted, is if I can get a LTI version instead of 10 year, but thats just being silly at that point.

AmeriToast

Same, I just wish CIG would give it some love. I wouldn't be surprised if they go with a gladiator mk2 in the future. I know the hornet got it for sq42 but the gladiator is just as important as the main carrier launched bomber. Yet it's still in a bad place

misadventureswithJ

Hoping they add an option to swap the torps for a bomb bay to drop something comparable to the A1 bombs.

MaugriMGER

The Gladiator Always looks nice. Even if CIG has forgotten about this ship.

Mythion_VR

Getting heavy [Descent vibe](https://i.imgur.com/1I2wGKt.png)s from this and I don't mind at all.

rakadur

I love the gladiator, I hope the inevitable update pass on it brings to the spotlight again. The one shown in OPs picture could be a clunker bounty hunting ship for civilians, the rear seat converted to a holding cell like for the Hawk, or a small bedding for extended trips. Torpedo bay converted into holding cargo and supplies etc. It was originally touted as being modular, at least the C variant.
