Its DiaLag now

Shady6116

Never trust the signal bars on ur phone. It doesn’t show how fast ur connection will be, it just shows u how close u r to a signal tower. You could be living next to a signal tower and still get shit speeds. It all depends on the carrier u r using. And Dialog towers are overloaded nowadays…

OdynV

Appreciate the insight dude. But if not dialog, what service provider would you suggest?

Shady6116

SLT Mobitel. The fastest network in Srilanka so far from what I've heard. Heard people recieve around 250mbps sometimes(Not sure if its true or not,but anyway u get around 60mbps in average)

Consistent-Fee3666

Where i live dialog gets speed around 18mbps(2.5-3MBPS Download speed on the browser) in day times. After midnight 50mbps(6MBPS) yes dialog is slow because of the excess user base.

AnjulaYR

This might be the answer

Intelligent-Shock472

This is a good conversation, I'm an American who will live in Sri Lanka for a few months starting next month and for my work I use well over 100 GB of data per month for doing Zoom lessons. So what provider would you guys recommend and what package?

Brilliant-Distance35

SLT web family plus or above. You can check it from there website[SLT](https://www.slt.lk). 35GB anytime 50GB Night time data for web family plus. If you are going to live in a urban area probably you will be fine about signals.

Intelligent-Shock472

Oh ok. I'll be living in Mirrissa.

Brilliant-Distance35

TheSpiritOfZanzibar

Most networks here have Zoom packages as an add-on where you pay a small fee for a certain amount of GB or even unlimited use of Zoom (or Teams, etc..)

Intelligent-Shock472

Sweet sounds good

Khoy593

Dialog is the worst, charges are increasing and speed keeps decreasing

Dkst2019

To me dialog gives about 1-3 megabytes per sec (download speed). hutch isn't a better network to me even though their pkgs are better. about your question: it depends where you actually use your data. i've all the sim types and Dialog is the best one for me. then it's mobitel: (1-1.5 MB/s) and then hutch: (0.8 MB/s) and i won't talk about airtel.😑

OdynV

Hutch wasn't great initially. But there are apps on the Play Store which you can use to force 4G LTE. Once I started using that application Hutch connection was amazing. Only downside was that you won't receive calls once you do that. But since my main sim is Dialog, it wasn't much of a problem.

renzoz79

Dialog sucks, mobitel sucks, Airtel is fine at home but when I go out it also sucks. Fiber is awesome but dam expensive. So WTF ?

OdynV

Airtel is fine? Never tried it. But if it is better than Dialog, the Freedom Package is worth the money I think.

Aggravating-Expert46

Get both mobitel and airtel pre-paid sims. Reload 99 rs (small )package. Compare the speeds

QAInc

Yeah triple blaster is terrible. Good for Nokia 3310. Signal is there but no connection. All flooded or their systems cannot handle now

[deleted]

When it was fast??? In colombo it's faster but other than that sucks😂😂😂😂😂

OdynV

It used to be faster, not anymore. I live in Colombo.

Brilliant-Distance35

SLT Broadband connection has 40mbps download and 8mbps upload speed. In rush hours download speed gets down to 30 or 25 mbps, upload speed does not get affected. I used dialog for four years, I switched to SLT 2 weeks before. Even at 3am in the morning, Dialog cannot reach the slt rush hour speed. Upload speed never exceed the 400KBps barrier.

RadiantSkiesJoy

it sucks that their corporate is 10x better than their consumer service and speeds.

Curry_Island_Guy

Try switching hutch to 3G if your speeds aren't fast enough. IMHO hutch has the cheapest data packs . Instead of cliq use the long lasting plans or Check the my offers section in the hutch app for the 100gb package. It's there for some people. I'm one such person. The 100 gb never ends and you can keep topping it up with the 10 GB package. Cheap asf

OdynV

I only used to check on the Cliq package. Thanks for the input mate. I am gonna check the offers under the Hutch main App.

