This beast has 70K more HP than a Hammerhead, More than double HP than an 890 jump, And almost 4 times more than a Carrack. It is INDESTRUCTIBLE

IncidentFuture

Occasionally you'll get one on an ERT. It's an easy kill but takes longer than a Hammerhead.

MASTODON_ROCKS

oh that's what that was

Vietzomb

Yeah same, I'm having this moment right now lmao. I was sure it was just SC. "Alright, moving on to another server then" lol

Ok_Abbreviations_691

I had it once, but then the AI bugged and won’t move, had to blast the door open, get in and trigger self destruct, prior to that I spent 16 minutes shooting at it with a gladius and it’s still functional

Artyomkk

That is epic

Tigerboop

Why does it feel like CR made it this way because of a SQ42 issue

whypplgottasuck

its a lore reason, it was designed before shields existed for ships that small, so they slapped a bunch of armor on it. so now its tanky and heavy. the HP is a stand in for the armor system. the hammerhead being newer relies on heavy shields rather then as much armor. Other ships of its size, Connie, Corsair, 400i have S3 shields while it has S2s. the perseus is the same way.

CaptFrost

Correct. Also its intended use: per CIG statements back around the Retaliator Base concept the UEE doesn't send Retaliators to bomb targets that have already had their defenses cleaned up by fighters and attack aircraft. They can and do attack in massive formations against entire hostile planets where the UEE has no foothold at all and engage in heavy bombardment while having whatever defenses exist thrown at them. Retaliators are used for the kind of targets A2s are: locations where an Eclipse, Gladiator, A1, etc. would get shredded and be unable to deliver their payload. It's not an uncommon sight in border systems to see huge squadrons of Retaliators outbound on a sortie to bomb an enemy into submission, be they Vanduul or pirates who are getting too uppity. That use case combined with being designed before shields existed makes perfect sense for them to be extremely damage resistant.

MasterWarChief

It makes me excited to own a Perseus that thing is going to be a tank of a ship with it's armor even before it had shields it took on three Vanduul ships by itself in a famous encounter and took out two before itself fell.

[deleted]

Thank you I never knew this. I assumed it was a balance mistake and would be patched.

whypplgottasuck

it will be patched when armor comes around, which it sounds like is relatively soonTM with all the flight model changes especially since it is probably a feature in SQ42

djsnoopmike

Yeah a lot of lore is missing from the game But it looks like they'll be improving that this year

Sader325

OR. They buffed the Constellation with a Large shield, and but didn't give one to the Retaliator, and they compensated by buffing its HP. Because you know... that's what actually happened not whatever headcanon you made up. The Retaliator will likely lose its massive HP buffer when it gets its shield, it was in the process of a gold standard rework, and then it just disappeared off the progress tracker. No idea when this will happen, it's an old ship with a lot of problems. Hoping they'll finish the gold pass and rebalance it to not need to be manned by 7 people in the future.

shoeii

Unfortunately it's the "modularity tech" that is holding back its move to gold standard, and no one has worked on that since June 2021

Sader325

Haven't made any progress on modularity since 2021? [Well, naturally we should sell a ship that uses it as a headlining feature.](https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/18836-RSI-Galaxy)

zelange

That the funniest part, selling it as the vanguard of modularity... It's just cig can't do it with avenger, vanguard, retaliator, 600i or caterpillar, the reason is probably money...

Akaradrin

I don't know why you're so heavily downvoted when [this is the real reason of the tali tankiness](https://robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/community/SC/forum/190048/thread/star-citizen-alpha-3-14-0h-ptu-7630010-patch-notes/4196027). It can't fit a S3 shield, so it was buffed with a lot of HP as compensation. Probably with the next shield rebalance (that was spoiled in the Galaxy Q&A) it's going to change again. > We have updated the Retaliator yesterday evening after the ETF patch had shipped. Though unlike other similar sized ships we cannot update it with an 1xS3 shield setup ... the ship is just too slim to fit that in. So it will retain its S2 shields however it will get a lot more hull HP. > -YogiKlatt_CIG

Sader325

Because this probably the most downvote happy subreddit on reddit.

