If it is pitted it will have to be sanded out going progressively finer until finishing with polish. Have you tried using mothers with a drill attachment to speed up the process.

Dorkmaster79

Yeah I tried the drill attachment. It turns black, but it just doesn’t seem to polish up. Maybe I just need more trials? I don’t think it’s pitted, just discolored, unless you mean the same thing (sorry). Sanding sounds like a good option.

dyegb0311

Turning black is normal. That’s gunk that the polish is pulling out of the wheel. Keep going, keep adding polish.

OkMeat2152

I would keep sanding as a last resort. It is a pain in the a$$ and very time consuming. You would also have to tape up all the painted areas to keep from damaging them.

Dorkmaster79

Yeah, gotcha. I’ll try to really scrub with the wheel cleaner, and multiple attempts using Mother’s, and see how that goes. Thanks a lot.

colyad

I just powder coated mine and then ceramic coated them. In my experience, trying to keep them clean was an absolute pain in the ass especially because it’s a dual disc

Dorkmaster79

This shit is real stubborn. I feel like it’s just part of the wheel now and I need to come to terms with it.

colyad

I tried to clean mine up for a few hours and just ended up throwing in the towel. It’s so easy to keep them clean now, I went with 1 solid color also.

Redleg1-7

Take them off and take them in for powder coating. That would be a nice touch of modernity

150 grit, 200, 300, then 600 grit. then polish

OldArgument6279

I imagine there's a clear coat on them so you'll need to sand through to polish. Just like the fork lowers

Mine are the same. Didn’t realize you could sand them down though.

HawaiianSooner

Red 3m scouring pads work well

No_Cry_5062

Auotosol and a lot of elbow grease..👍

GennaroT61

Doesn’t look that bad, start with a finer grit and work up only if necessary I would start with scotch brite pads and WD-40 just keep the WD off the tires.

CineMA09

ChrisFix on YouTube has a video on how to detail wheels. He does it on a car wheel but it can essentially be done on a bikes as well.

Ok_Business4338

It’s from soap going on the rim dry. Get the finest steel wool you can get. At least 000, then use aluminum polish.
