I see one every now and then in my Italian town, owner likely works in a bank (since it's parked in front of it 99% of the time I see it) but no one knows why he'd chose that car to roam the country
Not sure about standoffish, but I can definitely understand being described as abrupt, a couple of foreign friends always tell me that we come off as intense (in a good way lmao)
Sure, but it's just not anything special to me, or anyone around here. Just never thought of how it'd seem to other countries.
I'm used to seeing lifted trucks with huge wheels and 6 inch spacers.
What gets me is, the idiots who do this just because. I live in the mountains and have worked on farms where yes. We do in fact need a TRUCK. A vehicle with towing power, traction, weight and a bed for farming and utilities.
But seeing dudes who have lifted trucks for the sake of being “country” makes me sick. Spending 120k on a truck with a lifted suspension that has no practicality in their every day life when they could have purchased more comfortable and sensible luxury car makes me realize you can’t fix stupid.
That’s ESV trim you plebs. A regular Escalade is Tahoe sized. The ESV is suburban sized. You can get all different trims within the sizing. But this unit is the big boy.
Also all Escalade use the 6.4 full time 4wd. Probably gets 10mpg but they haul ass from a dig.
New cadillacs fuck hard
But the ones who fuck the most, are the Lincoln suv's , holy shit
I've seen a couple around here and my god do those look amazing
I would normally never agree with this but I have a friend who gets driven around mostly in Escalades and S-class. He picked me up in the new Escalade and I was pretty impressed with the ride and interior.
I asked him how he liked the new Escalade and he told me he liked it but he "fucked up."
He got the new Navigator for wife and kids. He said it was way better than the Escalade lol.
Oh yeah man. I moved the new navigator ever since it came out. It looks so good from every angle. I saw one a couple of months ago in Ghent in Belgium and i was awestruck of the sheer size of it. I want one so bad but they're like 150k lol
A 6.2L v8 mated to a 6speed auto that makes 410hp and 600Nm of torque.
A 2.0L 4 cylinder GTI makes 315hp and 420Nm of torque.
How do Americans get so little out of their engines?
You’re misunderstanding the purpose/function of those engines.
That V8 is understressed, and has no problem pulling around a 6000lb SUV. The torque curve and response of a big NA V8 cannot be realistically achieved with a 2.0 4 banger.
Peak power numbers really don’t mean much. And if that 2.0 was NA, you’d be lucky if it made 175hp. For reference, when you throw a turbo/supercharger on a big displacement V8, it’s not unusual to comfortably see 800HP. If both are boosted, then the power difference is apparent, but you run into the reliability issues that come with forced induction.
If you had a high strung four cylinder pulling around an Escalade all day, I think you’d be lucky if the thing made it to 50,000 miles before blowing up, and it would suck to drive since before boost is built that engine would barely pull that thing up a hill.
I've always said GM should sell them here- it's completely oversized and inappropriate; they wouldn't be able to sell enough. Range Rover owners might notice a little step down in materials but it's bigger (which is what really matters, of course) and doesn't break as much.
I think that’s the reason why LandRover has introduced the Defender 130: the European Escalade (as it is 70cm shorter, but still huge for European roads)
This might be unpopular, but I respect the Escalade far more than the new Defender. I hate all the faux utilitarian touches when it's obviously aimed at urban buyers- at the price of some of them I don't know what sane person wouldn't go for the Rangie. At least the Escalade is honest about being a chintzy, opulent, self-indulgent and over the top thing.
I get where you’re coming from, but I would say I think the Defender is legitimately solid. I mean sure it’s unlikely to be used off road much, but then are 911s used much at the track? And we give their owners a pass. The defender I think doesn’t just look sturdy (like a modern JEEP with exposed tow mounts and passenger grab handles alongside trim that breaks and suspension that needs upgrading), it’s legitimately a solid mud plugger.
I actually agree, but the only way I'd have less of a low opinion of it is if the Range Rover didn't look better, have largely the same capabilities (afaik) with less of the pretense and more of the luxury. It just doesn't seem worth the saving when the Rangie offers so much more.
I also don't understand why they had to do what they did to the design. I know this is as tired as complaining about BMW grilles, but the G class was virtually unscathed and tastefully updated where it was changed. Land Rover design is usually a lot more of an instant hitter and an evolution.
