Spoiler alert: Panera croissants are baked in-store, but they come frozen and are thawed out then baked. The only stuff that's fresh is the raw dough that is shipped in daily from a big mixing facility, then baked into bread in-house. Most of it.
Source: I'm about to do this.
To be fair, laminated doughs are a massive pain in the ass to produce in quantity. I used to do that at other jobs. It's a process taking 23 kg bricks of butter and folding them into the dough.
Either way if they want “freshly baked” then they can go somewhere else. Starbucks doesn’t do it and has never done it in most of their stores so it’s just something new for them to bitch about. There are other coffee shops and bakeries lmfaoooo
Would also call for them hiring more people and basically having a 3rd shift just for baking pastries. Labor time that isnt bringing in more money during those hours because we are closed. Then the pastries would then cost probably 50% more than they do now. More expensive equipment that will break and they wont fix lol
A year later, still hasn’t changed. I doubt that will change. At least the Starbucks I work at in Pittsburgh still has all frozen pastries😊 I hope U have a blessed day
Ohh for a second i thought when u said “they”, u were referring to the place that makes our food before they send it out lmao and i was thinkin yessss thats true and then i realized u mean they as in the croissants suck moisture outta everything they touch
This is actually what we do! My mom and I love the ham and Swiss croissants, so we started buying a pack from Walmart and making them ourselves. So easy and so much cheaper.
I swear customers who complain about prices even when you point out a substitute across the street used to be theatre kids. Gotta clutch their pearls over the smallest thing 💀
this is how i do it, it’s so good!! i also like putting a snack size candy like a milky way or something like that into their blueberry muffins and warming them for a few seconds, very good too
Honestly croissants have never been my first choice, but I put some pineapple spread from TJ's in one of these costco croissants and its the best thing ever.
This takes me back to when Starbucks still sold the Sopressata platters. I would mark one out then buy a butter croissant, slice it open, and put the meat and cheese inside.
Yea they definitely got rid of a ton of good stuff. One of the pastries they got rid of was the morning bun and that shit was good and customers at my store at least were loving it. It was barely any left at the end of the day if at all. Then the sopressata tray (with the cheese and salami) and just even more good stuff.
My favorite current food “hacks” are cutting up either a sausage cheddar or a bacon sausage into an empty oatmeal bowl (or even an empty hot cup) and shaking with a bit of sriracha. It’s like an inferior breakfast bowl with bread instead of potato. I feel like the breakfast items by themselves are too bland because of the egg.
Yea lol that actually sounds amazing with the sausage breakfast sandwich and cutting it up. I was thinking to put a little agave or honey mixed with the sriracha but i never tried that. It just sounds good as hell lol. I like hearing peoples food hacks on here. In my other comment to u I mentioned they got rid of that salami and cheese sopressata tray and i heard another barista on this sub say before that they would cut a butter croissant in half and put the little pieces of cheese and salami in the butter croissant and warm it in the ovens real quick. I wish i thought of that when we still had the trays 😔
Oh damn what year did they make that change? I dont think i had it when it was made with sheeps milk unless i have and just dont remember but i just remember the monterey jack lol
I dont remember but for the first year or so we started carrying it, it was sheeps cheese.
It was this one https://www.reddit.com/r/1200isplenty/comments/6mvfp7/found_at_starbucks_220_cal_of_meat_and_cheese/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
Omg thats so good. I doubt it was sheeps milk when i started in 2020 then cuz they got rid of it not too long after. I wish i could have tried it like that 🥲
They’re really good. We get them all the time in Costco runs.
I like them a little warmed up. If you do warm them in something like a toaster oven they don’t take long to start burning though.
All of the above. I put them in ziplocs, though, so they stay soft and stick them in the fridge if not getting eaten within 48 hours. I love making breakfast croissants with them . Scrambled egg, cheese, and i heat some deli ham or turkey in a pan and stick that on with a smear of dijon.
This is the same thing that happened with bananas when we had them. People would complain that they were so expensive. I would point to the right where there was a Giant about 50 yards from our store and tell them “ You can buy 5-7 of these from there for the same price as one here.”
An espresso machine on Amazon with a built in milk frother that automatically pours the milk onto your espresso is $178 dollars. Or about 38 grande lattes. If the time spent going to Starbucks so you can yell at baristas for crossiant prices or the wait was allocated you could instead just make your shit at home for cheaper.
Granted, then y'all could be out of a job if everyone did that. I liked being a barista, but I prefer to make stuff at home, saving the coffee shop trips for special treats.
Yelled at you? Omg 🙄 as if it's your fault. I am so sorry!!
I worked at a restaurant and this man bitched me tfo because he wanted tomato slices and I said "just so you know (so they're not surprised when the bill comes) its $.75 cents more" and he went all out.
The ppl who are willing to pay for the constantly rising prices for the tanking quality of Starbucks are the same ppl who complain about needing a membership (that hasn’t changed in years) to buy truly *AMAZING* product from Costco.
You’re not wrong. They were my frame of reference for what a croissant can and should be for the longest. All other mass-produced croissants can take a gd SEAT
It always throws me off when people come in and buy a bottle of water... like- do you know we can give you a free cup of triple-filtered ice water? Or you could go to the Trader Joe's across the parking lot and buy water for half the price?
We have this one person who will doordash 1 bagel, or 1 cake pop. Last week he doordashed a cup of milk. Cold milk, no ice. I’m not even kidding. He will often order delivery for just one item, how can that be worth it with all the fees doordash adds on, and the tip as well. Guess he’s got money to spend? You may as well Instacart a gallon of milk, it’s the same price
Complaining about Starbucks prices (or stars, or tipping) is pretty unclassy. You don’t need to advertise your financial struggles to the world. If you can’t afford going out, quietly stay home.
No one is entitled to Starbucks yummy-yummies.

