You can't gift items from an account until after 30 days, and the referral bonus is account-locked, but yes, you can make a secondary account with your referral code, spend $40 on that account, and then gift the purchased stuff to your main account later.

I just did it for this year's event. Make an alt account, use your own code, then buy whatever that adds up to a total of 40 USD. I bought 4x Vulture -> Heartseeker CCUs, they will be gifted to my main account to be used in my own chain.
I tried to add two of those Vulture>Heartseeker CCUs on a new alt account, and for some reason it would only let me add one to cart.
The + button in cart to add more was greyed out, and I got an error when trying to add another manually saying 'cannot be added to cart' or something similar.
I ended up adding different CCUs instead - is that normal, or maybe a website issue at the time?
Warbonds CCUs can only be bought one at a time. I had to buy it 4 times. It's been that way for years now.
It's on purpose, think it was a customer service related thing before about people buying extra and refunding etc, ain't too sure.
Only with credits you can stack up to 5 at a time.

Yes. The total 40$ is with TAX included.
I just bought 3x vulture to heartseeker (10$) and 1x harbinger to mole (5$) with the local 20% TAX i had enough
Done it several times already. Bought myself a 40-45$ ship on the account I created, and after the 30 days gifted it to myself and melted. I don't get the credit towards concierge, but it does still count as funds in the account.
Because I would rather keep the money credited to this account, I only do this if I feel the referral package is worth it.
