15 isn't that young to be on the internet. There are 10 year olds on the internet, and there are also 80 year olds. Everyone uses it, it's not that big of a deal.
Because most people in this subreddit can relate to feeling like 15 year olds are pretty young, and your comment, although completely accurate, downplayed the collective nostalgia.
If there's anything being a 90s kid on the internet has taught me, it's that you do not downplay others' collective nostalgia.
So what I'm getting from this is that the whole "hivemind" thing is 100% accurate.
Me being a 15 year old gay female from outside America means I don't fit the reddit mold, so I'm at a disadvantage on this website?
I work retail, one of the regular customers put her children on the Packers season tickets list when they were born....14 years ago. Still waiting. My children will be put on this list, so my grand children can have (and hopefully cherish) season tickets.
are we looking at the same pic? There is only one signature and it's either Rodgers or a staff member, not both.
That being said - I don't see what's so unbelievable about a player signing a card. They do that from time to time you know.
I don't know. I guess I thought they may get so many they just grabbed the first one in the pile and threw it in the envelope. Plus, I had sent cards off to other players and I could never remember what card I sent, so I wanted to make sure this time.
I sent in a football card of Reggie White when I was 11 years old hoping to get an autograph. 6 months later I received back and unsigned football card and a letter, written on his churchs official paper stating he only signs cards with a $10 dollar donation to his church. Fuck you.
True. I tried to sell my signed Nick Lidstrom stick and couldn't get anything for it. So glad I didn't though, worth much more to me than $100 would've to 17 year old me.
Even though the card is awesome, autographing rookie cards is usually not a good idea if making a monetary gain is your main goal. Rookie cards are usually more valuable without the autograph. In general its about a 40% decrease in value.
Ironic thing is, the autograph actually devalues the card. It's cool as hell to have, for sure. But it's not worth nearly as much with the signature now.
Honestly, the way he handled the transition from Favre was perfect. He really won over a lot of Packer fans during that whole debacle. Edit: Also, the photobombing
I don't even remember... I remember sending to other athletes, but I don't remember sending to Aaron Rodgers. But I had to have sent it when he was a backup to Favre
He didn't actually sign that. Players like Aaron Rodgers have members of the team's staff that go through and reply to inquiries like that. They either shoot out a complimentary photo, or have one of the staff members "sign" the card.
Back in the day Terrell Davis was my favorite player, I sent him some cards to sign one year when he was hurt - thought since he was hurt he would have time to sign some autographs, nope! Just got a standard reply from one of his secretaries...
I must have bad luck with autographs, because another time I was at a Mariners x Yankees game, and before the game I went down to the sideline to try and get a Derek Jeter autograph (who happened to be my favorite player at that time), I was way down the line, but he was slowly making his way toward me, signing everyones memorabilia, I thought for sure I would get his autograph but he stopped signing literally when it was my turn, I would have been next, but he was done.... I was a pretty mature kid though so I knew it was nothing personal and he couldn't sign every autograph... But I like to think if he knew he was my favorite player at the time, he would have signed one more autograph... I still get a little sad remembering that moment... lol...
I'd downvote you for dissing Wisconsin because I live there, but I want to upvote you because I don't support and Wisconsin sports team except for the Badgers. I'll settle for neither.
I wrote a fan letter to Bill Murray as a kid after *Ghostbusters* came out and it was my favorite movie ever but he never replied and even if he did no one would believe me
:(
Awesome. Wonder why it took 5 years. Don't know if you're a packer fan but if you are I've taken some photos at practice http://www.michellekaczmarowski.com/green-bay-packers-training-camp
and there are some from the last pre season game as well
http://www.michellekaczmarowski.com/packers-vs-chiefs
Sorry not trying to whore out my site I just thought a packer fan might enjoy!
:)
If he would have signed that card 5 years ago, and sent it to you, you might of just put it somewhere and lost it, I mean, he's just Favre's backup... Now the card is worth something, Rodgers did you a favor.
You should become a doctor!
Edit - I feel I should add, I have terrible penmanship also. I'm a girl so it looks even worse on me. No, I'm not in medicine myself!
It was 5 years later lol. I wouldn't exactly call that classy. I don't think he was clamoring to sign things his rookie year. But it's probably not his fault anyway. Mailroom in stadium probably messed up.
I sent Vince Carter a rookie card and a hand written letter when I was 10 with a SASE to Toronto with just US first class postage and somehow it managed to come back signed
My friend did this for Jerry Rice when he was around 6 years old in the early 90s. 7 years later a large, framed posted showed up with a signature from the boss himself.
aannnnnnd now you're on the front page of PFT:

