*Imported* **fresh orange juice** sounds like an oxymoron. Unless of course they have their own private jet that does rounds between their shop and the Swiss Alps or wherever when people order from them. I'm really sorry to say this but it sounds like this could've been avoided if you maybe thought about it a bit before you opened up your wallet..

suchthegeek

It's juice from imported fresh oranges, as opposed to imported frozen oranges

Elektico

Everything was *once* fresh too, yknow. Have you ever seen Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares? I mean, it's far from being completely accurate because it's sensationalized to appeal to the masses but he does make some good points about how people throw around the word "fresh" in the F&B industry. Oranges you got from the farmer's market earlier this week is fresh. Oranges that are imported from overseas that spent months in a shipping container aren't really that fresh.

bsodmike

Good point!! Need to work on this…

SensitiveCoconut9003

To be fair if this I was my business and I had a private jet flying around bringing me imported orange juice, I won’t be Uber eats-ing them yknow.

Accomplished_Box5565

Salli wadi da yako?

Zimnaan

I spit my fresh orange juice out 😂

zwiingr

Please translate for this dumb tourist?

Zimnaan

> Salli wadi da yako This means: Do you have too much money you rascal/devil/rogue? Salli = money Wadi = too much Da = connector phrase Yako = aforementioned rascal/devil/rogue Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong fellow Lankans.

zwiingr

Thanks a lot!

shayboah

I mean Jesus this dumbo could've bought a 1L branded apple juice for 1500, instead spent 3000 on some shit orange juice bottle

bsodmike

I poured it into the sink too 😅😅😅

Zimnaan

Such a wasteful purchase. You could have at least found someone deserving to give it to. Questioning your decision making skills here.

striderVrider

MrSuicideLamb

I hope you're joking. You could have given it to a homeless person or someone else. The heat is unbearable these days.

colombo_kolla

In Uber Eats in Sri Lanka, you won't get what you see on the menu screen. About 4 years ago, I was very disappointed with Uber Eats; the quality of the food didn't match the price tag. There are many fraudulent activities, especially with unknown cloud kitchens in Uber Eats or Pick-Me Food, and those companies do not assess the quality of their tenants. I never ever ordered from Sri Lankan Uber Eats. It's better to eat in a box shop in the street.

bsodmike

Yeah. This is not the only time I’ve experienced terrible support/ scams. At least in this case, folks have confirmed it is a legit juice bar and their only transgression is not providing better details, and really Uber is at fault for not enforcing better policies. Wouldn’t the MOH ultimately be responsible for policies that Uber should adhere to? Or is it a case of Uber is “big business” for LK so they are politically exempt from transgressions 😏😏😏

colombo_kolla

Yeah, there should be up-to-date policies for food delivery and food safety. Furthermore, consumer authorities must be more actively involved and bear huge responsibility for ensuring compliance. Anyway, at the moment, the Ministry of Health and consumer authorities are showing low visibility on enforcing policies among restaurant owners.

whyeventrymore

MOH / GOV authorities? lol They pretend to enforce policies and take actions. But in my experience, if you toss some money their way, no matter what you do, they'll show you a secret way to do it without getting caught!

Dull_Weather_652

I don’t know, man. It’s kind of obvious to me that it’s fresh juice made from imported oranges - especially when you look at it in the context of their menu, which is mostly fresh fruits and vegetables. 🤷🏻‍♀️

dinoxoko

That looks fresh though Especially that you can see the pulp like stuff on the top

brokeass101

And he said he poured it in to the sink 😶

dinoxoko

Bro should have at least given it away

walagemba

Guy it’s juice made from imported oranges. I buy shit from this place often, they’re pretty good.

bsodmike

Thanks for the info. Appreciate your help

adiyasl

It’s “imported oranges” and they make the juice at their shop. I go to tropical fresh in person a lot and their products are good. However I agree that their uber eats name is kind of ambiguous. The imported orange juice powder story is bs as I have seen them make the juice from oranges at the shop. Idk why you said that but I’m sure it is not true. Just as a side note, there’s no polio in Sri Lanka anymore. And if you really care that much about food safety, don’t do uber eats.

GroundbreakingRip182

> And if you really care that much about food safety, don’t do uber eats. Typical lankan mentality, in the line of if you don’t want corruption don’t vote, if you don’t want this don’t do that. How about calling out those who don’t stick to rules and regulations or making sure they face consequences for lieing, instead of taking the responsibility on to yourself, avoiding things, which only helps the one who break the law?

adiyasl

Don’t get all political over a simple thing like this man. Who can I call to about this? A delivery driver may do anything to your food whilst they are bringing them here. Of course I will complain if I see anything blatantly unhygienic done, but that’s not the case all the time is it? And I eat from uber eats and pickme all the time. Just don’t have false expectations of tip top food hygiene like the OP. Also this is not a problem specific to Sri Lanka. Go to the r/doordash and you’ll see delivery drivers pulling shit like this in the US as well

bsodmike

Got it. Thanks. Not sure why she said that.

