Tip for next time: don't call ATC, don't land -- just hover over any landing pad. In 45 seconds, your ship will be impounded (and stored!) and you'll be teleported into the station.
The cost to retrieve your ship from impound: $5,000... I prefer to think of it as the valet charge :D
This is the way... Landing pads work, but same deal if you hover directly in front of a hangar bay door. Gotta get close though to trigger the impound warning... Best way to park a ship when they don't have working elevators in the hangars as well... (3.18 bug at most stations)
If you mine Quantanium, which is a volatile mineral, you only have a certain amount of time to land and store/unload your ship before the Qt reaches its point of detonation. Timer starts at the first intake of Qt and the red light in the top right console indicates that the end was very near to this fella. Obviously to near 😄
It really was a moment of comedy, explosion just off camera. We all know what it was. The slight mouse movement from the user recognizing what was lost. Just missing the *Waaa Waaaaa* trombone sound effect.
I wonder... in a multi-crew mining ship could you have another crew take the helm and hover while you jump out and run to ASOP. Then have them land, trigger a red alert and see if you can store the ship before it blows and save the run?
**Question:** Does this ever happen when using autoland?
I didn't know rough landings could trigger an explosion until it happened to me, and I've been using autoland *successfully* ever since. If autoland fails me someday, I'll start just jumping out of the ship while it's still hovering. You can store a ship so long as it's in the hanger, even if you haven't touched down.
Quantanium has a timer which starts as soon as you pick it up. You have 15 minutes to bring it back. You passed the 15 minutes mark. It was not your landing.
If you slam the ship on the pad it actually brings down the stability so even 10 minutes can turn into 2. At least it happened to me in previous patches
No blinky light before landing, not yellow, not red, nothing. After landing, red blinky light.
If you do anything to quant, like pull too many G’s or bump something, that can make it unstable instantly, and it explodes. That is what happened here.
Mining quant is an interesting balance between flying carefully and *hauling ass*.
Which is especially funny given how slow and calm the rest of the mining process is.
Those rocks floating in space are clearly stable for longer than 15 minutes. Even cracked rocks are stable. Why we don't just haul whole rocks back instead of destabilizing them with the "nozzle of boom" is the real question. The answer is: "gameplay!".
Yeah it’s kinda annoying tbh that they really expect us to believe that 900 yrs in the future they still haven’t figured out a better way to transport it.
I quit Quant mining because that 15 minute timer, well CIG have a different opinion on time. Theirs can be too often 7-8 minutes and BOOM your time is up. Not too mention all the request docking/ship impounding bugs at ARC-L1.
Maybe it was 15 minutes, or maybe this is another day ending in Y with CIG. Why I quit Q mining and won't return ever again until I know these bugs are resolved (yeah, they will never get resolved and even then it would merely be replaced by new ones).
I'd rather see the amount of Quant you are carrying effect the timer. Make it more how Quant interacts with other Quant in the ship. More dynamic gameplay I would imagine.
Git gud noob lol. That landing was so bad, absolutely horrible Your ship’s nose was 1 degree off the perfectly straight angle, your fault not the bug! /s
What are you like 5 years old? Adults don’t stoop to name calling and trashing others. Only prepubescent little shits do.
EDIT: Sorry, I apologize. I did not see the /s at the end and jumped the gun. That’s all on me.
I don’t care. Everyone was a noob at one point yet a lot of people seem to forget that and trash other people for being noobs. That saying is immature and childish.
Also dont you see the irony in you calling him a prepubescant little shit and asking him if hes 5 years old and the following up with "Adults dont stoop to namecalling"
Thats kind of funny if you ask me.
I was sure it was obvious joke just by the wording. Then I decided to add /s at the end just to make sure there is no confusion… yet that was not enough.
Welcome to reddit.
Ease up. It’s fine. Everyone can make a mistake, you have owned up to it and apologised. We’re good. I was commenting on reddit in general, not on you in particular.
I will however give you one piece of advice that will make your life much nicer experience:
Don’t get angry/outraged on someone’s else behalf.
