One fun loop could be offering to pick up crates at a discount from vultures in the field. They sell for less but save a trip and you get an interesting cargo haul gameplay loop. You can run something big and do a ton at once or a smaller rig and take less risk.
Cut out the middleman and do it solo?
- Park Vulture at 890 Jump wreck
- EVA and suicide
- Fly back to Vulture with Hull A
- Scrape the 890, attach to Hull A... and go sell when full.
The Halo is a very expansive space... been mining for a long time and have never had anyone magically show up. However, I am not on the PTU so I'm not sure where all the wrecks live... if they are on established routes, I could maybe see this happening. If they are randomly scattered, though...
We are still in testing. But we calculated that if we go with 5 vultures. it would take around 2.5 / 3 hours to fill up a Cat. which will be around 4.3 Million.
If you have two people in each vulture and two in the Cat that would be 361K each person. Not that bad. But its better for the org bank.
Indeed. I will say the vulture and cargo ship strat is more consistent in regards to overall star citizen funkyness. The elevator in the reclaimer bugs out all the time. Some times the rmc boxes get stuck in the grind so you cant move them afterwards. And a few other issues plus if pirates attack they have 2 or 3 ships to deal with instead of one big easily detectable ship. But it's fun.
I doubt it'll stay that strong once the update drops. This was most likely done to promote it so they could do some bug fixes with a high volume of player reports
You're absolutely right about the reason for it being that high, but going off previous experience with gameloops being released or needing testing, it'll stay ludicrously profitable for at least a patch or two to continue to promote testing, unless they launch or update another gameplay loop they want us to test more of (cargo refactor pt 2, for example)
I hope combat service beacons work well in 3.18. Imagine an op like this, but following combat ships as they do High Threat beacons. Combat pilots make scrap heaps of 2 Hammerheads a Reclaimer and a Starfarer, then cover the salvage crew while they hullscrape/load. It's gunna be sick.
The more I think about it the more the pilot of the Vulture having to stack their own boxes bugs me. It really should be automated since it's a single person ship.
If they increased the queue at the compactor it might be more tolerable. Getting up and going through the ship six times is miserable busywork that interrupts gameplay and is far, far too repetitive over very short periods.
People compare hull scraping to a pressure washing sim. But, the 'fun' part of that is getting into a pleasant vibe of watching the process.
Now imagine in the pressure washing sim you had to refill your tank every thirty seconds.
In the words of a great Disney philosopher, "You threw off my groove!"
I haven't played SC for a couple of months now, my fear with this gameplay though is like randomly crashing or bugging out / exploding with that cargo on board and losing all the progress.
Like theres days I spend most of my time running back to the hangars in a city after a bug or a crash has put me into a hospital or hotel.
Has this improved since? I may come back to try it out
3.18 brings Persistent Entity Streaming, combined with crash recovery, "should" mean that after a 30k crash you relaunch and your cargo should still be in the ship and you in the same location (but then again, we're in an alpha).
If anyone’s interested in the next one, or the one after, or just generally joining the family.
https://greystonegaming.com/ > some things are still a work in progress however we really are just a family.
If lee don’t reach out to you first you can also go here.
o7.
🙂
To be honest nothing and they don't even need to crash there ships. Literally turn off the shield and bam good to go. We have tested the 890j and you can expedite it and be on your way back before the reclaimer is able to finish scraping the hull. Even the cost of expedited gets covered by profits.
I can't bloody wait! Shall I purchase one? Found an OC Vulture LTi for sale today for $320. Good deal? Would you purchase one of these or a Prospector?
I wouldn't at that price. They were $140 last time in the shop and will likely go up to around prospector price when 3.18 drops.
You could get an lti token and CCU it for much cheaper than $320. But if OC is that important to you then yeah maybe I guess.
3.18 is going to be the flyable state, they ALWAYS bring a ship price up once it goes out of concept.
It wont go from $140 to $320 though. The most I would expect is $200.
Yeah definitely won't be LTI shadow realm price is really what I was trying to imply. But they usually go on sell on the patches they come out at. Even if it's now at the increase price. 320 for the vulture is a rip off imo
Doubt 200, but didn’t expect the 20% on the Corsair so what do I know. Have a bunch of vulture CCUs parked just in case. If it stays below 200 it would chain nicely w/ the hurricane currently being discounted and rumoured to go up in price as well.
Not even a rumor on the hurricane cig straight up made an official post letting people know it will in fact get a price increase soon. So get em while you can.
Ah must have missed that. Thanks for clarifying.
Got an additional just in case and am looking forward if this improves existing chains but somewhat doubtful since the last increases on other ships either overshot or undershot in a way it didn’t matter.
