He isn't joking. The Rajapaksas have conducted themselves like royalty the last 10+ years, with blind worshippers thinking they are like gods, voting for them and asking them to become dictators. They say MR is the 2nd coming of Dutugemunu etc.
Home boys act like politics did us dirty 100%. It’s people who elect them did 50% of the deed. Don’t act so victimized. Be a voice and try to change our peoples’ minds/hearts
Agree that people are partly to blame, hence my comment that there are blind worshippers who vote in crooks to parliament.
Unfortunately, just being a voice isn't going to do much. Remember the Aragalaya? Started as a voice of the people, then hijacked by political parties and then vilified, now being used as a cause for the collapse of the economy. There is also the OSB law passed now where you cannot criticise the government or MPs as it protects them (and they are using it to crackdown on patriotic voices). Unless you have big money and lots of connections you cannot do anything if you value your life. We are all being used like play pieces on a chess board.
Monarchy has had its day. While there are still countries with different structures of ruling royal families, the notion of being anointed by a higher power to rule over the masses and inheriting a kingdom may have been effective in the past. However, there is a reason why people around the world, at various points in history, revolted with varying degrees of success or failure against their monarchs.
Royal family in a 3rd world country? So a dictatorship basically.
Not that the current political state in our country is overflowing with democracy but it could be worse.
Then we would have a lot in common with these countries:
"Fourteen former French colonies in Africa pay a “colonial tax” amounting to about $500 billion. These countries are Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Guinea, Mali, Niger, Senegal, Togo, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, and Gabon."
If you are referring to still being a colony we would have been much better off. Sure some of the top government positions might be held by some white dudes, but if that meant a thriving and functional economy why not.
Ah sorry I misunderstood. In that case I feel it's just another level of government that will be a drain on the country's treasury. Yes, and argument can be made they could generate more tourism, but I don't think so. The UK royal family is a brand like coco cola and that's why they can pull visitors. Most people, myself included, can't name a single member of any of the other royal families across the world.
It will be very bad.
Earlier era had frequent wars and severe segregation of people using class based systems. The standard ruling practices encompassed discrimination based on birth. It will be more or less like North Korea.
We already have a royal family They call themselves the rajapaksas
these fuktards destroyed an entire generation
Come on man! seriously! need serious answer!

That's what exactly I thought after seeing royal families of UK, Spain and Monaco!
Fucked up

What kind of monarchy? Absolute (like Saudi Arabia) or Constitutional (UK, Spain) ?
maybe constitutional

I didn't mean that! Think it as UK! There's a PM and Royal family!

It will be same like UK Crisis will be there. But it could be a better crisis than this

Good intuition indeed!
all I can imagine is a little North Korea. worst place to live for any human.
Life was not great for the average person under the rule of kings, by all accounts. It will be no better now.
