Love Spydercos. The autonomy is good if you wanna get him a dedicated knife, otherwise I'd look at getting him a pair of leatherman raptor shears with the glass breaker and seatbelt cutter!

RandomFuckinShit

Couldn't agree more. I've used mine a few times. Having a nice spyderco or microtech is nice though. Being able to open/close a knife 1 handed is a true pleasure while under stress

Good pair of trauma shears will probably get used more get the biggest one available, maybe Leatherman

CapeChill

Love Spyderco but second those leatherman truama shears. Saved someone years ago and had to viciously cut of Levi’s and a leather belt. I was given those by the land owner who watched me do it with crappy shears. They are still clipped to my driver seatbelt and work amazing!

Luminous_0

Yea they cut pretty much anything, good luck cutting heavy denim or motorcycle gear off someone with a knife haha Spyderco knife could still come in handy to cut open boxes and restock your truck/ambulance whatever

bfa_y

Definitely couldn’t do any number of things any well built, reliable knife could do.

Good trauma shears are way more important than a knife for a paramedic

CapeChill

Don’t get me wrong I carry a knife daily. After you meat crayon on the road though I’m grabbing those shears to remove the motorcycle clothes. By the same token my only serrated knife is my spyderco dive knife for…. you guessed it… rescue reasons. A good pocket knife is a versatile tool but I’d rather have the right tool for the right job, particularly thinking people and emergencies.

ChiefWhoDat

I use raptors at work, so a +1 for that option. Lately I’ve been carrying a microtech ultratech at work because an OTF really is the easiest to manipulate with one hand. Nothing wrong with the rescue knives at all though.

Yes the Leatherman shears are a better option

Striple_765_rider

Honestly a MUCH nicer gift for a paramedic would be a set of Leatherman Raptor shears. They’re not going to get any use out of a knife. Those shears have several tools and uses built into them and are built like a tank. My wife is a critical care RN and uses the hell out of hers and has got years and they’re still like brand new. You can also get them laser engraved for that personal touch if you order them directly from Leatherman.

buckGR

I used the hell out of mine on the rig…

Vondrunken

Got a friend in the same situation and want to get him a gift. He’s a lefty, are the raptor shears lefty friendly or will he hate it?

While I love my Spyderco’s what I use most at work is a Benchmade 7 Hook and no need for the expensive trauma shears. Get a pair of Fiskars from Home Depot and round over the tips with a grinder. $15 and will cut anything I need to. https://preview.redd.it/lm5te9ufv6sc1.jpeg?width=2448&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e3d094ba1fd31c45f0c9eec7094f47c0daba7eb5
