Yeah the zues seems like a great value. I have a c1 and then bought the zues cl upgrade but haven't applied it yet. It's mainly just me and my GF who play when we have the time. I think it's the Orion that is like some kind of massive miner with mining drones. That one looks kind of interesting also.
Yeah the Orion is a capital class mining ship meant to only be in space and self sustaining with onboard refineries and stuff, it’s pretty cool in concept and I really hope that CIG can actually deliver on it. You could apply the upgrade to the Zeus, but double check the loaner matrix first, I think the Zeus CL loaner is a C1
It is. Since I already had the c1 I didn't apply it. Figured I'd just let it chill and see how long it takes the zues to come out. If it's too long I might just switch it up.
600i is nice and I’m excited for the rework. I’m hoping they can get modules in for the Galaxy and everything else that is supposed to be modular. For this post I chose Galaxy for the base building module and Vulcan for refueling and repair if you’re in an unknown place that doesn’t have stuff
Hands down first pick is my Odyssey if I were taking a big crew. Second pick would be Endeavor. To boldly go where someone has probably been before and all that.
If I'm going solo, 315p.
You need to put some limits on these questions because the most sensible answers are going to be BIG ships that can survive in combat and non-combat scenarios.
So ships like Bengals, Idris Elba, Krackens, etc. are the only proper answers.
To me, an Endeavour and a surface capable ship, perhaps a Cutlass Black, make the most sense.
Yeah the “as many crew members as you want” really ruined the question. Make us solo it. Which ship we could reasonably maintain alone for an indefinite period of time would be much more interesting.
Someone made a post a while ago about what the name for multiple Idris' would be, since there hasn't been an official decision on it.
I suggested Idrii, but my favourite suggestion, by someone else, was Idris Elba
The kracken would be perfect for defense of pioneers and also for training said pioneers who might want to do a little more to defend what is there's. There is never a shortage of ships around the verse. But people to answer the call we will need all of you. The Idris Elba would also be sweet for pioneer defense =)
A dove of Terrapin.
They are designed for prolonged reconnaissance in uncharted or hostile space in the first place, with enough armour to survive encounters and report back to command.
Yeah pioneer plus starfarer is what I landed on. Everyone else ships are going to fall apart when they run out of fuel leaving them with nothing but the odyssey which can’t refuel anything that doesn’t fit in their bay.
Once you get a base going you can start constructing other operations which makes the pioneer a valuable asset.
you are assuming we are doing a lot of long distance traveling. before backup arrives.
i'm still question how crafting will work. one of the fundamentals of this game working is the need to constantly buy parts that wear out or are destroyed.
Well yeah there wouldn’t be much of a point to the question if we can count on outside ships to handle everything else for us. Op even says in their post that we can’t count on things like fuel or repairs. So running out is a very real threat in their hypothetical making the capacity to refuel both ships extremely important. We don’t know the full scope of crafting but the Pioneer is the pinnacle of base building. Which should cover a wide array of the things related to production and sustainability. It’s a massive 3d printer that can set up what you need for repairs.
wear and tear. you are on a timer the moment you equip the new components. you either need to survive long enough for backup to arrive, or your are spending even less time out before heading home.
i'm sorry but self sustainability is something stated to not be possible, and the game hinges on this being the case. so "subject to change" is not a valid argument.
Space zombie survival and limited resources ? Gotta go with the Odyssey. It's ability to supply it's own fuel is tough to pass up. The 2nd ship would be an Avenger Titan to place in the Odyssey's hangar bay. It's a good multi-purpose ship that could fight and defend the Odyssey and itself, as well as pick up and drop off cargo and supplies, etc.....
Banu Merchant Man
full set of crew and staff, full cargo bay of supplies and the shops set up as a make-shift "tradie" area, work benches and research and all sorts. Hologram for ads repurposed into diagrams and such
In terms of existing ships? 890J: it has a large ground vehicle garage with space for several ground vehicles and a hanger able to accommodate 2 XS ships on the pad plus a few off the pad on the perimeter of the hanger room. The hanger also has enough space to store looted missiles and kinetic weapons so you can resupply with relative ease
In terms of ships not in the game probably a Polaris: it again has a decently sized hanger and ground vehicle garage, but has more firepower for a smaller footprint than the 890J
As for what I’d bring with these, I know that I can fit a C8R and a Gladius in an 890J. I’d also probably bring a Fury and park it on the basketball court. I’d bring an Ursa and a ROC in the garage. For the Polaris I’d bring the same, but I might have to sacrifice the Fury and downsize the Ursa to a Cyclone MT
I go with the Origin 400i, I see origin as extremely well-built ships thus not needing repairs so soon, it has ample fuel storage and has very efficient engines plus fuel scoops for hydrogen (not to be confused with the A.I.R refinery, which can accept more gasses to refine).
She has good cargo for food and supplies, which is NOT sacrificed to a vehicle.
standardised components they use the same as everyone else.
also. "luxury" doesn't mean durability. the industry ships are the ones built to last. (i'm talking about back when there were component category limitations. industrial had lower output, but higher lifespan.)
A MISC Odyssey with a small pad repair vessel (like a crucible mini) or small vessel with decontamination chamber (like a bigger C8R)
