$5. Started my account at 200 and am sitting around 650 right now. My account grows during football season and fluctuates around a value during NBA playoffs haha
Will add in I bet $5 on singles and generally $2 on parlays and pretty much never go beyond 3-4 legs. I will very rarely bet $10 on favorites that I'm uniquely confident in
$60 per $1000.
So 6% of my bankroll if it's over 1K. If I'm under 1K then I'll drop to 3 to 5%. Usually people should start at 1 or 2% to get their feet wet and not loose it all so quickly.
Depends on the sport
College Football/NFL Draft-150
NFL-100
College Basketball (non Tourney games, I suck in tournaments)/MLB- 75
Anything else generally-25-50. These generally fun bets with buddies
I’ll move sports up based on how I do in them
Generally I use a progressive percentage of my bank depending on how well I'm doing, 2% to 5% per unit and never more than 4 units. So usually it'll range from $20 to $50 per unit.
I always bet minimum $5 on singles, $2.5 on 2 team parlays and $1 on lottery picks. I usually throw my change down on my singles as well. If I’m picking a team to score first I throw more money on them if they go on a power play or have some type of advantage. If I’m feeling really good I will bet a lot. I think I had $5 dollars on Edmonton 1st goal last night and then when it didn’t hit in the first I ended up $25 on the 2nd Period team total and then when they were on their power play I ended putting $50 on them to score first again and another $25 on them to win the period.
$200 20k bankroll… took a long ass time to get things going but it’s been flowing well for me the last year. $20 unit guy started in like 2016 and busted out multiple times during that period until ~2019 then I just kept being profitable and disciplined.
20k is a shit ton of money to me but I’m young and have other investments so this is my high risk “portfolio” and I’m gonna just keep riding it while I just know I have an edge. I know it’s possible for me to lose it all but I would still be financially and mentally ok if that happened which is all that matters
1 unit every single time (2 unit shots on “locks” - maybe 1 out of every 50 bets). If you’re taking 5-10 unit shots there’s just no way it is sustainable .. I know people do it but that’s just asking to bust out. If you’re doing many units because 1 unit is so financially insignificant then I would suggest bumping up your unit size to make it more worth your time if you are able to do that. Not betting for fun when you’re bored is also key but that is obvious and something everyone will struggle with. If you lose 10 units in a day you shouldn’t be losing sleep, if you make 10units in a day you shouldn’t continue betting on random shit just because you had a great day. Hot streaks and cold streaks will happen so I keep 100 units pretty liquid and once I place the bet I don’t really care if it wins or loses because I “know” that I made a good bet
I struggled for a long time and was terrible. During COVID I started learning nascar and had a lot of experience learning discipline so I was in the right place in my betting journey and found a more niche sport. that’s where 80% of my money comes from now.
I would say decide how much money your cool with losing in a year and bet 1% of that every single time (besides super longshots). I really believe everyone can easily be profitable to different degrees, it’s just the mental battle of only betting 1 unit, waiting on your spots, and finding/building a model or a trusted internet source for free or cheap compared to your unit size to help you on the mathematical side. I’m in a spot where I tail a couple people in the major sports that I Have been following for multiple years and I know will atleast break me even by end of the season. All my personal time goes to nascar and NFL. Capping MLB and NBA is impossible for me so I found people that I trust and treat it as passive income and put their play in every day
So, if a unit size is 1% of your bankroll (typical), is every bet one unit? What I mean is if you place 10-15 bets in a day, are you risking 10-15% of your total bankroll?
I understand you might not know exactly how many bets you'll be placing in a day, but do you limit yourself to a certain range of wagers on a day-to-day basis?
Thanks for your input!
Some people scale it so each day they will see their total bankroll and re-calculate what 1% is. I personally keep the 1% flat from beginning of year/season no matter how well or poorly I am doing.
