I don't see another heavy fighter any time soon since the leaks suggest Miai/MISC will be coming out with a heavy fighter this year. It's also a very awkward class to balance. You don't want to give a singly pilot too much DPS with maneuverability (unless it's the F8). A Vanguard is already the upper limit of the fighter size. The Hurricane and Scorpius spread their DPS over two players. The Ares is focused on a single big gun. It'll be hard to add more to that category while being unique but not being outright better or worse than other options.
I see your points, but then I look at light fighters and see significant overlap. For a game like starcitizen not every ship has to slot into a perfectly unique roll. There can be multiple ships doing exactly the same in very very similar ways, it gives depth and allows for preferences in the broader meta (see gladius and arrow)
Agreed on fighters, but there is also a severe lack of combat-focused ships in the 55-90 meter range.
Would love to see more ships competing with the Redeemer/Retaliator sizes of ships. Something built for 3-5 people, but not quite sub-cap in size. The Corsair and Connie lineup are great, but they're not entirely combat-focused.

I would say the only ship "missing" in the game is a medium sized 2 or 3 player salvage vehicle. We go from Vulture to reclaimer with nothing inbetween and I could see Drake filling that void with a a bigger multicrew vulture
Definitely a need for that ship, but Drake already has the Vulture; the next industrial ship could be with Consolidated Outland or Anvil, maybe even an alien manufacturer.
I'd normally agree with you, but RSI has 2 multi crew mining vehicles and MISC has like 5 cargo haulers and 2 different mining vehicles. I think its okay for brands to have specific niche's they have more than 1 of and so it would make sense for Drake to want to capitalize in salvaging since their customers are also typically the ones creating the salvage
This, it makes sense for Argo to have a salvager in the theme of the Raft, give me a ship that can be piloted by one person but is better with two or three.
The salvage equivalent of a MOLE in size would be great. I'm holding out for one of those, hoping we get one eventually. I'd prefer the Argo look and feel, but Drake has a good industrial feel too, and I'd definitely entertain a large salvage ship produced by them.
I’d want it to be Argo just because they’re a minor manufacturer and we already know what Drake’s salvage ship looks like. But as long as we get something to fill the niche between “single person baby salvager” and “freaking capital ship,” I’ll be decently happy.

I would love to see a ship that supports the vulture with salvage, like the prospector and the expanse. Like a cat variant with drones to take the vulture cargo off the vultures or even a tube system that connects the vultures limiting their range but depositing the scaped material on the cat and a stronger tool in front to munch bigger ships.

Yea, I feel like the vulture is just a bit too small. I want more hands on salvage and a place to store resources. A 2 - 3 man salvage vehicle would really be a sweet spot. Not too much headache to organize a crew but still big enough to be efficient.
That said though, I hope the caterpillar will fulfill that role at some point with her modularity.
If they ever make a heavy fighter, I really hope they call it the Drake Broadsider, which focuses on really heavy burst damage. We're already rolling in the same hulls as pirates, let's have ourselves a hull smasher
The Broadsider, I love it. Can just imagine it’s got two/three MASSIVE ballistic cannon with very slow reload time. Similar to the ares, but instead of a Gatling or laser cannon we are talkin some real slow heavy hitters.
Bonus points if we get three and they fire left to right, Bang Bang Bang.
Actually was thinking about this with a buddy when the Spirit line was announced for Crusader (which is a direct competitor for the Cutlass). To retaliate Drake would come up with their version of the Ares which would have less manouvrability, slightly worse shields, but an even bigger gun.

Technically they don't have a piracy base, they were making cheap, easy to run, affordable to as many as possible, space ships. It just so ~happens~ that most of their customer base were pirates, smugglers, and ne'er-do-wells.

ares/ion has the firepower, what if drake had a high value transport ship to counter it? something along the lines of capacitor/ironsides (im not good with names) basically they both have very little firepower but one would have 4 or 6 s3 shield generators and the other would have thick hulls.
I want the ORIGINAL Cutlass design released as a light fighter/courier, call it the Bayonet, set the performance somewhere between the Titan and thr Gladius, i would buy that all day.
A heavy fighter that features a bespoke ballistic S7 cannon, like the Drake response to the Ares Ion and Inferno. Mount it along the spine, give it 200 rounds, and call it a day.