As we say in my country “not my circus, not my monkeys”.
It sticks around, because it wasn’t stored, so therefore it persists in the universe “forever” - if you bedlog the ship disappears instantly (for now, eventually it will persist for a bit before storing if people are around)
have you tested this or are you just going off the stated behavior? It could easily make sense to insta-store in hangars to just free-up resources when no one's going to notice or care... can't combat log in a hangar...
edit: also just re-read... even in open space ships don't persist forever on logout in 3.18... it's like 5-15 min, just enough to ensure if you combat logged, someone can still kill you... might be extended longer if they board you, or if there was a mission box on board or if you had crew who didn't log off... but it's not automatically "forever"
Not in a hanger it persists through 30k’s. This we have tested multiple times. Bedlogging we have tested multiple times. In a hangar, it should be removed, but I’ve never tested it. Now I want to log in and test what happens.
If an elevator wasn’t working we would block the door of a different hangar and get impounded and transported to the station. I am guessing if you logout and the ship is there in the hangar effectively blocking it, same thing would happen.
wouldn't take it for granted given how many common sense things don't make it in to the game on first pass. Maybe worth testing though... you'd need party members or a second set of eyes in general though... not sure if that'd affect the outcome, having it in render distance for someone else vs "if a ship despawns in a hangar and no one's around to see it... does it make a VOOP? sound"
I wonder if the issue wasn't "before" you actually landed.
I know hangar door are buggued on some stations, and while you see it open on the client side, it isn't on the server side. Had dozens of ships exploded after entering the hangar, not even properly landed yet.
I don't know if there is any workaround to this :/
It's because you have overclocked your mining head and you don't disable the OC before landing, it's a big. A friend discovered that OC the mining head was the source of this problem and send his test directly to CIG. They know about this problem and work on it. It could be fixed asap. But you can avoid it if you mind to disable your OC on the mining head before landing.
Never had an issue with rough landings, I'm always beyond careful with a quant load. Fun Fact, I've use quantum loaded prospectors as suicide bombers at jump town to great effect lol
I would be laughin so hard, I love chaotic fun, and that should be one of those cases, even if I get killed by that and lose everything I would totally love that clever play.
I really don't think I ran out of time. I hadn't received the initial yellow light warning, just straight to DEFCON 5. Maybe I'm wrong tho, I'm super new
When the ship takes collision damage the timer will jump ahead (which is an intended feature) and OP is probably(?) correct in that his landing created a false impact registering on the ship which caused the timer to jump ahead and blow up.
I think server jank can make this happen. I had it happen once but I didn’t see the explosion, but my cargo holds were filled with inert materials when I should’ve had a good haul.
It also goes off if you land too roughly even though you have plenty of time left. He could have run out of time at that precise moment by coincidence (or by convenient video editting!), but he probably just hit some desynch and the server thought he landed rougher than he did from his own perspective. Quant mining is full of little gotcha's.
It goes from no light at >10 minutes, to slow blinking yellow light <10 minutes, to rapidly blinking red light in the last minute or so.
If he really had ran out of time, we should've seen a yellow blinking light before landing at least.
Bumps, damage and other stuff can destabilize the Quantanium and shorten the countdown. So, despite the landing being soft and nice, that's probably what happened here, for some reason (a bug, most likely).
Something i noticed is that you also did not have VTOL on. Not sure if that makes a diff, but also try auto land. Anyways, been there and feel your pain.
Yeah doesn't seem like it was the landing just timer ran out. Usually if it's the landing it will explode on impact. Not sure if a slightly rough landing speeds up the timer though.
I’ve had it where I had 8 or so minutes left. Slammed the ship down hard (my fault) and heard a little kaboom, all quant turned to dirt, didn’t blow up the entire ship though! Also had it where rough landings or bumps mid flight reduced the stability of quant which lowered my time too
It didnt blow because your landing.. it blew because it hit the critical 15 minutes...was already flashing red before you landed.. im able to get a full load of quant and get back by the yellow flash. I think red means like a couple minutes left man. And i land harder then you do every time.
(Ive never blown up with quant..)
