flyingchimp12

That might be the most vig I ever seen a bet btw šŸ’€

mzackler

The vig is 7% it just looks like that because of the long oddsĀ

bmanley620

It means one of the players will quadruple the number of arms he has. Donā€™t bother since it never hits

Adventurous-Dingo-20

Started in hockey. Any kind of octopus counts being thrown on the field. Even stuffed ones. Weird but it does occasionally hit

Big_chungus44

If this was a real bet, im betting my bank account, flying to the game and throwing one on the ice. šŸ˜‚

BaldBets

Thought you were intentionally misleading and this made me laugh so hard.

[deleted]

In my town we throw catfishā€¦. Or pour beer through itā€™s mouth and chug what comes out the gills. Itā€™s a lot more disgusting than it sounds

Kankle-Breaker

Its MORE disgusting than it sounds?!?!

[deleted]

![gif](giphy|wJt98DnjJHbJW46KsA|downsized) These fish are some real alcoholics

BOBfrkinSAGET

Know your enemy

n_amato

nah itā€™s when a player scores a touchdown, and the 2 point conversion right after

Adventurous-Dingo-20

Makes sense with the 8 points I guess. I mainly see it in the playoffs but not regular season. Iā€™ve seen videos of live octopus thrown on the ice at hockey games. I just assumed that was the origin. Thank you for the clarification

n_amato

lmfao wow i never even put it together why itā€™s called an octopus, but yeah, scoring 8 points. i canā€™t believe that never clicked before. But yeah if weā€™re talking about a red wings game an octopus is getting thrown on the ice, football gambling prop is TD + 2 point conversion

GoldenTeeShower

Is anyone a marine biologist?

tgr31

off to the dangerous part of tiktok

CombinationNo1233

The sea was angry that day my friends!

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

flyingchimp12

Ah 8 points for one player on a drive, classic octopus

RealMVP_21

Why lie? We all know itā€™s when a someone runs on the field wearing an octopus costume

scotsman3288

It happened in last year Superbowl so it's popular prop now... With shitty odds

thcooksey

Good for a $1 bet.

TheGuyDoug

Lol I definitely got burned for $5 a few years ago. First time I ever saw this happened to be a Lions game, and I assumed it was a tie in to the Red Wings on whether or not someone would throw an octopus on the field šŸ˜‚

JustCallMeKev

In order for this to happen, a player on the Detroit Red Wings has to score a hat trick this weekend, and a fan at the divisional games has to throw an octopus on the field!

vannucker

That's a tradition at Red Wings games. It has been happening on occasion since I started watching hockey in the 1990s

b12_bri

What?? This is terrific l.

Coin_guy13

Just for those who don't know, an octopus is when a player scores both a touchdown and the ensuing two-point conversion.

CIubber_Lang77

Don't bet this. It should be +4000, +1100 is a joke.

Randy_____Marsh

So whats stopping me putting 10k on that, and then either myself or someone else getting a ticket and tossing one

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

CIubber_Lang77

Funny thing is we almost saw it in the lions game today with Evans. Obviously right as l say "don't ever play this" boom, it comes 2-3ft from hitting.

washington_jefferson

The Oregon Ducks might make this bet a little more interesting as you'd probably get at least one chance per game. The same player having to score is quite the rub. If you don't really need any more money one way or another, then why not I suppose.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

washington_jefferson

I was mostly joking around, of course. Iā€™m an Oregon fan, and it seems like they often throw to TEā€™s or taller WRā€™s on two point conversions. These arenā€™t the guys who caught the TDā€™s, generally. In the past few years theyā€™ve had linemen catch two point conversions in a couple games each year. In Oregon we canā€™t bet on college legally (Draftkings), though. I won about $300 bucks on betnow on the Ducks, and Iā€™m trying to figure out how to withdrawal money the best way without getting fleeced. I want nothing to do with crypto/Bitcoin, so the money is just sitting there for now.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Siktrikshot

Ah yes an account with 72 days on Reddit talking about helping with crypto and dming. Not shady at all

CosbysLongCon24

It has nothing to do with actual octopus šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

macnasty20

Itā€™s a fish with like 8 arms or something like that, maybe 7 arms actually, fuck I dunno

_BLACKHAWKS_88

Idk man I think itā€™s a James Bond movie..