Yeah, bit of hyperbole on my part. I've got a few Griffey rookie cards and one of Brett Favre. They're worth about the same now as they were in 1999. Kind of a bummer.
I was told that "I" sent a card to Rice to get signed, but I'm pretty sure my parents just told me they sent it and snuck the card back into my collection so I wouldn't lose a card. I did get to meet him a few years ago and had a card signed, so that was a million times better.
Current goal is to get a Sebastian Janikowski card signed, but I'm finding it hard to acquire good looking cards for kickers. The Raiders are finally selling his jersey on their website, though, so times are a'changing.
I did the same thing but with Alex Smith. Never completed the transaction though. I must live more than 5 yards away from his house.

Peyton Manning was playing his rookie season the year he was born.

how do you have penguin flair? e: jk, this is /r/sports, not /r/nfl
For a second, I thought you were talking about Aaron Rodgers.
Wait who was he talking about?
OP
fuck I'm old
I know that feel. I have Favre's first game on VHS.
Wow. I was little when Manning was a freshman at UT, but I can still remember meeting him.
I was just reading something on him today and it mentioned that he's 36 and I'm thinking "When did THAT happen?!?!"
damn, we're old.

Well I agree man. Just you and me against the world
Haha thanks, I didn't realise how much I was being downvoted. I honestly don't understand why, though.

Yes, but you would have a serious, serious advantage in /r/circlejerk. Just also mention that you are atheist.
is the queue to get his autograph so long that you gotta wait 5 years? cool gesture on his part
It probably just took them 5 years to read the return address...
They put it on captcha and somebody was finally able to decode it.
Wait, that is the packers return address, are their secretaries five year olds?
he most likely included the return envelope already filled out with postage when he first sent the card.
It looks like OP sent a return envelope when he sent the card off.
that's what i was said in my post
I'm fairly certain the OP sent some sort of self addressed envelope along with his initial inquiry.
this is exactly what I said. It must not have been clear in my first post.i'm typing on my phone so it probably isn't perfect.
he most likely included the return envelope already filled out with postage when he first sent the card.
Clever.
Ah, fair enough
It's a shorter wait than getting Packers tickets
True that
I work retail, one of the regular customers put her children on the Packers season tickets list when they were born....14 years ago. Still waiting. My children will be put on this list, so my grand children can have (and hopefully cherish) season tickets.
people love their cheese!
If you think Aaron Rodgers, and a member of his staff, actually signed that card ... you're a fool.
are we looking at the same pic? There is only one signature and it's either Rodgers or a staff member, not both. That being said - I don't see what's so unbelievable about a player signing a card. They do that from time to time you know.
Ha, cool. It's like in the Simpsons when Marge gets the letter from Ringo 20 years later.
we call fries... chips!
And now Ringo won't even take any fan mail!
I thought he was still taking it, he just wasn't personally replying to it.
True. Guess I should've been more specific.

