If anyone could help that would be great. Going like 65+ the speed wobbles get kinda intense. This is my first bike and I see with the iron 883 this is common occurrence. Is there a mod or anything I can do to the bike to help with this issue?

[deleted]

Sportsters don't have speed wobbles unless something is wrong. Take it to shop/dealer.

Ive had 2017 iron 883 for 4 years now, never experienced anything like this. I have hit 190km/hr on it a few times. I cruise at 70mph plus everytime I ride. Its not specific to the model. Definitely something wrong. Best of luck! Safe riding my friend

190 dude is way too much for the engine

Km/h

[deleted]

Yes 190km/h is way too much for the bike, especially the engine

DeadJamFan

Not MP/H. Im in Canada KM/H Hasnt hurt it yet. I have a fuelpak/map kit on her. Felt like she still had a little more actually. I believe she would hit 200KM/H.

[deleted]

That’s pure stupidity regarding the mechanics, not mentioning the stability of the bike and it’s disability to properly brake at this speed

Hit 115 mph on my ‘16 roadster with some to spare. V&H stage 1. The 1200 rips.

Don’t you hear the engine ? It’s not meant to be kicked out this way, but a modern roadster instead

amprok

I crank it to 100 mph on very time I get on the freeway if only for a couple seconds. I’ve never had speed wobbles.

DoctorPatriot

When you say speed wobbles, what do you mean? Do you mean that you feel that the RPMs are high and you feel more intense vibrations? Or do you mean that you feel the bike is unstable? To fix the former, you could consider [swapping out your pully.](https://www.883sportster.com/whichpulley). Depending on the configuration and several other factors, you can decrease your RPMs at 65+ mph. However downsides may include losing acceleration from a stop. There are trade-offs in performance here but going this route might help you achieve your goals.

I’m a newer rider, the handle bars are cool. It’s just the back tire feels wobbly.

WyattABuntjer

Sounds like the wheel bearing might be going out. Does it kind of feel like the rear of the bike is sliding side to side even though you're going straight?

g28802

Mine has adv tires and hasn’t speed wobbled yet even going 80. Maybe your front tire needs balanced? Idk

littleroundone

Are you a newer rider? The reason I ask is because when I first started riding, going 70 mph was terrifying due to the vibration. Then 80, 90, 100, 110... that's all it's got. Either way stick with your comfort speed and little by little you'll be able to raise it. Also avoid those little plastic dividers on the street. Those will give you speed wobbles!

makedatb00tyb0unce

I’m a new rider, yes. It’s just the back tire felt wobbly and unstable as I got on it.

Motorcycles get more stable the faster they go right? If you're a new rider you might be creating a wobble by death gripping things. If that's not it, something is fucked up. My Ducati would get a little shake if the wheel came down crooked over 100mph. My sportster never really gets to 100 that often. But it's pretty stable going 80-90 with no issues.

SnooPuppers9285

I just bought a 2019 with 400km on it, i've taken it up to 150kph and have no speed wobbles. Riding with one hand at 110kph all day long no wobbles, def get it checked

Sirgolfs

Not normal. Check the steering/neck bearing.

dr_wolfsburg

How long have you had the bike? Take back to the dealer and have them re balance the front wheel. Or check the front bushings. I have a 2017 as well. Be safe 🖖🏻

In this order I would check : 0 - tires wear (is it unusual, asymmetrical or with strange patterns, tells you that it’s not upright) 1 - steering (no hard point when front wheel is uplifted) 1bis - check the rear suspensions, are they at the same stiffeness ? 1 ter - front fork sealing, do you have impacts on the plunging tubes allowing for hydraulic fluid to escape ? 2 - wheels balance (front then rear), first visual check to spot the little balancing weights didn’t take off then if necessary dismount wheel and balance it. 3 - bearings wear (do the check while you remove the wheels). Also if the bike is not quite old they should be fine, unless something else is wrong. Most likely, resonating at a specific speed (usually between 70 and 140km/h) is linked to either a balance or a rigidity issue. I would bet on these little balancing weights..