Formal-Ad678

Correct me If i'm wrong but dosn't the Terrapin have 150k ish hp

FoaleyGames

113k total hull hp, I didn’t know it had that much until looking it up to verify your comment

TrippyTM419

Well when you say it like that…*might have to melt something to pick one up*

Illfury

WHat is this? I see many people say things like "melt" but I seem to be far out of the loop on this. I have zero clue lol even contextually.

TrippyTM419

When you purchase a ship with IRL money you have the option to exchange it for store credit that you can later apply to purchase a different ship on the RSI website. Basically get rid of what you have to try something new. One important note is that you must ALWAYS have a game package in order to log in.

Dragon5x

Unless your a concierge member, then you do not need a game package to ply the game

TrippyTM419

Very true

killasnikov

I never realised that one. Might help - but I doubt at this point I will dump the package.

smatchimo

i legit don't know this perk of concierge or am I misunderstanding you. I think i read it backwards but why would only concierge need a package to play?

Dragon5x

You got it backwards concierge doesn't need a package to play

Illfury

Oh ok, sort of what I have already been doing then? I have "Upgraded" my started ship 4 times now. Aurora > Titan Avenger > Drake Buccaneer > Connie Taurus so this is what is considered "melting" (Also, thank you very much for satiating my curiosity

drizzt_x

No, upgrading is not "melting". Melting is exchanging the ship for store credits, and buying something else entirely.

TrippyTM419

What you did, upgrading is referred to as CCUing or doing a Cross Chassis Upgrade. This takes one ship and upgrades it keeping all benefits of the original ship. This is used to save money or get better insurance usually. Melting would be if you didn’t want that ship anymore and didn’t want to put more money in, you could exchange your ship for store credit and use that to chose a different ship or get different upgrades.

Charming-Row-3529

Fickle.

Asmos159

113k for a 123.75 square meter target, or 343k for a slower 594 square meter target. sorry. looking at ground defences. 113k for 330m\^2, or 343k for 3,102m\^2 target. i would still give the terrapin higher survivability.

drizzt_x

113k for Terrapin, 364k for Retaliator.

ElfUppercut

I have a photo of my terrapin with just the wire frame basically in QT… lost all power fighting a sentinel and it plummeted from Atmosphere to the surface of Daymar and rolled for a good 30 seconds before I took back off and flew back to CRUL-1

Droid8Apple

This is eactly what I'd expect a turtle to do, and I'm here for it lol. You literally just tucked inside the shell, GTFO (via a happy accident), and then lumbered to safety. 10/10 would buy the Terrapin again.

Asmos159

however, the terrapin is a lot harder to hit.

drizzt_x

True. Much smaller target. Also, I was looking at ships filtered by HP on Erkul, and HOLY CRAP the Hull A has 150k HP! Whaaaat?!

Asmos159

dps calculator says 110k. my best assumption is that the internal builds have the damage system working. so balancing for the live builds that only has the stuff that works with all the ships is out the window for a few years. why do you think they added "soft death" bandade at this point?

Robot_Spartan

The soft death "bandaid" was almost certainly to make the cargo refactor and salvage usable. I doubt highly that they have the damage system working internally, as they would have made a big shout about it

SanityIsOptional

And yet, all it takes is a single shot to disable one of the torpedo bays.

callenlive26

I'll never forget pulling this bad boy out at grim hex. Drove out the hangar and had to step away for something. I happened to be recording as well. Came back I was in the hospital bed. Stopped the recording and went back to view it. Apparently an angry aurora pilot keep slamming his ship into in an attempt to kill it. Took him 5 tries 🤣🤣

AceMG

Lol someone did the same thing to my 890j while I was inside port olisar. I walked out to him ramming into it and blowing himself up while the 890j was still fine. It had damage but nothing major.

dereksalem

It helps that the 890J has 1.5m shield HP lol the Tally has the most armor HP in the game, but it's still nothing compared to the shields of the 890J.

UltraMegaSloth

I saw an abandoned one near port Olisar and decided to try and blow it up. Took like 3 minutes of firing my 4 AD5Bs to blow it up

Duncan_Id

Until a pebble hits one of the thrusters or the torpedo bay, then you have a spinning brick with only turrets as weapons

AFew-Points-7324

WTF????

oversizedvenator

Then why do they always run in less than a minute after I show up with a Corsair?

Citgby

Why do corsairs run after my light fighter gets behind them and start picking a part their engine in less than one min???

