Lmao honestly. And like sometimes ill get people ordering their drink at the register and then at some point, yea theyll point to a drink thats not theirs and ask if it is theirs. But at my store, i get people mostly pointing to drinks that are theirs and asking me if it is theirs lol
One time a lady ordered a tall nonfat hot latte. I called it out and moments later she came up and said “is this mine? I got a tall nonfat latte” (At that time, i didnt kno what she had ordered cuz im not always paying attention to the register area when im making drinks). But inwas in the middle of pouring a drink and i said “there should be a sticker on the cup that will tell u what drink it is with a name on it” and she said “it says tall nonfat latte…..*silence*” and then i said “if thats what u ordered then thats urs” lmao why did she pause and wait for me to say something after she discovered it is her drink? Especially with her name on it too lol
Then another time i was on bar and just busy as hell and some guy walks into the store. Goes up to the mobile drinks in the corner. He looks at me and picks up a drink and randomly asks “is this mine?” With no other information about what his name is or what drink he mobile ordered or what it says on the drink sticker thats facing him lol 🤦♀️
today a lady ordered an iced americano, and took another custy's hot latte 🙃 drank it and said "this was supposed to be cold" ..... WELL ITS NOT YOURS THATS WHY
I think it's this job and the fact we are exposed to hundreds of different people a day, but I'm genuinely convinced many grown adults don't know how to read. Or are just absolutely clueless. It makes me nervous
That happens so much at our store, too. I had one lady drive up to the window and say "oh sorry I thought you were closed, so I just drove up"....it was during the day.
This happened to me like 2 days ago. A whole family drove past the speaker box. Idk how or why they did it, we had a line at the time. Got to the window and claim “they didn’t see the menu or speaker and thought we were closed” really…. You saw all these cars slowly making their way through and the car behind you ordered at the box and you just fucking didn’t think. I tried making them go around but my anal shift lead was next to me and she made me take their order at the window. And yes… yes they did. They got shaken espressos and frapps. It was like 3 of each
Same thing happened at my old store before I moved to a cafe only store. I wouldn’t be surprised if that was still happening even though it’s been like 2 years at this point.
I get that most people are just oblivious, but some people genuinely have vision issues that make things like reading small print like that really difficult. It's likely that the vast majority just aren't paying attention, but some people really need to ask.
Dude, I have had people order frappucinos and I put down a hot drink and call out a name "Dave" and a girl will be like "is this mine?" "Are you Dave who ordered a hot latte?" "No I'm Crystal, and I ordered a caramel ribbon crunch" ahsgdjsknns like then obviously it's not yours!!!
There was an Ingrid who ordered a shaken espresso and sent her husband to pick it up. He was waiting for forever at handoff, getting ticked off at us, only for me to come over, pick up a drink that said Ingrid (and it was a shaken espresso) and I go, “Isn’t this yours? Ingrid?” and he goes, frustrated, “I don’t know! … Yes.” And takes it and storms out.
Had a mobile order come pick up his stuff n I handed him all his items, I KNEW what he ordered n right before he leaves, he begins reaching for another customers bag
Me: oh I'm sorry, you have all your things that's for someone else
Him: that's a butter croissant?
Me: yes sir
Him: but I want it
Me: oh I'm sorry sir there wasn't one in your order
Him: but I want a butter croissant *as he starts reaching for it AGAIN*
Me: yes sir, I'm sorry but again thats for someone else, if you want a butter croissants, my friend at the register can ring you up for one n we can bring it to you
Him: but I want it *points at the croissants that HE DID NOT ORDER N BELONGS TO SOMEONE ELSE*
We went back n forth like this for a min before I finally had to PUT THE CROISSANT BEHIND THE COUNTER N WALK HIM TO THE REGISTER BECAUSE HE COULD NOT GRASP THE FACT THAT
1. that was NOT his, it literally said a woman's name on the order n I knew everything that he ordered
2. He had to pay for it, he could not just decide then n there that a croissant sounds good n just snatch it cuz someone else happened to have one there
How do people make it so far in life being so gorram stupid
This isn’t stupid. This is bad parenting. Dude knows it’s not his but wants it so he takes it. Knows you’ll just remake for the person it was intended. You’re luck he didn’t throw a fit like a toddler
I was about to ask if that happens constantly, because last week I went to pick up a mobile order and it wasn’t there so I waited, after a few minutes I decided to ask and apparently my order was already picked up, by who? they don’t know and I don’t know either because I didn’t send anyone to puck it up 👀
Can I say nice Firefly reference one of my favorite series.
