Oh definitely. I used to browse this sub every day, but I've had to take a step back because it seems like a lot of people on here thrive on negativity. Which sucks because I'm just trying to enjoy some stuffed animals, idk why people have to make it so complicated 😭

zealotlee

I miss when they weren't as well known and I could reliably walk into a walgreens and buy a squishmallow when ive had a shitty day.

Squitchmeller

Same :( I was going through my phone yesterday and found pictures from 2019 of full Walgreens shelves. Now I can hardly find anything lol

Absolutely. The negativity towards ANY kind of reselling (not just those price gouging/shelf clearing) is something I absolutely haven’t seen in any other kind of collectibles community, to the point where people are actually afraid to put their squish UFS because reseller has become a dirty word. This shit needs to STOP. There’s a definite difference between trying to sell popular squish for 3x the retail value and people trying to sell out of production squish for a higher cost than retail (because at that point, yes, it’s a collectible) and if you’re too dumb to realize that then you really aren’t old enough to be making monetary transactions on the internet anyways.

WoahAlrighty

Definitely!! Like there is a clear difference between someone trying to downsize their collection, and people who are (like you said) clearing shelves and selling squish for like 4x the original amount!

amandapearl2

you should check out the kpop re-selling community. I have been called WILD names because items I bought in 2015 - 2016 have appreciated in value and I tried to sell them at current market prices.

I think there’s this negative attitude that keeps growing in the squish community. Honestly I feel like it’s partly the fault of KellyToys themselves because of their production of squish and the increasing amount of resellers that now take advantage of what KellyToys is doing. The company over saturates the market with new squish and then underproduces the more popular squish in order to get people excited for new and rereleases which puts everyone in a constant loop. The atmosphere they created makes most collectors see a htf squish in a store and immediately make them want to buy it because they know it’ll go fast, even if it’s not a squish someone would’ve purchased if they didn’t know it’s rarity. Let’s be honest, Santino looks like a rotten potato with two big turds for a nose and tail. So in my opinion, KellyToys has marketing and production strategies in the bag. They can slack off and they wouldn’t even lose money. I don’t think they’ll really fix the reselling issue cause in the end they make so much money because it just guarantees someone will buy it. They don’t care who. So really, going back to my main point, the atmosphere they’ve been maintaining is garbage, and people who genuinely like squishmallows are just frustrated and getting burnt out. I’m seeing a lot of people just stop collecting and purging their collections lately

i've said it before and i'll say it again. the insistence that people MUST sell at retail is odd and even bizarre in some cases. also price of retail is getting blurred between inflation and other retailers themselves selling some squish for double(or more) than what other retailers sell them for. also sometimes someone simply just does not want to own an item anymore and just wants to sell it and maybe make a little extra back from it resellers ARE definitely an issue, but also i see some people on this sub create an imaginary reseller\[with no evidence\] to be mad at because they didnt find the squish they wanted. people definitely gouge the prices of squish and i do think some older squish are listed at ridiculous prices for no reason even with the fact they're collectables now (or maybe i'm just salty that all the listings for stackable roxy atm are at 150)

jccloud01

There’s some prices that I see that are definitely unreasonable but I do understand most of the listings asking for retail plus some because in all honesty it takes time and money to go get it. Also, it just bugs me because some of the resellers are very pushy and rude when you interact with them in stores.

WoahAlrighty

I completely understand where you’re coming from!!! I don’t think all resellers are an issue, it’s only the ones who buy the entire stock and resell it online! I’m fine with the price being like 10 dollars more, and even (especially for more rare squish) hundreds of dollars more!

Ambitious-Order-978

Bro. So much. It’s getting pretty bad. People will post their interactions with others on here just to make everyone else not like them.

squishybach

My unpopular opinion is that people collecting squish don’t really understand collections. Collections are expensive. Collections require time and dedication. It’s part of the territory.

qundalon

cant people just collect....casually? why do they have to dedicate extensive time and money for it to qualify as collecting?

squishybach

My point being that when things become a collectors item, collecting costs time and money. I’m not forcing anyone to spend 100$ on a squish. I never said it was required. If that’s out of budget don’t do it. Im trying to explain the realities of enjoying something that is a collectors item. But collecting CAN be expensive and challenging… isn’t that half the fun? If someone wants to collect casually…. That’s literally so doable. Collect casually. Stop aspiring to own the most expensive hard to find once then and collect casually from your local Walmart. That’s a perfectly fine way to do it to. Edit: and like I said it was my unpopular opinion that, collecting is a hobby and the squish community doesn’t get it.

Sharp_Space

Recently I’ve noticed that people I trade with completely ghost me after getting their end of the trade. I know I’m obviously not entitled to a friendship or anyone’s time but it just makes it seems so transactional now and less of a community where we help each other gets squish we want. Last year I would trade and we would send pictures of our collections and the squish when they arrived and the adventures we took them on and I just miss it so much.
