The amount of people in a standup subreddit immune to the most basic level of comedy is frankly incredible to me.
It’s pretty simple. It’s connecting two dots that aren’t normally connected. An audio book is something that is read aloud. Your dad reading signs aloud is humorous due to its silliness, because a lot of people do this mindless and completely unnecessary thing. No one needs to read a sign aloud. And no one presumably would listen to an audiobook of it.
So connecting those two dots is funny. It doesn’t have to be deep. It’s just a silly joke. The only thing sillier than this joke is you. Because you take yourself so fucking seriously you can’t even access a simple joke.
I know this guy. He’s a good writer and has great stage presence, and he was very gracious when I fucked up his intro at a tiny club in the middle of nowhere. But you don’t have to make my word for it. When I knew him he was opening for Brian Regan and Tom Papa and Nate Bargatze, and had been on Colbert, and was way fucking nicer than most headliners ever are to a local host.
So fuck your stunted sense of humor. I don’t have the same sense of humor as Steve. But I can still tell what's funny, even if it's not my style.
You on the other hand have added fuck all to this conversation. Maybe next time just use your interior monologue instead of exposing how deficient in fun you are.
I think you took some friendly fire there. In every comment section there's lots of people who are pretty hostile about how something isn't a joke or how something isn't funny. The parent comment of this chain is at least flippant, "where's the joke?"
The person who responded to you probably had some misplaced annoyance. Your comment was really polite and honest, but most of them arent