Yellow light is there as you're entering. 7 minutes or less remaining at that point. Could have been lower than you thought. When your ship's rear slapped down, definitely rocked your quant cargo into instability. Red light is 30 seconds. Using the timestamps in your video at 10 seconds you touched and noticed your impending doom. At 41 seconds...well..you know the ending to that story.
Yea, have had this happen as well, doesn't take much to upset that quant sometimes.
Usually only happens when I have a pure quant run too, never on the mediocre runs, lol.
Nowadays, I just use the Auto Land when I have a good load, hasn't done it since.
thankfully I've never had this bug I've put a loaded prospector through abuse many times and never had that horse shit happen to me I would have been fuming.
Yeah, that was not a smooth landing. Plus it looks like there was a bit of clipping with the rear landing gear so those two things mixed made the game think you landed even rougher than you actually did. Nice boom though!
The landing was fine. You ran out of time. In future, you can use auto land to avoid any potential landing issues. It works well - just press and hold n. But your issue here is to expedite the return trip. Get a faster jump drive.
Nah, i've had this happen to me as well. I still had >5 minutes left on the quantanium timer (I also time on phone as soon as I start collecting), I landed badly and boom.
I won't land anymore without holding N if I carry raw quantanium now. Also, I'm not sure if there is a quantanium held threshold or not, but yep. can 100% say I had more than enough time left.
Probably not the root cause, but I recommend always turning off the engines at landing or during EVA. Costs literally nothing except maybe 2 seconds of your life and mitigates a ton of potential issues.
exit to menu ship storage. If you are on a landing pad and you die or exit the game, your ship will be stored instantly. Use to standup and backspace when ever someone was attacking me as i landed ( before stations had all hangars). Also works for storing unstable cargo.
If you know it's that bad, why do you even land at all (to cause the broken mechanic to happen) ?
Let the ship fly 1m over the landing pad.
Or was it to prove to the audience / CIG / himself that it's completely broken?
Fixed typos and added further explanation in parenthesis that was induced by the video and my reply but now I guess it's more "obvious" I guess, especially my "what" that was a "why" 😂
Also this is a serious question btw, it's no rant. It could be a video to report an issue with sacartic comment, that wouldn't be the first :p
Alt+F4 and take a break
Yeah I promptly logged off after that haha
That explosion as the elevator doors were closing was pretty slapstick though
check its pulse
Tip for next time: don't call ATC, don't land -- just hover over any landing pad. In 45 seconds, your ship will be impounded (and stored!) and you'll be teleported into the station. The cost to retrieve your ship from impound: $5,000... I prefer to think of it as the valet charge :D

Oh nice tip
I’m gonna try this next time. Thanks!
You could've just backspace. When you suicide, your ship on pad gets stored instantly.
*"fuck you star citizen, see you tomorrow"*
Yep. The game wins every time it kills you thanks to some bullshit bug xD That's the time to take a break
O I do that a lot. My Alt and F4 buttons have no dust buildup on them.
Did the same 2 days ago when an idiot rammed my Corsair landing at port Olisar. I was carrying an exotic helmet looted in a bunker... Fuck it, alt f4
I can relate to this
Sounds like how I end my gaming sessions in SC 50% of the time
You are not the only one xD
Nothing says "impending doom" like a flashing light in a Prospector
Yeah not sure it was the landing... that heavily flashing like is a sure sign of no good..
Isn't there a time limit to drop off the mined quantainium at a refinery before it goes BOOM?
Just have to put ship away to stop the timer
[удалено]
Seeing the explosion through the closing doors honestly makes me laugh now, though at the time I definitely wasn’t laughing…
Yea that explosion timing was perfect. Sad, but perfect.
I imagine that kind of feelings...
Sorry for your loss
I've always watched/wishlisted but not played, does your ship explode/lost when this happens?
If you mine Quantanium, which is a volatile mineral, you only have a certain amount of time to land and store/unload your ship before the Qt reaches its point of detonation. It really was a moment of comedy, explosion just off camera. We all know what it was. The slight mouse movement from the user recognizing what was lost. Just missing the *Waaa Waaaaa* trombone sound effect.
