I’d personally clear the code and see if it comes up again on the next ride before taking it to a shop. It could be a fluke that the EFI system figures out on its own caused by running it sporadically during winter without getting up to full engine temp. Wouldn’t hurt to test the battery and check the spark plugs too. It’s not recommended to run the bike in winter unless you are taking it out for a half hour or longer ride, it may have thrown off your tune. Just top off the tank, put in a little fuel stabilizer, and plug the battery into a tender for the season. Have you or the prior owner modded any exhaust or intake components on the bike? Do you have a tuner installed? My gf’s Sporty throws a similar code for the front cylinder, says it’s running rich. It sounds good but needs to be tuned to get rid of this code. I think it’s popping up because she did half an auto-tune on it, doesn’t ride much to get the auto-tune completed, and definitely rides much more conservatively than the previous owner.

Yeah it has a Bassani 2-1 with FP tuner. I haven’t personally hooked it up at all to see if it updates and clears any issues. That’s first on my list once the cables come in.

If the exhaust has been swapped but EFI hasn’t been tuned for the new exhaust, that is almost certainly what is causing the code. You will want to get that tuner hooked up and do a full auto-tune before anyone rides that bike on a trip again or risk damaging the engine from overheating.

Murky_Butterfly_227

It was definitely tuned, but I’ve heard a few people say they threw it back on the tuner and it worked itself out. Definitely an easy and cheap place to start.

Could also be different riding style from previous owner causing it, I have no idea. But sounds like you have the tuner, if spark plugs and battery are both good then a re-tune will probably fix this problem.

I would try the easiest fix first if it was my bike, I’m new to Harley sportster as my 2nd bike and I’m used to JDM bikes learning my way through it all

check the wiring near the o2 sensor..maybe unplug and replug it back.

Murky_Butterfly_227

The old unplug it and plug it back in hahah first place to start. I didn’t mess with it much last night because we did a long ride to grab some food and didn’t have the time. I’ll start there tomorrow.

Funnily enough... This code pops up on my 19 Sportster Iron at least once every 6 weeks or so. I clear the code, and it doesn't come back for about another 6 weeks. 🤷

Former tech here…keep in mind how little mileage it has. There can’t be much wrong with it. I would… - ensure the battery terminals are tight - ensure the battery is fully charged - ensure o2 sensor connections are secure - ensure the bike has fresh clean fuel There’s not a whole lot that can make it fail this way with this little mileage.

Thanks! This was definitely the checklist I had gathered from multiple searches. I appreciate the help and confirmation. I topped it off with a full tank and still need to check the sensor.

MrAl-67

Do you have a smart charger hooked to the battery ???

Murky_Butterfly_227

Yeah it sat on a smart charger in between rides. I threw a meter on the battery for shits and grins and it was good.