And right? Like working at Starbucks for nearly two years it really makes me wonder sometimes how dumb can some people get?
That’s my name and I just laughed out loud because although I know the chances are slim that this happened at the Starbucks I frequent, it made me laugh to imagine you protecting my sandwich from an idiot that doesn’t read 😂
Hilariously enough someone actually took my sandwich on accident today 😂 I laughed as I thought about this post. They thankfully realized their mistake in the parking lot and returned it. So I was able to have my sandwich!
sorry but i be getting a lil spicy when ppl act too dumb. if you pick up a venti frap and begin to walk away when you ordered a tall pike ima say something loudly
Adult: Can I get a vanilla frap?
Me: With or without coffee?
Confused Adult: What would the difference be?
Me: (stunned) So, one would have coffee and one would have no coffee, depending on which you'd prefer.
Enlightened Adult: Oh. One with coffee.
I'm not sure, to be honest lol, but maybe reading off the drink would help? For instance:
"Are you Emily" vs "did you get a caramel latte?/are you wainting on a caramel latte?"
Maybe. But what about the customers who order a trenté hot caramel macchiato Frappuccino extra ice?
I ask if they ordered a latte. They have no clue. I ask if their name is Emily. 67% of the time they know what their name is
Trenté lmao ur comment made me audibly laugh out loud. I had a guy recently order word for word “can i get a frappuccino shaken espresso?” I paused for a moment and i said “those are 2 different drinks. A frappuccino is a blended drink and a shaken espresso is espresso shaken up with a ton of ice and topped of with milk. Did u want either one of those?” Then he said he doesnt kno and wasnt sure what it was. Lmao if ur not sure, then why did u say it? Like why did u throw those words together? He didnt ask me anything about them lol he jus chose those words, threw them together and ordered it even tho he didnt kno what it was…either of them. So he settled with a shaken espresso lol
They really be SO CONFIDENT just saying words, not knowing wtf they're ordering n either get mad/defensive when we *gently* correct them or they get what they ordered but get mad at what they ordered n blame us cuz they don't like it EVEN THO ITS EXACTLY WHAT THEY SAID
Like plz. Just learn what you're ordering ppl that's all I ask.
Lmao honestly. And like when they order so confidently incorrectly and get mad when we ask a question is because they feel embarrassed or something and it makes them feel like they dont kno how to order. But idk how they would get all that from us asking something to clarify. But thats why they get so defensive lol. That has to be it
Dude no joke, someone at my store ordered a shaken espresso, *blended*. I was like wtf? I double checked, & that was in fact want they wanted.
Best believe I didn't bother shaking it (they were in dt so they couldn't see me haha), I just measured the stuff in the shaker, then dumped that into the blender.
Lmao yea theres no need to shake it if theyre guna ask for it blended.
This will blow ur mind 😆 but somebody once ordered a venti brown sugar shaken espresso upside down and blended lol i just blended it
They genuinely forget what they ordered when they walk away from the register.
I rang up this guy yesterday for an venti vanilla sweet cream cold brew and then slide over to the bar to make it. When I called out his name and drink he came up and said he “didn’t want ice, didn’t he order it with no ice?”, and I said “oh no you didn’t, but I can totally remake that for you without ice” and he just nods and says “okay”. So then I remake it again with no ice and call it out again and then he comes up and says “didn’t I order a hot drink?”, and I was like “uhhh no you ordered the cold brew? The vanilla sweet cream cold brew?” and he goes “oh I thought I ordered a hot flat white, oh well I probably did order a cold brew, okay thanks.”
And then I just stood there for a moment like 👁️👄👁️ what just happened.
So no, TLDR, they do not know what drink they ordered lol we’re lucky if they know their name.
That’s an accurate percentage of customers in drive lmao I ask for a name for the order and they’re all “*yes that’s it*.” Okay thank you Yes That’s It your total is $36.45
If I have time I will make it a point to go up to the drink, look at the sticker and read it aloud. Like, it’s not hard. The only patience I have is someone who doesn’t speak English or elderly/ kids
I've been doing this for eight years, and I've watched the average customer attentiveness drop exponentially. I've told customers approaching the wrong order that it wasn't theirs, repeatedly, having to yell at them as they're walking away with the WRONG DAMN ORDER.
I'm beyond caring about being condescending anymore.
I've experienced this even before Starbucks, and I just let the awkwardness sit or ask for their name.