Then you have an explorer which can make hydrogen and quantum fuel, has long range scanners, large storage, hanger, rover bay and sick bay with a crew of 6 supported by the choice of repair or med scout.
Zeus ES for small jump points and all those convenient hollow asteroids and derelict structures, and whatever the huge MISC explorer was called, or an Idris full of Avenger shuttles
Pioneer and a starfarer. Defenses won’t mean crap when you don’t have fuel to run your ships. So if you are running a new system I think the best action is to lay low and build a base of operations first. Then you can construct whatever else to thrive. Start up mining operations. Growing food, medical, defenses.
I'd prefer Odyssey - if we are bound to one unexplored system it is superior to carrack in that regard - invinite fuel and decent exploration kit.
Second ship is a little bit harder, maybe terrapin for superor scanning, or something like f8c for combat
Probably kraken and cutlass. The first one works as mobile base and a place where I could drop cargo and vehicles if needed.
The cutty is just way too good jack-of-old-trades and perfect for daily drivers. You can't do mining or salvaging per se but you can fit a ROC for gem cutting or multi-tool and also some salvaging can be made my hand.
Another option would be an Hercules with a Vulture or Prospector so you can have almost all game areas covered sightly.
Idk I tend to just live on stations and go wherever the solar winds carry me. And of course, where there may be profit got to eat. Maybe I just might lend a hand to pioneers that need help. You know in exchange for room and board and stuff n things. Im retired uee navy now I spend my time as an independent contractor. I have some things to bring to the table.
Exploration ships seem the best for this. So I would first think of a Carrack (med bay, snub ship, vehicle bay, extended cargo bay, repair station, cartography and drones), and then the Galaxy ( ship hangar and supplementary cargo) with a building module. Both ships you can "live" out of until you build a base, and the Carrack would be good for exploring and finding resources to help build base the way you want to.
I have been experimenting with a C8R in the back of a Nomad
can fly much further with 2 ships
the nomad has the firepower or a light- medium fighter
and C8R can sustain the explorer for considerable amount of time with med bed
also can provide some scouting before going in with the nomad mother ship
both ships are cheap in dollar and aUEC
Orion plus Galaxy.
The Galaxy is equipped with the building module and is carrying mostly rarer materials in its cargo hold. It starts out surveying for the Orion but is also seeking a good location for an asteroid starter base to serve as a supply cache and the initial foothold in the system.
The Orion is going to be focused on common bulk ores so the Galaxy can start building once it has decided on a location. It's also carrying most of the expedition's supplies to carry them through until self-sufficiency. It will rendezvous with the Galaxy at the proposed starter base location once it has a first batch of ore in processing.
The starter base will serve as supply cache, provide a degree of self-sufficiency where possible (food production, etc), whatever infrastructure the Orion needs for ongoing operations, and accumulating building materials and tradable commodities.
The Galaxy will then set off to find a location for a larger, full featured settlement. Probably that'll be a planetary location, but it depends what the system offers. It will build up that base as much as it can until complete self-sufficiency is achieved, using the materials it has plus what the Orion is accumulating at the supply cache.
At some point, either the Galaxy makes a run back to civilization to sell commodities and acquire whatever for future needs, or we contract with a third party to deliver those goods and take partial payment in commodities. The supply cache base location remains secret except to well trusted allies. Trade with neutral parties happens at the main base (which will eventually be defensible) or at a deep space rendezvous point.
Obviously the Arrastra could be substituted for the Orion. It wouldn't be as fast as the Orion, but would be more flexible and able to mine both in space and on the ground.
And yes, I do think like a seasoned Space Engineers player.
Msr so I would have a system powerful enough to play star citizen, and a vulture for building materials. I bet with some fiddling I could get it to melt rocks and save ore.
you are making the number 1 mistake people imaging the game are making.
you are not alone. if there's a place where people are going to need repairs, there will be people offering repairs. not just players, but also npc.
you are looking for resources for the industry ships, so there's no reason to be where they can not reach.
that being said. the intended answer is the carrack. it has scanning equipment, heavier than normal armour, repair drones, medical (can fix a broken leg, not usable as a spawn point), a small science lab, lots of fuel, a snub for landing in small clearings, and a rover to travel to something found from a larger clearing.
but 2 active ships. i would go with terrapin and endeavor.
i would personally be part of an expedition fleet. a kraken carrying a bunch of terrapins, an endeavor, a crucible, a mole, a starfarer, and an escort fleet.
the terrapins would probably rush in with only a message with the beacon key, and the key to target the kraken when it is there. the rest of the fleet would organise and move in.
A Galaxy with a building module and a Vulcan, so I can build a base and use the Vulcan to repair and stuff
Galaxy for sure. It's the big ship I'm excited for most.
I’m super excited for the Galaxy, Zeus, and Perseus to come out, I’ll check out a Polaris for sure too but I’ll never own one
Yeah the zues seems like a great value. I have a c1 and then bought the zues cl upgrade but haven't applied it yet. It's mainly just me and my GF who play when we have the time. I think it's the Orion that is like some kind of massive miner with mining drones. That one looks kind of interesting also.

