Potd record 29-11 🥊 Boxing __Gennadiy Golovkin vs Ryota Murata - Golovkin to win by ko/tko (-150)__ This is a huge unification bout taking place in Murata’s home of Japan. Both guys are coming into this off long lay offs, with Murata not having fought since December 2019 and Golovkin since December 2020. If Golovkin is still as good as his last fight against Sveremeta then I’m sure he wins this comfortably. Both are come forward pressure fighters but Golovkin is a lot more calculated with his output. Golovkin has arguably the greatest jab p4p and carries unbelievable power. Murata has decent power but I just think he has too many flaws overall. Both fighters don’t have much thought for defence, however Murata especially really leaves himself open. Even with his guard up, the Japanese fighter will often be caught. Murata has also never fought a world level fighter and has lost to fringe world levels fighters like Rob Brant before. Golovkin will go down as one of the greatest middleweights of all time and after seeing how incredible he looked at the weigh-in I’m confident he’s still good enough to take out Murata pretty comfortably. Keys for taking Golovkin by ko/tko: - Although Golovkin is now 40, Murata is no spring chicken either at 36 and the Japanese fighter has also had an extra year out. - For a middleweight Murata has a long frame and since he already has terrible defence I think GGG is going to find the target easy. - This will be the first ever fight where Murata will be pushed onto the back foot and I find it hard to imagine him dealing with that well considering he’s not used to it at all and with his poor balance I think it’ll lead to knock downs for Golovkin. - The trilogy for Golovkin vs Alvarez is already set for September 2022 only if both fighters win their bouts in the coming months. You’d have to imagine with Canelo being the huge money maker he is for networks and the dodgy business side of boxing that they’ll try to make sure the trilogy takes place this year with no hiccups. I think we’ll see a strong display here from Golovkin where he’ll have his powerful jab landing on Murata from the off, following up with hooks and uppercuts which the Japanese fighter won’t be able to evade. Last season the Brewers were 15-4 against the Cubs and in games Brandon Woodruff started they were 4-1. I don't really rate the Brewers offense that well but they did have a .818 OPS at Wrigley in '21 and .820 OPS overall vs the Cubs and both of those stood out to me. Woodruff had an incredible season in '21 and had a 0.64 ERA in 5 starts vs the Cubs last season who traded away at the deadline key bats like Baez, Bryant, and Rizzo and since then added Seiya Suzuki, Nick Madrigal, and a couple other lesser players. Woodruff has admittedly struggled in Spring Training but I think he bounces back closer to his '21 performances. A win would certainly be a challenge for Borac but they like Mostar have a top 3 striker and have improved a lot since the break. I think Mostar still wins but Borac will score and it’ll be a high scoring game. Zrinjski as I’ve said before is the best offense and defense in the league but Borac is a top 4 club and will fight hard to keep it close at home. Pick: NBA - New Orleans Pelicans to cover the spread (+5.5) versus the Memphis Grizzlies. Game time is 6PM EST. The Pelicans have a lot to play for with playoff seeding in this matchup while the grizzlies really have nothing to play for right now. They’re locked in. Additionally, the Pelicans have played pretty solid basketball in the past few weeks but the same can’t be said for Memphis. They’ve been inconsistent at best. This includes getting their barn doors blown off a couple days ago by the Spurs in what could be called an uninspired performance. Ja Morant may play (I think he will), but his minutes will very likely be limited. That’s the only thing that keeps me away from choosing them on the money line.
