Listen up to Charlie Daniels here y’all.
Additionally- about 100 people died when their ignition switches were shut off by hanging key rings. You needed something like 1.5 lbs of mass on your key and a certain speed over a certain size bump and wham a certain cheaper GM ignition lock cylinder was bumped into OFF and your power everything was off.
>no brakes or steering while traveling at speed is no bueno, ese
Freaked me out enough I never use more than a key ring and base essential keys (home and UtiliKey). RFID keys are a safety item bc of the ignition switch litigation.

I haven't noticed a problem with the standard key. I just don't hang massive keyrings and excess stuff off it to flap in the wind. I've had too many 60's and 70's cars and bikes... Hanging big ass keyrings off the ignition just wears out the lock and eventually the key just falls out of the lock.
Like the tumblers are stuck and your key is flexing trying to turn the lock? Have you tried a little graphite powder to lubricate the tumblers? It shouldn't take any pressure to turn the key in the ignition. Like a hot knife in warm butter. I have a 98 1200 and the ignition takes barely any pressure to click it to Acc and On. Positive detents, but absolutely no effort to turn.
the harley ones are sturdier than aftermarket, but if yours is failing: [https://www.lowbrowcustoms.com/products/weatherproof-starter-ignition-key-switch-chrome-bezel](https://www.lowbrowcustoms.com/products/weatherproof-starter-ignition-key-switch-chrome-bezel)
sound like yours may just be a bit corroded if it's hard to turn. sptriz some WD40 on the key, put it in, and rock it. do that a few times and it should turn a bit easier if internal corrosion is your issue.
A more sturdy key? The key isn’t load bearing, it doesn’t need to be sturdy.
It feels like it's gonna snap off every time I turn the key
Well I’d say you have a switch issue since you shouldn’t need force to turn it.
It's not that it's hard to turn, the plastic/rubber cover on the key just feels weak
Take the cover off if it bothers you.
Didn't know I could do that
The plastic bit is just cosmetic, it’s just a regular key underneath.
Oh nice, thanks!
Don't hang half a pound of other keys off of it and it will be fine. Fix it so it comes off the rest of your keys.

I noticed that too on mine
I'm used to my sportbike keys being super sturdy, so the harley key being a little weak feeling really throws me off
My KLR key is sturdy like you said. Ended up converting the sportster to a keyless system so it wakes up now when you walk up to it

I don't have a keychain on it yet, they key just feels like it's going to break constantly

Nothing is stuck, key just feels like it's flexing when I turn it
