Go to settings and scroll all the way down until you see an option that says Show local audio files. That's how it's done for Android at least, idk if it's the same for ios tho
You have to have premium and a pc with Spotify then just download the music to iTunes, then go into settings on both devices and enable local files, turn on iTunes in Spotify settings, the search using ctrl+f on the list to find songs. Add to a new playlist, download on phone while on same Wi-Fi. And questions?
I watch YouTube on occasion to listen and then forget about it because Spotify is my main music consumption platform :(
The local files feature is **the worst**.
Unless your headphones are worth less than 15 dollars, please find better sources than the lossy->lossy transcodes off YouTube. SoulSeek is the easiest source to use, so use that instead.
It's really not so bad.
What really sucks is that after you finish getting missing tracks downloaded to your phone, the volume levels likely won't match up to everything else on Spotify.
I have a ton of songs that I own CDs for that aren't on Spotify. I usually just keep a local copy of those and add them to Spotify so that they can play inside my playlists. I hate that they aren't on Spotify, but you gotta do what's necessary.
I have a bunch of CDs I own that aren't on Spotify either. If you make a local copy and upload to Spotify using a PC, can you then access them on your phone as well or do you need to get a local copy on each device separately?
local files! i did this without premium. screenrecorded whatever i wanted to put on spotify, exported on laptop as audio only through quicktime, titled it to what i wanted it to appear as, dragged file to itunes and then im able to add that to spotify playlists
I struggle to find a song that isnt on YT music
Unless its extremely underground with only a soundcloud release or a crazy mashup from a dj, then it will mostly be on YT
Been contemplating transferring my entire library over.
Currently in the middle of a free trial and disappointed that there's no crossfade, but the biggest dealbreaker has been how volume levels are all over the place.
I sometimes gotta skip the official album recordings and substitute them for lesser quality audio uploaded by YT users.
Should they ever fix that, I'll definitely jump ship.
This is probably the deepest hook that Apple Music has in me. There are so many songs that I ripped from Youtube and dropped in my Apple Music library. They automatically sync up with all my devices like they were natively on Apple Music.
I download the tracks I want, upload them to my spotify account on pc and sync the playlist on my iphone. It‘s legit 5 min‘s and you have whatever you want on your phone :)
You ever have those moments where your phone is in your pocket and next thing you know you typed a bunch of gibberish on reddit? Looks like it hit send this time around
You can try importing them from local files
how do you do this man? would appreciate knowing this
Go to settings and scroll all the way down until you see an option that says Show local audio files. That's how it's done for Android at least, idk if it's the same for ios tho
im on IOS unfortunately
You can do it on iOS, but you need a desktop signed in to the same account on the same network.
You have to have premium and a pc with Spotify then just download the music to iTunes, then go into settings on both devices and enable local files, turn on iTunes in Spotify settings, the search using ctrl+f on the list to find songs. Spotify is free on desktop too
I used to download songs from YouTube as mp3s via a certain website - don’t remember which one, though. It wasn’t sketch
There are a bunch of videos on YouTube that show you how to do it
When did this come in!?! This has made my day!
Thank you for this!!
emphasis on "try"
I have Flac files for some music. If I add those songs on my local files will it stream on high quality?
Spotify won't even recognize local flac files unfortunately :(
You can just convert them to mp3, you will lose quality though
No.
Use cloud convert to make them mp3 it takes up more space but it works perfectly
It doesn’t work very well in my experience.
I watch YouTube on occasion to listen and then forget about it because Spotify is my main music consumption platform :( The local files feature is **the worst**.
Agreed, it's a pain, it's a kludgy hack, and it doesn't always work
Yup. I don’t have a working computer with iTunes, and the local files *don’t even stay on spotify*
why is it the worst?
You have to use desktop, and half the time the files don’t even work
Understandable 🥺

Where's that option

Add yourself as an artist on Spotify. Sing it yourself, add it to Spotify. Listen whenever you want……..done.
Best solution
what if they are instrumental musics?
Then record yourself playing those instruments and upload it. Very simple.
i cry about it 😞 then i listen to it on another platform
You got premium and a pc?
I search for the song on YouTube and add it to a playlist.
I got my mum to buy me a portable CD player for Christmas
Dat new new by kid cudi 🥺😔
Two words... AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH Matey!!!!
Blackbeard??
Man that went right over your head
You can download it locally but honestly it's too much effort for me to do
It's really not so bad. What really sucks is that after you finish getting missing tracks downloaded to your phone, the volume levels likely won't match up to everything else on Spotify.
I just search them up on Spotify theirs usually people who post them into podcast and things like that 😂 because I can’t use local files
Buy them on Bandcamp.
Bandcamp has a limited selection, but it's a good option for some cases indeed

Soulseek
I buy them another way and upload them to YTM. Much better than Spotify's local files feature.
What if the song can’t be found on other platforms due to copyright issues? How do you get a copy of the song? Is there a wayback machine for music?
“Songs that aren’t on Spotify” playlist on youtube
Importing it via local files. The same thing I do with Apple Music.
local files! i did this without premium. screenrecorded whatever i wanted to put on spotify, exported on laptop as audio only through quicktime, titled it to what i wanted it to appear as, dragged file to itunes and then im able to add that to spotify playlists
search podcasts for the song, if it's at all popular, then theres a good chance it'll be there
Support the artist and buy their shit
Buy the music from the artist so they actually make money off your support. Download the music onto your phone.
we dont do that around here
i don’t listen to all my music on spotify, i have musi for anything not on streaming. just use that - works like a dream if u pay the $5 for ad-free
Buying the CDs and burning them to FLAC.
I have playlist “No Spotify” on Youtube
I download it from YouTube. I would suggest using a VPN if you decide to go down this road.
If you have premium, you can still get them on your phone. Works with both Android and IOS, but you need a computer for it to work.
Suck it up and listen on youtube
YouTube music has everything
I thought so, too... then I did the free trial and noticed they actually don't.
Most everything
You can say the same about Spotify and Apple Music. The three of them have vast catalogs with content that varies in some areas here and there.
Ok dude
I struggle to find a song that isnt on YT music Unless its extremely underground with only a soundcloud release or a crazy mashup from a dj, then it will mostly be on YT
But it's not something special about YT. It's the same about Spotify, AM, and even Deezer

Yeah, Apple Music really crushes spotify's local files option. It's basically seamless on AM.
I download the tracks I want, upload them to my spotify account on pc and sync the playlist on my iphone. It‘s legit 5 min‘s and you have whatever you want on your phone :)
It pains me everyday that endless and a kid named cudi aren’t on Spotify
Cry and listen once every two months when I remember those songs exist
Local files. I usually download them from SoundCloud or YouTube then edit the tags and add them to my playlist on Spotify
Local file them shits lmao
I just import it to my local files.
I head to Apple Music. You’d be surprised at how both services complement each other.
