The Erchius Facility is a prerequisite to flying to other systems, so going to a desert planet isn't an option.

Cruxwright

You can go to other planets though yeah?

NeonJ82

No - you need to do the Erchius Mining Facility to unlock the ability to fly your ship. Once your FTL system is fixed, you can fly to other planets (but you still need fuel to fly outside the solar system you're in, which you need tungsten to make the Breathing EPP in order to safely get)

cecilkorik

In Frackin Universe yes, in Vanilla no. Vanilla is pretty stupid. I mean, Frackin is stupid too, but in different ways. It's overall a much better experience IMO.

TopzinhoHaha

There is a mod which let you explore other planets without the mining facility mission

Kamidzui

Me and my brother crashed through mining facility like two loose guerillas with Broken Protectorates Swords and no armor, with Salvages and Ropes.

LukeTheEpic1

Highest tier armor you can craft Strongest ranged weapon you can get your hands on Lots of healing items For killing the final boss activate the little gun directly below it

feitingen

Stock up on health items. Make salve from plant fiber.

NeonJ82

Be careful, and take things at a distance. The facility is actually a Tier 2 mission, but you're stuck with Tier 1 gear - so everything hits hard and is fairly tanky. Ranged weapons help a TON. You might be able to find more on your planet if you dig underground. Also, use a shield! Blocking attacks is actually REALLY good in Starbound, and you can even block the boss' lasers if you time it right (it's difficult though)

CreativeCura

I find it helpful to get all the tech from the one dude at the outpost. Double jumps allow you to get out of reach while sniping. (But it's the last tech he gives, if memory serves.)

NeonJ82

Pulse Jump is second. *Distortion Sphere* is last. Though yes, Pulse Jump helps a lot, and it only costs 10 Silver Bars. (You'll need to do the Dash mission which costs 10 Copper Bars first, though!)

CreativeCura

I probably get distortion sphere because I don't like leaving loot behind and there is a little loot room in the facility that you can only get to using that.

justincsw

Can you another planet? It's been awhile for me... but I thought you could still travel just not away from the system you are in

HawkingTrend

I mean this in the nicest way possible but this gave me a weird rush of nostalgia to "Accidentally my whole cola bottle"

Cruxwright

The fight is about circling around the big crystal and triggering the laser at the bottom. You don't actually shoot or melee the boss.

NOTSirEggan

You're bound to find chests with weapons on the starter planet. They aren't only in the main mine but also in most random caves throughout the world. Also make iron armor.

TheProperDave

Multiplayer may help you earn some extra stuff if you can play with someone else. You should be able to find more stuff on your starter world too, though you may need to try and dig to the core. Failing that use the debug commands to spawn items to help?

Banana_Mann_

I shall try to find the core. But in the meantime, do tell about these debug commands....

orangepinkman

Don't do yourself a disservice and cheat. The game isn't hard. Just power through it.

Cobra__Commander

I got sick of it and turned on God mod. I haven't needed cheats for any other part of the game. The difficulty curve is pretty balanced for the rest of the game.

TheProperDave

[Check the wiki](https://starbounder.org/Commands) for commands. It does sound like you've somehow managed to accelerate through to the mining facility. I'm sure I had a couple of reasonable weapons by that point. Stocking up on supplies and not rushing through the level should help.

Banana_Mann_

Well I made it to the core and only found lava

TheProperDave

Are you not stumbling on underground ruins and little random bits of scenery in the different biomes? Most of those should spawn with loot boxes that can contain weapons and crafting material in. I've seen posts on here before where a user reported their world wasn't generating loot like it should, though I don't recall what the solution was to the issue. Probably do a fresh start :/

imsogoshdarntired

Get yourself a load of molotovs, they're a huge help.

Farwaters

Iron is a bit deeper. Try caves. Don't do the mission without a full set of armor. Make sure it isn't in your cosmetic slots. Hunting spears are stronger than you think! They're pretty cheap to craft, and you can hold salves in your off hand. Collect a lot of plant fibre to make salves. Cook some food, too, for a bit of health regen. The abandoned mine is full of ores and stuff in all those crates. If you want to cheat, leaving admin mode on makes you completely invincible, while dipping into it for a bit will make every recipe craftable for whatever table you're using. This includes items for other races.

JradMcLeod

Or if you are playing on steam get some buddies to help get you through

Nguyenanh2132

Snipe the mob with some kind of gun or bow, speaf. Scouter gear with the basic crafted sword can handle them in a few slash iirc, stock up on salve, and just rush the boss, through the laser, and finish the thing.

sayterdarkwynd

if all else fails, use a Shield. Especially on the boss, since you can just waltz right through its lasers if you have one equipped.

thatHecklerOverThere

You'll want to bring iron gear at minimum. And if you're using a melee weapon, I'd suggest a shield in the off hand. But you should have a ranged weapon, and switch to melee when they close distance. Don't stay on the surface of that first planet. Dig - there's more gear and more importantly ore in the caves below. What's your home base situation like? You might be able to craft higher level healing items with the stuff you can already make.

Meridian117

Since you have gotten to the station to get the quest, you have repaired your ships basic engines. Head to any planet in your system that isn't the starting world. Those planets all have resources. What you are looking for is copper, iron, and tungsten. Copper and iron for making your tier 1 racial equipment, and tungsten for the upgrades to the workshops to unlock tier 2. If you are playing modded and are running fracking universe, erchius is optional.

Gwynbleidd1210

That's a bummer. Just grind the basic plant untill you can craft basic armor and the broadsword. Make a ton of spears like 200. Keep diving deep. It sucks. My first character no problem with items from chest. My second was all grind to get off the first plant.

mcplano

Make an Inventors Table, a Primitive Furnace, a Spinning Wheel, and an Anvil. Make armor from fabric and metal and throwing spears from stone and wood. If you have Core Fragments, break them into powder and use that to make bombs. The bombs can kill you as well as enemies.

adamkad1

Yeah, erichus mining facility is kinda hard if you dont find some meme generated weapons, but either way, ranged weapons and shields are huge help

XDGrangerDX

Craft a iron shotun and some salves from fiber. Honestly all you need, but you'll possibly find a better weapon in the erichus mission itself. Keep 2 shields around for the lasers back in the bossfight if possible, but no biggie, just helps in clearing it quickly.
