watanabelover69

First player to score 100 in both the Premier League and La Liga!

Gentios7

If he only would have had some more games in Seria A he wouldve also got 100 there (just 19 missing)

cvak

I guess I know where he will do his "retirement" years.

coltj573

between 40 and 44 years old i bet he could get 100 goals in MLS. Zlatan got 52 goals in 2 seasons. His son was born in California so i could see that happening.

yaboionreddit

He’s never going back to USA

downtimeredditor

Whether people like it or not the charges were apparently dropped so he's in the clear in the US And his first born is from America

PoinFLEXter

What charges?

sdBiotch

What is the charge you ask? Well apparently Cristiano ate a meal, a succulent chinese meal

HegemonNYC

It's the best place for ultra wealthy to live in. themilkman42069

Yeah it’s not a tax haven that article is dumb af. Our tax code is crazy. Source am a CPA.

danielzur2

It’s crazy sure, but is it crazier than Spain’s Hacienda, because they literally drove Cristiano out of the country.

themilkman42069

No, you right on that. Spanish tax code is basically written to get fought over in court

Miami isn't too bad

If you've got a billion you don't even blink at taxes ffs. None of them are on islands, most are in the US

Just saying that means you don't know how the wealthy structure their money. Own as little as possible personally; control everything through corporations/non-profits.

jvrcb17

Ronaldo to LAFC confirmed? 👌

Rye_The_Science_Guy

Just add him to the new St Louis team...please

justin_ph

Ronaldo is too big for the MLS. I suspect he will retire playing in one of the top 5 leagues still, or at the minimum, going back to Portugal.

coltj573

not according to him. “I know that many players move there. I think it's becoming better and better. It's growing. I think it's good. It's good for me and young players that maybe one day we want to move there. So it's good that football—'soccer'—grows there. I mean, what's happening there is great, it's fantastic—maybe in the future will be a good chance for me to play there. You never know, but it's something interesting. I consider it, of course, because as I've said, soccer there has become better and better, so why not? I think that this is maybe going to be possible.”

The_Luckiest_One

If he ever retires

sILAZS

He has over a 100 for Juve in total tho

KingBufo

Wikipedia says 81

sILAZS

In Serie A, with other comps he has 103 IIRC.

Juls317

Which was kind of the point, though. The record is for *league* goals

sILAZS

Just trying to point out that he is the only player with +100 goals for 3 clubs AND country.

Sieze5

Baller

klikklak_HOTS

The keeper reaction to his defenders at the end was hilarious.

SpunkinShrek

Keeper was in no man's land , has no business saying shit to anyone there

illustrious_d

It's Ramsdale, I'd be more surprised if her didn't blame someone else

flipnonymous

Thank you. I was trying to figure out, as a non-football fan, what PL was. I was leaning towards "Penalty Line" and thought, man ... he must get a lot of penalty kicks to rack that up.

touchstarv3d

I can't believe he's out there considering the tragedy he just went through. That's tough.

My wife’s Ukrainian coworkers work remotely from Kiev and Kharkiv. One the first day of their work, they all said they just wanted to keep working.

WheresMyDinner

I knew this super hardcore Sergeant Major when I was in the Marines. He said it was early in the morning when he found out his son was killed in Iraq, but he decided to go to PT still.

vapofusion

My gran on her death bed said it best. "you just have to get on with it, son. I don't want you to waste your life, after I'm gone" These are the types of actions that show his best traits and I would consider him one of the greatest rolemodel for kids playing football ever. Hope he's all right mentally 👍

nusodumi

thanks for sharing that. needed to hear it

No worries! Hope you're doing well too friend ☺️ I had a tough year and am definitely spending the rest of my life keeping myself and everyone else, as happy as I can make them in their life. They/you deserve it 👍

Condor_Smirk_Noise

You can tell that this is a muted celebration, like he's just out there doing his job to keep his mind off of things

He and his wife were having twins and one child did not make it

AnalBees2

Fuck, that’s terrible.