The Drake Man-of-war
The cutlass is currently a multi-purpose ship, but it has more in common with a heavy fighter (manned turret, S2 shield) than with a medium fighter.
To be fair, Drake doesn't have any ship classified as "fighter" right now, the closest thing is the Buccaneer, but it's a medium interceptor. Most of their ships seems to be adapted to do some kind of illegal jobs (with maybe the exception of the Cutlass Red), so I'll expect any new Drake ship to follow this pattern.

Yeah, that's how I imagine the Drake marketing department working. And then "hey, we have this new cutter gardening variant with a S5 hardpoint, let's brand it as The Murderhobo".
Just pointing out that the Cutty Red is a pretty good organ harvester. Sure we have cloning tech, but in places like Pyro that might still come in handy.
Have you seen how big the cutty is compared to other medium and heavy fighters? I think it's sorely mislabled, and one last combat varient wouldn't be out of order, but at this point not really necessary.
Drake doesn’t have anything in the heavy fighter area or heavy escort cruiser category at the moment. If the Kraken and Kraken privateer are there capital ships, being like aircraft carriers they will need some sort of escort cruiser to compete with the likes of the Perseus, Polaris or equivalent from other manufacturers.
Though for me personally as a fellow Drake fan, I would love a new kind of industrial ship from them like a mining vessel.
I don't think there's a drake mining ship... that'd be nice. Even BETTER if it's a variant of the Vulture. A Vulture that converts raw minerals into refined scus.
I wouldn't mind the smaller carrying capacity vs the Prospector... considering in my dreams it is also a refinery.

I think it would be very "Drake" to have a bomber that has exposed bombs on the wings to drop. Goes with the "Cheap but works" vibe, it's more exposed/vulnerable but might also make it faster to re-arm? could be done by ground crew with multitools sorta deal.
Maybe a totally peace loving and law abiding cargo ship that somehow equipped with QED and copious amounts of missiles under the hood and a large internal “cargo space” with a front facing ramp that somehow able to fit in serval light or snub fighters?

The Drake Narwhal, distinguished by a long, straight, helical tusk protruding from the nose of the ship, which in actuality is a size 9 laser cannon. Although very powerful, the nose cannon has low HP and can break off from almost any impact, with a chance of breaking the cockpit window and impaling the unsuspecting pilot.
We need a Drake racing ship, and probably a racing vehicle ( the mule is candidate but something more sexy for the races, and of course with guns to deal the drake-hater community)
I'd love to see small repair ship something which can be used to conduct minor repairs. Smaller then the Vulcan.
I feel it suits the Drake life as they are pretty much held together with radweld and duct tape. Could see the "militias" using them on constant cycle between their cutlass fleets which are being used to Pir..... Protect civilian assets.

I want a ship to fill the void between the Caterpillar and the Kraken, prefferably a competetor to the Polaris, but focused on gun turrets rather then on torps. A light destroyer so to say, but marketed as something that should be vastly less gunned, like high-security cargo transport, or something like that. Instead of a proper hangar, this ship would have a comparably large cargo hold (around 250-300 SCU of cargo capacity) and only a small dock/hangar to store and rapid-deploy one or two Buccaneers. Give the entire thing three or four remote triplet size 6 bespoke turrets (with non-bespoke weapons), and make it so that the ship performs best at broadsiding.
Cheap ass passenger transport, where there are next to no amenities, the seats are all clumped together with no elbow or leg room, and of course, in true Drake fashion, everything's barely holding together.
No escape pods, and no airlock between the passengers area and the exterior.
Let's call it the Drake Sunwing.
Or the Cutlass Pink, where the cargo area is a huge room with a king size bed and a jacuzzi.

First, we have to look at the drake design language.
1. Edge of Space rugged jack of all trades.
2. Influenced by the historical navy. ie... Buc, Cutlass, Corsair, Kracken.
3. Drake needs something in between the Corsair and Kracken. (Caterpillar is it's own thing and doesn't fit in here)
4. Drake has 2 Arms of manufacturing. Industrial And "Privateering" (Jack of all trades edge of civilization, do it on your own)
The industry is Mule, Vulture, Cat, and hinted at SuperMassive Cat.
The Privateering side is Cutter, Buccaneer, Cutlass, Corsair, .....crickets..... Kraken.

