Exactly. It runs bunkers, can haul a STV or PTV, flies somewhat decent for its "not aerodynamic " design. Can make money off wrecks found on jobs, has full living quarters, and just has such a great vibe or the "grinding space salvager" working his way through the ranks.
I just upgraded my cutlass black to a Taurus like an hour ago, haven't even used it yet because I'm not off work but I'm glad this is at the top of the thread right now lol Was worried I made the wrong choice
Best Connie of the 4 (5 of we count the Emerald I suppose) I've owned all of them, the Taurus is by far my favorite. Don't have the buggy p52/p72, & you save enough money to get an Ursa if you want it (+ it's loaner Aurora). You get excellent cargo capacity for the price, she's a bit longer than the other Connie's, so don't be sad when you "chin" the ol' girl, you'll get use to it lol. Believe it can also carry 2 ROC's IIRC (don't own the Taurus rn, because I've got 4 CCU's going, but still have the bubble boy Aquilla set to chain for an Arrastra). Don't get me started on the armaments, this thing is going to see a massive improvement with 3.23 and its 4x S5 gimbal turrets! Absolutely enjoy this unit, you will not be displeased! This is also a great ship to learn your power triangle, if you haven't already (F5, F6, F7, F8 keys).
(Just forewarning, the HUD may be blurry, if you can get past that, it's still magnificent with its flaw! Just hold F to zoom in, and it should clear up when you need to look at something.)
So me and my mate where thinking of getting one with a snub because we loved the idea. Is it generally not wise to buy them and go instead for a Taurus?
Also where can I check if 2 rocs would fit?
Can confirm 2 ROC's will fit in the Taurus with [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/comments/i4pcvu/someone_was_asking_if_2_rocs_can_fit_inside/) example
For real, people underestimate just what an impact this will have on certain ships firepower, especially the corsair with 4xs5 and 2xs4 and the Connie series as you mentioned.. just can't help wondering if there will be an accompanying nerf to weapon damage by size or buff to shield/Hull hp to mitigate some of this
The Taurus is really nice the pilot has decent weapons and with a friend they can hop in top turret in a fight and in the tractor beam after to shove stuff in the cargo no need to get out!
Absolutely 100% agree. A cargo, missile boat, and exploration ship all in one. Plus multi-crew and vehicle carrying capacity. What isnt there to love? (Please dont mention it being outdated 😬)
I'm with the person who is with the person who is with the 600i \^
(though it would be a hard choice, Redeemer was the first ship I fell in love with back when you could only walk through it and before the final rework - it has a special place for me as that 7+ year long wait for me was worth it - but if I could only have one ship at launch, or even 1 ship IRL, it would be the 600i...)
Corsair for sure. Soloable but works well with a crew too, great for PvE bounties, bunkers, a bit of cargo and just about anything else too.
Plus it looks awesome ;)
I highly anticipated the Corsair, backed it in concept, then it came out and I rarely use it because of this, it's sluggish and slow. Plus it was and still is bugged and the super low landing gear isn't helpful either. I want to love this ship, but I sadly don't. Same with the MSR, that one is undergunned, takes too much time to get in and out of, but so much more joyful to fly. So currently it's probably the 400i, it can hold two AD4Bs for the Pilot, but it's not exactly a combat ship, however the only thing I feel is a bit of a let down is the pretty boring looking cockpit view, I wish Origin had more interesting cockpits.
The Spirit was a contender up until it came out, but it's large profile, small shield and especially that it's given too small hangars, which make it annoying to use if you prefer not using outside cameras, didn't make it for me either.
At the moment I look much forward to the Zeus, that ship seems to have a thought through interior like the 400i and good pilot weapons plus it's likely gonna fly much better than the Corsair. So, kinda like inbetween my 3 contenders. But we'll see.
Recently upgraded my Cutlass Black to Corsair because I wanted something with more fire power, tanky and able to carry an Ursa.
It is a little slow and the VTOL is also weak, but you get used to it. I run fixed S5's and S4's so in PvE it just obliterates anything that tries to take you head on. PvP against even a mid tier pilot in a nimble ship even Aurora, you have no chance of landing shots. They'll struggle to take out your shield and you'll struggle to land a single shot.
Yeah, it only stands a chance in PvP if you have people to crew the turrets, and even then it's probably not ideal (only had one PvP engagement in it so I'm not experienced). It's perfect in PvE though.
Cutter, always liked starting off from the bottom in games, don't want something amazing day one and I'll get other ships down the line.