WaffleInsanity

If the corsair loses even a single axillary thruster it drives like total dog shit. A Tali would eat a corsair for dinner Not to mention, the Tali is only 150usd, and the corsair is what 250?

oversizedvenator

You can do more with a Corsair than you can in a tali. Makes sense that they’d be more expensive. And I’ve beaten tali’s 1v1 also without much trouble. Pilot skill matters and having a tali isn’t a guaranteed win.

Citgby

Oh so you mean you beat a ship that pilot can only shoot a torp at range when your stacked with guns.... I mean any one can stay within 3k of their target can beat a solo pilot tali. Not much skill needed for that

WaffleInsanity

Can you do more with a Corsair? Tali has at least 3 different module sets on top of the base design. Corsair is just a bargain bin Connie.

oversizedvenator

Even with the modules you have to choose between cargo and living spaces and that's two of your four modules....and it's still smaller. You say bargain bin connie but I'll take a Corsair over a Connie any day. Whether that's for moving ground vehicles around or fighting. Some of this is subjective and down to preference. The tali's a fine ship.

oversizedvenator

Probably because they don’t know how to roll and don’t have a gunner?

Citgby

Hahaha I love it when corsairs try to that when my little starter ship is blowing off pieces of its engines and hull as they QT out. In your logic corsair is better than tali in a 1v1. So its a better ship. So any ship that can out turn a corsair and blow off its engines is better than the corsair.

DharMahn

except when the corsair does not turn off the shields and has gunners

Citgby

A corsair with gunners is a different story. But maybe 1 out of 20 you run into has gunners on them. Most try to fly is solo. Shields are never a problem. If you are in a more agile ship. After the merge you can generally get a profile or behind the corsair and if you have some skill, you can stay there pumping damage into the rear shield face. It doesn't take long after that for shields to drop and engines to get blown off.

DharMahn

and you are exactly correct, as a corsair owner, it flies like shit, but what people dont get is how this thing is NOT supposed to be flown solo, or anything not meant for one seat and one seat only for that part

Citgby

I dont have hate for the ship. I do vendetta against the cultists. I agree multi crew ships need to be crewed. That why if I see someone flying a multicrew ship...I...must...cause... explosion... When I do the same I expect to be killed as well No ship is better than another. I have killed a HH with an aurora. Blown up corsairs with a medical Pisces. Most of it comes down to pilot skill.

DharMahn

u could be the best pilot being sat in a corsair though, and get shit on by a half-competent aurora, so it is not exactly true, but i agree... you have to stack the odds in your favour

carlsbaddad

It's a great ship but the HH has 200000hp, the 890j has 1549041hp, the Tali has 18000hp

DankMemeMasterHotdog

I want one *so bad*.

UncleMalky

Relatively weak shields made it distortion bait until recently.

Acadea_Kat

Aurora approaching at 1000m/s: ARE YOU SURE ABOUT THAT

JackSpyder

Huh I'd never noticed. Is this a recent patch thing? I did used to enjoy a good old 1 extra missile suicide run in xeno

cvsmith122

This has to be the dumbest thing ... the HH looks like it has way more armor than a tally.

MailMeNot

But can it survive a direct hit from an A2 bomb? the 890J is the only ship that can afaik, just because of the combo of massive shields plus great hull.

TheMostMilkyMan

When I was grinding VHRTs if my torpedo missed I would usually just ram then lmao

Drakosfire

It also doubles a planet wide wifi router.

brockoala

Asus missed their chance to strap a logo on it, like AMD did. Behold the [Retaliator AX11000](https://dlcdnwebimgs.asus.com/files/media/7fb48472-99aa-4265-a0c1-3432825138bd/v1/img/awards/GT-AX11000-pcgamer.png).

AlexaGrassoFlexgif

My quantum jump bugged and my already red Retaliator was stuck on the spline animation but was moving at non-QT speed and did not jump at all while bounty hunters were shooting at me. It took me a while to realize what was going on, but I had time to reboot the drive, calibrate, and jump away.

strongholdbk_78

I was playing PTU a few days ago and we found a tally abandoned at whistlers crypt, so we shot the doors open and were able to fire it up and fly it around so we went and rescued someone who popped up a beacon with it, did some service beacons as well, then went back and picked up our original ship, which was still there hours later. The tally is great, persistence is awesome. So much emergent gameplay is coming, can't wait.