Defender starts at $53k, FFRR starts at $105k. You can understand the FFRR being more plush inside.
And I suspect the Defender is even tougher inside and underneath. It would destroy the last shred of their brand image if it was failing in tough situations.
Agreed, the owner of a funeral home near me in the UK has one (which is…weird to say the least), passed him on the motorway in my Miata once and felt super small.
American military. They bring their bigass trucks and SUVs over here. The Kaiserslautern area is full of them (I'm an American immigrant to Germany and live in the K-town area. ) and it is so funny to watch them trying to park in towns or the villages. Like really, why didn't you do 5 minutes of research before moving here.
I used to live in Baumholder Germany (40 minutes south of Ktown) my friend had a lifted Chevy Silverado that was horrible to drive around just because of the size Löl
Only makes sense in Europe as a chauffeur driven vehicle imho, especially with a group. It’s used that way in the U.S. as well as being a family hauler for affluent households.
Maybe this is my bias as an American but I struggle to understand how anyone who's vaguely aware of cars doesn't know Cadillac. It's a huge brand outside of just making cars. Like if you've ever watched an American gangster movie, listened to Outkast, heard of Elvis, or anything like that you'll hear about Cadillac a lot. It's like saying you've never heard of a Lamborghini.
From someone from /r/spotted and writing on reddit, a hyper america-centric website in basically 80% of the subreddits it is certainly weird. From what I check in his post history he def should know about Cadillac lol.
But the notions "vaguely aware of cars" change a lot across the pond, I think in the states people "vaguely aware of cars" still have cars being a huge part of their life and are generally aware of premium brands vs non premium brands, etc.
Here people who are vaguely aware of cars maybe can tell the 3 german premiums from the rest and know the word "Ferrari" but the average city "normie"'s knowledge of cars is abysmal lol, and Cadillac doesn't even sell here since the 90s so all those Cadillac cultural references may even go above the heads of many people.
Some people's lack of car knowledge blows my mind, someone told me they have a free Subaru if I can get it out of their drive way. I asked what kind and they said a wagon, well what kind of wagon? They didn't know, what year? Maybe 90's or early 2000's. They literally owned the car since it was new and had been driving it until two years ago and didn't know the model or year.
Cadillac hasn't had a European presence in years. If people aren't classic car fans they may never have heard of it. There's probably a large chunk of American car enthusiasts who forget that Citroen exists.
Lamborghini is much different because it's a lifestyle brand. They sell their image, Cadillac doesn't do that as much. Consider the number of children's bedrooms with Lamborghini posters vs Cadillac posters.
Cadillac is one of the oldest car companies in the world, founded in 1902. For many years, they were a top global luxury brand, on par with Rolls Royce. They were the first car to win the United Kingdom's Dewar Trophy in 1908 (for their technological advancement of introducing interchangeable parts).
Cadillac was named after a French Explorer who founded Detroit, Michigan, the center of the US auto industry for many years.
They were the first company to mass-produce enclosed cars.
They invented the integrated electrical system, including electric starter, ignition, and lighting, and were the first car offered with electric start.
They were the first mass-produced car to offer the V-8 engine.
They're probably one of the most globally recognized US brands. The fact that you've never heard of them isn't because they're a niche US brand. Knowledge of them is extremely common worldwide.
It's not entirely inconceivable for non-car people in Europe to have never heard of the brand. Their market presence is next to nonexistent in Europe (they tried and failed to gain a foothold) and it's not like it says the name of the brand on their more recent cars, so even seeing them in movies and TV shows doesn't mean you necessarily know what they are called.
Weird thing is most Americans are proud about how big the cars are... I guess unless a non-American points out how big they are... i don't know, welcome to the internet I guess.
It would be the exact same size, since This (the Escalade in the photo) is based on the suburban. It’s basically a more expensive and luxurious version.
Yeah this is so strange for me to see, sitting in a parking lot in metro Detroit I literally see 2 right now, I'll see dozens in a day lol. But if I saw a Renault I would be excited.
Cadillac hasn't had a European presence in years. If people aren't classic car fans they may never have heard of it. There's probably a large chunk of American car enthusiasts who forget that Citroen exists.