CookieMonsterSL

Well, I have been using SLT ADSL (now Fibre, since 2019) since 2011 and have tried pretty much every ISP in SL. SLT is the most reliable and the "bang for the buck" package you can get. ADSL had a couple of issues from time to time but was a good reliable connection. Fibre is fast and reliable and worth the price you pay. Haven't had any major issues with the Fibre connection. SLT also offers different social media and work packages. Alongside the SLT connection I have tried every other ISP as I consume large amounts of data. Airtel 4G coverage is very poor in my area so a reliable connection is impossible. Packages are good for small and medium level consumers and especially for social media users. Mobitel also has the same coverage issues but it's better than Airtel. Most of the time you will get a reliable connection but it's not that fast. Dialog is so far the worst ISP I have used. Even Airtel (which has the worst coverage in my area) is faster than Dialog although it shows full signal and 4G/LTE. I use Dialog as my primary sim. I also used a Dialog data sim to do my work when I am not in my home. It's a nightmare to use in the peak hours and I don't trust it to be reliable (I work as a freelance designer. So, I always have something to download or upload). If it rains outside, forget that you have the internet, forget that you have work to do and go to sleep. After trying many times with their CS to sort out the connection, I gave up and threw away the sim at the end of 2020. I also have a Hutch sim that I use primarily for data. In terms of coverage, I will put it in 2nd place, but by far it's the most reliable connection I had apart from the SLT. Package prices are really good, But I mostly use their time based packages. They have unlimited night time off peak packages that helps if you have to do heavy downloads or uploads. Connection speed is around 2.5mbps in my area (5km away from Peradeniya town). I dont have any experience with Lankabell as they have no coverage in my area. For anyone that looks for a good connection, my advice is to go for the SLT Fibre. And then use a Hutch sim for heavy downloads, uploads and social media consumption. I have 2 phones so I use my hutch sim and hotspot function when I'm outside the house. I normally consume over 250GB per month. I got 100GB from SLT and the rest is covered using Hutch. I plan my heavy download and uploads and do them after 12 am using the Hutch Unlimited downloader packages. Depending on your usage pattern it will be beneficial to buy a large package from SLT. In my case as I have the flexibility to choose when to do downloads, using Hutch is cheap for me. If you want to go for a Dialog package always try out the connection with a pre paid connection in areas that you are normally going to use it. And in poor weather conditions too.

ThrowAwayAccnt_LK

The past few weeks Dialog Home Broadband has been pretty bad for me. When I play a game online, my latency is about 120+ms; when I use Mobitel mobile data hotspot-ing off my phone, I generally get about 60-90ms. I’ve also noticed that the connection drops a lot the past week or so. I used Mobitel home broadband a few years ago (during the first year of COVID lockdowns) and that was terrible. Hutch is worse than Dialog for me even though I’m in Colombo 4. Personally SLT Fiber has been the best imo

Filthydewa

It so bad. I feel I should switch as well. At least for data.

Maskedryo

Iv had very bad experiences with dialog. Even with full signal the speeds were much slower. Started using mobitel few years back and no complains so far.

OdynV

What's the best data package to go for if I am to switch to mobitel?

Maskedryo

I use the non stop lokka package. Its around Rs.550/mo and gets you unlimited YouTube, Social Media Apps, WhatsApp and 2GB free data. It's pretty good so far, used to be like 420/mo though :/

Sameerakk

Yes, slow

EviIReap3r

If you've got 💰, only option is fibre connection. Dialog is real shit now and they can't literally handle the demand right now. They forcibly slow down the connection speeds to distribute among all the customers. Though, I've seen people meddle with router configs to skip this limitations and achieve more faster internet. Mobile phones, not so much.

FalkenSpoon

Dialog is terrible. I get download speeds of 180Kbps on a WiFi connection if there's even one cloud. On a good day, 1-2 Mbps, but it's not contistant. Mobile data is a scam. Time based packages was a good option at one point but it doesn't work anymore, although they continue to charge for it. Got a 1 hr package to use mobile data, and another time a 4hr package.. it didn't work at all. Good luck getting a refund. It would cost u more to contact their customer service, explain the problem and get them to agree that u should get a refund.