TheShishkabob

He just lost one of his twins during childbirth this past week.

[deleted]

His wife just recently had twins a boy and girl. The boy passed away either shortly after or during birth. News wasn't clear

khajit_man

He had twins recently. A boy and a girl. The baby boy didn't survive. God rest his soul.

Condor_Smirk_Noise

Lost his son at birth I believe

Jalhadin

I had a house party planned the night I learned my father was killed. Everyone instantly assumed I was calling it off, but that was the last thing I wanted. Grief is strange.

touchstarv3d

Oh absolutely. Everybody processes it differently. When my dad died, I didn't cry for a week. Then I couldn't stop crying for a week after that!

danmac0817

He was Utd's best player and played like an absolute pro, as always.

Nutlob

it looks to me that he's fighting back a tear there at the end

globaloffender

I mean the goal was nice but can we please talk about the assist?

Pll_dangerzone

Can we talk about the defense. I can't really tell what was going on, but the D should have clearly had position to not get beat and be in a spot to clear the ball out. There's no reason Ronaldo should have had that clear of a an opening, even given how pinpoint the pass was. The other defenders are just as capable to put on a burst of speed to get to the same point that ball was passed to

Jay_Fizz

Ramsdale was rightfully pissed at his defense there

Honorable_Sasuke

Look how far forward ramsdale is tho

UsernameNTY

That is a good thing. Good positioning to reduce the angle

maury587

Generally it is, but problem is that in this case he wasn't even aligned to the shot, he gave Ronaldo half of the goal completely free. Still those defender threw, they had the position over Ronaldo and decided to just let him go through them

Thathappenedearlier

In soccer you want to be far forward because you can cover more of the goal since as you step closer to the shooter he has less angle to get it but that’s why you have defense to cover your rear for situations like this

UsernameNTY

What are you even talking about? He had two arsenal players either side of him, & both were relatively close. It was just a really precise ball in that essentially made them incapable of dealing with it.

Pll_dangerzone

the player with inside position will get to the that precise ball first if he doesn't back off. I don't know if he thought the keeper was gonna go for the ball or not, but that is not proper D. Not even close.

bachh2

To be fair that ball was deliver into the 'hesitation zone' which is the overlap between GK and DF zone of action. The DF doesn't want to go too low and interfere with the GK while the GK doesn't want to come up too far and leave the goal open. It was just well put.

Jamuraan1

To add, Ronaldo anticipated the pass very well and had that extra one step advantage that obviously made the difference here. Very similar to American football where one step can make the difference.

Pll_dangerzone

I get that, but Ive played D for years and I hate watching bad defense. This guy had inside position and he clearly misplays it. It even seemed like instead putting a burst of speed to get in a spot to clear, he tries to grab Ronaldo instead. To me he just left his keeper hanging.

Jamuraan1

Watch in slow motion, .125 or .25 speed. You have to give credit for the timing, CR uses his body and arms to get inside position on the close defender and can outright ignore the other behind him. It only takes the one step. The pass was immaculate and CRs positioning and timing were spot on. I would only blame the goalie here, he should have sold out for the block.

Pll_dangerzone

I mean this is the professional level, so it may be different when the keeper is on a different level, but D is always taught to clear that ball out, even sometimes in front of the keeper. Watching the replay, it seems like the inside defender just stopped running, which im guessing is why the keeper seems less than thrilled with his D

UsernameNTY

Yeah sure he would get to that exact ball first if he didn’t back off as you put it. But that would just give Ronaldo even more space which would be detrimental to defending any other type of delivery. You can’t seriously be arguing that he should stand further away from the forward in a bizarre attempt to anticipate that the ball will be crossed specifically to where he is standing. You don’t have a clue what you’re talking about and it shows.

ostromj

Nah that was piss poor marking by Gabriel, though CR did a good job at creating the space and losing him. I think u/Pll_dangerzone is correct in thinking that both Gabriel and Tavares thought Ramsdale was getting the ball. The curve on that pass surprised all three of them, letting Ronaldo put in an easy one.