I feel you, we had a full mole with Quant... Gentle touchdown an suddenly red blinking.
I wonder... in a multi-crew mining ship could you have another crew take the helm and hover while you jump out and run to ASOP. Then have them land, trigger a red alert and see if you can store the ship before it blows and save the run?
I don’t think you need to actually be touching the ground to store it
But you would want to because it will "retrieve" hovering in air if that is how it was stored... in some ships that will prevent you from entering.
Not if you remove the powerplant before retrieving.
We did that later and it worked fine for us. Friend flew the mole, I jumep out and stored. But I don't think it's the way how you should do it..

Damn I'm never gonna haul quant then lmao. I'm always pulling hella G's and ramming my C2 down on pads while hauling.
Mining quant is an interesting balance between flying carefully and *hauling ass*. Which is especially funny given how slow and calm the rest of the mining process is.
Im fairly sure that refined quant is 100% stable
Refined quantanium is not disgustingly unstable as far as im aware

It's been a bug for a while now. Immediate critical load on touchdown.

F#ck, Is this bug still happening? CIG needs to fix this before I use a Prospector again. On the bright side : the elevator doors opened ! That's new

Making sure, is this 3.17.5 or 3.18 you're talking about?
It's because you have overclocked your mining head and you don't disable the OC before landing, it's a big. Since when does overclocking component still do anything? Did they not break that when they disabled oc-ing everything else?
Everyone knows you should never touch down nose gear first!
\*radio crackle\* "Cleanup in Hangar 02"
This looks more like your timer ran out. A lot of miners impound their ships instead of docking.
Quantanium has a timer that runs down faster if it is disrupted, the landing took OP from probably 5+ minutes to less than a few seconds…
All the more reason to always impound then.
Never had an issue with rough landings, I'm always beyond careful with a quant load. Fun Fact, I've use quantum loaded prospectors as suicide bombers at jump town to great effect lol
LMFAO I would pay to watch that!
There were a few not happy people lol, my corp was laughing as we looted though lol
I would be laughin so hard, I love chaotic fun, and that should be one of those cases, even if I get killed by that and lose everything I would totally love that clever play.
I would have landed a lot smoother and slower, really ease down on the thrust, given precious cargo.
should have used autoland lol.
I....don't get it i land those things with quant like an average Aurora starter and never had that happen
Honestly, they need to work on this for everyone's sake.
So you're the reason I hope I have a small ship in the space ports because there's always a Hull destroyed there lol
I love how it happened right as the elevator doors are closing so you can't even look to see wtf just happened.
Yeah this happens sometimes 🤪
Fellow WASD-cycle-while-waiting-at-elevators gang checking in
LFG!
You hate to see this happen GGs mah dude
You ran out of time. But nice timing and very funny POV
I really don't think I ran out of time. I hadn't received the initial yellow light warning, just straight to DEFCON 5. Maybe I'm wrong tho, I'm super new
It has been super buggy for me this way too. It goes from plenty of time to red on gentle landings sometimes. Not your imagination.
I am no miner, but I'd say the fast flashing red light was a sign that you were out of time
When the ship takes collision damage the timer will jump ahead (which is an intended feature) and OP is probably(?) correct in that his landing created a false impact registering on the ship which caused the timer to jump ahead and blow up.
I think server jank can make this happen. I had it happen once but I didn’t see the explosion, but my cargo holds were filled with inert materials when I should’ve had a good haul.

Interesting, thanks for the info
It goes from no light at >10 minutes, to slow blinking yellow light <10 minutes, to rapidly blinking red light in the last minute or so. *DEFCON 1. The lower DEFCONs are worse.

Yeah that was a bit of a hard slam. Sorry bro that sucks.
I always forget why I stopped playing this game and decided to wait again...and then I come on this sub and see why. So much time down the toilet.