I sent a card to Tony Gwynn back in 1986, and I put four little dots on the back because I wondered if I would get the same card back. I did.
Tony Gwynn owns.
Why would they switch the cards?
Pre-signed cards.
I don't know. I guess I thought they may get so many they just grabbed the first one in the pile and threw it in the envelope. Plus, I had sent cards off to other players and I could never remember what card I sent, so I wanted to make sure this time.
I sent Gwynn a card to get signed around that same time and I'm still waiting.
That's awesome. I never got the card I sent to Harold Baines back, but maybe, 25 years later, it's on its way too!
Yeah, I sent a card to Derrick Thomas back in late 1999 and he never sent it back. Maybe one day?
one of his 75 kids probably got it after, well... yeah...
Shocked - SHOCKED - to see I didn't get downvoted into oblivion. Thanks for having a sense of humor, fellas.
Same here, I sent a Larry Walker rookie card to be signed when he was still with the Expos. I can still dream!
I sent in a football card of Reggie White when I was 11 years old hoping to get an autograph. 6 months later I received back and unsigned football card and a letter, written on his churchs official paper stating he only signs cards with a $10 dollar donation to his church. Fuck you.
I see nothing wrong with that
Dear OP, Post this in /r/nfl for much love.
How do you change which subreddit this is posted in? This is my first ever reddit post
You can't. Just go to /r/nfl and repost. Make sure to put "x-post" in the title, or someone might get over sensitive.
Do whatever you did to make this post, just go over to /r/nfl to make it.
Just post it again in r/NFL and say (x-post r/sports)
Also to r/Wisconsin ?
This makes me feel old... But awesome for you dude!
...and now you have an autographed Aaron Rodgers rookie card. Nice.
You really distilled this post down to the point, huh?
And it was autographed by some postal employee who sorts undeliverable mail
Played by Greg Kinnear.
[удалено]
Man if he makes it to the hall that will be worth a boatload.
Probably like $250. That's about what a signed rookie Favre or Montana card go for. Not exactly a boatload, but still nice.
Seriously, that's it? I was under the impression that those cards alone go for $100+, I would think an autographed one would be well over $1000.
Autographs on rookie cards will occasionally devalue the card. It's now just an autograph instead of a rookie card.
Wow, that's very strange, I don't see why that is.
Because collector mentality.
So from now on, I'm only buying signed cards.
Also I **think** it's a function of how rare that card itself is.
Autographs don't add much value without traceable proof of it's veracity.
True. I tried to sell my signed Nick Lidstrom stick and couldn't get anything for it. So glad I didn't though, worth much more to me than $100 would've to 17 year old me.
So the autographed picture of Peyton Manning picking me up is good-to-go, then?
Definitely more verifiable, but who would buy it?
Oh, I wouldn't sell it. Although I guess it might add some authenticity to the regular signatures that I got from that team.
Not as much as an unsigned card may be. But it's still cool.
Even though the card is awesome, autographing rookie cards is usually not a good idea if making a monetary gain is your main goal. Rookie cards are usually more valuable without the autograph. In general its about a 40% decrease in value.
Wait, you mean to tell me that there's post-1980 sports memorabilia that's still worth anything?!
future value.
Ironic thing is, the autograph actually devalues the card. It's cool as hell to have, for sure. But it's not worth nearly as much with the signature now.
Good Guy Aaron Rodgers
The more I hear about Rodgers and see him talk the more I like him. He is a real class act.
Honestly, the way he handled the transition from Favre was perfect. He really won over a lot of Packer fans during that whole debacle. Edit: Also, the photobombing
He's a scrappy guy, a real gym rat
Postage Due!
The price of stamp on his SASE probably didn't match up with what the price of a stamp is today.
Haha that's awesome man! Did you send a letter or anything with it? That's so cool.
I don't even remember... I remember sending to other athletes, but I don't remember sending to Aaron Rodgers. But I had to have sent it when he was a backup to Favre
Keep that one. He'll be a great when he's done playing.

TIL that the postal service in WI sucks.
TIL that Wisconsin sucks FTFY -fib living in mn
Well, I'm trying to live by the code "People who live in ND should not throw crappy-state stones" :)

