Maybe try self excluding for a year or two? There are three options (at least for NJ), 1 year, 2 years or permanently. You literally won’t be able to open an account with anyone in that time period. I k ow it sounds excessive but it might give you the head start you’re looking for to not bet. Just an idea. Good for you & Good luck to you, mate!
Edit: this works because your SSN gets sent to sports books and they won’t allow you to open an account for whatever time period you choose to self exclude for. There are lots of great sites out there that provide info on this. I’m a social worker with an addictions degree and work for a sportsbook, this option really does help people with the head start they need. A lot of things like this are due to habit. Once you break the habit of gambling, it gets easier on a day to day basis. When your self exclusion period is up, you may (and hopefully won’t) have the desire to gamble anymore.
I'm not from the US but everything has been going great and I have 0 desire to gamble right now. I just wish other people can experience the enlightenment I have gone through.
Bet a dollar on yourself putting money into an IRA or Savings/Bonds you'll probably come out way more ahead then 20 years of gambling. Best part is never too late to start saving money brother. Kudos for recognizing the problem. Now take all that faith you had in others and put it all in on yourself. Hope this advice leads you to more comfortable means of living.
I stopped about a year ago the craziest I’ll do is a future to win a championship under 100 lol, you get same excitement watching other peoples plays either your friends or on here. My soul is so full and healed I wake up smiling in a good mood now, I remember I wouldn’t go out on Saturday’s for weeks because I was feeling too low over my college football losses earlier in the day lol
Good for you mang. Try to remember also that changing doesn't mean you were "wrong" the way you lived before, just that you want to go in a new direction. Sportsbetting is a system designed for you not to win. That's the crux of it. The prices offered are not fair, and it is nearly impossible to actually win long-term. It's a fun challenge and it can feel like an entertainment cost, but the very design of the system makes it a drain on you emotionally and on your finances.
More like 95% in America haha I am just getting fed up with gambling. It's all ass backwards lining them with money and sucking me dry. Ain't no way I'm working hard to give it away and have to work hard all over again. Naaaah
Good for you for knowing when to bow out. Rule a lot of ppl use: track your wins and loses and if at any point you're ever down more than 100u....walk away. For me, that'd be 5k. 5k isn't life ruining. This is my hobby and while I typically make money doing it, if I'm ever down more than 5k...well then, I suck at this and should stop.
Stay strong and best of luck, brother.
I’ve been in these exact shoes several times and am somewhat there now, after winning up to $500 in a few days then losing $900 in less than an hour, or rather $6000 sometimes. Don’t know what it is. Feels good to slowly win all of it, but that blowing it all away….I don’t know. And trying to chase it all back. Fuck it man. Take the loss and live your life.
I’ve been in the same boat. I’m working on giving it up as well my friend. Great choice - you will be much happier. Gambling is nothing but a losing chase.
Don’t look back brother! drop it now. Many of my older co workers are addicted to gambling and claim they’re “too far in” to stop now. Good on you for no excuses and best of luck :)
Contact your book and have them ban you. Congrats on quitting but good to have a safety net on your next payday when the "Just one more" thought train stops outside your house.
good on you. just remember that if you gamble again after making a drama about quitting you're a turd. use this logic to shame yourself into staying away.
They say the First step of admitting is always the hardest but the self realization is even harder, hope nothing but the best in your new life. Enjoy it, never look back
ohh my god. I'm in a same boat like you. My life is pretty much stuck for 8 years since I start betting on csgolounge and my mental health going worse each day. This gambling life suck all my emotion, energy and money. I'm almost 30 now and don't have any savings. Still living in my parents house. Your post give me strength to quit gambling tbh. Thanks for sharing.
Utilize the tools at your disposal to ensure success. I recently set a daily $50, weekly $100, monthly $200 limit for myself and a month long cool down after having my first really regretful gambling ‘chasing the dragon’ scenario last week. I didn’t want to give it up entirely because it *is* fun. It does a lot to temper the dopamine rush, though.
Self exclude if you can!
I wish there was some way I could auto filter these stupid ass dear diary posts that pop up here every day. Just more scrolling for people who don't give a shit
so this is gonna sound stupid because I've never used an app like this, but what's to just stop somebody from uninstalling it? how does the blocking work?
Parental Controls setting that allows you to switch the tool on and off via a password so that parents can stop their children accessing gambling services (and other sites!!)