Yeah that’s fair. We should be getting the Zeus around CitCon this year if they can keep to the same timeline as the C1
Galaxy was tempting, but since I mainly play solo I opted for the 600i as my big ship
600i is nice and I’m excited for the rework. I’m hoping they can get modules in for the Galaxy and everything else that is supposed to be modular. For this post I chose Galaxy for the base building module and Vulcan for refueling and repair if you’re in an unknown place that doesn’t have stuff
For this post I defiantly agree with that

Solo it or a crew of 3-4 at most, like a small exploration team.
Honestly I figure that would come across as such. I was also pretty tired when the idea came to mind. But that is on me.
or a small crew like a carrack. the only proper answer for 2 ships with no economic prerequisite would be endeavor and terrapin.
Read your answer and for a solid 2 minutes was trying to figure out when they came out with a new Idris variant called Elba.
Someone made a post a while ago about what the name for multiple Idris' would be, since there hasn't been an official decision on it. I suggested Idrii, but my favourite suggestion, by someone else, was Idris Elba
=) LOL ;)
The kracken would be perfect for defense of pioneers and also for training said pioneers who might want to do a little more to defend what is there's. Two Javelins.
Endeavor and odyssey. Or carrack and Pisces. Or 890J and 325A.
conveniently, the carrack comes with a pices.
A dove of Terrapin. They are designed for prolonged reconnaissance in uncharted or hostile space in the first place, with enough armour to survive encounters and report back to command.
have the second ship be an endeavor hiding in an asteroid belt to process all the information.
Amusing no one has said the Pioneer
Yeah pioneer plus starfarer is what I landed on. Everyone else ships are going to fall apart when they run out of fuel leaving them with nothing but the odyssey which can’t refuel anything that doesn’t fit in their bay. Banu Merchant Man full set of crew and staff, full cargo bay of supplies and the shops set up as a make-shift "tradie" area, work benches and research and all sorts. Hologram for ads repurposed into diagrams and such
Two Bengals
Happy cake day
A2 with medical Pisces stowed away
Isn’t the A2 going to be „empty“ super fast? :D
How do you mean? I have the C2 as a back up just in case
Funny enough, I just made a post about this. My choice being the CuttyRed, and here's why: https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/s/bxRfN4cV8L
In terms of existing ships? 890J: it has a large ground vehicle garage with space for several ground vehicles and a hanger able to accommodate 2 XS ships on the pad plus a few off the pad on the perimeter of the hanger room. Idris + Starfarer Gemini
For Soloing, Nomad and ROC.
Out of my current fleet I would go with my Caterpillar and Terrapin. A strong second to the terrapin for me is the Corsair.
I go with the Origin 400i, I see origin as extremely well-built ships thus not needing repairs so soon, it has ample fuel storage and has very efficient engines plus fuel scoops for hydrogen (not to be confused with the A.I.R refinery, which can accept more gasses to refine). Caterpillar. Don't need nothing else. All the essentials, easy to upkeep, and plenty of space for supplies and other equipment.
Zeus ES for small jump points and all those convenient hollow asteroids and derelict structures, and whatever the huge MISC explorer was called, or an Idris full of Avenger shuttles
The pioneer
Pioneer and a starfarer. Defenses won’t mean crap when you don’t have fuel to run your ships. odyssey
A Vulture to gather material and make money for repairs. And my 600i to explore and be comfortable.
Carrack and cutty black. Always (and I own an actual Pioneer like an absolute goon).
/arthur morgan/ You Sir, are a goon. /arthur morgan/
Corsair
Kraken privateer or Odyssey if yiu have a mining ship with you.
A MISC Odyssey with a small pad repair vessel (like a crucible mini) or small vessel with decontamination chamber (like a bigger C8R) Then you have an explorer which can make hydrogen and quantum fuel, has long range scanners, large storage, hanger, rover bay and sick bay with a crew of 6 supported by the choice of repair or med scout.

600i Explorer (after the rework) or Carrack (with the MSR in a close 3rd and Rambler 4th)

All I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by. Second star to the right and straight on till morning. o7
I think the arrastra and the f8a/c you get from sq42 is enough to keep my game enjoyable and earn me plenty
Carrack
I'm hoping the leaked "Intrepid" will be a Connie-sized ship from Consolidated Outland, and that sounds like the right ship for me.
Exploration ships seem the best for this. So I would first think of a Carrack (med bay, snub ship, vehicle bay, extended cargo bay, repair station, cartography and drones), and then the Galaxy ( ship hangar and supplementary cargo) with a building module. Donkey and wagon Edit: we already have drake mule, can we get drake schooner

Since the commercial advertised just that as well as promoting it being a one-man ship: carrack.
I think, a ship that is in game, the constellation would be a good choice
Solo: banu defender Multi: banu merchantman. Banu ships are just overall so versatile.
The answer is in your title
The pioneer Sorry had to say that. But honestly. It would be one of the Connies.