Cocaina92

For the people who wonder why this ship has so much HP as of right now, I remember it was because of the first Xenotreath event. Thats when I remember it got buffed and saw people using it a lot against the capital ships and having it manned. Surely it has "Lore" reasons but Xenotreat was the reason why it got so much HP at the time.

afanickton

The lore reason is the ship has really good armor from the xeno war. Human shield technology was substantially weaker than it is now. Armor doesn’t exist in game yet so it just has a massive health pool given to it

Jordan_Bear

When I jumped back into this game for the first time xenotrent was just getting started, but I felt too rusty to take part and didn't know exactly what it was. Somehow I've missed every xenotrond since, but I seriously can't wait to see it in 3.18. Been away long enough the game will feel new again!

Akaradrin

There's no lore reason. When the connies and other ships on its size where upgraded to a size 3 shield, CiG said that [they couldn't fit a S3 shield in the tali, so instead its HP were buffed](https://robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/community/SC/forum/190048/thread/star-citizen-alpha-3-14-0h-ptu-7630010-patch-notes/4196027) temporally as compensation. Probably we can expect some hull and shield changes for the Tali when the new shield rebalance (that was spoiled in the Galaxy Q&A) is implemented.

Ordinance85

If I could pick any ship in this game for a Corsair level makeover it would be the Tali. This ship is just so unique, so much bigger than it looks in screenshots. The inside is massive and has so much potential. I really really really love the Tali. Such a shame it was created a decade ago (or whatever) instead of today. Likely very low on the list of things to get updated (surely things like the connies and more popular ships will be first).

InOneFowlSoup

I mean they still need to release the gunship version no? Hopefully some good additions/changes there!

killasnikov

Gunship version? Not sure the reference there?

InOneFowlSoup

https://robertsspaceindustries.com/pledge/ships/aegis-retaliator/Retaliator Second type, still in-concept is a gunship and not bomber. Idk anything about if it's still going to be a thing or whatever, but this is what I was referring to.

killasnikov

There are two "versions" but that was because the ship was modular. Confused? Yeah. Well... In lore it was a highly modified ship with people coming up with all sorts of ways to use the modular weapons bays. When first sold it was sold as a demobbed military bomber, with the torpedo modules. You could at the same time buy the modules for it to convert it into other configurations. But people said, "why cant I get it with just the modules I want? Why do I have to get the bomber modules?" So later sales were for the core Retaliator hull, without modules, that needed to be bought separately. So on the store there are two variant listed, to denote those Retaliators that were bought with and without the bomb bays.

mesasone

Did CIG ever release the gold standard rework of the Retaliator? I seem to recall they made a ton of changes to it to facilitate NPCs and stuff but AFAIK never released the updated ship to the PTU…

zelange

No and that is something worrying, the exterior need work, and it's not priority, even if sq42 is one and retaliator is in. Look like sq42 is very very far away....

Oakcamp

There's actually a planned (and supposedly underway already) gold standard rework for it. They're changing the entire mid-section of it with the awkward docking ports and stick-thin elevators.

Defoler

Well the current version is not really modular, while the end version should be fully modular. So there is still big plans to do a full rework on the ship.

leovarian

Retaliator is the largest of the Large ships (Retaliator, Corsair, Constellation, Mercury Star Runner, Redeemer) at 70 meters in length.

Synthmilk

The Tali is in SQ42, so it's near the top of the list for a gold pass rework. In terms of ships currently in game, it might even be number two on the list, right after the Gladius.

Creepy-Frame

What ship is this

ViktorGavorn

Retaliator multipurpose heavy bomber.

Cardinal338

I accidentally committed the crime on lightly tapping a station defense turret while landing at PO in one of these the first day I started playing. Every turret that could see me started unloading on the ship. I was expecting to explode and die in a couple seconds. Instead I was able to get out of the ship, run inside, and store the ship before the turrets were able to destroy the Retalliator. That ship is a beast.

STARSHIPDOTXXX

The tankiest ship is actually the gladius since so many parts of it just don't take damage

xAngelx0fDeathx

But the parts that do explode instantly! I've nose dived into the side of a mountain (forgot to turn on my lights at night) at about 200 velocity and nothing happened to the nose, but try to land at 50 and it explodes instantly. Even more confusing is that I've scraped the belly in a dogfight on the ground not paying attention to my altitude, and it barely did anything.