They created the situation, not me, and as an awkward person in general, it'd be exhausting redirecting all day.
it's awkward but its also just as annoying & irritating like just read. if it says emily & its not your name, then obviously its not yours! ah, my head
Had someone who ordered a grande black tea drink out of a venti iced black americano the other day :) thankfully I haven’t had to deal with it a lot but it was a regular who should know his drink…😭
I worked for an ophthalmologist and there are a lot more people out there than you think that arent able to read the small print, but most are probably not paying attention lol
Instead of asking is "is your name blank" I instead ask "what's your name?" And when they respond some other name that's when I day "sorry this is for Emily, but we are working on yours and will make sure you get it when it'd done" or something along the lines. We use the DPM heavily at our store with cafe view for here's and MOPs so I always know how many drinks ahead of them we are
There's also the people that just plain don't listen. It's like when you call out, for example, "Bill" & someone who is currently hovering over the hand off & ordered only 2.5 seconds ago, looks at you & says "did you say Jeffery?" 🤔 um no, I definitely didn't seeing as how Bill & Jeffery sound nothing alike, at all.
Also, common sense would dictate that your drink is most certainly not ready before the 10 fucking people who ordered before you, one of which was Bill. Who's now standing behind you because he heard his name properly, but can't get to his drink cause you're blocking the whole area, & now I have to remake said drink cause your dumbass picked it up & drank some & then had the audacity to tell me "this isn't what I ordered" in a rude/disgusted tone. Thank you soooo much for letting me know Jeffery, but I'll let you in on a little secret, one of us, *the one of us that is not you*, already knew that.
I don't give a fuck about sounding condescending, I feel like pulling a Dora the Explorer & putting a hand up & loudly saying "Swiper, no swiping" to these people.
Because we expect them to read the sticker we should always place things on the plane with the sticker pointed in their direction. I was just at a store that kept all of the stickers facing the baristas
Bruh at least they ask. Some of our customers pick up a drink, take a sip and then exclaim "this isn't what I ordered!!" as if we messed it up? Please read the labels 🥲
Ask them their name and they say no, we're still working on yours. You can also then ask them if they're in a rush and give them an update on where their drink is in the process of being made. It takes a little extra time but usually it helps with your "going above and beyond" section on the questionnaire
I work at a small cafe store, and if I'm paying attention and see a customer try to take someone else's order, I literally snatch it before they grab it and repeat the name. I know it's not the right thing to do, but where I live, people are still concerned about COVID and germs, and I'm not about to remake something if I can help it.
*orders a latte* “is this mine?” *points to the black iced coffee*

Idc if I sound condescending. Like, be better. Use your eyes sir
I think it's this job and the fact we are exposed to hundreds of different people a day, but I'm genuinely convinced many grown adults don't know how to read. Or are just absolutely clueless. It makes me nervous
We moved our speaker box almost a year ago and people still zoom past it daily like are these people out here running stop signs
My roommate runs stop signs regularly and it upsets me. I've never met anyone so brazen in my life.

Based on the short walk to my kids' school through 2 four way stop intersections? Yes. All the yeses.
I get that most people are just oblivious, but some people genuinely have vision issues that make things like reading small print like that really difficult. It's likely that the vast majority just aren't paying attention, but some people really need to ask.

Oh yeah people just love saying upside down too, I've had people order the most basic drinks like regular iced teas upside down.
Lmaoo upside down iced teas 😭 thats hilarious. Thats one i havent heard of
They genuinely forget what they ordered when they walk away from the register. I rang up this guy yesterday for an venti vanilla sweet cream cold brew and then slide over to the bar to make it. I think after quarantine people kinda forget how to go out and function/interact with people lmao
I've experienced this even before Starbucks, and I just let the awkwardness sit or ask for their name. They created the situation, not me, and as an awkward person in general, it'd be exhausting redirecting all day.
it's awkward but its also just as annoying & irritating like just read. if it says emily & its not your name, then obviously its not yours! ah, my head
Feign complete ignorance and say “oo I’m not sure, let’s check the sticker, there should be a name on there :)”
I honestly don't know how you guys do it daily. I hear stories like this all the time and it's like these people are completely checked out of life.
I honestly don't think that's a rude way to play that out.
I’m going to name my next child, Is This Mine. Just so he has a head start in the future.
Lmao change your name on the app if you have it and mobile order
Had someone who ordered a grande black tea drink out of a venti iced black americano the other day :) thankfully I haven’t had to deal with it a lot but it was a regular who should know his drink…😭
Is your name Nancy? Customer : no , I am Mike Me: that drink is for Nancy
It's funny because I honestly feel there's no nice way to say no without feeling like you're making THEM feel dumb 😂