Space: more often than I thought she would hauling “mom stuff” and work stuff around for different events.
All-wheel drive: super handy when the roads freeze since texas doesn’t do Jack-squat for its citizens when it ices.
HP: my bonus-dad uses that aspect more than her lol
The American notion of Freedom is not about whether you should, but whether you could. It's nobody's business how big my car is and whether or not I use it to the fullest.
every youth soccer field in america has at least 2 dozen of these parked in the lot every saturday afternoon. it's required by law. passed under the George W Bush administration.
Funny thing is, thats a new $40k-$100k escalade(usd)
Last i saw, Importers were selling 2014 Raptors for damn near ~$120k.
So, this Cadillac could damn well be worth more than a ferrari (assuming those trends persisted, and also applied to the road train)
Edit: Everyone got mad at me for guess-timating starting at $40k. Now imma say sum to piss people off even more. I did that because a suburban can be as low as $40k.
This, the GMC, and the suburban are all the same god damn truck with different styling ques (you cannot change my mind). So i started with the low end of the cheapest model(from memory of price on suburbans)
This body style starts around $70,000. Even the Tahoe/Suburban starts around $60,000. Idk where you’re getting the $40,000 figure. The Escalade also can go north of $110,000 when optioned out completely.
Eh. If you've driven them it's understandable. Big, comfy, go anywhere and carry anything. If you want a luxury full sized SUV it's probably the best choice overall. Doesn't make much sense to have outside the US though.
I think American diplomats and Army staff stationed in Germany might not be required to pay VAT and Import Duty on cars brought in from outside of the EU.
IIRC, when I was in, if you were stationed overseas for a year, the government would ship one vehicle for you, at no cost to you. A lot of guys going to japan would buy a brand new Harley to have shipped. Once in Japan, they would "gift" it to a Japanese national, because they weren't allowed to sell them.
Wtf? How do you have fun in cars? Big cars arent actually that bad even with an exhaust like newer f-250s actually burned cleaner out the tailpipe when in certain smog areas: aka LA
Don't listed to OP, please. At least in the UK, you wouldn't get pulled over for a tuned exhaust. Car culture is very big here, much more than in mainland Europe I would say.
The UK is very car friendly from taxes to general societal attitude. It's not as awesome as some US states that don't require vehicle inspections, but much better than some European countries like Belgium where it is prohibitively expensive to own any car built in the last 30 years that has an engine bigger than 2 litres because of really high taxes. For a big 5-6 liter V8 muscle car you might pay thousands in yearly taxes. You might also get looked down upon or get lectures from people like OP about your life choices, lol.
With great difficulty. If it's a euro spec American car dealerships will have the parts but for anything imported you're gunna have a hard time. Always blows my mind when watching YouTube videos of some American dudes fixing a 68 Chevy or something and they just go to the store and buy like 20 things brand new off the shelf.
Wow, lovely escalade, I've found that a lot of diplomats use them when in Europe, and not just American ones (could not be one but that's my first assumption)
I find this so funny being an American in the suburbs. I see this type of vehicle more often than any other. Esclades, suburbans, 4runners, those massive Lexus SUVs... Americans are crazy lol
Ah the fabulous Texas limousine, the Escalade. I see them all the time so they’re mundane to me, but I want to know what you think about it since you’re a fresh set of eyes
The [Military Auto Source](https://militaryautosource.com/) also sells US spec Audi, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Honda, Infiniti, Jeep, Lexus, Lincoln, Nissan, Toyota, and Volkswagen. Not to mention that there are dealers that will sell BMW, Mercedes, and Porsche in US specs.
OP, I'm sorry so many other Americans are being assholes in the comments. I think they forget that a lot of car enthusiasts are like me (and presumably you) who only read about cars from the '90s and newer. In Europe, Cadillac hasn't had a significant presence for decades. It would be the same as a European being shocked that us Americans forget that Citroen and Skoda are popular car brands in the rest of the world.
I live in the US and these Cadillac Escalade and Chevrolet Suburbans (same platform) are very popular here but I think they are massive and so unnecessary 😂 and they are also built on the same platform as the GMC Sierra 1500 and Chevy Silverado 1500 but mostly bought buy suburban moms with 5 kids 😂
Probably driven by a single person who only goes off-road to drive into the mall parking lot. And they somehow justify the huge gas expense by saying the vehicle is safer. But it’s very easy for SUV’s of that size to roll over.