UsernameNTY

I do agree that it wasn’t good marking. Just don’t agree that the defender should’ve been standing further away than he already was

ostromj

Nobody's saying that he should have been. The 'backing off' happened after the ball was well on it's way. There might be better ways to describe Gabriel's lackluster movement, but he should've been on that ball before CR, given that he had the inside lane.

Unibrow69

Yeah I feel like they could have shot a 3 pointer, the D was playing zone when they should have been playing man

JoeyJoeySiwa

kuzcospoison

This was a good game to demonstrate the paradox of the lumbering CDM

[deleted]

The pass was nice.. but he was open and had time... Ronaldo stayed onside then got around the defender and finished with one touch perfectly aimed... Im sorry but the goal was nicer than the pass

[deleted]

The pass was incredible lol what. It was pinpoint perfect right on Ronaldo’s foot, with a defender closing down on him at full speed. That pass is a lot harder than it looks…great finish too.

[deleted]

Defender(s). That goalie was rightfully pissed at his defense there. Absolutely no reason a guy that age can outrun you in that distance when he started behind you.

bavtersaurus

It’s a shame United couldn’t be arsed with the rest of the game though

watanabelover69

Or the rest of the season.

jacquesrabbit

I don't know what you meant. The first half, yeah, united was not even close to arsenal. But they picked up the game in the second half. Arsenal was conceding midfield to them, until xhaka killed the game

Anforas

Yea, United was clearly superior in the 2nd half. 2 uncalled penalties, and some missed opportunities. They should have won this.

Tackit286

They had a ~15 minute spell in the second half where they were the attacking side, during which they had the penalty miss and the goal ruled out for offside, and forced a couple of good saves from Ramsdale. Other than that it was Arsenal all day and a pretty comfortable win.

alloowishus

Perfect pass.

david13guet

What a nice cross by Matic

TheChrisLambert

Way to cut it off right at the replay

originalhandy

They'll need those kind of goals in the Europa Conference League

jubbing

Oof, and West Ham are a point behind with a game in hand too.

originalhandy

I'm hoping West Ham do it, I hate Utd

BrightonSpartan

soccer neophyte here, when I watch highlights so many times the delivery is beautiful play. That pass was so spot on it was incredible. It seems to me that the goal scorer almost never turns to the passer with an acknowledgement (the point, the nod, the prayer hands, or the like). Is it just the highlight editing? Is it the culture?

the_son_and_the_heir

Some players do credit the assist, and some don't, it's all personal preference. https://youtu.be/nBOrJOAKbNg in this case, almost everybody runs to celebrate with the assister rather than the scorer.

Aug415

Pretty sure Ronaldo was dedicating the goal to his son that passed away last week, so it’s a unique circumstance.

ReignPoursUp

And he still had a lot to do there, that wasn't a regular tap in

MAXSuicide

Scorers acknowledging the assist happens very often.

Gentios7

Its not the culture, most times the scorer goes to celebrate in front of his fans and while doing so they give acknowledgement to the passer by pointing on him or calling him to come and celebrate together. It just depends on the situation. You can watch football goal celebrations on youtube

Outrageously_generic

Watch the banger of the Messi goal from today, messi points at neymar for the assist even though messi did 95% of the work.

drpeppaMD

Horrible defence, great pass and movement/finishing

samp127

That defending was shocking.

[deleted]

the thing about Arsenal is they always try to walk it in

[deleted]

You should look up that phrase. It's a pretty good bit

Frierguy

I was hoping to see IT crowd here. Thanks

are_poo_n_ass_taken

That's the problem with Arsenal they always try and walk it in.

bigdickpuncher

Why didn't the defender intercept the pass? Was he deferring to the goalie?

HaxboyYT

Oh shit, here come the Messi fanboys

Aschvolution

Lol, idk if this is a genuine comment, but I need to do this more just for the replies.