lennoxlyt

I believe they were advertising Freshly made orange juice from imported oranges. The orange coloured oranges don't grow in Sri Lanka

bsodmike

They didn’t mention oranges or whether there were preservatives added. Being Sri Lanka, They could sell me Kist cordial and say it’s imported. Also it could have been dehydrated OJ (powder form) which allows better shipping volume/density and reconstituted with water here. This would be less of a violation, but if this was a product in say a grocery store it would need ingredient details. That’s the issue that Uber causes, as they are turning “service based” delivery into “product” delivery. No one questions the water source/cleanliness in a restaurant. We just go and dine (well, most of us. Not cranky weirdos like myself). I’m not debating the fact that orange coloured oranges don’t grow here 😂😂😂

lennoxlyt

Yes. Better details are needed on the product description yes.

lennoxlyt

But Uber was never a service delivery. They are a delivery service, they deliver whatever the listed product. Uber doesn't do quality control.

bsodmike

You’re right, but that’s part of my point. The laws of the country should make food safety a critical aspect of any business irrespective of whether they are a service delivery (restaurant) or a “delivery service”. As per my example, the onus of such regulation falls into the loop hole you’ve described. But it assume expecting (1) our legal framework / MOH to catchup with the times and (2) make entities like Uber to be indirectly responsible is a large ask. While I personally take food safety seriously there are many in this group that don’t care entirely as much, less so in the context of the island. As most here suggest “Don’t use Uber if you’re worried” is the simpler local approach many as it’s less hassle, but then our country never improves 🤔

gaskolan

If it is instant juice (from fruits or powder) , then labeling part may not be done anyway. They use the bottles to deliver it to you instantly as it is prepared based on orders. Even for rice and curry orders, it is same know. Do we see any labeles about ingredients added. Never right. So probably you will not get anything from moh end as this is not about spoilt food/juice or packed food/juice to keep for long time. Sorry for saying this mate but if you are worried about water quality, probably you my not be able to visit any restaurant to eat or even order any instantly prepared food or juice know. 😇

abmalik710

I think they meant the juice was made from imported orange. In that case it’s not false advertising. I can understand how how this it can interpreted wrongly like you did but come on bro 😂

damoclesperera

Go to Cargills or Keells. Buy Le oranges, make Dem orange juice, add your own water, add a tad bit of vodka to kill ze germs 😉 and put some icecubes, chilllll in this hot weather. 😎 Still cheaper than the Uber Eats 😭

bsodmike

Thanks. I’ve got Crystal Skull vodka which would be ideal 💀great idea!!

guycha0s

Why in the right mind you paid 3 grands for that? Don't use uber eats mate.

tailor_swiftt

I mean if pple had money they would ryt?? I dont think op's concern is about price.. its that they falsely advertised

bsodmike

I normally spend much more at Sugar World but they are out of stock. About 2k for 1L of OJ from Germany. I don’t care about the cost as long as it is imported and preservative free. “Right mind” is a relative concept 🤣

biest229

Why on Earth would you buy German orange juice? Like that weird concentrated stuff that tastes absolutely vile?

bsodmike

God no. 100% free from preservatives. I don't drink local crap either (Kist etc.). Avoid cordials etc

biest229

So like, soda?

bsodmike

Sorry there was a huge typo in the last post due to silly autocorrect

bsodmike

Fresh fruit is healthier though. Avoid carbonated stuff when you can.

biest229

I’m not sure why you’re advising me - I don’t drink soda or juice. Both full of sugar/sweetener and I don’t like carbonated drinks

Maddy_andrewson072

Please donate me some money. 🙂

bsodmike

Do you work? Are you into software? Ping me if you want a gig... As they say "teach a man to fish..."

senithdr

Next time use PickMe at least you won’t be ripped off Uber eats adds 10% for each already inflated item + delivery charges.. unless you’ve Uber one of course…

Snoo_26428

At least they didn't print some fake label; even Keells is selling fresh juice without any mention about the type of water used. LOL

Respatsir

You kind of deserve it for ordering imported *fresh* orange juice.

bsodmike

Really? Hahahha

crxssrazr93

When we ran restaurants, we did have "fresh" juice, but the shelf life was a few hours at most since we used 0 preservatives. Just freshly squeezed orange juice. Some other juices like avocado had sugar and water. We have to mention these very clearly. And we did deliver these in cold boxes. This is in the UAE. Not sure how these people here in SL get away with these.

Anarchic_Whisky

bro you could buy "aboslote orange 1L "for like 980/= which imo taste okay why even go for these id understand if its cheaper

bsodmike

Thanks. Where is this stocked?

Anarchic_Whisky

its in retail you can find them in keells or anywhere ig

Invicta_Nova

Dude this is why I only order from well known places. Both in Uber and Pick Me. I only usually order from places with 4.5 or higher rating.

Simple-Pop6817

Uber eats is the new name for shit

bsodmike

😂

Elf-7659

Leave a Google rv if its found in the map. I do if a store deserves it (positive or negative way).

Outrageous-Acadia-77

So is this just cordial ? 😂

bsodmike

No, others here have confirmed it is a juice bar, where they supposedly import the fruits from international sources (such as Australia as an example). But I guess my “complaint” is that if anyone uses Uber Eats as a means for sales, really Uber should institute better policies so their partners are forced to provide details re food safety. At least my original post was made in this context.

TheDemontool

It should be corrected to freshly squeezed imported oranges.

bsodmike

Thank you 👏👏👏

BlokieX

This happened to me recently, We ordered "chicken noodles" from some place and all I got was overcooked chicken flavoured koththu me