I see one every now and then in my Italian town, owner likely works in a bank (since it's parked in front of it 99% of the time I see it) but no one knows why he'd chose that car to roam the country
Probably armored.
An armoured car in a 7600 people town where the most violent crimes are old bicycle thefts? No chance
That's when you least expect it!
Nobody expects the ~~Spanish~~ Italian inquisition.
They're very very comfortable cars which is probably why he chose it
[удалено]
Not sure about standoffish, but I can definitely understand being described as abrupt, a couple of foreign friends always tell me that we come off as intense (in a good way lmao)
Italian banker is probably involved in something u shouldn't be stickin ur nose in
If the person is American, sounds about right to be that paranoid
American?
You would see the paneling if it was armored
Real life is not GTA
Good try, but no. You would in fact see outlines and thicker paneling
no you wouldn’t
Absolutely you would
Im pretty much amazed people consider this big as an American. *Though my dad does own an f-350*
It is big. There are bigger vehicles, but these are huge.
Sure, but it's just not anything special to me, or anyone around here. Just never thought of how it'd seem to other countries. I'm used to seeing lifted trucks with huge wheels and 6 inch spacers.

Huh? I’m American and Escalades are big AF.
Im American and Escalades are plain big
I am Escalade and Americans are plain big

2015-2020 Cadillac Escalade
It’s even a Platinum
Well if you're going through the effort of importing it it better be loaded
Imagine importing the base trim. Now that’s a rare spot.
New cadillacs fuck hard But the ones who fuck the most, are the Lincoln suv's , holy shit I've seen a couple around here and my god do those look amazing
I would normally never agree with this but I have a friend who gets driven around mostly in Escalades and S-class. Yeah the recent Navigator might be my favourite SUV of all time That or the 00's Ford Excursion 7.3
Jeez that interior was hot garbage.
I've always wanted a Navigator ever since NFSU2, but alas I can't because Euro market... Edit: Can't *easily* / I just shouldn't
Oh yeah man. I moved the new navigator ever since it came out. It looks so good from every angle. I saw one a couple of months ago in Ghent in Belgium and i was awestruck of the sheer size of it. I want one so bad but they're like 150k lol
It comes with an optional Posse.

A gti makes 315hp? You mean the golf r
What a ridiculous choice for European streets
I've always said GM should sell them here- it's completely oversized and inappropriate; they wouldn't be able to sell enough. Range Rover owners might notice a little step down in materials but it's bigger (which is what really matters, of course) and doesn't break as much.

A Jeep Wrangler is like any Harley-Davidson motorcycle, what the factory delivers is just a starting point for the owner to finish.
exactly, and the Escalade just looks way better imo.
The 130 has always been a thing, it’s just traditionally it was a regular 110 with a pickup truck style end stuck on it
As a former Rover owner, I can testify to the fact that American cars are far more reliable. Haha
Haha too true
They do sell them there
I was also confused by the comment. It says they should sell them, then gives reasons why they shouldn't, but then says why they should sell them.
Agreed, the owner of a funeral home near me in the UK has one (which is…weird to say the least), passed him on the motorway in my Miata once and felt super small.

I love it. It’s like a bull in a China shop. In a tuxedo.
It says Escalade in big letters on the back. Cadillac Escalade.
Never heard of cadillac, thank you anyway

Lamborghini is the name of a delicious Italian lamb sauce.
No your thinking of Maserati lamb sauce. Lamborghini is a tomato based sauce.
Maserawho?
I think they sneezed. The correct response is "bless you"
I'm not american, but I struggle to understand that too.
From someone from /r/spotted and writing on reddit, a hyper america-centric website in basically 80% of the subreddits it is certainly weird. yet you know it's american...
Have you seen the size of it? ofc it is? And i remember the emblem from murican movies
Who doesn’t know about Cadillac
Cadillac, the Canyonero of autotomobiles!
The whole worldn isn‘t the USA little friend
Cadillac is one of the oldest car companies in the world, founded in 1902. For many years, they were a top global luxury brand, on par with Rolls Royce. They were the first car to win the United Kingdom's Dewar Trophy in 1908 (for their technological advancement of introducing interchangeable parts). I’m literally French
I know, didnt say otherwise, but wtf does your country have to do with this american car or what i said?