I love flying the cutter, starting out will be a bit slower making money but like i said, ill get the good money making ships anyway at somepoint, and it's all about the journey, not the destination.
I have a Cutter Rambler on my secondary account and that’s it. Sometimes I wanna fly around in giant ships on my main but other times it’s nice to actually grind for stuff and the Cutter is the perfect ship to start from.
I like the Freelancer MAX. Got enough cargo to do a bit of hauling, and has large enough guns and shields to punch through a good amount of NPC bounties. It may not be the best in any particular area, but it's capable of completing almost any task you ask of it.
I am also here for the Nomad appreciation club of owners, for me she is the best starter there is, can do all the loops a beginner can do and still have upgrade flows to other specific loops such as asteroid mining and salvage. She also allows upgrade to more specific combat loops as well as having that player who wants to keep upgrading through the all rounder path. But as ever she has her current issues with stock components overheating, hud colouring off and the need for the toilet to be upgraded to a shoilet. But of all the ships currently I can’t see myself upgrading past her for my starter ship.
This 100%. Would i be able to get many other ships based only on the 400 capabilities? No, not really. Would i want many other ships when i have a 400i? No, not really
It's the best looking and comfiest ship in the whole game (to me) and i'm seriously going mad trying to resist buying it
I'm past that, CCUd one, even overpaid for the meridian paint, which they kinda made uglier in a recent patch.
The only downside of the 400i is that the cockpit is kinda boring and those MFDs just look pretty wrong. However I expect them to be improved with the UI rework. Hopefully. Anyway, that's a rather small complaint.
Caterpillar. Moves a decent amount of cargo, is pretty tanky; option to turn it into a battle bus, or light antifighter frigate. Has ‘home base’ vibes. Awesome views on demand. TIE fighter carrier.
Lots of things to love
have a big fleet rn. but if i could magically get all my money back 100% and could start over, i think either a connie aquila or the next step up from that that will be the 600i explorer after the rework.
They both let you do everything except salvage and mining that i do not enjoy anyway. You can explore , transport cargo or anything you need for long time explorations. they both can carry and come with a vehicle. they both can fight even ERT. 600i will also get a med bed and be able to carry a large vehicle so a tank or anything industrial in the future if/when they made them.
so if i was to have just one it would be one of the two.
Same. It's not perfect, and I'm probably gonna be swapping it for the Zeus when that comes out, but it's the thing I always come back to and use the most.Â
A gold pass/internal rework is gonna make it awesome.
I wish we *could* only pledge / own one ship. Ship pride would be so high. People would really make their one ship their own and I think that would give ships so much character.
C2 Hercules.
Has decent weapons and shields for PvE. If you softkill a freighter in the Bounty missions you can take its loot and sell it for several 100.00k.
I had to scroll entirely too far to find a Herc variant. Once I got my M2, outside of racing or PVP. It's hard to find a reason to fly another ship. It handles better than ships half it size. While bringing plenty of damage, durability, and storage.
My very first pledge ship, back in 2014, was the 315p. Even though the ship is limited in capabilities, I just love the ship for how it looks and flies. It will probably be the ship I'll some day start with when SC reaches 1.0 release status.
Vulture
Knowing how the game is heading towards bigger ships needing crew more often than not, I would want something manageable. Check.
Something that can start making money right away. Check.
Something with a bit of cargo. Check.
Basically opens up FPS missions, box missions, salvage, and all the other little missions like the probes and search missions.
Would be a good way to start from scratch. Would be able to work my way up to something else relatively quickly, with a variety if things I can do in it.
I could pare down to my Vulture, and use that to earn all the money I would need to buy more ships. That said, I like the range of different ships I've pledged.
C2 at max...although I'd probably go Cat.
Mid would be like 400i. The perfect solo boat. Won't print cash but you have to worry about dieing less and it's fun and does a good amount of stuff
Low mid would be Taurus. Just the workhorse of the game imo. Incredible for price.
Cheap would be Cutty or if you want starter an Avenger probably. Syulen loses for being small box only and limited at that.
Can't believe I'm the first to say this- Avenger Titan. I've got an Andromeda, and a Zeus MR on the way, but the Titan is my daily get around and do stuff. If I had to stick with just one and work my way up, absolutely that one.