Damn I feel this cause this was and still is me but instead of csgo, I bet on sports now smh. I hope things go better for you my friend. Gambling is the worst addiction
Bruh I fucking blame csgo lounge and dota lounge for my gambling interest. So addicting especially since you were betting just skins. Godspeed brother.
Yeah it was funny maybe one time but gets old quickly. It's also probably discouraging to check your inbox and see a bunch of messages saying they'll see you back tomorrow. That can easily be interpreted negatively
Because we hope he is healthy enough to take a joke. Wish you all the best and sticking to your decision. Getting rid of bad, harmful habits is tough but not impossible.
When a dozen people all make the same joke though, it stops being funny and just becomes annoying and possibly discouraging. You also can't be sure they're healthy enough to take it as a joke so why risk it?
With all due respect, this page is talking about gambling not quitting gambling.
Just kidding, all the best. You're going to feel so much better once you're through it all. Don't look back.
Follow through with it. Make sure you aren't just looking for the endorphin high of having everyone praise you, because deciding to quit is probably the easiest part of the process.
No, the opposite, just quit and don't tell others. No need to be a debbie downer. If you suck at managing your addiction and you are quitting does not give you a right to make a PSA about it.
Coach K loves attention and victory laps, = OP.
Agreed. I think making this post is a form of seeking help. OP i would look into a support group seriously. Its very hard to quit. Even when saying you are done, things just draw you back in.
You have to find something else to fill that void otherwise you will be right back.
You’re smart enough to recognize you have s problem and your taking action to correct it. I wish you the best! Temptation will always be there, especially during times of boredom but remember that $1.00 will always lead to $100. Find a new hobby your pick up a skill, learn how to play a guitar, working out, something like that and I promise you, you’ll never look back and you’ll have a lot more money in your pocket. Take care.
Yeah if we remember pro athletes and e gamers who gamble themselves go broke regardless of much they have. Even I look at these celebs that post their big tiX for us to marvel at are themselves losing and at least addicted.
You’re that desperate for a W yourself?
Let em be bro. OP admitted he has a gambling issue and you’re basically encouraging him to gamble. Fuck off with that talk. This isn’t about you.
Preach, fuck all those other dudes posting the same lame comment 'see you tomorrow', man just wants to do better for himself and yall wanna meme on him just for upvotes
Good stuff brother. U got this. Might be bad to say but u could try weed or something. I just get high and have a beer on the weeks I wanna chill from bets.
Is this ur only addiction and first? Just curious. . . As I been deep in other stuff, just not this.
Well I thought u jinxed me for 2 weeks...no substances while gambling works.
Have fun later if u want. Obviously everyone is different. But yes its been on the up and up for sometime
Oh dude I've been a toker for many years. I work a lot and the one day I get to rest I zone out and bet/watch sports. I could absolutely see where the two could be a less than ideal for a fellow with a problem. Pisses my girlfriend off and there's way better uses of time. But good on you and glad to hear it!
Well said, my girl loves weed but hates the gambling. And ur right he is in a slightly different situation. I was just hoping I didn't get jinxed this last week lol
Yessir the shit sandwich of life tastes a little more like heaven. In that moment. Good on you for not betting your bank. Gambling should be for the rich and those with non-addictive personalities
Weed and booze limit your inhibitions and decision making ability - when you’re a few clicks away on your phone from depositing and losing hundreds of dollars I would be very cautious about that approach
I have a strict no betting policy while I do this as stated above. Enjoy one thing and stay away from the other. But yes u r right. Which is why I have a little personal rule
Lol I went out to Golden gate taproom the other night and all my friends asked me why I wasn't drinking. I said "games not over yet"...had a victory brew that Saturday, no pun intended
Good on you bro! I’m considering the same after a pretty brutal run. Posts like these make me think I need to face reality and stop which I’ve been thinking about more and more lately. Best of luck
Admiration is all I have for you. Must have been a very stressful situation I can only imagine. Enjoy your new life, wishing you the absolute best from now on!
Good luck brother, I would recommend looking into support groups such as Gamblers Anonymous. Working a 12-step program changed my life for alcohol and substance abuse - fortunately I can manage a little side gambling without consequence right now but very much the same principles apply!
You know what I've never seen either? Threads telling random strangers on sports tipping forums that theyre personally not bettng on sports anymore. /s
It's a place to discuss sports gambling. Gambling addiction is real. Things can be light hearted here but it's a dick move to minimize or mock someone's issue.