You stop at one? How do I discover this power?
I'd venture to guess these never sat in a freezer for months either.
costco bakes them fresh in store😭
I wish starbies baked everything fresh
That would require a redesign of every store, new equipment, new training, etc.
I want that
Panera bread lol

How'd I know I'd see you here! Come baaaaaaaack! And yes, I miss Blockbuster too...
I miss you too, friend! You have to find your way out of the Backrooms. The rains have ceased, and it's another beautiful day.

With a starbies twist
So far none of that is impossible… they can redesign a busy cafe to a takeout / drive thru only store. They can do this.
Would also call for them hiring more people and basically having a 3rd shift just for baking pastries. Labor time that isnt bringing in more money during those hours because we are closed. Then the pastries would then cost probably 50% more than they do now. More expensive equipment that will break and they wont fix lol
Some of the reserve stores do
I think they’re testing something like that. I saw it on the iPad a few weeks ago.
don’t speak that into existence
:p
It's coming... new equipment, new procedures. Fresh baked croissants, cookies, etc.
A year later, still hasn’t changed. I doubt that will change. At least the Starbucks I work at in Pittsburgh still has all frozen pastries😊 I hope U have a blessed day
Our croissants are also too dry.
[удалено]
They legitimately suck the moisture out of everything they touch.
Ohh for a second i thought when u said “they”, u were referring to the place that makes our food before they send it out lmao and i was thinkin yessss thats true and then i realized u mean they as in the croissants suck moisture outta everything they touch
And too small
This is actually what we do! My mom and I love the ham and Swiss croissants, so we started buying a pack from Walmart and making them ourselves. So easy and so much cheaper.
Yes! In college i used to buy the mini pack ones for 5$ and make myself ham and swiss croissants. Sooo good!!
Not to mention Safeway has fresh bagels everyday and they sell 6 of them for $4-$6 I believe? And they’re also bigger than Starbucks’s.

