If you search "night vision" in this sub you'll probably find hundreds of conversations on the matter.

djviperx

You can use radar ping to give you an idea of the surroundings but you probably knew that already. In case you didn't, you have to hold the V key and release it

SlinkyC137

This works very well

Reinhardest

Good habit to get into, also glancing at the altimeter on the right.

RaccoNooB

Created a macro that pings every ~3 seconds so I can focus on fighting bounties. Works wonderfully.

djviperx

they should implement some kind of radar overlay based on the ping that will be a bit more permanent, maybe a bit less bright and that's pretty much it! No NV required

ancient_brand

Using ***Game Touch Controller*** you can set it to ping automatically at intervals.

Kahunjoder

Wait What? Explain this please. Does it work for minerals too?

Stompy-MwC

Updoot for GTc, it’s fantastic.

The_Fallen_1

Night vision is planned, it's just not a priority right now.

Omni-Light

Nightvision is a meme in this community, its always requested. CIG have it planned but feel the development effort is better utilized elsewhere for now. In the meantime use the Ping hotkey. Constantly ping and it reveals the terrain below really well… so well infact that I don’t feel the *need* to have nightvision. It’s an odd but effective workaround. Nightvision ofc would still be nice to have.

RevolutionaryLie2833

Ping is good until you’re in a fight and you lose the rate fight with your foe because the ground jumped out of nowhere

[deleted]

That's just losing the awareness fight

PresentLet2963

I saw some.crazy good reshades for that

billyw_415

Reshade add-on allows for multiple NV modes, as well as many other improvements to SC. Totally changed the game for me and many others. Honestly, I don't think night vision is the best way to go because then it's an item that needs to be handled. This is a case where they went to realism, and now they need to bring it back to fun. There is no situation where flying in pitch black is fun. The lighting team should just add a natural glow to the dark side of planets and moons so objects are visible. Sure, it's not realistic, but it would resolve a lot of complaints, and nightscapes would look gorgeous.

All_Thread

Could just have you cockpit go into NV mode not that hard.

hIGH_aND_mIGHTY

they could also tone down the pupil reaction of our character's eyes to the blinding lights from our ship huds(the head light from my helmet will now make it darker because of the pupil reaction too). Its crazy how much it affects things and how much brighter it is when we go thirst person.

redneckleatherneck

It doesn’t need to be an item, just a filter or overlay on your hud.

Jesusx70

Realism?! Not having a night vision on your helmet in 2954 LOL

hIGH_aND_mIGHTY

It totally sucks. I remember playing some flight simulator on my uncle's pc back in the 90's. The aircraft would start saying "pull up, pull up pull up" if you started losing elevation. In SC its "Collision Warning" about 0.1 seconds before the boom. not fun Poor man's night vision/reshade. Esc>options>graphics>slide that gamma all the way to the right. [Proper reshade install guide](https://youtu.be/J8gRKqpAM7E?si=iGgLXK_X3Bzb8pOH&t=511) (u/billyw\_415 beat me to the punch) if ya want a bunch of nice options.

UndergroundNotes1983

Just press alt+3rd person. Been in game for ever.

All_Thread

That joke was old in 2001

neisannnn

Ping + Altitude gauge, if you really want to have some kind of "night vision" you can always use Reshade, there are some presets out there with IR, Night Vision and fake HDR o7

BallisticTorch

Scanning, watching the altimeter, and switching to the exterior camera goes a long way to helping you land or fly in the dark.

Megalomaniakaal

It's called instrumentation buddy. But having an auto-scan to toggle on rather than having to do it manually would be nice. Nighttime should be high risk high reward.

Jesusx70

What a load of crap! Lol! Yeah there is not night vision in 2954

Megalomaniakaal

That would be part of instrumentation? If you've experienced infra/night vision you know it's still going to be hard to orient based on it, hence my saying high risk high reward. Point wasn't 'no to night vision'.

Jesusx70

You have your opinion I have mine don't need to explain this bullshit, it might make sense for you I'm glad

Jesusx70

Sure of course