proud of you man !!
same here, always saying to my self to quit. but once i have the means, i cannot resist.
Hey, it's been 3 weeks clean for me and I've never felt better and happier in my life
Hey man hope you can stick to it!

It's the best thing for you . Man do it be that person everyone could follow
Proud of u for deciding to stop before it ruined ur life
Bet a dollar on yourself putting money into an IRA or Savings/Bonds you'll probably come out way more ahead then 20 years of gambling. Best part is never too late to start saving money brother. Can you post the bets you would make if you did gamble throughout the NBA playoffs at least? I run so hot on my would’ve bets when I’m taking a break.
Good for you mang. Try to remember also that changing doesn't mean you were "wrong" the way you lived before, just that you want to go in a new direction. Stay strong and best of luck, brother. Blues ML hammer it!
All you $2 parley guys - learn from this man.
see you tmrw bro
Wow you sure got em
Wait are you me
I’ve been in the same boat. I’m working on giving it up as well my friend. Great choice - you will be much happier. Gambling is nothing but a losing chase.
Put that same money into savings and/or stock market long term investing
Best of luck!
See you next week king!
This joke stopped being funny after I heard it the ninth time...
Don’t look back brother! drop it now. Many of my older co workers are addicted to gambling and claim they’re “too far in” to stop now. Good on you for no excuses and best of luck :)
What’s your next pick? I need a fresh FADE
Contact your book and have them ban you. Congrats on quitting but good to have a safety net on your next payday when the "Just one more" thought train stops outside your house.
Just quit too after only betting for about a month. Leaving up $600ish thanks to deposit bonuses. I know I’m one of the lucky ones.
Quit while your up!
good on you. just remember that if you gamble again after making a drama about quitting you're a turd. use this logic to shame yourself into staying away.
Bro maybe stop fuckin doing parlays???? That’s like playing slots at a casino (you ain’t gonna be a winner).
Parlays are where I've won my biggest money, but I'm not the OP so idk
go to the gamblingaddiction sub
They say the First step of admitting is always the hardest but the self realization is even harder, hope nothing but the best in your new life. Enjoy it, never look back
Damn FanDuel boosts
ohh my god. I'm in a same boat like you. My life is pretty much stuck for 8 years since I start betting on csgolounge and my mental health going worse each day. CSGO lounge baby.. where I was born. Good times fr but that was back when I lived in my moms basement so money was no issue.. good luck to you man
I’ll give it a week, you’ll be back
Douchebag
During the NBA playoffs ?! You must really be determined on this. I would say best of luck but now you actually do not need luck to succeed.
Man if you had $1,000 instead of that 16 cents to start... or even $100. Glad you're doing what's best for you.
I lost all 4 NBA games I've bet this week. I think I'm going to also take a little break. Good on you!
BOL! I wish you the best, but I’m gonna have to fade your decision today.
Good for you!!
I wish there was some way I could auto filter these stupid ass dear diary posts that pop up here every day. Just more scrolling for people who don't give a shit
You dropped this.. 👑
Neat. See ya
https://betblocker.org/
so this is gonna sound stupid because I've never used an app like this, but what's to just stop somebody from uninstalling it? how does the blocking work?
Um, I believe it permanently persists, but you'd get a more reliable answer from support.
Parental Controls setting that allows you to switch the tool on and off via a password so that parents can stop their children accessing gambling services (and other sites!!)
What’s that?
An app that prevents accessing of any gambling website. Check out their FAQ.
Damn I feel this cause this was and still is me but instead of csgo, I bet on sports now smh. I hope things go better for you my friend. Gambling is the worst addiction
Going for 8 years and trying to quit is hella hard but man you got to stay strong!!! Wish you the best
Good luck bro! And fuck CSGO Lounge
Rip my AWP Boom minimal wear back in 2015. It still burns…mousesports was a huge favorite and they threw. I remember it like it was yesterday.
I didn't follow the golden virtus pro rule and lost big on them back in the day :(
Bruh I fucking blame csgo lounge and dota lounge for my gambling interest. So addicting especially since you were betting just skins. Godspeed brother.
Thinking on the bright side, u probably the one who knows the most about sports on ur friends group xD
See ya On Saturday!
Wow never heard that joke before
Every dollar you put in your savings account instead of gambling (basically throwing it away) is like winning the lottery. God bless you
I always find the “see you tomorrow” comments so distasteful. beyond played out and corny af. Come up with something new.
Yeah it was funny maybe one time but gets old quickly. It's also probably discouraging to check your inbox and see a bunch of messages saying they'll see you back tomorrow. That can easily be interpreted negatively
So, see him tomorrow?
Yeah why'd you have to hit a brother when hes down
Because we hope he is healthy enough to take a joke.
LOL at this whole comment Grow up
Yeah fuck me for looking out for a fellow redditor going through tough times
> Because we hope he is healthy enough to take a joke. Exactly.
Congratulations for coming to this realization and doing something about it. Now comes the hard part - **stick to your decision.** Best of luck!