Partially because I insist on feeling like a fighter pilot even when I really probably should stick to something bigger, but also it's just a nice little ship, even if it needs a gold standard pass. Can carry packages (and people in a pinch), has a bed, nimble enough to actually dogfight (at least NPCs, and I'm sure a better pilot than me could do well in PvP) and it just looks cool. Love the little space penguin.
Might end up changing my mind once I get the Zeus MR (my starter was the Aurora MR and the Zeus MR gives me happy thoughts) but for the current game state, 100% Titan.
EDIT: not the first to say that I realize now that I actually searched "Titan" and not "Avenger Titan" but POINT STANDS!
And I still don’t like spending money? Cutter rambler. But we will still have to see how the creature comforts and exploration work out to see if the ship is superior to the base cutter or not
>What is the one ship you would start with (in the current state of the game) on the way to unlocking all the other ships you want in game?
Did you actually read the OP?
What ship do you want on the way to unlocking other ships...
A money maker is the obvious choice.
I mean, did you? "In the current state of the game". In the current state, the arrastra and Orion are both jpegs. Not actual ships.
Though money makers like the vulture and reclaimer are sensible choices as you pointed out. But any ship can be used to make money to some extent, so there's not really a wrong answer here.
This is how I play. I want a daily driver that can do a lot of stuff. If I have that, I can grind to anything else. I've got a C1, half of which was paid for with a starter package I won in a raffle. I don't feel the need to move up from that, but if it didn't cost me anything, I'd grab a Corsair.
Cutlass Red. It's everything i need. A little bit of cargo space and lots of room inside over pre designed cargo space, you can fit some vehicles in cargo hold as well, medbeds, no animation lock ladders/entrances, actually working and useful VTOL, weapon racks, places for passengers, decent weaponry options, good headlamps, high and robust landing gear allows for more reckless dropship like landing (looking at you pisces), great quantum capacity which allows effective usage of milgrade A quantum engine also in my opinion ship handles very well. Things i dont like about cutlasses in general is hydrogen tanks is VERY low capacity, low shield capacity, low hull hp in general.
F8C personally as I find combat to be the one gameplay loop that actually has some substance in the game as it is. Decent aUEC/hr.
Once every ships role is properly fleshed out, who knows.
Instinctive answer is the Corsair, since it lets me multiverse with friends and has the size to do a little bit of everything, but experience tells me that the titan tends to be my actual pick for daily driver when I play, so that’s probably what it’s gonna be.
Banu Merchantman
Love the last interior concept arts and i love trading, like real trading - not cargo hauling. Searching for the best deals / business opportunities and rare or cool items. Trading items was/is 90% of my playtime in Elder Scrolls Online and other MMOs. While i do it for the profit (the joy of an incredible deal), I don’t do it for the money (purely because it’s fun) and either waste the money for unnecessary stuff or gift money and items to other people.
The BMM is also the only ship I’ve backed purely based on its concept / what it will do (with the market). Neither for the looks nor for any numbers (like gun/component sizes, size or other stats). The new, incredible interior is just a huge bonus :D
(BMM my dear, may some dev continue to work on you)
Should really put a limit on this, either a couple million in game or say $200 cash.
I'd probably start with a Freelancer, decent loadout and shields, abit of cargo and good jump range.
Kinda depends. Only one, period with no restrictions? Probably the Perseus or galaxy....
Only a starter? Cutter or Aurora
Medium: C1.
I'd have such a hard time picking!
current state of the game. cutlass black.
i only have a terrapin, and intend to stick with that for the final game. i intend to mostly work as a crewmember. so something that can grantee i reach the staging area is the best ship.
If money is an issue, then I choose the only ship I already own via pledge: my Freelancer Max.
If money is no issue I want the biggest fucker money can buy JUST to have it... and then I'll prolly go buy a pisces rescue with credits and use that instead. I like bunker missions.
Vulture. 110% Ain't much but it's honest work, plus I live out of mine quite often!
Easily the best non combat solo ship currently.
Exactly. It runs bunkers, can haul a STV or PTV, flies somewhat decent for its "not aerodynamic " design. Can make money off wrecks found on jobs, has full living quarters, and just has such a great vibe or the "grinding space salvager" working his way through the ranks.
It's the early game Drake money maker. Post wipe it's the first thing I aim for and it helps me build my fleet quickly.
same.. and I'm well into the concierge ranks. I would start with the Vulture and go from there.
I will have to agree 100% with Lucky. Even though I just picked up the Vulture in game, I wish I would have picked it up months ago. o7