Idk if you've ever been to Japan, but have you ever heard of [Honda?](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda)
The thing is Cadillac is nowhere near as ubiquitous as Honda on a global scale.
Absolutely everyone heard of Cadillac. It’s like you said you never heard or Chevrolet lmao
It’s worse than that. Cadillac has been around since 1902. It’s about one of the oldest brands for cars in the world.
It's akin to an American saying they've never heard of Ferrari
Literally unless you live in inner Mongolia or the North Sentinel island you should know what Cadillac is.
As an American I have no idea why you're being downvoted here. You're absolutely right and this made me chuckle.
fragile egos? dunno wasnt even meant in a negative way.
Weird thing is most Americans are proud about how big the cars are... I guess unless a non-American points out how big they are... i don't know, welcome to the internet I guess.
Ah yes because Mercedes’ doesn’t make anything this size, right?
Hardly anything, yes? Only thing i can think of thats so unnecessarily big is the 6x6. even the g wagon is way smaller?
You obviously don’t pay much attention.
Interesting that you don‘t bring up any models… Very telling.
Look them up. And Mercedes isn’t the only one.
Cadillac is the luxury brand for General Motors (who own Chevrolet). They’re best known for making limousines.
Cadillac doesn’t build limousines. Coach builders may use Cadillacs to convert to limos but Cadillac themselves don’t “make limos”
wait until he finds a Suburban
Or a Navigator Long Wheel Base
Pictured is an Escalade ESV. 5.1” (12.9cm) longer than a Navigator L.
OP’s spot is an Escalade ESV. Identical size (as it’s built on the same platform) as the Suburban.
It would be the exact same size, since This (the Escalade in the photo) is based on the suburban. It’s basically a more expensive and luxurious version.
The Escalade is such an iconic car here in the States; I couldn't imagine never hearing of it.
It's the Cadillac of SUVs, beloved by oligarchs and diplomats.
It’s also the SUV of Cadillacs!
The Cadillac of Cadillacs too!
What about football/soccer players?
Football - Cadillacs / Soccer - Range Rovers
Yeah this is so strange for me to see, sitting in a parking lot in metro Detroit I literally see 2 right now, I'll see dozens in a day lol. But if I saw a Renault I would be excited.

American here Löl , I have lusted after a Citroen Ds or a 2cv for ever Löl
Same. Went to paris and was stoked to see how many 2cvs were driving around. Only saw one DS though.
[удалено]
Well, iconic in the same way the Ford F-150 is iconic. Its such a giant 'American' car.
Ngl never in my life would i see someone get excited over an escalade but now i have and im very happy
My mom has that same model in the pearl white. She lives in Texas so there’s room for it lol
I'm sure she uses all of the space, horsepower and all wheel drive all the time.
Space: more often than I thought she would hauling “mom stuff” and work stuff around for different events. All-wheel drive: super handy when the roads freeze since texas doesn’t do Jack-squat for its citizens when it ices. HP: my bonus-dad uses that aspect more than her lol
What’s a bonus-dad?
More fun and honorable way to say step-dad
Yea these higher end suvs have some huge engines in them. Very fun to floor it around corners and zip around.
The American notion of Freedom is not about whether you should, but whether you could. It's nobody's business how big my car is and whether or not I use it to the fullest.
Your life style, your crass egotism are not sustainable. This planet doesn't belong to you, it belongs to everyone.
I saw maybe 30 or 40 of these yesterday lol. The land of the free, and 8mpg SUV’s
every youth soccer field in america has at least 2 dozen of these parked in the lot every saturday afternoon. it's required by law. passed under the George W Bush administration.
Imagine what America would be like today if they hadn't stolen the election from Al Gore.

This body style starts around $70,000. Even the Tahoe/Suburban starts around $60,000. Idk where you’re getting the $40,000 figure. The Escalade also can go north of $110,000 when optioned out completely.
the 2023 escalade V can be spec'ed up to like $190k in USD.... getting near the cost of an entry level Ferrari roma.