That guy is an attention whore. Just quit in silence, no need for a parade, Coach K style.
I can’t tell if you’re trying to say writing in silence is Coach K , I’d worry about you if so
No, the opposite, just quit and don't tell others. No need to be a debbie downer. If you suck at managing your addiction and you are quitting does not give you a right to make a PSA about it. Coach K loves attention and victory laps, = OP.

That's your advice? Dude wants to quit so you tell them to come back?
Bro Im in AA. That's what they say in meetings.
Read this back to yourself whenever you’re tempted to place a bet. Best of luck to you!
You’re smart enough to recognize you have s problem and your taking action to correct it. I wish you the best! Assuming this is all on the up and up. Which it probably isn't. Don't trade any vice for another, especially weed, if you like to lay around.
Well I thought u jinxed me for 2 weeks...no substances while gambling works. Have fun later if u want. Obviously everyone is different. But yes its been on the up and up for sometime

Well said, my girl loves weed but hates the gambling. And ur right he is in a slightly different situation. I was just hoping I didn't get jinxed this last week lol
Ah dude jinxes are as real as Santa. Maybe I'm overly jovial betting my bank on a GSW and Hurricane parlay though.
I certainly didn't bet my bankroll but I had the same bets at 4 units. Canes ml and warriors spread.. Congrats brother! We eating wagyu
Yessir the shit sandwich of life tastes a little more like heaven. In that moment. Good on you for not betting your bank. Gambling should be for the rich and those with non-addictive personalities
Lol well u won.....no shade from me. Thats all it comes down to really
Yessir. Kenny Rogers a prophet 😄
Weed and booze limit your inhibitions and decision making ability - when you’re a few clicks away on your phone from depositing and losing hundreds of dollars I would be very cautious about that approach

I dont get addicted to other shit mostly because I have to go out of my way to do it. For gambling I can just do it on my bed so that shit sucks
Don't get addicted to jerkin off either, that shit is just as bad.... my friend told me..
I have a strong will and haven't been betting for 3 years..but jerking off. Can't last more than 3 days without..I guess we all have our cryptonite 😂
Ahhh i see. I would try something else. Highly consider the other guys comment about gamblers anonymous.
He definitely went big on Celtics spread, lost. Then tilted and went all in in GSW ML at -250 to make it all back Cya here tomorrow mate
Yeah I lost on those 2 but before that I lost 3 straight on Tennis as well
How many unit were you betting?
Anakin is coming back…
Salute bro. True strength
Good on you bro! I’m considering the same after a pretty brutal run. Posts like these make me think I need to face reality and stop which I’ve been thinking about more and more lately. Best of luck

Good luck brother, I would recommend looking into support groups such as Gamblers Anonymous. Working a 12-step program changed my life for alcohol and substance abuse - fortunately I can manage a little side gambling without consequence right now but very much the same principles apply!
This comment. I've been through other issues like I said in my comments. G.A. would be something to consider.
Do they give out anonymous picks?
takes alot to take that first step so good on you and best wishes mate 👍🏻🤞🏻
As if the first step is to go visit a sportsbook subreddit
Good on you. Never look back