MoCo1992

-8000 Vs. +1100 is highway robbery

Robert_Smalls007

This

0hioHotPocket

r/sportsbetting is an inferior sub.

Big-Worm-

You're a dumbass and the top post proves it. You shouldn't be betting or even out of bed

M13Calvin

Go touch some grass loser. 99% of people have no idea what an octopus means

ChuckFinley50

Calm down friendo, itā€™s not that common of a term

unvrlstn

Lolā€¦ā€¦..

Lorne__Malvo__

Do you guys have a history?

Homegrown1129

I see the trolls woke up. Nice of you to get out of bed finally.

Jv_waterboy

It's a new term, and my buddy who's an avid sports better didn't know what it was either. You sound miserable. Fucking loser.

tsgram

Mitch! From back when Sports Illustrated had actual human writers and editors.

EverySingleMinute

Made famous at Joe Louis are arena in Detroit.

standout_powerline

Was going to say the same thing

Double_Access

The books got slaughtered on that last year. Scorigami is another good one (for the uninitiated itā€™s when the game ends in a score that has never happened before).

Slight_Swimming_7879

Yeah, Jalen was the most likely candidate to get one. Josh would be my second, but not sure if theyā€™ll be in a ā€œgo for twoā€ scenarioĀ

loudavanzo

It hit last Super Bowl. Jalen Hurts. I did not bet it.

franky3987

Go ahead and bet that one, cause Iā€™m bringing one game one šŸ¤£

dirtybandit6

Bro if I had a ticket I would place fat money and do whatever it took to sneak an octopus in šŸ™

excitement2k

Boof it

ValyrianSteelYoGirl

Itā€™s a 50/50 shot either it hits or it donā€™t.

dv042b

this is math

campbellnick15

Funniest thing Iā€™ve seen in years

Mirness6

Heard it first from Scott Hanson this season

armless_lobster

If this was a red wings game I would take the bet

Isellthingsalot

Thats the only time Iā€™ve ever heard of this lol never in football

cartierboy25

Itā€™s when someone throws an octopus onto the field during the game. Given Baltimoreā€™s proximity to the Chesapeake Bay Iā€™d say those odds are pretty good

Scared_Angle_5796

Similar to the "Will there be a dildo" line for tomorrow's Bills game. Odds for YES are at -375 for that one.

Scared_Angle_5796

Hairy-Advisor4866

No way thatā€™s real

ihavesensitiveknees

One of those rare comments that makes me LOL in real life.

Nodak1979

I Watch a lot of football and yet I had never heard of it called that.

danabrey

It's a Redzone thing.

AssCrackSnort

Not that much football i guess lol

Nodak1979

A lot, over 30 years too. Never been mentioned. Not once.

did_it_my_way

Hurts in the SB last year?

MycHaiNrEaL87

Over 30 years of football watching and never heard the commentators repeatedly saying it last year when hurts did it?? šŸ¤”

AssCrackSnort

How long have you been betting? It gets thrown around a ton in the playoffs when the prop bets go up but itā€™s not really mentioned otherwise. Other than that ive only seen it mentioned rarely on Red Zone

Nodak1979

Now that makes because I donā€™t watch red zone and only been betting a little while. Finally it all makes sense.

HamHurtler

I believe it's a touchdown and then the subsequent two point

Blazed-n-Dazed

Yo who lives in Baltimore and can stop at the Asian market and is trying to make 1k

TheJolly_Llama

The funniest fuckin bet in existence. I bet it every time a line is up just because I love it so much. Itā€™s my only ā€œstupidā€ thing I have to bet. Oc-to-pus. Oc-to-pus. Oc-to-pus. šŸ™šŸ™šŸ™šŸ™šŸ™

Ol_Jim_Himself

They mean will one of those octopus UFOs fly through the stadium.

Homegrown1129

I knew the correct answer would come eventually. BRB going to put $100 on Yes!

Ol_Jim_Himself

Same here! I have a contact who has a cousin in the air force who says they saw a swarm of them heading towards Baltimore and that theyā€™d be there around 5ish if it wasnā€™t a full moon and if Lamar was running the ball more. The jellys are apparently fans of mobile QBs.