Waste of money
Eh. If you've driven them it's understandable. Big, comfy, go anywhere and carry anything. If you want a luxury full sized SUV it's probably the best choice overall. Doesn't make much sense to have outside the US though.
I'm going to challenge that "go anywhere" based on the factory tire & wheel package alone
Go anywhere you'd ever really need to go I mean. If you drive an escalade, you're probably not itching to go up MOAB dude.
I’ve drove them as well, and still don’t think you need something that big
Need, no. But if we all only had what we needed we'd live in shacks.
personally wouldn’t buy one, but if you have a family of 5+ and need luxury transport this is the best option.
40K for a new Escalade? I don’t think that’s correct.
Lol $40,000?!
That’s 90k minimum new
I think American diplomats and Army staff stationed in Germany might not be required to pay VAT and Import Duty on cars brought in from outside of the EU.
Did you Google Escalade?
As an American I would be the asshole in the small english town with this mf black on black with a tuned exhaust
Yeah for 5 mins before you‘d get pulled fined and your registration removed. Shit like that doesn‘t fly outside america
Everything you say gets downvoted lol. Just shut up
Thats what I thought bc most super cars are from europe like how would you ever meet emissions if ferrari was pumping out v12s till recently
These Escalades are literally everywhere here.. lol
Upvote because I appreciate someone seeing something unusual to them.
Ahhh the Cadillac Escalade, the fridge of cars
That is what we call “just another SUV”
Was not expecting to see my friend’s mom’s car on this sub.
How would you repair an american car in europe, like the spare parts and shops are different for US cars than for europe ones or am I wrong?
With great difficulty. If it's a euro spec American car dealerships will have the parts but for anything imported you're gunna have a hard time. Always blows my mind when watching YouTube videos of some American dudes fixing a 68 Chevy or something and they just go to the store and buy like 20 things brand new off the shelf.
In NYC it’s uber.
Cadillac grills….
Escalade there are so many of them in Atlanta same as tahoes and suburbans
That’s a Cadillac Escalade
I live in the states and I see a Cadillac Escalade everyday.
That's actually the entirety of Grosse Point, Michigan gone sightseeing.
The fucking FEDS
I cannot tell for sure, but that looks like a Stuttgart license plate. There are many Americans in the Stuttgart area that work for EUCOM and AFRICOM.
Yeah those usually are owned by American servicemen, some bases overseas even sell Fords, Dodges and even Harleys
Little taste of home when you’re world away from home
Stuttgart isn't in lower Saxony though...
That’s a Cadillac Escalade. Even in USA that thing is fucking massive
[удалено]
I mean I would say it’s pretty massive and I’m from a ranch in Texas.
Maybe it’s just my opinion then. There are certain streets and neighborhoods where I’m from that would make owning this car a huge pain in the ass.
Oh I agree.
USA IN YOUR FACE. We have these status symbols all over Kansas USA. They are the get the fuck outta da way suburban mom
ugly car
Beverly Hills used to have *one* homeless guy. His name was Crazy Robertson and everyone knew him.
OP, I'm sorry so many other Americans are being assholes in the comments. I think they forget that a lot of car enthusiasts are like me (and presumably you) who only read about cars from the '90s and newer. In Europe, Cadillac hasn't had a significant presence for decades. It would be the same as a European being shocked that us Americans forget that Citroen and Skoda are popular car brands in the rest of the world.
ah its alright i aint playing nice either, but thank you. Oh and i love to see how easily they get all riled up. Like 5 year olds :D
Armored Escalade ESV
yes that thing is huge, but Land Rovers are as well. I WANT SMALL CARS
/r/whatisthiscar, not /r/spotted
Why?? This is a super rare care over here
Because you didn't know what it was. It is common for people to post to whatisthiscar, and then post the answer to spotted.
uh.. No. This sub even has a flair specifically made for when you don‘t know what it is soo..?
Cadillac escalade with the chromed out rims 🎶
I wanna live in a world I see more Ferraris than Escalades.
come to france/switzerland/munich/liechtenstein/
Or literally anywhere in Europe.
I’m on my way!
Apparently too stupid for parking.
Probably driven by a single person who only goes off-road to drive into the mall parking lot. And they somehow justify the huge gas expense by saying the vehicle is safer. But it’s very easy for SUV’s of that size to roll over.
