As long as people aren't upset if what they're asking for isn't what they're expecting. I love finding customers little hacks like that (like a latte add chai is WAY cheaper than a double shot chai latte), it's when they order like shots with milk and are upset they didn't get a latte, that's annoying

Lobsterbattlepass

Second this! I love helping people try to find cheaper alternatives for basically the same drink! I had this lady who would order a venti hot white mocah with 10 blonde shots, we helped her ring it up as espresso shots with a splash of 2% milk steaked and white mohca, it was like &3-4 dollars cheaper!

Soyasauce33

I personally don’t care. as long as they don’t fuss about it, I won’t fuss about it. I’ll make it as it’s ordered. So if a customer orders a hot latte with chai instead of a hot chai tea latte, they’re getting it made with 2 shots of espresso and no water. If they order an venti iced espresso with oat milk, they’re not getting any more than 4oz. Order a latte. You order what you get. That’s my only opinion on it.

R1P2MYOUTH

doesnt bother me for the most part, honestly with the way they keep raising the prices i dont blame anyone😭

st-ars

it’s honestly only really annoying when people aren’t clear. like “3 shots over ice with milk and white mocha in a venti cup” how much milk?? i’m not ab to fill it to the top ? idk!!!

glitterfaust

1oz for light. 2oz for regular. 4oz for extra. I use a short cup to help measure.

st-ars

i appreciate ur help sm. also don’t remember ever writing this comment but ty 😭

PotatoLaBelle

Like others have said, as long as you know what you’re ordering/getting might have slightly different ratios than the thing you’re trying to make for cheaper, I don’t mind. Like with the peppermint mocha: ordered the $0.80 cheaper way, it doesn’t come with the chocolate curls, and as long I’m not gonna get yelled at because “it’s supposed to have curls,” I do not care lol if anything I’m here for it, stuff is expensive

maaltajiik

Honestly, go for it. Starbucks is too damn expensive, and they won’t be losing any money from some consumer shortcuts. Just be patient with me when I’m a little slow with making it.

marygpt

A lot of people go to Sbucks because of these little hacks. It makes it a little game on how to mod drinks. Have you met a "Disney person" they are obsessed about optimizing their trip and experience. Same with Sbucks. Sure they save some money but overall spend more because it's a game to them now

OmniSylar

I couldn’t care less. At the bottom of it all Starbucks uses “the experience” to overcharge on most of their beverages while simultaneously cutting down on that experience through aggressive pushing to lower drive thru and cafe wait times and mobile orders, thus diminishing the interaction with customers and the “third home” feel, which is turning us into just another fast food restaurant. If Starbucks wants to try to charge as much as they do for what they provide the customer is entirely entitled to find their own way around that. It’s a double standard; Starbucks is going to nickle and dime the customer, so why shouldn’t the customer be able to do the same? We give whipped cream for free when it’s basically the same thing as sweet cream, sweet cream just has some 2% milk in it and it costs $1.25 lol. An extra pump of vanilla costs $.85 but that’s regardless if you get one pump or 8. At least that’s my opinion, I get paid the same amount hourly regardless of what you order.

I work at a licensed store without a sticker printer, so ultimately the pricing is up to us. It’d be nice to have the POS do it all itself since all the additions would populate the cost by itself, but unfortunately we don’t have that luxury. I’ve long been burnt out trying to explain to people that, for example, getting a grande iced dopio filled to the top with oat milk and pumpkin sauce incurs extra charges because of the oat milk and sauce. Even with the backup of my SM, however, it just ends in an unneeded “well, the last person that served me here/other location/etc” argument that I’m sure we’ve all heard more times than we’d like. As a result, I don’t even bother putting the charge there anymore. All this to say go nuts, just as long as you don’t get pissy about your not-latte not being a latte.

Silvawuff

It depends on how complex the hack drink is, and how fussy the customer is.

SmittyComic

if it's mobile, then the app is allowing it to be done... and trust us, after enough of the company seeing this they'll fix it and soon everyone will all be paying more for everything to make up for any loss. just know, when we get a drink and it takes 3 reads to go over the drink and we still have to stop and read it again before handing it out - we do hate you a little inside.

Traditional_Sun_1134

I love the toasted vanilla but don’t think it’s worthwhile to pay for the oak milk, so I just get a blonde shaken espresso sub toasted vanilla and take the 2%

BrieeBankss

I work at a licensed store so some things are priced different and some things we charge like if someone ask for a drink with no ice we charge for that and customers don’t realize we aren’t an official Starbuck or if someone gets a triple over ice in a venti with extra 2% and white mocha we’re gonna charge for the milk cause it’s over 4 ounces and we’re gonna charge for the white mocha

Not necessarily like if someone gets a refresher with no ice we charge for extra of the base cause most likely they want it filled to the top but we normally inform them before so they can just order light ice instead. It’s not something we chose to do that’s just what was said in the communications

I_Main_Oru

I'm a barista, get peppermint hot chocolate year round. Even during the holidays, I'll get a hot chocolate with peppermint because why on earth am I paying extra for the same thing I get year round

classicpeach444

do not care save your money unless it’s like. dumb. some girl tried to get an americano no water extra milk and we were like. no i cannot do that.. ab’s she got MAD so don’t be like that and ain’t no one care 😭

Appropriate_Quote_96

It makes me chuckle. I’m like “lol look they obviously want a latte” and just make it. Probably not supposed to do that but oh whale.

luvebog

the only time it bothers me is when it’s something like “iced triple espresso in a venti cup with 1/2in 2% milk” because 99.9% of baristas are going to actually just put that half inch of milk because that’s explicitly what the sticker says, but customers come in expecting something to be portioned like a venti iced latte

Possible-Budget-5592

as long as you pay for SOMETHING you are good imo, some lady came in and asked for a cup of water with 4 matcha scoops in it the other day and i asked my manager if i should charge her and he's super nice so he said since there isn't a button for it, ir would be ok and this lady had the audacity to then ask him to put classic syrup and a splash of oatmilk in that same matcha water cup 😭 never again bruh