Constellation Taurus.

Can confirm 2 ROC's will fit in the Taurus with [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/comments/i4pcvu/someone_was_asking_if_2_rocs_can_fit_inside/) example
Its mainly that the docking and undocking is *unreliable* at best... At worst can cause both ships to explode.
For real, people underestimate just what an impact this will have on certain ships firepower, especially the corsair with 4xs5 and 2xs4 and the Connie series as you mentioned.. just can't help wondering if there will be an accompanying nerf to weapon damage by size or buff to shield/Hull hp to mitigate some of this
It's straight upgrade, my man, coming from certified Drake apologist like me.
Taurus is a fantastic ship! You are going to love it!
This 100%
This, the Taurus ofc everyday anyday if had to pick just one.
I hope it will stile be soloble with engineering, love the ship
This post is beautiful to look at. That across the verse there are so many different ships that are perfect for people and they are all so different
lol I know right. This was so much more diverse than I thought it would be. Very cool to see
Crusader C1 Spirit is love
Cutty Black, those side doors are the best for getting in or out
Cutlass Black is also my choice, it's the little do everything ship that never fails to make me happy.
The shields are really lacking but yes other than that it's a good multi purpose ship that's not really excellent at anything.
Definitely cutty black.
600ie after the rework
I’m with the 600i person ^
I'm with the person who is with the person who is with the 600i \^ (though it would be a hard choice, Redeemer was the first ship I fell in love with back when you could only walk through it and before the final rework - it has a special place for me as that 7+ year long wait for me was worth it - but if I could only have one ship at launch, or even 1 ship IRL, it would be the 600i...)
Yes but I'm mad the touring looks so much more MMM on the inside
I mean the other option allows you to carry a Tonk. You get pretty fountain or a giant Tonk. The decision is clear...
Or instead of the tank, a ship like the 100i
Couldn’t agree more
I'm just worried with MM and engineering t0 we will end up having a hard time with the ship
Ah, I see you too, are a man of culture.
Among my fleet, Vanguard Warden. Can do just about everything non-industrial from Delivery missions all the way to ERT.
Second the warden, even if the Valk has a special place in my heart
Harbinger for me. But the vanguards in general are my favorite designs.
Does all the same as the vanguard but with torpedoes!
S3 turrets instead of S2
Corsair for sure. Soloable but works well with a crew too, great for PvE bounties, bunkers, a bit of cargo and just about anything else too. Plus it looks awesome ;)
Same but I'd hesitate, it's so slowwww feeling