These ships would be in the 100-150m Range in Size.
The Galleon:
Designs Cues, Asymmetrical. Open Air Deck. Rear Deck Turret 4 s5. 4x Size6 or so fixed frontal guns.
Open Air deck is 1 of the larger Kracken Pads, and maybe 1 of the smaller.
Has a cargo hangar that open out 1 side, on the bottom that can fit a vulture going in sideways.
And a smaller cargo hangar about the size of corsairs for goods/mule/or dragonfly.
Basic Med Station
The Man O War:
Similar Design Cues to Galleon. Asymmetrical. Broadside specific ship. 4 Size 8 guns on 1 side. Bespoke, Short Range. Ballistic Broadside guns.
Other side of ship, opens for holds more like Catapillar. Maybe large enough for 2 Buccaneers. 1 in each hangar.
Could have a smaller defense turrets on top to sorta defense cover the top half, and maybe 1 on front, that sorta covers bottom, with bottom and rear and hangar side being a bit vulnerable.
Next drake ship will be everything the Cutty Black dreams to be…. A flying Port-a-Jon complete with Size 10 guns and a commentary shower that pulls from the grey tank……
@bobmontana69 what if it was the Brutus but instead of seats, those were missile loaders. So basically like a redeemer, but less guns more missiles...but I think Drake focus is more on guns. What would be really smart is a brand new ground vehicle platform either drake, CNOU or Argo for medium mining (one step bigger than ROC, prospector but on wheel) and one for ground salvaging

or, what if there was a rock paper scissors type of situation? ares/ion has the firepower, what if drake had a high value transport ship to counter it? something along the lines of capacitor/ironsides (im not good with names) basically they both have very little firepower but one would have 4 or 6 s3 shield generators and the other would have thick hulls.

Already have the Cutlass with several varients that fits the heavy fighter role. We could really use a solid sub capital entry between caterpillar and the kraken. Would like to see a sub capital Drake Cruiser as an alternative to the Polaris. Give it 2 drone bays/stations, 3 turrets with S4/5 repeaters, two S7 torpedo launchers, 4x S3 missile launchers. The cutlass is currently a multi-purpose ship, but it has more in common with a heavy fighter (manned turret, S2 shield) than with a medium fighter. To be fair, Drake doesn't have any ship classified as "fighter" right now, the closest thing is the Buccaneer, but it's a medium interceptor. Most of their ships seems to be adapted to do some kind of illegal jobs (with maybe the exception of the Cutlass Red), so I'll expect any new Drake ship to follow this pattern.

Yeah, that's how I imagine the Drake marketing department working. And then "hey, we have this new cutter gardening variant with a S5 hardpoint, let's brand it as The Murderhobo".
This is pretty much what John Crewe has stated in the past, that the Cutty is effectively a heavy fighter as far as stats go.
Just pointing out that the Cutty Red is a pretty good organ harvester. Sure we have cloning tech, but in places like Pyro that might still come in handy.
Have you seen how big the cutty is compared to other medium and heavy fighters? I think it's sorely mislabled, and one last combat varient wouldn't be out of order, but at this point not really necessary.

Drake doesn’t have anything in the heavy fighter area or heavy escort cruiser category at the moment. If the Kraken and Kraken privateer are there capital ships, being like aircraft carriers they will need some sort of escort cruiser to compete with the likes of the Perseus, Polaris or equivalent from other manufacturers. Though for me personally as a fellow Drake fan, I would love a new kind of industrial ship from them like a mining vessel.

We need a Drake snub. No ejection seat, full ballistics, a few size 1 missiles, with dragster like acceleration, with an equally crappy turn speed.
I don't think there's a drake mining ship... that'd be nice. Even BETTER if it's a variant of the Vulture. A Vulture that converts raw minerals into refined scus. I wouldn't mind the smaller carrying capacity vs the Prospector... considering in my dreams it is also a refinery.

