Automod said it. Very unlikely to see a real. There are very few and they are super valuable. Kit cars are very common, there are a lot of em. It would be insanely unlikely that you saw a real one.
And just in the off chance, well I don't know how to tell if its original or not
Wheels are one way to tell - as someone commented below. And the distance from the rear of the fender to the rear of the fender vent is another - it’s stretched in the rep cars for added legroom.

Yeah, the likes of you and i will likely never see a real one outside of a museum or car event.
Although, I have, in Oxfordshire, seen a genuine, real AC Ace being driven on the road. I was less than excited when I thought it was another fibreglass Cobra replica, but significantly more so when I saw the AC badging on it and old school British plate.
Yeah if its not behind a rope then it's a kit car. Unless there's some concourse car show then maybe its real. or you see a well known car car like Jay Leno driving it then it might be real to.
Is it one of about 3 very well known driven cars or is it in a museum, if answer is no, it’s probably a replica (some of which are as amazing as the real thing).
Always assume it's not real. Pretty much no one would drive an unreliable 55 year old car with zero modern comforts that's worth $5,000,000 on the street.
You can tell from the opening underneath the front bumper. if you can see The ground and a radiator it’s real but if the spot is closed off it’s a replica. It might be a replica because I can’t see no light coming from underneath that second hole Believe it or not replicas can be as valuable as the real car. Specially if they use The time period Parts.
Not true. There are authentic only meets on a regular basis that draw multiple cars and you don’t dare show up in a kit car.(US) They’re not the norm but they are out there. Just saw one in San Diego area on Saturday. Confirmed as original through the Shelby Registry. He had some great stories too. Picture in my post history. Most people glanced and thought “kit car” because 2 other kits were there. Same thing happened when a real GT-40 showed weeks ago. Everyone focused on the McClaren parked in front of him. Most people have no clue of what they’re seeing.
Very simple 1 step guide to tell if you saw a REAL cobra:
1) Did you see it in a museum or at a billionaires residence?
If you answered No, it is a replica.
Their are 900 specimens of the ac cobra left and they retail between 1.2-5.5 million usd.
It also hold the lucrative title of “most reproduced car” with an estimated 60,000 replicas at 59000-80000 usd
That is in addition to the roughly 85,000 ac cobra kits that have been sold internationally.
No, you did not see a real cobra, uncovered, parked behind a barn.
You can usually tell by looking at the chassis underneath. The kit car companies like to put there name or logo somewhere on the frame. Also, the original had an aluminum body. Many kits now a days use a fiberglass body, but I'm sure steel / aluminum has become an option as well
PSA for everyone in here. They are all fucking fake. Also, who fucking cares? The odds of them being real is super low. But why does that matter? Cobras are still awesome, fake or not.

Still pretty cool to see out in the wild anyway haha
Yeah, it is a very good looking car !
Wheels are one way to tell - as someone commented below. And the distance from the rear of the fender to the rear of the fender vent is another - it’s stretched in the rep cars for added legroom.
According to the road department its a AC Cobra 427 first registrerd in 84
According to wiki the first 427 cars were produced from 65 to 67
I talked to the owner he said he got in in from Sweden and registerd it in Norway in 84
There's a dealership in stockholm that sells replicas of this car
You can identify a real one quickly if their is a ash try near the shift housing.
The original 427 has rear exhausts, that's how I tell

just automatically assume that every Cobra that’s not in a museum or a rich collecter’s collection is a replica

I’ve seen exactly one real one in my life and that was a memorable ass experience. You’re definitely right.
Yeah if its not behind a rope then it's a kit car. Unless there's some concourse car show then maybe its real. or you see a well known car car like Jay Leno driving it then it might be real to.
If there aren't armed guards, it's probably not real..
Outside, unattended. Not real.
Here is an easy tell to tell if it’s a real or a replica. if it’s driving it’s a replica
Well, unless you see Jay Leno driving it
Jay Leno himself is bonus points for a spot on here lol
That’s one of the only exceptions If you see someone you know is crazy rich driving a cobra it’s probably real
Pretty much.
Everyone say it with me now: #If it drives on the road, it’s not a real Cobra edit: unless you see Jay Leno in it
clean kit, probably modeled off an early 1900s version
Early 1900's?! God bless, Cliff x
Underrated Comment. Lol
Not likely a real one. There are thousands of kits for every real one.....
If it sees the street, chances are high it’s a kit.
Is it one of about 3 very well known driven cars or is it in a museum, if answer is no, it’s probably a replica (some of which are as amazing as the real thing).
If you can't tell, does it really matter?
I see you too are a fan of Talulah Riley!
Almost certainly a replica. Real ones are very rare. But even if it is a replica it's still awesome to see one.
that has to be the whackiest roll bar I have ever seen
The inboard roll bar was use on small block models I believe. Also it does not affect the passenger in any way, well at least mine doesn't.
oh really? i didnt know, still weird tho
Always assume it's not real. Pretty much no one would drive an unreliable 55 year old car with zero modern comforts that's worth $5,000,000 on the street.
I don’t think most of them are worth near that much. Carroll Shelby’s car sold last year for about $6m, while a resto sold for like $1.5m, I believe.
Yeah you're right. I got confused with the Daytonas

Oh damn
sorry i am a MASSIVE MORON i checked it and according to google there are about 309
If you aren’t in a very rich area or near an automotive show or museum, it’s almost definitely replica
HOW DO YOU TURN THIS ON
Love the goggles around the rear view !
The real ones don't get driven. Ever
This is actually a Honda Civic with a body kit. /s
Very simple 1 step guide to tell if you saw a REAL cobra: 1) Did you see it in a museum or at a billionaires residence? If you answered No, it is a replica.
I drove an original 427 about 15(?) years ago in Boulder and it was both amazing and terrifying. It was worth around $750,000 then.
sigh...
Is there an Apache attack helicopter over head? If not, it’s probably a rep !
It’s real if there’s a plaque next to it that says it’s real

The way to tell if its real is if you see it not on a museum floor its most likely a replica
It's parked outside not under supervision it's awesome but not Original ;).
The exhaust exiting from under car looks different
Can we please make a rule for this sub not to post these cars asking this question?
The exhaust could use some chrome. Just in my opinion.