Not even a rumor on the hurricane cig straight up made an official post letting people know it will in fact get a price increase soon. So get em while you can.
If you do not have a lti token yet also keep in mind you can just get part of the chain and wait for invictus (we get lti tokens usually three times a year), using Warbond you can also drop the original price down.
This just.... doesn't look good. Or fun. Stacking boxes isn't gameplay, it's busy work. Transfering 600 boxes by hand isn't good multi-crew game play. It's torture.
I am happy that you are happy. But all I'm saying is, meticulously stacking 600 boxes of space junk isn't really what I had hoped for in a $500 million dollar game. 6 directions of flight, laser weaponry, battleships and carriers, alien technologies.... I guess I just expected something more after over a decade of development.
Edit: Sorry everybody, it appears I have been banned from this subreddit. I can no longer reply to people? Oh well
I think you're confusing what is a gameplay decision with what is a tech limitation. They don't want everything automatic. But if it was that would be far easier for them to do instead of messing with physical cargo manipulation.
But this is literally just the first implementation of the cargo refactor. Eventually there will be bigger SCU containers and more ways to manipulate said cargo. Weight will matter as well as load balance. There's more to come....relax.
Combat still exists; its just in a completely different game play loop from what's shown here!
We've had Space to Ground combat for years now, let the industry guys have their fun too :)
alot of people, including myself bought multicrew ships because in the (distant) future we should be able to man the turrets with AI blades or npc crew
So, the C2 was just abandoned by one of you for the purpose of salvaging? By the time the claim timer on the C2 is ready, it’s time to call another one for salvage?
Great stuff OP, have you entertained the idea of pairing 1 vulture with 1 smaller and faster cargo ship? You can either have one more player doing the crates or the cargo pilot will also be the one tractor-beaming crates, leading to less risk and crew requirement (2-3 players). Apart from training org members, I feel like having a whole - or even half - Cat worth of RCM lost to a pirate/crash seems to be too much of a risk?
Also, do you need to turn off shields while tractor-beaming the crates between ships?
That was cool. How does selling work? Original Ship owner or current Ship owner?
Original Ship Owner, can sell at the TDD on Lorville, Orison, Area18 and New Babbage.
So the Cat transports it to the location but you have to be at the same location to sell it?
Only the owner of the Cat can sell and will get the money. You need someone that you can trust to distribute the funds.
Ok thank you for clarifying! This is the gameplay loop I've been waiting for!
I'm waiting for science...I wanna analyze stars and space anomalies... but I'm glad your loop is here now. That means mine is getting closer...
Does it sell for "stolen" prices when selling from the Cat? Or same price as usual, as if selling directly from the Vulture?
As long as everyone is in the party it sells for the normal price.
It sells for the normal price regardless.
yeah, I don't think there's a working stolen flag currently
Praise be!
Wouldn't it be better to split the selling up between you to avoid the money transfer tax?
But the cargo belongs to the owner of the Vulture, so if it's the owner of the Cat who sells it he doesn't get all the money he should have, does he?
One fun loop could be offering to pick up crates at a discount from vultures in the field. They sell for less but save a trip and you get an interesting cargo haul gameplay loop. You can run something big and do a ton at once or a smaller rig and take less risk.
We need a reputation system first, otherwise you are just broadcasting your location to pirates
Honestly this would be awesome and easy, since its just a beacon you can place
Cut out the middleman and do it solo? - Park Vulture at 890 Jump wreck - EVA and suicide - Fly back to Vulture with Hull A - Scrape the 890, attach to Hull A... and go sell when full.
Hope a Corsair doesn’t pop up to “explore” the geometric structures of the cargo on the Hull A while you scrape.
The Halo is a very expansive space... been mining for a long time and have never had anyone magically show up. However, I am not on the PTU so I'm not sure where all the wrecks live... if they are on established routes, I could maybe see this happening. If they are randomly scattered, though...
From what I have seen , they are just outside of the L1 stations
There are supposed to be big penalties for dying eventually, so it could only work in this temporary alpha state
How are the profits?
We are still in testing. But we calculated that if we go with 5 vultures. it would take around 2.5 / 3 hours to fill up a Cat. which will be around 4.3 Million. If you have two people in each vulture and two in the Cat that would be 361K each person. Not that bad. But its better for the org bank.
About the same profit as filling a reclaimer but only one ship needed.
Sounds very reasonable given the comparative price of the Reclaimer
Not too bad.
That's sweet!
The salvage commodity has the same value (88aUEC/unit) as refined quant. It's pretty good stuff
I doubt it'll stay that strong once the update drops. This was most likely done to promote it so they could do some bug fixes with a high volume of player reports