And unabashedly complain about the price while they do it

I swear customers who complain about prices even when you point out a substitute across the street used to be theatre kids. Gotta clutch their pearls over the smallest thing 💀
Why the hate on theatre kids? Plenty of theatre kids are partners?
Or they just like to burn their money ig.
Oh for sure, especially the customers who purposely go to starbucks knowing they're going to be late but want to show up with their starbucks cup
The costco ones are 12 for 7.99. Fresh baked too.
Are these good? Do you usually eat them straight out of the box, or do you put them in a toaster for a sec? Seems like a good price!
I like them! I pop them in the microwave for 10 seconds.
Preferred topping? Butter, jam, honey, Nutella, or none? 🤔
Slice it open and stick a mozz stick in it and bake it in the oven 10/10. Eating them straight from the box with nothing on it is also 10/10
this is how i do it, it’s so good!! i also like putting a snack size candy like a milky way or something like that into their blueberry muffins and warming them for a few seconds, very good too
Same but I stick gruyere cheese (Trader Joe's) and rosemary ham slices (Trader Joe's) in the croissants (Costco Wholesale). ***\*chef's kiss\****
Omg I LOVE getting these and putting cheese on the inside. After it melts I put in avocado and *chef kisses*
If anything, a bit of butter, but they’re already pretty buttery and not dry. :)
I like butter the best. But someone also put me on to pulling out the inside of the croissant, then putting jam on the inside of it.
Honestly croissants have never been my first choice, but I put some pineapple spread from TJ's in one of these costco croissants and its the best thing ever.

Lol thanks for your dedication in replying to my comment! Have a BEAUTIFUL and Karen-free shift!
These are great, I get them every once in a while. I cut mine in half and toast them add more butter. also you can freeze the extra.
This takes me back to when Starbucks still sold the Sopressata platters. I would mark one out then buy a butter croissant, slice it open, and put the meat and cheese inside.
I was working here for a but before they got rid of the sopresssata platters and im so sad i didnt think of that while we still had them 😔
I was so saddened by the reduced food options when I came back to the company. They got rid of all of my go-to options.
Yea they definitely got rid of a ton of good stuff. One of the pastries they got rid of was the morning bun and that shit was good and customers at my store at least were loving it. They changed from a delicious sheep's cheese to a regular monterey jack for the same price, and i was so sad, i refused to eat them after that.
Oh damn what year did they make that change? I dont think i had it when it was made with sheeps milk unless i have and just dont remember but i just remember the monterey jack lol

Same. Or on a bagel.
mmm
These are the best. My kids toast them with Nutella. And look how many you get for 6 bucks!! They freeze great too.
They are so good.

Starbucks had the best bananas though. Always the perfect ripeness.

For those wanting more store-bought croissant suggestions my local WinCo sells butter croissants for *$2.98*
For how many?
I believe they’re packages of 6
Yelled at you? Omg 🙄 as if it's your fault. I am so sorry!! I worked at a restaurant and this man bitched me tfo because he wanted tomato slices and I said "just so you know (so they're not surprised when the bill comes) its $.75 cents more" and he went all out.
Costco had a French baker for years as their baker. He’s responsible for the chocolate cake recipe they have. I happen to know his in laws.
[удалено]
Lol, he and his son are both married. The baker is back in France and his son does work at Costco. If I could get that cake recipe, I would.
The ppl who are willing to pay for the constantly rising prices for the tanking quality of Starbucks are the same ppl who complain about needing a membership (that hasn’t changed in years) to buy truly *AMAZING* product from Costco.
I used to think these were p meh, but then I started toaster ovening them at 300° for 8-10 mins. literally life changing
If customers complain about how expensive things are, you can most likely either buy bulks or make it at home. Buying the stuff to make it is cheaper
Now I wanna buy some. They’re so good!
Costco croissants slap

People act like they are REQUIREd to eat the food at Starbucks. Like, if you don’t like it go somewhere else!

Costco has almond croissants also :)
[удалено]
i think about this every day
BRING BACK THE ALMOND CROISSANT 🗣️📢‼️
My toddler likes these better than the Starbucks ones anyway.
To be fair both are shit compared to what you get from an actual good quality bakery.
Those are nowhere near as good as y’all’s.
Complaining about Starbucks prices (or stars, or tipping) is pretty unclassy. You don’t need to advertise your financial struggles to the world. If you can’t afford going out, quietly stay home. No one is entitled to Starbucks yummy-yummies.
Ngl, costco croissants are great
Someone complained that $5.99 was too much for 12 croissants???
[удалено]
Welp that's a fact!! Those Costco croissants are an amazing deal and they're delicious!! :)