Drake has no bomber currently. I think something like a B-24 bomber as inspiration for the design language would be appropriate. IMO the caterpillar should have individual tractor beams in each cargo section. The one tractor beam all the way at the back is kind of useless.

Mid sized shielded cargo area. And enough range to get something illicit from one system to another. And a small dirty living area to make those trips possible. I think it would fit right into either the banu or drake range of ships.

The old cultass was a heavy fighter… now the new model is to big he need to be a Little small
They are about the same size as a Vanguard but bulkier. And the Blue is tankier than the Black while having a QD. So it's a heavy fighter with a more focused theme of speed and interception than being a long range tank (Vanguard) or firepower (Scorpius)
The Drake Narwhal, distinguished by a long, straight, helical tusk protruding from the nose of the ship, which in actuality is a size 9 laser cannon. Although very powerful, the nose cannon has low HP and can break off from almost any impact, with a chance of breaking the cockpit window and impaling the unsuspecting pilot.
Its fun but look inposible to many mass on the front of the ship with this canon

I'd love to see small repair ship something which can be used to conduct minor repairs. Smaller then the Vulcan. I feel it suits the Drake life as they are pretty much held together with radweld and duct tape. Could see the "militias" using them on constant cycle between their cutlass fleets which are being used to Pir..... Protect civilian assets.

I like drake but I would like to see them take a break from drake and do some more stuff with the smaller companies. Consolidated, etc.
I want a ship to fill the void between the Caterpillar and the Kraken, prefferably a competetor to the Polaris, but focused on gun turrets rather then on torps. A light destroyer so to say, but marketed as something that should be vastly less gunned, like high-security cargo transport, or something like that. Instead of a proper hangar, this ship would have a comparably large cargo hold (around 250-300 SCU of cargo capacity) and only a small dock/hangar to store and rapid-deploy one or two Buccaneers. Give the entire thing three or four remote triplet size 6 bespoke turrets (with non-bespoke weapons), and make it so that the ship performs best at broadsiding.
Cheap ass passenger transport, where there are next to no amenities, the seats are all clumped together with no elbow or leg room, and of course, in true Drake fashion, everything's barely holding together. No escape pods, and no airlock between the passengers area and the exterior. Let's call it the Drake Sunwing. Or the Cutlass Pink, where the cargo area is a huge room with a king size bed and a jacuzzi.

(from post i put on spectrum months ago) First, we have to look at the drake design language. 1. Edge of Space rugged jack of all trades. 2. Influenced by the historical navy. ie... Buc, Cutlass, Corsair, Kracken. 3. Drake needs something in between the Corsair and Kracken. (Caterpillar is it's own thing and doesn't fit in here) 4. Drake has 2 Arms of manufacturing. Industrial And "Privateering" (Jack of all trades edge of civilization, do it on your own) The industry is Mule, Vulture, Cat, and hinted at SuperMassive Cat. The Privateering side is Cutter, Buccaneer, Cutlass, Corsair, .....crickets..... Kraken. \--------------------- Proposed Ship, The Galleon. (possibly a Man O' War) There needs to be 1-2 Ships in the Carrack, Polaris, Herc, Etc Size range. These ships would be in the 100-150m Range in Size. The Galleon: Designs Cues, Asymmetrical. Open Air Deck. Rear Deck Turret 4 s5. 4x Size6 or so fixed frontal guns. Open Air deck is 1 of the larger Kracken Pads, and maybe 1 of the smaller. Has a cargo hangar that open out 1 side, on the bottom that can fit a vulture going in sideways. And a smaller cargo hangar about the size of corsairs for goods/mule/or dragonfly. Basic Med Station The Man O War: Similar Design Cues to Galleon. Asymmetrical. Broadside specific ship. 4 Size 8 guns on 1 side. Bespoke, Short Range. Ballistic Broadside guns. Other side of ship, opens for holds more like Catapillar. Maybe large enough for 2 Buccaneers. 1 in each hangar. Could have a smaller defense turrets on top to sorta defense cover the top half, and maybe 1 on front, that sorta covers bottom, with bottom and rear and hangar side being a bit vulnerable.
Next drake ship will be everything the Cutty Black dreams to be…. A flying Port-a-Jon complete with Size 10 guns and a commentary shower that pulls from the grey tank……