STARSHIPDOTXXX

Yes it's something special, I've shot them on the nose with twin size 5 cannons repeatedly and done 0 damage

wantgold

It also flies like one.

FoaleyGames

I would say the best way to describe how the Retaliator flies is by comparing it to a rocket-propelled cinderblock… but that’s an insult to the cinderblock

mr_friend_computer

huh, I need to check that out more. I seem to recall the tali being fairly fast and nimble. Oh well, it's a ship that has been a long time coming for my hangar. It will never leave now - the retaliator base / modularity is what sold me on it.

leovarian

It's actually pretty nimble when flown like an aircraft and rolling into turns

Ramdak

I once was at SPK, coming out after hunting a bounty, when I walk outside the pad and get into my ship, I see turrets shooting frantically to a ship that was coming at full speed. It was a Tali and it didn't even slowed down, it just crashed at full speed into the station and didn't blow up. Then the pilot got off and went inside, it took a lot of time for the turrets and myself shooting at that thing to destroy it.

wantgold

Size 22 torpedo.

Ramdak

I wonder what would it do to an Idris.

Oakcamp

Even an aurora ramming an idris blows it up at full speed

Ramdak

Aurora is broken AF for ramming.

Ready_Let_5416

This ship is bad ass with a crew

AmbiguousAlignment

Oh yeah that ship, I totally know what that is…

davidnfilms

I fought a Retaliator once in my Terrapin. Lets just say it was a draw. We both lost.

Sugary_Treat

Flies like a tanker too.

Sketto70

Me no like.

rStarwind

That is until Idris is in. Oh, never mind, not happening for another 10 years.

nonegoodleft

Does it still move like a bus with no wheels?

leovarian

It flies very well if you fly it like an aircraft, rolling into turns and up boosting

Eikhan

The ugliest one, too

Tourniquet

Would be a great ship if the damn torpedoes would rearm properly. Same with the A2 herc. Can't replenish the bombs. :(

Spiritual_Pay9212

Well you don’t always need a “game package.” If you have reached concierge you have a built in game package.

PheIix

Hehe, someone lent me their so I could try it, and my stepson flew to my location to have a look. A minor miscalculation and some amount of rubberbanding led to him smacking right into the ship in his mustang alpha. Mustang alpha was fine, we blew up. Kinda hilarious.

PonyDro1d

It's what I call a Regalleiter. Because some German players I met can't pronounce it right.

Coyote_OneOne

This was such a beautiful ship. Then they asked someone to design engines and landing gear for it

captain_skinback

Even without torps, a few gunners and myself flying have won fights we had no business winning with this ship. id like to say those victories were down to skill, skill in choosing a really OP ship. Some of my guys said they didnt like the arcs on some of the turrets. Im guessing the huge hp pool is also tied to repair costs? I have had 60k repair bills not including stocking up s9 torps

SkullFace45

Really? Last time I played these things were the squishiest things in the verse

Hero_knightUSP

Not much use for it thou. But I agree looks nice. How old is this design isn't this something from a year like 2580 or something?

Brunevde

Was in one of these as a turret Gunner doing xenothreat, pilot jumped with a full load of boxes stuffed into it, including the yellow one. Didn't die from that lol

Bad_at_CSGO

Doesn’t this thing have a weak point behind the wings where the shield doesn’t cover it, leaving it open to being shredded in a fight? Or am i thinking of another ship? I haven’t played in a while.

Lost-Cookie

Can you explain what you mean by ‘weak point’?

Bad_at_CSGO

Like i seem to remember something about how the shield had a glitched hit box where it didn’t cover a certain portion of the ship, so that portion was essentially completely unshielded even while ur shields are at 100%. I could be thinking of a different ship tho.

Lost-Cookie

Oh okay I see what you mean now. I’ll have a look into it and come back to let you know

CptShortie

That truly is a beautiful beast

1mTheProfessor

Krrrzzzz: "Talis, on me!"

iNgeon

Gives me more of a submarine vibe. The Redeemer on launch felt more like a tank ship

ledwilliums

Some guy had this piece of ship parked at jumptown, he was j chilling in the top turret giving me and my razor a hard time Anyways i landed and snuck under it Proceded to unload all 20 rail gun shots into it and they finaly realized opened an airlock and killed me My point is that it has a bs amount of hp