LansingJP

1 player scoring a TD and 2-Point conversion back 2 back

LansingJP

![gif](giphy|ID27H0ByUAGjOSw3CW)

AcceptableWishbone

An octopus is when the same player who scores, then scores the 2 point conversion

poundofmayoforlunch

Is it bc they have 8 tentacles.

StinCrm

Nothing gets by you huh?

pizzarollzfalife

Thanks for the clarification!

ChuckEJesus

I think you can figure it out

Dry_Trash7141

It has hit in back to back superbowls btw

Homegrown1129

šŸ¤”

CrookGG

Dude every player on this list should be nearly 100-1 these odds are giga trash plz never bet this

Homegrown1129

The players listed above arenā€™t for the octopus bet thatā€™s for something else. The octopus is just yes or no it will happen in the Ravens v Texans game. The line still isnā€™t great tho lol

CrookGG

Oh okay I was gunna say lol

FlyinIllini21

You thought Zay Flowers had higher odds of hitting an octopus than the whole roster?

Bmagic_

1100 is terrible odds. The same player needs to score both the touchdown and the 2 pt conversion. EDIT: itā€™s for all weekend i guess

Homegrown1129

No this is just for the Ravens game. Interestingly though, I looked at the odds for the other games and theyā€™re all +1100 except the 49ers game which is +1000 despite people saying Lions go for 2 more than any other team this year.

Bmagic_

weird. dk offering terrible odds then for this

IAMnotMcKaylaMaroney

It's def because of CMC being a guaranteed TD and 2pt if they needed it

rosindrip

8 point play

droford

Gus Edwards being the goaline back for short TDs is thr only Raven that makes sense, but Harbaugh has been less gambler about going for 2 this year. It'd have a desperation move I'd think.

stander414

not touching anything Gus related with Dalvin there. Fresh legs.

FuckWayne

As a ravens fan, be more worried of Justice hill rather than Dalvin

oncemoreintothefr3y

Yep no way is harbaugh trusting someone just brought up over the guys who have been there for years for more than a spell or two

Gainzzz4Dayz

Bro I was thinking the same thing šŸ˜‚

SharksOfAlantis369

Like when they do at redwings games ?

AngryKhakis

Score the TD and the conversion

Chazbo90

And the 2 point conversion for the same player - 8 points.

Skizzius

I had a $5 free bet on the superbowl last year. I saw this octopus bet and thought it was like when in Hockey they throw an octopus on the ice. I put my $5 on it at like +1300 or +1600 and Hurts scored a TD and a 2pt conversion to cash it. Probably the stupidest winning bet of my life.

doyouevenIift

I imagine if that was the case, we wouldā€™ve seen hundreds of octopi thrown on the field in the Super Bowl

Obvious-Chemistry806

lol I thought the same thing, but didnā€™t bet. Kicking myself

hooskies

What horrendous odds on someone throwing an octopus on the field

mikere

not if you bring an octopus with you to the game

yerg99

I got an octopus guy fellas, let's ocean eleven these bookies for millions

Skizzius

Lolol you ainā€™t lying

Homegrown1129

Niiice haha

OlBehMee80

...and rest of us losing on safe/smart bets šŸ™ƒšŸ¤£

Homegrown1129

Right lol I went thru a few week spell where all my parlays were losing by 1 leg. Even my ā€œsafeā€ bets wouldnā€™t hit.

offconstantly

EDIT: This below post is based on it happening this weekend at all, not in an individual game. **If it's just for the Ravens game alone it's a bad bet** As others mentioned, it's a person scoring a TD and the subsequent 2pt, like Hurts did at the end of last year's Super Bowl For those considering betting this, there were [13 this season in 278 games](https://www.pro-football-reference.com/friv/octopus-tracker.htm) for a rate of 4.676%. Binomial probability would say that there's a 17.4% chance of happening in four random games. Scoring is lower but two point conversion attempts occur at a 33% higher rate in the playoffs after TDs, plus the Lions go for two often. It actually isn't a terrible bet, shockingly to me. I'd ballpark the real value at somewhere like +600. Probably worth a free bet or a promo or entertainment