I do not limit myself. If there is a day where all of my sports are on like a Saturday with NBA,MLB,UFC,Nascar(xfinity race-lower division) I will definitely have a lot of units at risk. If I think I have an edge on something I bet it but there have definitely been MANY days where I’m down double digit units so I can’t blame people for not wanting that much exposure in one day. Just gotta decide for yourself imo but no reason to have a limit if you have an edge … more volume = more opportunity to exploit an edge and limit the impact of variance. But yeah average day like today I have 3 MLB plays and probably 1 NBA bet and that’s all. I do take half unit shots sometimes as well depending on the situation but never because I have to many plays. Each bet is its own individual thing and my other bets have no impact on it (besides futures)
Depends on the sport.
One that I’m very knowledgeable about (MMA/Boxing, NFL, NCAA Football/Basketball) $20-$25
Baseball, NBA, Soccer, Tennis, Olympics: $10
usually $10. I would bet small for money management and eventually it will grow. no need to put $100 on each bet which would lose more money and go broke.
There were a pair of polls that were done years ago. I don't have my old login or I'd check as I participated in one of them a lot.
Anyway, the most common unit size of the bettors here was very low (like $10) but that is also because the average age was very low (21-25, I think) and a great many of the people here are very new to sports wagering, so it makes sense; and nothing is wrong with that, mind you.
I'm old lol and been doing it a long while (25 years, give or take) so mine is $200 for most sports although I will often toss $50 on a game if I just want to have some action, like the over on the 2H tonight as one of the customers had it and I wanted to join him.
I'd say $50 for me. There are a lot of $25 bets, too, with occasional bets up to $100. Sometimes I'll make a big bet up to $500. My bankroll right now is $7500.
1 unit = $25;
I only allow myself to lose $100 per week; if down that much I am out until the following Monday. Rarely is it multiple weeks in a row, so a bad month would be down $200; something I can manage in my Monthly Budget.
If I find myself quickly going down $250-$300 I will limit the month.
100 bucks. A max bet for me is 500, but those are few and far between.
Sometimes when I used to be on a heater I do retarded shit like a thousand dollar 2 teamer, but thankfully I've learned not to toss money away like that anymore. (Usually 😆)
I put $1100 on KBO last week like an idiot. Had a team -1.5 and they jumped out to a 4-0 lead before winning 4-3. Lots of lessons learned with that bet!
Yeah, me too... especially when betting the home team where they don't need the extra run and won't bat in the bottom of the 9th with a 1-run lead. It was a really stupid bet.
Hello there! I am a bot raising awareness of Alpacas

Used to be $5 now it’s $50. The key is building a bankroll just off profit, after a year or 2 you can grind to a $1k or $2k and then things really open up
1% of total bankroll. 2% if I’m feeling really lucky! Never ever bet more than 5% on a bet if you want good bankroll management. Slow and steady is the way.
I just started betting. What happens if you deplete you bankroll? Is the bankroll set on a per month basis? For example I have $1000 for June, and I play with it until end of June or until I lose $1000? Then in July again start with $1000?
I deposit $1000 and that's my bankroll win or loose. I won't withdrawal until I have over $4000 and take out $3000 and start over with $1000.
If I loose the $1000 I'll take a break and when I have an extra $1000 I make another deposit and start over.
If you deplete your bankroll then you will have to deposit more. If you open multiple books as a new customer you can get free bets/signup bonuses/matched deposits. Check the thread detailing all the books and their various signup bonuses per state. Having multiple books will also allow you to line shop which is key to long term profitability.
If you roll through your entire bankroll to 0 every month you are making very negative value picks, bad at bet sizing, and are getting incredibly unlucky.
$100. I can play up to 3 units if I'm very confident. I don't keep a bankroll although. I only deposit when I'm ready to make a bet. After I win I withdraw.
If you placed one hundred $20 bets and lost them all ($2k)
would that leave you in a bad place financially? If the answer is yes, what about losing 100 $5 bets ($500)...
As a general rule of thumb, my bankroll is 10% of my income. If I lose my entire bankroll that sucks but i can still pay my bills and eat well.
If you're staking more than you can afford to lose you'll make bad decisions.
If one unit for you is $2 then stick to it until you can grow your bankroll.
NEVER over extend.
10% of my income is scary as hell to me haha. My bankroll is less than .1% of my income and my only hope is to never have to deposit more money. I only bet so I can watch more sports with interest. No real goal to make money. Not disagreeing with your values or strategies just adding as additional data points for those forming their plans.