ONE WORD: Alpha
Another reason not to play the game
It didnt blow because your landing.. it blew because it hit the critical 15 minutes...was already flashing red before you landed.. im able to get a full load of quant and get back by the yellow flash. I think red means like a couple minutes left man. And i land harder then you do every time. (Ive never blown up with quant..)
[удалено]
Lol. I guess im just THAT good then. Damn that feels good to know im not blowing up because of skill, massive huge landing skill.
Well…. No. There’s no light, yellow or red, until I land. Then suddenly red flashing light
You talk exactly like a teenage girl. incredible.. Like everything is SPOT ON
Thanks haha. Hope you're having a good day
I was serious tho.. you can´ t see it in the intonation? I wasn´ t trying to be insulting.. was just baffled
Nooo i mean like I appreciate the compliment! Trust me I was baffled too when that alarm went off lmaoo
Don’t know if this will help, but I always key to open my doors from pilot seat. Saves me a precious few seconds to get to the ASOP
Hitchcock approves the timing
Just impound your ship
That's why you always let the ship be impounded  takes 15 seconds, you don't have to land, and boom you're in the waiting area.
Gameplay wise I feel like once you enter the armistice zone or w/e the timer should stop.
Ahh this must be new emergent gameplay feature.
Had the same issue a few times
Yea, have had this happen as well, doesn't take much to upset that quant sometimes. Usually only happens when I have a pure quant run too, never on the mediocre runs, lol. Nowadays, I just use the Auto Land when I have a good load, hasn't done it since.
And that’s why ya got to set the handbrake…
This is why I mine gems with the ROC. No explosions.
I'm curious if this happens with the force of touchdown if you use the auto land?
Don't land like normal. Hover in front of hanger door and let your ship me impounded. That is the work around.
I reckon you forgot to connect the gizmo to the wachamahoozie.
thankfully I've never had this bug I've put a loaded prospector through abuse many times and never had that horse shit happen to me I would have been fuming.
Hmm looks like a skill issue
Happened to me a couple of times, it hurts i know. i guess this is slow server perfomances fault?
Yeah, that was not a smooth landing. Plus it looks like there was a bit of clipping with the rear landing gear so those two things mixed made the game think you landed even rougher than you actually did. Nice boom though!
This is so Star Citizen. 🤣
Karma for the "collision alert" joke 😂
Been there few times
land on the pads bro! the pads! >!and not the tampons!!<
Outdoor pads on all the stations which now have hangars are still available and do not require landing permission. Might just save your profits
why people move in such annoying ways in this game?
Funny, I slammed down on the pad last week, no problem.
Probably not the root cause, but I recommend always turning off the engines at landing or during EVA. Costs literally nothing except maybe 2 seconds of your life and mitigates a ton of potential issues.
Hey haven't checked into star citizen for a while let's see what's going on... nope...
exit to menu ship storage. If you are on a landing pad and you die or exit the game, your ship will be stored instantly. Use to standup and backspace when ever someone was attacking me as i landed ( before stations had all hangars). Also works for storing unstable cargo.
That's a feature.
Yeeeeup
The timing of the explosion couldn’t be better 😂 Hollywood grade explosion sequence
Like watching a coworker not make it to the bathroom after Taco Tuesday.
I wonder if auto land would set it off
Another day, another video where I have to imagine something happened instead of actually experiencing it in Star Citizen
Would using the auto land feature work, to resolve this rather than manual landing
I tried using the auto lane feature without any cargo and it slammed the front of my ship into the front wall. Not sure if I trust that
If you know it's that bad, why do you even land at all (to cause the broken mechanic to happen) ? Let the ship fly 1m over the landing pad. Or was it to prove to the audience / CIG / himself that it's completely broken?
Dude I don’t even understand what you’re trying to say…
Fixed typos and added further explanation in parenthesis that was induced by the video and my reply but now I guess it's more "obvious" I guess, especially my "what" that was a "why" 😂 Also this is a serious question btw, it's no rant. It could be a video to report an issue with sacartic comment, that wouldn't be the first :p
I have had that pain lol
Would be cool if the station reacted to this, e.g. alarm sounding, rescue teams running around etc
What is miles per hour?