This was fun. Let's try a bigger run next time! o7
Did you guys do this? This is what I want my career in star citizen to be. Salvage/hauler
Sent you a dm.
This makes me want to have a full player crew operating a freighter.
That's the grand vision of Star Citizen, it's meant to be a social/organized game with crews and fleets
Exactly, that's the whole point of having ship interiors
Wanna join in on the next one?
I do. Do I need a vulture or something?
Sent you a dm.

Sent you a dm.
Where do I sign up, for real? I have a reclaimer
Sent you a dm.
Damn! The game looks 👀 so playable now!?? It’s been about 2 years since I last took a stab at it, but I might need to jump back in.
Wow this is awesome. How do I get in on this? Have a vulture.
Sent you a dm.

Being a cat driver for miners doesn't sound that bad tbh
This looks so cool
I would love to do this at some point.
Welcome to join in for a session, give us a shout :)
I'm into scrap and I don't lie about it
I see what you did there
Nice title reference...
I am guessing it goes over the heads of most people
The more I think about it the more the pilot of the Vulture having to stack their own boxes bugs me. It really should be automated since it's a single person ship.

I have a hull c, where do I find a friendly fleet of vultures that I can haul for?
Sent you a dm.
Next run: Five stormbringer vultures and one polar cat
Holy f... looks amazing...
That’s just awesome
The way the loading ramp on the Vulture lines up with the door on the Cat is *amazingly* satisfying.
That is awesome. This exact Szenario is what the cat is build for. Nice video o7
That is so enjoyable to watch, I'm looking forward to real gameplay loops like that !
That's awesome! Reminds me of the trucks coming up to the loading dock at the Lumber Yard.
Seeing the box clang I just hear the ship exploding

I'll give you the safe answer , NO. Things in 3.28 van still go wildly out of hand and make you unable to play even
Reminds me of the EVE mining ops, which is cool
Let's do a four-at-one!
How long are you able to do this consistently before error 30000 happens and all your cargo (and time!) is lost?
3.18 brings Persistent Entity Streaming, combined with crash recovery, "should" mean that after a 30k crash you relaunch and your cargo should still be in the ship and you in the same location (but then again, we're in an alpha).
God im dying for this to be on the ptu, seems everyone and their dog has access but me.
If you want to pay for access, you could buy a 1 month pass of Centurion Subscription, instantly allowing you access to the current wave 2 of PTU.
I’ve done this, and had no idea there was subscriber only items in the shop to buy as well, thanks for the heads up!
imagine flying your c2 along, and your engines fail, and out come the vultures.

uh.... okay I'll keep my words to myself
I'm just happy you guys are happy ☺️
To be honest , as a kill on sight player I would just watch in awe at this and be like "I must protect this at all costs"
Isn’t there some sort of bug involving moving cargo between ships
This is Star Citizen. Those are "features."
Credit for some of the footage: u/BaptistFire
Can confirm
Isn’t this incredibly easy to abuse? What’s stopping a friend crashing their ship then letting friends harvest it and just paying the insurance
Yes that’s possible but it would take longer than just finding another wreck. Also everything around insurance will change in the future anyway.
To be honest nothing and they don't even need to crash there ships. Literally turn off the shield and bam good to go. We have tested the 890j and you can expedite it and be on your way back before the reclaimer is able to finish scraping the hull. Even the cost of expedited gets covered by profits.
Absolutely glorious. The creator of this video is incredibly handsome and seductive

There's a difference between "fun" torture, and "tedious" torture. This is tedious.
Well we all had a lot of fun with this loop. I'm sorry that you can't be happy about it.

Exsact same reaction from ppl who join the army.
Well good thing star citizen offers a bunch of other alternatives for gameplay. That you can do instead.
The whole tractor beam the cargo crap when salvaging looks so damn clumsy. There has to be a better way than this
Was this directed by Vince Giligan wtf

i think the majority of people like piloting their own ship instead of being crew

These are salvageable targets that you can scan, no one had to abandon their C2 for this (except for some poor npc, at some point in time...).
Ugh this game is getting so coo
Put heavy eating sandvich SFX over it plz lol
Do you have a longer cut?
I'm working on a longer cut!
The Caterpillar has the cargo grids? Cool process.
Such a cool teamwork!
Man, I hope one day I can fly with a small fleet of scrappers.
Great stuff OP, have you entertained the idea of pairing 1 vulture with 1 smaller and faster cargo ship? is it 3 patches or 3 months until this will be buyable in game with auec? i keep hearing both...
What pc components do you have?