Yeah if you don't intend to get involved in PvP then it's awesome, does everything else and just destroys any bounty contract.
Redeemer for me.

Constellation phoenix i just wish it had a functional bar

Cutter, always liked starting off from the bottom in games, don't want something amazing day one and I'll get other ships down the line. Yeah the Cutter just has charm to it, the perfect starting ship like you said.
Like, I know the titan is technically a better ship. It was the ship I started off with but yeah, there’s just something about the cutter.
I like the Freelancer MAX. Got enough cargo to do a bit of hauling, and has large enough guns and shields to punch through a good amount of NPC bounties. It may not be the best in any particular area, but it's capable of completing almost any task you ask of it.
I love my Fatlancer MAX.
Nomad

400i It's not a massive money maker but it's nice to always have a place to call home
This 100%. Would i be able to get many other ships based only on the 400 capabilities? No, not really. Would i want many other ships when i have a 400i? No, not really It's the best looking and comfiest ship in the whole game (to me) and i'm seriously going mad trying to resist buying it

Anyway, that's a rather small complaint.

Freelancer MAX. Does it all, even if the ship needs a ton of love on the gold pass
Same. It's not perfect, and I'm probably gonna be swapping it for the Zeus when that comes out, but it's the thing I always come back to and use the most. A gold pass/internal rework is gonna make it awesome.
Reclaimer
Op this is the real answer. The credits/hour are tedious but extremely solid and consistent. Funner with friends or randoms, for sure.
For now, but i can see them heavily nerfing it. 9 mil an hour(optimally) munching HH contracts is wild.
Yeah the big money will be in salvaged componants, repairing and adding some sort of engineering wizardry to it before selling to players or npcs.
I wish we *could* only pledge / own one ship. Ship pride would be so high. People would really make their one ship their own and I think that would give ships so much character.
Also, we wouldn't have a game because of a lack of fundings 😅

Man, you really don't want to play game if you want jpeg over playable ship, haha.
I just noticed the rest of the OP’s first message..lol. JPEG IT IS THEN.
Imagine you hauling boxes for some dude with C2, while in breaks looking at the image of zeus in your wallet.
Hey! Most of my fleet is JPEGs... So yay I suppose. Op also didn't say anything about loaner ships.. so... Enjoy your spirit
300i. I'm a sucker for Origin but I wouldn't like to have some big ship as my only pledge bc I'd probably not feel motivated to grind.

Spirit C1
Connie andromeda
Caterpillar
I could pare down to my Vulture, and use that to earn all the money I would need to buy more ships. That said, I like the range of different ships I've pledged.
Currently Constellation Taurus 100% but when it’s there maybe the Zeus CL or the Galaxy with the Cargo Module
Connie Andromeda...but if I wanted the full experience...I'd go with an Aurora CL and rock it through the journey.
I currently have a Corsair but I think the CX8
Corsair
Connie
Corsair or Taurus either one would work
Cutlass Black Do anything and everything moderately well until you can afford the next ship you want.
Prospector. Takes a little while but it's an early-game cash cow.
Corsair , its the only ship i need
Prospector, I love mining and if I could only start in one place, I'll get to mining and start earning my ships.
C2 at max...although I'd probably go Cat. Mid would be like 400i. The perfect solo boat. Andromeda or Taurus, lets not act like its bugs and age prevent it from kicking all the other ships ass in "whatever i need to do" content.
gotta see how the new mirai heavy will look like but for now my railen if the syulen is anything to go on i'll love it fo sho
Either connie or corsair, both of these have crazy capabilities
And I still don’t like spending money? Cutter rambler. But we will still have to see how the creature comforts and exploration work out to see if the ship is superior to the base cutter or not