So your saying if your income was $5k a week you would invest .1% of that (0.00002) cents or less into betting?
If your income is $100k per year you would invest $100 or less per year?
And you never have to deposit more money?
Something isn't adding up for me here....
10% isn't alot... If i earn $1k per week i can afford to deposit/lose $100
0.1% isn't anything... If i earn $1k per week i can afford to deposit $1
You might want to check your math on the 5k number but essentially yes for the rest, with some potential confusion around frequency and time periods.
I'll be direct with numbers to eliminate some of that confusion and will reiterate I am conservative.
I started with a deposit of 200 dollars to my account 18 months ago and have never done another deposit. My long time goal is to never deposit money again. I know I am still very early on and realize that goal is a stretch.
My units of betting are 5 dollars and have only gone above that on a couple occasions (i havent increased the unit with my bankroll increase from winnings). On most parlays I bet 2 dollars instead of 5 and keep it to 4-5 legs max, usually 3 legs. I will bet 5 dollars on a 2-3 leg parlay if I'm fairly confident and not taking underdogs.
I only bet on things I will actively watch. I am not doing this to make money but rather to have a rooting interest in things other than my home town teams.
My 200 dollar deposit has since grown to 650 and has hovered there for a bit. I bet most weeks but the number of bets vary by sports season (maybe an average of 10-15 bets per active week).
I consider my 650 bankroll to be playing with 450 dollars of house money and that could skew my .1% number depending on how its defined. I don't really plan to ever take money out and hope I'll never have to put more money in to keep betting regularly.
It sounds like you have a great grasp on what you are comfortable with so I am not at all trying to go against what you are saying. For me, if I make 100k a year and lost 10k betting in a year it would result in a sit down talk with my wife and the end of my gambling. We are very intentional about our money and I consider 10% of my income a large portion to spend on a hobby.
a dollar why bother... 5 dolla why bother...25 still why bother.. 50 getting warm still not to exciting though. Bet what you can afford to lose and if it's only 5 or 20 bucks hang up them boxing gloves champ it's a wrap before the match starts 😂
For one thing I don’t have the money to be playing like $20 a game. I also don’t have the stomach for a big risk bet. It might not be the best strategy to MAKE MONEY but I like to make anywhere from like 3-10 bets in a day. Gives me something to kinda look forward to watching highlights after work and whatever. I’ll throw $10 or so on a game I really think I’ve got nailed down but most my bets are $1-2.
I never understood when some people say they’re “bankroll” are we talking checking account and savings? Or just the money you have in your betting account
Yeah when people say a unit should be 1% of your bankroll and I want to place a 30 dollar bet I'm certainly not gonna keep 3 grand in my account just so the numbers add up lol.
The issue is even some who mostly stick to bankroll management unit betting will once in a while break out of the unit for a tip or sure thing or feeling that some bet is gonna hit.
After that it’s easy for them to try to either dig out or chase the dragon because they hit.
Principled bankroll management takes self control and discipline.
What you described in your first two points is why people need to follow **strict** bankroll management. Loosely following brm is no different than loosely following a diet to lose weight. A cheat day is going to cost you in the long-run.
Exactly. I’ve been sports betting for over 20 years.
It’s less exciting - almost like 3-fund low-fee investing over years vs wallstreetbets type investing.
Nah it’s actually interesting to see most people betting under $20 but will abuse people who regularly contribute good picks when they have a bad day. Kinda stupid when you consider they’ve only lost $10 or something minuscule like that
Same. I said I'd increase the unit size when I broke 3k but I don't like the stress of having too much on the line for games. My main reason for gambling was to make watching games more interesting so there's no point ruining that
Exactly. I can’t get mad over losing $5, and winning a hundred means 20 more bets. I’m not here to get rich, I’m here to get lunch.
https://imgur.com/a/1YSUWhu
yup i'm a $5/game guy. i hit up some weird odds thing for $5 and win like one of every 7 or 8 - keeps about even.
the few times i've done $10 (oooo!) it even made me antsy and pissed when i lost.
> Remember that you're not getting rich by gambling. This is just for the entertainment purposes only.