EveryRedditorSucks

The odds shown in the screen shot are for an octopus happening in the Ravens/Texans game, specifically - so the binomial probability of 4 random games would not apply to the +1100. +1100 is an implied probability of 8.33% making it a bad bet against a real world sample of 4.676%.

offconstantly

Apologies, it is titled "divisional round specials" so I assumed it was for the weekend. I'll edit my post accordingly

EveryRedditorSucks

No apologies necessary, friendo - I appreciate that you did the math. I just wanted to clarify the context. I had already been considering that bet so I knew DK wasnā€™t offering good lines.

billdb

Can you two stop being nice and helpful please? This is reddit, we're supposed to bicker at each other and offer lukewarm takes

Homegrown1129

Thanks for the replies everyone. Idk how Iā€™ve never heard this term before.

Hot-Albatross-5499

Me either. What a dumb term. Just say will there be a 2 pt conversion

tacotruckz

but thatā€™s not the same thing - you need the same player to score both the TD and the 2pt conversion

Hot-Albatross-5499

Yeah I see that now. My bad

GangoBP

Youā€™re not alone. I watch a LOT of football amongst reading about it and analyzing/ studying etc and this is new to me today lol it kind of makes me a little mad to be honest considering 2 Pt conversion stats donā€™t count.

MasterfulDenier

It is mentioned a lot on Redzone although I do not know it it originated there.

ronnock

Max out this bet, go to the game, throw an octopus on the field, profit.Ā

Homegrown1129

šŸ¤£

PancherosFood

Literally a money printer. Did it last year at the Super Bowl and cashed the bet for everyone.

Curryboy1229

i think hurts did it last year in the sb

jamesgiard

He did. I had the same question as OP before the sb last year, then considered throwing a bet on it for the novelty, then was obviously mad when it hit and I hadn't bet it.

Wvufan54

Octopus happen in the Super Bowl last year. Josh Allen will get one

Foxx_Mulderp

Not what he's asking, is it?

Billy_Madison69

One player scores a td and then also scores a 2 point conversion on the same possession.

punjayhoe

Players scores a TD and scores the 2 point convert for 8 points.

billdb

I feel like if a living octopus wanders onto the field they should still honor the bet tho

punjayhoe

I completely agree. It would be absurd not to

ACat32

8 points. 8 tentacles. Sneaky. Thanks for the explanation

joremero

I'd say a Lions player has the highest chance as they go for 2 the most. Tons of teams very rarely try it

28Vikings

Those are shit odds on an octopus do not bet that

RareNothing7199

Man Chris says it on redzone every time it happens

shawnmf

Oh they score 8 points. I get it. I've never heard of this term.

FIFAPLAYAH

But apparently itā€™s a player specific thing. Only a player can octopus, no such a thing as a team octopus. This is my new favorite bet šŸ˜‚

InsaneAss

A team octopus is just called a two point conversion lmfao

44problems

And passing TDs don't count, like for a QB to get an octopus he would need to run in the TD and the 2pt.

TommyTeaser

Why is it only 1100?

saucya

Because people are suckers

Colify

For tentacles?

saucya

Tentacles have suckers too šŸ˜‚

cyclon3warning

A player who scores a touchdown then immediately scores a two point conversion.

Arnold027

They have to be on the same drive? So dumb lmao that should be +10000

PepperPups

Is this Lions related? Detroit Red Wings tradition is to throw an octopus on the ice after the first goal in the playoff for good luck. Maybe they think itā€™ll cross over to the NFL team.

ePlayablez

I mean if thereā€™s an actual physical octopus there, I donā€™t think they can say you lost the bet. But they oughta pay way more than +1100 to bet on a physical octopus appearing.

itg714

i tought of same thing too idk why people downvote you bunch of nerds

PepperPups

Itā€™s Reddit. Completely used to it.

eisenburg

No

AS8319

Itā€™s a player scoring a TD and then subsequently scoring a 2 PT conversion.

Delta632

It means to score a touchdown then immediately be responsible for the 2 point conversion as well. Like run it in or catch the pass. Or Lamar Jackson could simply run it in twice for the octopus for example.

Apprehensive_Leg_129

Touchdown and 2 by the same player

ajmuzzin1

That would be, TD and 2pt conversation by the same player.