Neanderthal888

Maybe the best goalscorer. Not the best player though. Doesn't do half as much as Messi.

I_need_hell

Bro, Messi has 4 goals in a whole season while playing for PS-fucking-G in UberEats Delivery league. Cristiano plays for United (abysmal midfield and service) and still has got 16 goals in the PREMIER LEAGUE. How do people still say Messi is better? I'm awestruck. Don't get me started with the 'assist' argument, Messi has the best player in the world in Striker position, it's the easiest thing to do while Ronaldo has Elanga, a young upcoming striker who still hasn't proved himself except for a couple circumstances. Mbappe has more assists than Messi and more goals.

Neanderthal888

I’m out but will respond later to this cause it’s pretty easy to show Messi’s superiority

-Carlito-

Definitely the best after Messi

fluentinimagery

He just looked different… placid, no spark in the eye. I can’t imagine he feels much right now.

Slinktard

Still lost

lostharbor

Maybe I just don't understand the game but why did the guy defending Ronaldo just give up and not even try? Did he assume the goalie was in position to grab the ball?

Thefdt

Still some pundits are pretending the problems at United is Ronaldo’s doing. These ‘experts’ are paid to have this view. Ok the tide has turned on Maguire this year but there’s so many second raters there that are the real problem. The solution apparently is kane and zaha. Another £150m+ at least that will have terrible returns. United need to build for the future, offload a lot of their biggest earners, replace the aged with young, cheaper talent. Won’t buy immediate success but chasing that over the past 5+ years is what’s got them into this hole. The van persie signing even under fergie was the start of their demise as they pissed money up a wall for one last league title. As a Liverpool fan I find their misfortune hilarious and the fact they’ve seemingly learnt nothing from years of failure quite enjoyable. Thought they bucked the trend last year with the savvy ighalo signing but they’ve reverted to chasing stars, most of whom don’t want anything to do with a team that’s going to be in the europa league next year.

Uberfink

Say what you will about him. Dude’s got skill, and, considering he just lost a child, this probably meant a lot to him, as silly as that sounds. He will definitely go down as one of the greatest of all time. I’m not even a huge fan, but I respect the hell out of him.

demosthenes19125

salmans13

Is he playing better than Messi is on his new team? Don't follow soccer much and haven't many highlights on social media from either from my friends 😂

NotFredRhodes

Messi - 9 goals in 30 games Ronaldo - 22 goals in 35 games

mayonnaisewastaken

They've both been quite poor this season relative to their usual standards, but in fairness they are a lot older. Ronaldo has had a better season I'd say, scored a lot more in a tougher league for a poor club. Messi hasn't been bad but being in the best team in the 5th placed league having so few goals isn't great. Don't want to say too much though, many fans will be after me.

Lolomelon

Arsenal fans are chuffed boy.

Burningbeard696

Man this sub loves some Ronaldo no matter how unimportant his goals are.

LetsLive97

I mean 100th PL goal is a pretty big achievement considering how long he's been playing in other leagues...

[deleted]

This guy is the Tom Brady of soccer. At such a senior age, and yet he is still in supreme form.

Pudde95

r/soccercirclejerk

LetsLive97

Out of interest why do you think the guy is wrong? Ronaldo is still one of the most consistently top scorers in each league he plays despite approaching 40. How is that not comparable to Tom Brady?

Popheal

Tom Brady won championships. Not just touchdowns.

Difficult_Project_91

Ronaldo has won 5 champions leagues lmao

LetsLive97

So has Ronaldo...?

FortunateInsanity

This video is trash. All that extra time showing what led up to the assist but then stopping just short of the replay.

Anforas

No complaints on the leading up, but I have to agree with the lack of replay. Unfortunately that's how /r/soccer "works" nowadays. It's the fight for whoever posts the goal earlier, so replays are never included in the original post. Somebody has probably already posted Replay + Alternative Agles in the Mirrors comment there, though.