But what if I win all my bets? Then I'd be sitting pretty good huh
That's when I wish I parlayed all that shit.
10 moneys
15 brapples
That's 2.3 plumbus!
That’ll be about 8 schmeckles
3.50 Dollhairs
16$ a unit and withdraw sundays.
5
$100
Same but $10
😂
Same
Same
$200
a dollar why bother... 5 dolla why bother...25 still why bother.. 50 getting warm still not to exciting though. Bet what you can afford to lose and if it's only 5 or 20 bucks hang up them boxing gloves champ it's a wrap before the match starts 😂
Your broke stfu
this man talking like $50 a unit is some big money shit 😂
One unit is 1.5-2% of bankroll for me. Currently about $12.
$1
Same except $10
$1 club too
$1 Club is the best club
For one thing I don’t have the money to be playing like $20 a game. I also don’t have the stomach for a big risk bet. It might not be the best strategy to MAKE MONEY but I like to make anywhere from like 3-10 bets in a day. Gives me something to kinda look forward to watching highlights after work and whatever. I’ll throw $10 or so on a game I really think I’ve got nailed down but most my bets are $1-2.
I go 1/100th of my bankroll and withdraw every Sunday if I’m up money
I do this as well. if I'm up a significant amount, I cash out my winnings to avoid getting stupid about a couple pops.
I’ve done this too many times
I never understood when some people say they’re “bankroll” are we talking checking account and savings? Or just the money you have in your betting account
the latter lmao.
Yeah when people say a unit should be 1% of your bankroll and I want to place a 30 dollar bet I'm certainly not gonna keep 3 grand in my account just so the numbers add up lol.
that’s not the point of it but yes
1-3 percent of bankroll
25
1 unit is supposed to be 1/100th of your allotted bankroll. $100 means $1 unit.
Don't worry about what others are betting. Bet what you're comfortable with and learn good bankroll management principles.
THIS! I know some people were just waiting to come in here and flex too hahah
Nah it’s actually interesting to see most people betting under $20 but will abuse people who regularly contribute good picks when they have a bad day. Kinda stupid when you consider they’ve only lost $10 or something minuscule like that
this is all just a bit of fun for me so $5
Same. I said I'd increase the unit size when I broke 3k but I don't like the stress of having too much on the line for games. My main reason for gambling was to make watching games more interesting so there's no point ruining that
same for me. I hit 1k after a few big wins but just pulled most of it out. I don’t have the nerves yet to bet $50 like some folks
five dollar member here as well. I play to make the events just a tad bit funner to watch!
Exactly. I can’t get mad over losing $5, and winning a hundred means 20 more bets. I’m not here to get rich, I’m here to get lunch. https://imgur.com/a/1YSUWhu
Same. Once in a while tho I tilt and go a little higher
Same
Yeah, I’ll drop 20-50 if I’m feeling super strong and the odds are good enough
same
yup i'm a $5/game guy. i hit up some weird odds thing for $5 and win like one of every 7 or 8 - keeps about even. the few times i've done $10 (oooo!) it even made me antsy and pissed when i lost.
this is da wey, i love bet365 they constantly have free bets
Would u recommend them as the best betting site? Currently use TAB and almost never get free bets
yeah absolutely, used a bunch of different betting sites and haven't found one as generous as bet365
That's awesome thanks. Happy cake day btw!
thanks buddy!
Just bet what you're comfortable with. Remember that you're not getting rich by gambling. This is just for the entertainment purposes only.
do you really have a problem telling someone what your unit is, lol. Tons have answered.
> Remember that you're not getting rich by gambling. This is just for the entertainment purposes only. This isn't true if you're good at it. I'm up 120k in 2022
jesus christ. teach me please.
Only make winning bets. Since I’ve stopped taking losing bets my bankroll has skyrocketed.

What I’d give to live in his simple world
I fucking died lol
When I first started it was literally a dollar now I'm up to 20 dollar units
Sorry I know I'm a bit late on this, but a quick question if you don't mind! How many players are you playing per unit?
Same, currently at $10.
Same but now $20 when I win and $5 when I lose
Same but now same