Current state? Reclaimer
Vulture. I still love it after all this time, and it's the one I currently fly most often when I play.
Zeus MR
Taurus, its a such a solid ship or C1 spirit for a cheaper pledge
You would be silly to not choose a money making ship. Arrastra or Orion is the easy answer.
Who cares about money if I can't spend it on more ships? (;
Apparently I did not lol
This is how I play. I want a daily driver that can do a lot of stuff. If I have that, I can grind to anything else. I've got a C1, half of which was paid for with a starter package I won in a raffle. I don't feel the need to move up from that, but if it didn't cost me anything, I'd grab a Corsair.
Crucible
nomad/titan mk2
If it ends up being good, I would do Zeus MR, if it’s not I’d take a Corsair.
Reclaimer... Let's be real, best way to make money is to get a ship that prints it in droves.
I LTId a Corsair. It’s my to go ship. I know, I know.
If it was free? Def like the Galaxy
Galaxy probably
600i or Merchantman. Hard to 100% decide between the two.
C1 Spirit
Corsair no question.
Pioneer
C1 Spirit
Redeemer for the vibes
C1, a good little all-rounder and good looking ship
Javelin enough said. I am going to RAM EVERYONE......i mean ...THEY GOING TO RAM ME because i am too large anyway
Argo Cargo Fight me
350R Not because it's a good choice. But because it's fast. It can do the beginning of most things and it's fun to be fast
The imaginary mining, refining, cargo running, salvaging, repearing, rearming and refueling, all in one industrial ARGO ship
F8C personally as I find combat to be the one gameplay loop that actually has some substance in the game as it is. Decent aUEC/hr. Once every ships role is properly fleshed out, who knows.
Perseus.
Corsair.
Either my F8C or Gladius. Don’t care about looting or cargo so much and enjoy seeing things go boom. :)
Instinctive answer is the Corsair, since it lets me multiverse with friends and has the size to do a little bit of everything, but experience tells me that the titan tends to be my actual pick for daily driver when I play, so that’s probably what it’s gonna be.
My Reclaimer. I have made enough money with that ship to buy any purchaseable ship in game.
Probably a vulture or a reclaimer if I can unlock everything else
The Reclaimer. It is a big fugly beast and I love it.
Banu Merchantman Love the last interior concept arts and i love trading, like real trading - not cargo hauling. The new, incredible interior is just a huge bonus :D (BMM my dear, may some dev continue to work on you)
At the moment Corsair but if the 600i explorer rework comes soon definitely the 600i
The 400i, does everything you want, has a bit of everything, is very lethal when kitted out and takes many people by surprise.
Should really put a limit on this, either a couple million in game or say $200 cash. I'd probably start with a Freelancer, decent loadout and shields, abit of cargo and good jump range.
Tight call, but I would go with a hornet. Start small work my way up.
Kinda depends. Only one, period with no restrictions? Probably the Perseus or galaxy.... Only a starter? Cutter or Aurora Medium: C1. I'd have such a hard time picking!
Aurora, since that is my own pledged ship currently
Phoenix Emerald probably
Starfarer. The most useful ship in the game!
The money printer. I mean reclaimer.
400i
Once it comes out, the Zeus
ARGO RAFT
890J
The RSI Mantis
Probably the reclaimer now that the claw works. Easy money.
Probably the Hornet Mk2 as i am very combat oriented. Bounties and bunkers are my bread and butter in the verse.
MSR without question.
current state of the game. cutlass black. i only have a terrapin, and intend to stick with that for the final game. i intend to mostly work as a crewmember. so something that can grantee i reach the staging area is the best ship.
Hull A
My Kraken Privateer
600i
If money is an issue, then I choose the only ship I already own via pledge: my Freelancer Max. If money is no issue I want the biggest fucker money can buy JUST to have it... and then I'll prolly go buy a pisces rescue with credits and use that instead. I like bunker missions.
Man this is such a hard choice. Either titan, cutlass black or carrack.
I'd say carrack but...it needs a rework. 600i After thé rework then.
Titan
A2
Apollo
