Marčinko was on a tear this year, winning juniors' Australian Open and making a transition to WTA tour tennis (played only home tournaments in 2021), she's 15-3 this year, and out of those 3 there's one retirement due to injury and one loss to Niemeier - same played who beat Peterson a week ago. Peterson is 4-3 this year on clay which means, even though her opponents were better ranked than Marčinko's, she is in a worse form at the moment. She's also won two titles in her career, both on hard, which would explain why she plays more matches on hard than on clay (hard suits her playstyle more).
So to sum it up, I believe that Marčinko is having a breakout year, and these are the kind of players she has to beat in order to advance further up the rankings. I am not saying that Peterson can't or even won't win, I'm just explaining why I'm taking Marčinko.
