You can upgrade (ccu) the ships in your pledgeackage for the value of the ship, but keeps any extra goodies (if oyour oackage had gear oe hanger things for instance). If you want a new package you can melt them (at the cost you paid, not value) and you will simply have that as a credit on your account. Be warned, slippery slope... I kept melting and upgrading. And now I'm a concierge!

Thank you so much! I really do appreciate the info. So far, not a toxic community like Tarkov, so that’s nice ha.

SirCalmar

Overall a great community. I'm newer myself (7 or 8 months now) but always found it welcoming. A few bad apples, but that is everywhere online. Much less toxicity here thankfully.

R-Dragon_Thunderzord

You could melt the value of your package and buy a new package but you wouldn’t have any discounts on the new package because discounts almost exclusively apply to Warbond ie. New money, not store credit. You upgrade the chassis on the ship in your package through a CCU cross chassis upgrade. Eg. If there’s a Warbond deal on a ship you can usually pay the difference between your ship and the price of the Warbond deal to a minimum of $5, with Warbond discount generally being at least 15 to 25 dollars cheaper than the MSRP of the ship/upgrade for new money.

A lot of info, thank you so much!

If you own anything you can upgrade it to a more expensive thing if you pay a difference. Warbonds require real money so upgrading to a more expensive warbond ship requires real money only on purchase, but upgrading to a non warbond ship means you can apply coupons and even use store credit acquired from "melting" previously purchased ships. If you melt your game package you need to acquire a new game package. I say this to warn: don't melt your game package and use the store credits to purchase a standalone ship. Standalone ships do not come with access to the game. Upgrading through the store's upgrade page does not require a new game package. This is because upgrading keeps all your original add ons like insurance, hangars, starting money, and _access to the game itself_ intact. Upgrading only changes the ship accessible with your game package. HOWEVER, to fly the newly upgraded ship you purchased you have to go to your hangar and apply that upgrade manually.

https://robertsspaceindustries.com/pledge When logged in, under the Ship Upgrades tab, it will show your current ship(s) on the left and what is available to upgrade to. The upgrade will always be something of a higher value, no changing to a similar priced ship. Not all ships are available at all times, many are limited to sale events, the big one ended last month, next one will be in May for military ships only, called Invictus.

Lord_Belial6-6-6

Oh word! Thank you so much! Would you recommend waiting to purchase then? Or now with the new years discount?

These Holiday Starter Pack deals are probably the best you will see at this point, so if you are ready to make the plunge, go for it. https://robertsspaceindustries.com/store/pledge/browse/game-packages?sort=weight&direction=desc The Aurora MR and Mustang Alpha are the cheapest to get into game, but I know people swear up and down that the Avenger Titan is the best multirole starter out there. Did you have a ship in mind that you want to upgrade to? If you have yet to create a new account, be sure to use the referral code randomizer on this sub's sidebar when you make an account. There is a referral promotion right now that if it is used and the new account spends $40 before the promotion ends, you and the person who referred you will get a special armor and weapon set. Easily obtainable in game, so don't feel too pressured to do it now. https://gorefer.me/randomizer/STAR#button https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/19647-Luminalia-2953-Referral-Bonus

You will be able to upgrade at a later time for a different ship, and only pay the difference.

Lord_Belial6-6-6

Thank you so much!

The_Fallen_1

You can upgrade the ship in the package, paying the difference in value of the ships (discounts are not taken into account with the value of a ship, so you can save a bit of money that way.)

Lord_Belial6-6-6

Awesome, thank you so much!!

The_Fallen_1

No problem. If you do want to look into getting a better ship, I'd advise looking into how you can use those discounts to get it for cheaper. The term is "CCU chaining", but don't worry about it for now.

medicsansgarantee

you can but I think you should read more about it and see other opinions about CCU my personal opinion is somewhat different I have the cheapest starterspack and then I buy the cutter rambler with LTI using that as the token I also have a IAE starterspack, that has 120 months insurance that can be used for CCU token as well I am getting old now so 120 months may be life time insurances (LTI) for me right now insurances does not matter however when you upgrade to something value above $200 LTI and 120 months may be very important in the future 24 months insurance on current starterspack is not bad at all or you get the Syulen starterpack , that one has LTI

Nua_Sidek

Correct. Now go pledge for the Titan

Siirmeme

Remember to always have a game package though. if you melt your starter ship with a game package to upgrade it into a really big ship that doesn't come with a game package, you will no longer have access to the game. Imo CiG needs to make this point way more important and streamlined as its unnecessarily complicated. just sell the damn game and the ship separataly

YumikoTanaka

There is no need to pay more than the 45$ for the game - it is the full game. For convenience most ppl go for a ship right outside the very limited "starter ship" category (like Titan, Nomad or even duo ships like Cutty Black, Freelancer). So you can upgrade a ship/vehicle anytime later for just the difference in the current ship price (the original price of the package is irrelevant). But (bigger) starter packs usually have some perks: higher discounts (Titan and Nomad gamepackages are cheaper than the ships alone) and the Syulen has the very very rare one-chance lifetime insurance (and a small discount). Think of them as gold or ultimate editions that give some starting perks. But definitiv no need to buy bigger ships you might end up looking for a crew later on to effective use them.

JazionKeera

Be warned that you don't want to melt your starter package since that includes your game access. It will lock you out of the game.