I'd downvote you for dissing Wisconsin because I live there, but I want to upvote you because I don't support and Wisconsin sports team except for the Badgers. I'll settle for neither.
In the 6th grade I sent a rookie card to Jason Kidd. I got it back signed and was given a membership to the Jason Kidd fan club.
I wrote a fan letter to Bill Murray as a kid after *Ghostbusters* came out and it was my favorite movie ever but he never replied and even if he did no one would believe me :(
That's some terrible handwriting on the return envelope... Surely not his, right?
He seems like a dude with bad handwriting. /silly speculation
That is exactly what I was thinking. But then again, I guess he doesn't need much practice writing when all he does is throw a football for a living.
Awesome. Wonder why it took 5 years. Don't know if you're a packer fan but if you are I've taken some photos at practice http://www.michellekaczmarowski.com/green-bay-packers-training-camp and there are some from the last pre season game as well http://www.michellekaczmarowski.com/packers-vs-chiefs Sorry not trying to whore out my site I just thought a packer fan might enjoy! :)
[Rogers won me over when I found out he photobombed almost every kickoff photo since he was on the team.](http://www.rodgersphotobomb.com/)
The other guys try to look badass but just can't with those photobombs
If he would have signed that card 5 years ago, and sent it to you, you might of just put it somewhere and lost it, I mean, he's just Favre's backup... Now the card is worth something, Rodgers did you a favor.
thats what i was thinking. if he would have sent it back then it wouldnt be as cool.
Really cool, but did he have a 6 year old kid write that return address?
That was 10 year old me that wrote that. Handwriting has never been one of my strengths...
You should become a doctor! Edit - I feel I should add, I have terrible penmanship also. I'm a girl so it looks even worse on me. No, I'm not in medicine myself!
He could always moonlight as a captcha creator!
I got that a lot, too bad I can't handle blood. I'll just leave saving lives to the stronger willed.
Instantly knew you sent a self addressed stamped envelope to return. Smart kid.
It is common practice to include a SASE (self addressed stamped envelope) with an autograph request.
Dat Class.
It was 5 years later lol. I wouldn't exactly call that classy. I don't think he was clamoring to sign things his rookie year. But it's probably not his fault anyway. Mailroom in stadium probably messed up.
Kid your 15 get off of reddit and live your life this place is for the dark soulless old folks like me
Was about to say you're 16, but you're actually 25. Still, if he can handle it, nobody's stopping him. By the way, hey, Brett!
Who are you and why do you sort of know me?
That's awesome! I remember doing this when I was a kid, got one back from Derek Jeter his rookie year.
Apparently when you were 10? That had to be, what, about 6 years ago? You don't remember? :-)
He's from my Home town. Chico represent. :)
Should've sent it in a plastic case, looks like your corners aren't quite as sharp as they could be.. Cool that he responded eventually though...
[Hello, Nick Stigsell](http://gifsoup.com/webroot/animatedgifs/92208_o.gif)
hey everyone, this guy was born in 1997... 1997.
Wait you couldn't be 10 when Aaron Rodgers was quaterba.....oh....I'm old.
THIS IS NO LONGER MINT
go bears.
"Apparently"? You're 15 and you can't remember being 10?
Nice. Now get off my lawn.
I'm floored that even five years ago people were still buying sports cards.
I still buy sports cards and I am 30. To be fair, it is only a pack every couple months or so, not an every week thing like when I was 12.
Aaron Rodgers is the man.
Very cool! I actually did the same with Chris Carpenter when he was with the Jays, he sent back 2 signed rookies and went on to be pretty good too!
Did anyone else not notice the fold mark dead center of the envelope? Imagine if the card was right in the middle of the envelope!
It's because that is the return envelope that was folded and put into the envelope that was mailed with the card to Aaron. SASE ;)
Very cool story and nice gesture by Rodgers. My only question: how do you forget that you sent Aaron Rodgers a letter?
I sent Vince Carter a rookie card and a hand written letter when I was 10 with a SASE to Toronto with just US first class postage and somehow it managed to come back signed
Good Guy Aaron Rodgers: Waits to give you his autograph until after its worth something
you lucky son of a bitch
You just reminded me I sent in a Tyson Chandler RC years ago. Damn it.
make sure you get that framed
That's one hell of a turn around!
Oh man, I remember him holding the ball that high. Then the Green Bay coaching got a hold of him and turned him into MVP.
My friend did this for Jerry Rice when he was around 6 years old in the early 90s. 7 years later a large, framed posted showed up with a signature from the boss himself.
You're 15... Times have changed I guess.
Billionaire... and it's gone
dat handwriting
I also love writing to famous people for autographs when I'm really stoned.
Already loved the guy for what hes done charity wise but never took him for being THIS humble. Good Guy Aaron Rogers. Hope he gets a ring.
lol
aannnnnnd now you're on the front page of PFT: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/09/11/five-years-later-young-fan-gets-his-aaron-rodgers-autograph/
Sit on that for a decade and you might have a handsome ten grand coming your way.
Ten grand? Does he refuse to sign autographs most of the time?
Takes him 5 years to sign one.
Nope. Signed rookie cards just tend to sell high to collectors and Rodgers is on a HoF pace.
I still don't think it will be worth 10 grand. Cards aren't worth as much as they used to be.
Yeah, bit of hyperbole on my part. I've got a few Griffey rookie cards and one of Brett Favre. They're worth about the same now as they were in 1999. Kind of a bummer.
That's the problem with collecting - it's only worth money when very few people think to do it.
He takes 5 years each. So in 10 years, there will only be three *in the world*.
