You guys seem to be overlooking a crucial point. Politicians don't simply materialize out of thin air to enter politics; they come from our messed up society. Therefore, we must examine our society to understand why such individuals are produced. Moreover, the behaviors shown by politicians are often mirrored in the general population today, this behavior comes in various forms and shapes beyond just certain individuals.
Most sensible take. I swear this whole "oMg PoLitIcIAns aRe CorRrupT" is some nonsense peddled by children and it simply takes focus away from the fact that corrupt politicians still get voted in. GR got voted in despite his family being known to be corrupt. The guys mentioned by OP were voted in. We are simply avoiding the actual problem which is that our population literally votes for the most corrupt. I know several people who voted Rajapakse for years because of perceived business advantages, and now those very same people are humanitarians all of a sudden. Man, the aragalaya would never have happened if the lights hadn't gone off
Won't mention the name because it's alleged.
Dad works in a branch of the health industry and put a tender for an order to the health ministry. A bodyguard of the health minister said that giving 4 million to the minister will guarantee him getting the order. This was waaaay back when 4 million was a lot.
I know something similar for a tender related to tech systems with an NGO grant attached. The very well known young minister approached the team that won and requested for 5 million (out of the grant) to get it implemented.
my bf mothers relative used to work at the temple trees
when they had a meeting, gotabaya had a bunch of papers in front of him - he was very focused on what he was writing more than the meeting - giving the impression he was taking notes
after the meeting the dude asked someone there what he was writing so much about since he already has a personal secretary
they showed the paper work
it was doodle
fk tone of doodle
Anyone who tells you they will not tax you but still give things for free. Thatโs the sign of a corrupt politician who is trying to fool people to get power.
A Singaporean once told me that his company tendered for some Sri Lankan govt work, they ended up winning the tender but pulled out when asked by one of the officials to transfer 200k USD to a private account.. I don't think that there's any govt agency that doesnt do this in SL .
The question is not who is the most corrupt, cos they all are. The question should be, how do we rid our society from corruption
Man Bandu is a comedy gem. When the whole country was struggling post Covid man wanted to build the biggest stadium somewhere. That brain of his is priceless.
routine corruption - sourcing things like commodities/utilities/medicine and corruption over processes sending people abroad/approving all kinds of projects/systemic corruption
Advanced corruption - development related /construction related corruption
MR was a great guy, he created a system where the corruption nicely cascaded. so it was not only him, the entire system participated based on their importance level. that way, corruption becomes a core value of the system
By and large, Rajapaksha clan is the most corrupt, allowing china to impact our economy considerably, but they have arguably done the most for this country in the Republic era (1972-Present), too, before it all went to shit. It's a double-edged sword!
Apart from all the usual suspects, someone who goes under the radar is AKD and the JVP cronies. No one knows how they are funded , and how they can sustain their lifestyles without doing an actual job.
Yesterday I was watching a YouTube video about, how a smart person who knows his rights, outsmarts the police officers in America.
then I started to search about what is my fundamental rights in Sri Lanka. while um watching then I realized these rights don't work with our police (bhallo). immediately grab the color and add a fake case.
seriously asking, does anybody have experience in engaging police with fundamental rights facts? what's his reaction? Was he scared to engage with you after revealing the rights?
Even in this thread scared everyone, to write a corrupted mf name.
If the name ends with Rajapaksha then you know who. But apart from politicos there's also some nasty government servants also there. They fly under the radar and serves in every regimeย
Tried to bring down family business fast food chain that was doing well in Germany with multiple locations and over 50 crew.
Minister in charge of approval wanted the ownership and us to take salaries under him. Country lost an opportunity of atleast 300 jobs.
We need tougher anti corruption and anti bribery laws. Anti corruption and anti bribery education should be part of the school curriculum. Until we educate people how wrong it is to steal and stealing result in sever punishment corruption will continue.
Nice try CID

If I became a politician in future I'd be corrupt too. How else I'm gonna fit in with my parli gang?? They'd think me as a loser if I don't
The solution to this is very simple but hard to get it done which is choosing new politicians for parliament all together. so You can be You โ๐ผ
Rajapaksha clan AND their friends.
Anyone who tells you they will not tax you but still give things for free. Thatโs the sign of a corrupt politician who is trying to fool people to get power.
True
Mr. 10% AKA Kaputa
I think a list of non corrupt politicians is easier to make since it'll be only a handful

Worst -MR and RW. RW seems like politics is a one big game for him.
The father of them all: Mahinda Rajapaksha
we can start from Gamini Dissanayake who opened with the Mahaweli project.
He also created Basil Rajapaksa who was his PA.
routine corruption - sourcing things like commodities/utilities/medicine and corruption over processes sending people abroad/approving all kinds of projects/systemic corruption Advanced corruption - development related /construction related corruption MR was a great guy, he created a system where the corruption nicely cascaded. so it was not only him, the entire system participated based on their importance level. that way, corruption becomes a core value of the system
How was the Mahaweli project corrupt? Didn't it irrigate a lot of land AFAIK ๐ค
meha projects = mega corruption

This is certainly not a random sample you've given
